2. Estimation model of wild fractional vegetation cover based on RGB vegetation index and its application

Abstract

An accurate survey of field vegetation information facilitates the evaluation of ecosystems and the improvement of remote sensing models. Extracting fractional vegetation cover (FVC) information using aerial images is one of the important areas of unmanned aerial vehicles. However, for a field with diverse vegetation species and a complex surface environment, FVC estimation still has difficulty guaranteeing accuracy. A segmented FVC calculation method based on a thresholding algorithm is proposed to improve the accuracy and speed of FVC estimation. The FVC estimation models were analyzed by randomly selected sample images using four vegetation indices: excess green, excess green minus excess red index, green leaf index, and red green blue vegetation index (RGBVI). The results showed that the empirical model method performed poorly (validating R 2 = 0.655 to 0.768). The isodata and triangle thresholding algorithms were introduced for vegetation segmentation, and their accuracy was analyzed. The results showed that the correlation between FVC estimation under RGBVI was the highest, and the triangle and isodata thresholding algorithms were complementary in terms of vegetation recognition accuracy, based on which a segmentation method of FVC calculation combining triangle and isodata algorithms was proposed. After testing, the accuracy of the improved FVC calculation method is higher than 90%, and the vegetation recognition accuracy is improved to more than 80%. This study is a positive guide to using digital cameras in field surveys.

Abstract

Mongolian willow (Salix linearistipularis) is a naturally occurring woody dioecious plant in the saline soils of north-eastern China, which has a high tolerance to alkaline salts. Although transcriptomics studies have identified a large number of salinity-responsive genes, the mechanism of salt tolerance in Mongolian willow is not clear. Here, we found that in response to Na2CO3 stress, Mongolian willow regulates osmotic homeostasis by accumulating proline and soluble sugars and scavenges reactive oxygen species (ROS) by antioxidant enzymes and non-enzymatic antioxidants. Our quantitative proteomics study identified 154 salt-sensitive proteins mainly involved in maintaining the stability of the photosynthetic system and ROS homeostasis to cope with Na2CO3 stress. Among them, Na2CO3-induced rubredoxin (RUB) was predicted to be associated with 122 proteins for the modulation of these processes. The chloroplast-localized S. linearistipularis rubredoxin (SlRUB) was highly expressed in leaves and was significantly induced under Na2CO3 stress. Phenotypic analysis of overexpression, mutation and complementation materials of RUB in Arabidopsis suggests that SlRUB is critical for the regulation of photosynthesis, ROS scavenging and other metabolisms in the seedlings of Mongolian willow to cope with Na2CO3 stress. 27. A high-quality genome sequence of alkaligrass provides insights into halophyte stress tolerance

Abstract

Alkaligrass (Puccinellia tenuiflora) is a monocotyledonous halophytic forage grass widely distributed in Northern China. It belongs to the Gramineae family and shares a close phylogenetic relationship with the cereal crops, wheat and barley. Here, we present a high-quality chromosome-level genome sequence of alkaligrass assembled from Illumina, PacBio and 10× Genomics reads combined with genome-wide chromosome conformation capture (Hi-C) data. The ∼1.50 Gb assembled alkaligrass genome encodes 38,387 protein-coding genes, and 54.9% of the assembly are transposable elements, with long terminal repeats being the most abundant. Comparative genomic analysis coupled with stress-treated transcriptome profiling uncovers a set of unique saline- and alkaline-responsive genes in alkaligrass. The high-quality genome assembly and the identified stress related genes in alkaligrass provide an important resource for evolutionary genomic studies in Gramineae and facilitate further understanding of molecular mechanisms underlying stress tolerance in monocotyledonous halophytes. Abstract

The establishment of a genetic transformation system for gramineous forages is of great significance to the utilization of germplasm resources. In recent years, the genetic transformation methods of various gramineous forages such as Eremochloa ophiuroides, Lolium perenne, Zoysia japonica, Panicum virgatum, Festuca elata, Brachypodium distachyum, Agrostis stolonifera, Puccinellia chinampoensis,Leymus chinensis,Pogonatherum paniceum and Dichanthium annulatum have been continuously optimized. This article summarized the recent research progress in the optimization of the genetic transformation systems of gramineous forages,and discussed the effects of plant receptor material,transformation condition,co-cultivation time, acetosyringone concentration,bacteriostatic agent concentration,selection pressure of screening agents and other factors on the transformation efficiency.

Abstract

Taking the attraction of Future Horticultural Designers of Shanghai International Flower Show as an example, the practical results and functions of plant landscaping in typical cases during the past five years were reviewed and studied. The limiting factors which affect the function performance were analyzed as well. The limiting factors include spatial landscape limitations, unsustainability of seasonal performance, variability of landscape budgets, restrictions on students'practical ability, disconnection between learning courses and practice, limited communication channels between school experts and enterprises, lack of corresponding practical instruction materials, etc. Therefore,stratagems and approaches for the development of plant landscaping practices and applications were proposed in this paper,so as to provide some reference of training the future horticultural designers.

Abstract

LORELEI(LRE) protein family belongs to a subfamily of glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored proteins(GPI-AP) in plants.In Arabidopsis thaliana, four members of LRE family proteins with various expression patterns and functions are found, which are LRE, LRE-like GPI-AP 1(LLG1), LLG2, and LLG3.LRE is mainly expressed in the synergid cell, egg cell, and central cell of the female gametophyte.The highest expression level is detected in the synergid cell.In addition, LRE is also observed in the zygote and endosperm.LRE participates in the process of double fertilization in higher plants by mediating the reception of pollen tube and regulating the early development of embryos.Expression of LLG1 is detected in all of the tissues/organs in plants, and has the highest expression level in vegetative organs, such as roots and leaves.LLG1 plays important role in regulating the plant growth and development(e.g., root and root hair growth), salinity response, and immune response.LLG2 and LLG3 are expressed in mature pollen grains and pollen tubes.They are involved in regulation of pollen tube growth and burst, and sperm release for double fertilization. In this review,we summarize the components and protein characteristics of LRE family,and highlight the advances on their functions in the processes of plant growth, development, and stress response.

ERECTA is a receptor-like kinase gene isolated from Arabidopsis for the first time.ERECTA plays an important role in leaf morphogenesis, inflorescence structure, stomata development, as well as in biotic and abiotic stress responses. This article reviews the composition of the ERECTA family as well as their protein sequence characteristics and functions in response to abiotic stress, providing new clues for further research on ERECTA functions.
