Two cubic B-spline functions from different families are placed to the collocation method for the numerical solutions to the Gardner equation.Four models describing propagation of bell shaped single solitary, travel of a kink type wave, wave generation and interaction of two positive bell shaped solitaries propagating in the opposite directions are studied by both methods. The error between the numerical and the analytical solutions ismeasured by using the discrete maximum norm when the analytical solutions exist. The absolute changes of the lowest three conservation laws are also good indicators of valid results even when the analytical solutions do not exist. The stability of the proposed method is investigated by the Von Neumann analysis.

The exponential B-spline basis function set is used to develop a collocation method for some initial boundary value problems (IBVPs) to the Gardner equation. The Gardner equation has two nonlinear terms, namely quadratic and cubic ones. The order reduction of the equation is resulted in a coupled system of PDEs that enables the exponential B-splines to be implemented. The system is integrated in time by Crank-Nicolson implicit method. The validity of the method is investigated by calculating the discrete maximum error norm and observing the absolute relative changes of the conservation laws at the end of the simulations.

In this study, the numerical solutions of reaction-diffusion systems are investigated via the trigonometric quintic B-spline nite element collocation method. These equations appear in various disciplines in order to describe certain physical facts, such as pattern formation, autocatalytic chemical reactions and population dynamics. The Schnakenberg, Gray-Scott and Brusselator models are special cases of reaction-diffusion systems considered as numerical examples in this paper. For numerical purposes, Crank-Nicolson formulae are used for the time discretization and the resulting system is linearized by Taylor expansion. In the finite element method, a uniform partition of the solution domain is constructed for the space discretization. Over the mentioned mesh, dirac-delta function and trigonometric quintic B-spline functions are chosen as the weighted function and the bases functions, respectively. Thus, the reaction-diffusion system turns into an algebraic system which can be represented by a matrix equation so that the coeffcients are block matrices containing a certain number of non-zero elements in each row. The method is tested on different problems. To illustrate the accuracy, error norms are calculated in the linear problem whereas the relative error is given in other nonlinear problems. Subject to the character of the nonlinear problems, the occurring spatial patterns are formed by the trajectories of the dependent variables. The degree of the base polynomial allows the method to be used in high-order differential equation solutions. The algorithm produces accurate results even when the time increment is larger. In the present study, we solve initial boundary value problem construted on nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation. The collocation method on exponential cubic B-spline functions forming a set of basis for the functions defined in the same interval is set up for the numerical approach. The efficiency and validity of the proposed method are determined by computing the error between the numerical and the analytical solutions. A generalization of classical cubic B-spline functions with a parameter is used as basis in the collocation method. Some initial boundary value problems constructed on the nonlinear Klein-gordon equation are solved by the proposed method for extension various parameters. The coupled system derived as a result of the reduction of the time order of the equation is integrated in time by the Crank-Nicolson method. After linearizing the nonlinear term, the collocation procedure is implemented. Adapting the initial conditions provides a linear iteration system for the fully integration of the equation. The validity of the method is investigated by measuring the maximum errors between analytical and the numerical solutions. In the study, the collocation method based on exponential cubic B-spline functions is proposed to solve one dimensional Boussinesq systems numerically. Two initial boundary value problems for Regularized and Classical Boussinesq systems modeling motion of traveling waves are considered. The accuracy of the method is validated by measuring the error between the numerical and analytical solutions. Occupation of an interval by self-replicating initial pulses is studied numerically. Two different approximates in different categories are proposed for the numerical solutions of some initial-boundary value problems. The sinc differential quadrature combined with third-fourth order implicit Rosenbrock and exponential B-spline collocation methods are setup to obtain the numerical solutions of the mentioned problems. The exponential cubic B-spline functions together with Crank Nicolson are used to solve numerically the nonlinear coupled Burgers' equation using collocation method.
