Heat treatment of rigid polyurethane foam (RPUF) was performed at different temperature. The failure degrees of treated RPUF were evaluated by the characterization of tensile properties. The failure process and mechanism of RPUF were further analyzed by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Experimental results showed that the untreated RPUF maintained the optimal tensile strength and modulus. After the heat treatment at high temperature, the tensile properties of RPUF decreased with the increase of heat-treated temperature due to the gradual degradation of polyurethane matrix. Numerical simulation indicated that the stress concentration in cellular structure model (CSM) constructed according to the Kerner-Rusch relation gradually intensified with the increase of treatment temperature. In addition, the tensile strength and modulus obtained from CSM were agreement with the experimental results. The computation error of CSM was less than 5% in average compared with the experimental data.

The moderate halophile Alkalicoccus halolimnae BZ-SZ-XJ29T grows optimally in a relative broad range of 8.3% to 12.3% (wt/vol) NaCl. The draft genome consists of approximately 3.66 Mb and contains 3,534 putative genes. Various genes involved in osmotic stress were predicted, providing pertinent insights into specific adaptations to the hypersaline environment.

The mechanical failure properties of rigid polyurethane foam treated under random vibration were studied experimentally and by numerical simulation. The random vibration treatments were carried out in the frequency range of 5&ndash, 500 Hz, 500&ndash, 1000 Hz, and 1000&ndash, 1500 Hz, respectively. The influence of the vibration frequency, mass block and acceleration on the mechanical performance of rigid polyurethane foam was further investigated by compression testing. The experimental results showed that the compression performance and energy absorption of foams decreased the least between 500&ndash, 1000 Hz. In addition, in the 5&ndash, 500 Hz range, the reduction rate of compression performance and energy absorption increased with the increase of the vibration mass block and acceleration. The resulting simulation indicated that the deformation degree of the sample was the most serious under the condition of 5&ndash, 500 Hz. With the increase of deformation, the damage of the sample during the vibration process increased, which led to the decrease of compression property and energy absorption of rigid polyurethane foam. This further explained the variation mechanism of the compression test performance.

The haloalkaliphilic bacterium Alkalicoccus saliphilus DSM 15402T was isolated from a mineral pool. It grows aerobically at an optimum of 15% (wt/vol) salinity and pH 9.0. The draft genome consists of approximately 3.52 Mb and contains 3,434 predicted genes. Various genes are potentially involved in the adaptation mechanisms for both osmotic stress and pH homeostasis, providing insight into specific adaptations to this double-extreme environment.

The mechanical failure behaviors prediction model of rigid polyurethane foam (RPUF) treated under complex thermal-vibration conditions was constructed by experiment of tensile properties and numerical simulation for the further analysis of the failure progress and mechanism of RPUF. On the basis of scanning electron microscope (SEM) observation, a realistic representative volume element (RVE) of RPUF was firstly established by means of Voronoi-spherical tessellations. Tensile properties of RPUF treated under different thermal-vibration conditions were measured subsequently. Results of the tensile properties characterization of RPUF suggested that the thermal and vibration treatment on RPUF reduced its tensile strength and fracture elongation decrease due to the chemical degradation of polyurethane (PU) matrix and physical breaking of the foam structure. The tensile constitutive relationship derived from the tensile experiments was assigned to the realistic RVE, and the thermal-vibration failure prediction model of RPUF was further constructed in the ABAQUS software. The numerical simulation results revealed that the stress concentrations appeared and extended along with the weakness regions of RPUF structure under the external load. The stress-strain curves of thermal-vibration treated RPUF obtained from the prediction model were in well agreement with the experimental results, and the average computation error was less than 3%. It indicated that the prediction model can accurately describe the failure progress of thermal-vibration treated RPUF. This work provides ideas for the design of the foam materials with high thermal-vibration aging resistance by numerical simulation in the future.

Numerical models of multi-layer composite laminates with various fiber orientations and fiber layers were investigated under adhesively bonded repair condition by ABAQUS. Stress intensity factors (SIF) of bonded structure systems were calculated by J integral method. Results indicated that composite laminate with [90/90/90] fiber orientation and three fiber layers exhibited the lowest numerical SIF value. The laminates reinforced by carbon fiber with corresponding orientation were experimentally prepared in a two-step high-pressure microwave curing and traditional thermal curing methods on the basis of simulated results, respectively. Mechanical and curing properties of laminates prepared by two curing methods were characterized and compared by means of tensile tests and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). In comparison to the thermal curing method, the laminate can be prepared more effectively by means of microwave curing method, and the laminate with [90/90/90] fiber orientation and three fiber layers showed the optimal static mechanical performance and the highest curing degree due to the synergistic effect of dipolar induced effect and heating effect generated by microwave, which was in well agreement with the results of numerical simulation.
