Abstract

In this paper, we combined two types of partitions and introduced 2-colored Rogers-Ramanujan partitions. By finding some functional equations and using a constructive method, some identities have been found. Some Overpartition identities coincide with our findings. A correspondence between colored partitions and overpartitions is provided.

Abstract

Previous studies show that information security breaches and privacy violations are important issues for organisations and people. It is acknowledged that decreasing the risk in this domain requires consideration of the technological aspects of information security alongside human aspects. Employees intentionally or unintentionally account for a significant portion of the threats to information assets in organisations. This research presents a novel conceptual framework to mitigate the risk of insiders using deterrence and prevention approaches. Deterrence factors discourage employees from engaging in information security misbehaviour in organisations, and situational crime prevention factors encourage them to prevent information security misconduct. Our findings show that perceived sanctions certainty and severity significantly influence individuals' attitudes and deter them from information security misconduct. In addition, the output revealed that increasing the effort, risk and reducing the reward (benefits of crime) influence the employees' attitudes towards prevent information security misbehaviour. However, removing excuses and reducing provocations do not significantly influence individuals' attitudes towards prevent information security misconduct. Finally, the output of the data analysis also showed that subjective norms, perceived behavioural control and attitude influence individuals' intentions, and, ultimately, their behaviour towards avoiding information security misbehaviour.

24. Performance and characteristics of controlled release matrices composed of hydroxpropylmethylcellulose and other polymers

Abstract

This thesis examines the use of hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC), sodium carboxymethylcellulose (NaCMC) or ethylcellulose, alone or in combination with other adjuncts, to control the release of propranolol hydrochloride from matrices. Gels were characterized by U tube viscometry and their cloud points of gels. The properties of polymers and their mixture in matrices or in gels were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Compendial dissolution methodology was used to determine drug release from matrices and their release exponents. Propranolol hydrochloride increased the solubility of HPMC and altered the water distribution in their gels. The release of propranolol hydrochloride from HPMC matrices was dependent on the square root of time. Release exponents were - 0.6, indicating that diffusion and erosion contributed to drug release. The release rates of propranolol hydrochloride from NaCMC matrices decreased as the NaCMC content increased. Addition of propranolol hydrochloride to NaCMC gels produced an insoluble complex which, in matrices, controlled the drug release. The interaction between propranolol hydrochloride and NaCMC was confirmed by DSC and dialysis. The viscosity grade of NaCMC affected the drug release. NaCMC matrices showed fast erosion. The release of sodium ions from matrices containing NaCMC was enhanced propranolol hydrochloride, confirming the occurrence of the interaction in matrices. The release of propranolol hydrochloride from NaCMC matrices was not dependent on either the square root of time or time. Large increases in release rates from matrices containing NaCMC in acidic media implied the polymer was unable to gel provide or a sustained release of propranolol hydrochloride at low pH. A synergistic increase in viscosity in gels containing HPMC and NaCMC probably played a minor role in propranolol release from matrices containing both polymers. NaCMC decreased the cloud point of HPMC. Drug release from matrices containing HPMC and NaCMC was very complicated, but zero order release was achieved from matrices containing 285 mg of 1: 3 HPMC : NaCMC. Addition of HPMC to NaCMC matrices suppressed an initial burst release of propranolol. The release of propranolol hydrochloride from matrices containing HPMC and NaCMC was dependent on pH. Ethylcellulose was capable of binding = 14% w/w water. Matrices containing ethylcellulose 7 cP (<125 pm) showed lower release rates than matrices containing ethylcellulose 10 cP, or at greater particle sizes. Compaction pressure generally did not affect drug release. The release exponent from matrices containing ethylcellulose was 0.44 - 0.49 indicating diffusion predominated drug release. Admixture of ethylcellulose with HPMC did not change the release exponent (0.59 < n < 0.61) from that of HPMC alone, whereas the exponents of NaCMC:ethylcellulose matrices was altere. Addition of ethylcellulose to HPMC increased the initial uptake of water. The incorporation of a complex of propranolol and β-cyclodextrin failed to retard the release of drug or alter the release exponent.

Abstract

Background & Objective: Aluminum (Al) is used in different industries to produce cosmetics, supplements, drugs, food packaging, toothpaste, kitchen utensils, and antiperspirants. Uterine fibroid (UF) is women's most prevalent benign tumor during the reproductive ages. Since Al can accumulate in the body's organs, it may play a role in the pathogenesis of UF. This study aimed to measure Al levels in serum and uterine samples (normal uterine tissue of control and UF patients, and leiomyoma of UF patients). Materials & Methods: In this descriptive study, we included ten women who underwent hysterectomy (five women due to UF and five women for a reason other than UF). Samples were obtained from serum, normal uterine tissue, and leiomyoma. Tissue and serum samples were digested with nitric acid (HNO3) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Eventually, the Al levels in samples were analyzed by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES). Results: Al level was higher in the serum of the control group compared with UF patients (326.8 ± 360.8 µg/L vs. 211.2 ± 56.4 µg/L, P =0.310). Al level was higher in the control group compared with the normal tissue of UF patients (410.2 ± 244.7 µg/L vs. 300 ± 138.0 µg/L, P=0.465). Besides, leiomyoma had a higher Al level compared with the normal tissue of UF patients (1482.2 ± 2062.9 µg/L vs. 300 ± 138.0 µg/L, P =0.138). Conclusion: The results showed that Al levels of tissue and serum samples in various groups differed, but these differences were not statistically significant. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Many Experts believe that the Internet of Things (IoT) is a new revolution in technology that has brought many benefits for our organizations, businesses, and industries. However, information security and privacy protection are important challenges particularly for smart vehicles in smart cities that have attracted the attention of experts in this domain. Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PETs) endeavor to mitigate the risk of privacy invasions, but the literature lacks a thorough review of the approaches and techniques that support individuals' privacy in the connection between smart vehicles and smart cities. This gap has stimulated us to conduct this research with the main goal of reviewing recent privacy-enhancing technologies, approaches, taxonomy, challenges, and solutions on the application of PETs for smart vehicles in smart cities. The significant aspect of this study originates from the inclusion of data-oriented and process-oriented privacy protection. This research also identifies limitations of existing PETs, complementary technologies, and potential research directions.

Abstract

Radio over free space optics (Ro-FSO) systems have previously relied on the signal intensity, wavelength and polarization for multiplexing data streams in order to increase to the signal quality and achievable link range. This work leverages on optical space division multiplexing by using novel three-core photonic crystal fiber (PCF) mode group multiplexers and hexagonal mid-gapped tiered PCF mode group equalizers for improving the signal quality and increasing the achievable link range in a rural environment. At the transmitter, a three-core PCF mode group demultiplexer converts the fundamental mode into three distinct mode groups used as carriers for independent transmission of three radio frequency signals. At the receiver, the three PCF successfully equalizes the power from the received signal, with the channel impulse responses showing an improvement in the signal quality. An increment between 13.6% and 31.1% in the achievable link range for all channels is evident under medium and heavy fog conditions at the same bit error rate level, using the designed PCF mode group multiplexers and equalizers.

Abstract

During the last century, researchers studied integer partition theory extensively. We are more interested in exploring partition identities among many aspects of integer partitions. In this thesis, we study a constructive method developed by Kur sungoz to nd new identities on Rogers-Ramanujan type integer partitions and overpartitions. For this aim, we give a reproof of two Rogers-Ramanujan identities using the constructive method. Combining two types of partitions, we introduced 2-colored Rogers-Ramanujan partitions. By nding some functional equations and using the constructive method, some identities have been found. Our results coincide with some extreme cases of Rogers-Ramanujan-Gordon's identities. A correspondence between colored partitions and those overpartitions is provided. Our second result is nding the missing cases of parity consideration on Rogers- Ramanujan-Gordon's identities due to Andrews's suggestion in his seminal paper about parity in partition identities. Four cases had proven by Sang, Shi, and Yee, we reproved them using the said constructive method and then found and proved the remaining cases by the same method.

Abstract

This paper presents a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation to investigate the effects of the obliqueness of cylindrical weirs on the flow velocity distribution, the pressure distribution and the distribution of water depth over the weir crest. Three different cylindrical weirs with diameters of 0.114 m, 0.09 m, and 0.0635 m, with three dissimilar inclination angles of 90°, 135°, and 150° were used. The SSG Reynolds stress turbulence closure model was utilized in the analyses. The results show that the flow patterns are affected by the inclination angle with respect to the flow direction. It was noticed that inclination angle increment increases the velocity of flow at the downstream surface of the weir, thus increases the absolute value of the negative pressure, at the inward-moved end of the weir. The outward-moved end of the weir was observed not to be covered with water and extending with the increase of the inclination angle. Ce papier presente une simulation de mecanique des fluides numerique MFN pour etudier les effets de l'obliquite des seuils cylindriques sur la repartition de vitesse d'ecoulement, la repartition de la pression et la repartition de la profondeur de l'eau sur la crete du seuil. Trois seuils cylindriques avec des diametres differents de 0.114 m, 0.09 m et 0.0635 m, avec trois angles d'inclinaison differents de 90 °, 135 ° et 150 ° ont ete utilises. La contrainte turbulence aux modeles de fermeture de Reynolds SSG, a ete utilisee. Les resultats montrent que les modeles d'ecoulement sont affectes par l'angle d'inclinaison par rapport a la direction de l'ecoulement. On a remarque que l'augmentation de l'angle d'inclinaison amplifie la vitesse de l'ecoulement a la surface en aval du seuil, donc augmente la valeur absolue de la pression negative, a l'extremite du seuil deplace vers l'interieur. On a observe que l'extremite du seuil deplace vers l'exterieur n'etait pas recouverte d'eau et prolongeait avec l'augmentation de l'angle d'inclinaison. Abstract

Blockchain as emerging technology is revolutionizing several industries, and its abundant privileges have opened up a bunch of research directions in various industries; thereby, it has acquired many interests from the research community. The rapid evolution of blockchain research papers in recent years has resulted in a need to conduct research studies that investigate a detailed analysis of the current body of knowledge in this field. To address this need, a few review papers have been published to report the latest accomplishments and challenges of blockchain technology from different perspectives. Nonetheless, there has not been any bibliometric analysis of the state of the art in blockchain where Web of Science (WoS) has been taken into consideration as a literature database. Hence, a thorough analysis of the current body of knowledge in blockchain research through a bibliometric study would be needed. In this paper, we performed a bibliometric analysis of all Blockchain's conference papers, articles, and review papers that have been indexed byWoS from 2013 to 2018. We have analyzed those collected papers against five research questions. The results revealed some valuable insights, including yearly publications and citations trends, hottest research areas, top-ten influential papers, favorite publication venues, and most supportive funding bodies. The findings of this paper offer several implications that can be used as a guideline by both fresh and experienced researchers to establish a baseline before initiating a blockchain research project in the future.

Abstract

A stream water wheel is a machine for convertingthe energy of moving water into power. It consists of a large metal wheel, witha number blades arranged on the outer rim which allows the wheel to be rotatedby the water striking the blades. Water wheels were used since ancient as aprimary source of power. It was used for irrigation, grain milling andsupplying villages with water. In the present study, a stream water wheelturbine of 5 m in diameter is numerically simulated using ANSYS-CFX packageunder different flow conditions. The wake region behind the turbine ismonitored where it influences on other turbines next to it. The simulationresults have shown that in case of constructing a farm of wheel turbines, thestreamwise span should not be less than 6 m. The stream wheel turbines worksnormally at a tip speed ratio TSR less than unity.

50. Evaluation of Flow behavior over Broad-Crested Weirs of a Triangular Cross-Section using CFD Techniques

Abstract

Weirs arebarriers placed across a river and designed to control the flowing water inorder to prevent floods, make waterways operable for inland navigation andmeasure flow discharge. Although there are many types of weirs, mainly usedones are sharp-crested, circular-crested (cylindrical), broad crested and ogeeweirs. In the present study, triangular broad-crested weirs are numericallyinvestigated under different flow conditions. Different interior angles of 90o,100o, 110o and 120o are included for theopening of weirs. The flowing water over weirs is simulated using CFDtechniques and evaluated at different flow regimes with inlet discharges of0.012 m3 s-1, 0.036 m3 s-1and 0.06m3 s-1. The simulation results have shown that the waterlevel upstream the weir is inversely proportional to the opening angle, wherean increment of 10o in the opening angle leads to a drop in waterlevel about 1.5 cm. In addition, applying a discharge of 0.012 m3 s-1,an uncovered region with water is created downstream the triangular broad-crestedweirs, while the bed downstream of the rectangular broad-crested weir iscovered with a thin layer of water at the same flow discharge. Theaforementioned results are compared with a comparative data and show goodagreement. By using triangular broad-crested weirs, it is important to measurethe wake region and the hitting point of falling water downstream the weirswhere this area must be strengthened well in order to resist water power andreduce the risk of drift.
