Introduction: The evaluation of peripheral perfusion is essential for the management of diabetic patients, in order to detect the risks of amputations and the evolution of wound healing. Objective: To identify the etiological factors and clinical manifestations that characterize peripheral vascular impairment in diabetic patients.Methodology: An integrative review was carried out in May 2019 using the following databases BDENF, CINAHL, LILACS, MEDLINE and PUBMED with the following descriptors in English and Portuguese: diabetic angiopathies, diabetes mellitus, diabetic foot. The sample consisted of 18 articles. The most frequent etiological factors were Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD), duration of diabetes, peripheral neuropathy, advanced age and smoking. Regarding clinical manifestations, they presented a higher frequency of low Ankle-brachial Index (ITB), low Halluxbrachial Index (IHB), absence of peripheral pulses and delayed healing. Conclusion: PAD was more evident and considered the main cause of vascular involvement, it was found that ABI is not a safe technique to assess peripheral perfusion in diabetic patients and it must be performed in conjunction with IHB, the most reliable alternative. Therefore, it is essential for health professionals to track the etiological factors and clinical manifestations in order to provide targeted care to this at-risk population.

The tiúba produces honey, wax, pollen and geopropolis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the leishmanicidal activity of different samples of geopropolis Melipona fasciculata, aiming to produce a product with leishmanicidal activity. Geopropolis samples were collected in different localities of the municipality of Fernando Falcão-MA and subjected to extractive process withhydroalcoholic solution, obtaining the hydroalcoholic extracts of geopropolis (HEG1, and HEG2 HEG3). The extracts were used for in vitro evaluation of leishmanicidal action, using promastigotes of Leishmania amazonensis. The HEG1, with the highest leishmanicidal activity, was subjected to liquid-liquid partition, resulting in hexanefraction (FH), chloroform fraction (CF), ethyl acetate fraction (AF) and hydroalcoholic fraction (FHA). The fractions were assessed for leishmanicidal activity and antioxidant, and also analyzed for total polyphenol concentration and chemical composition. Extracts of geopropolis showed inhibitory concentration (IC50) between 47-229 μg/mL. The most active extract was EHG1 and its most active fraction was the FA with IC50 of 29.89 μg/mL, while the IC50 FC fractions and FHA showed IC50of 43.21 μg/mL and 49.48 μg/mL, respectively. The HEG1 and fractions leishmanicidalshowed antioxidant activity towards DPPH and high levels of total polyphenols. The hexane fraction showed no leishmanicidal action, and had the lowest antioxidant concentrations of polyphenols. The extracts showed phenolic acids, organic acids, fatty acids, anthraquinones, sugars and alcohols, the analysis by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The most active fraction (AF) showed mainly gallic acid, while the other fractions were identified fatty acids, organic acids, anthraquinones, diterpenes, triterpenes, steroids, sugars and alcohols. In the analysis by High performance liquidchromatographycoupled tomass spectrometry (HPLC-MS) extract the most active fraction were identified phenolic acids, ellagitannins and gallotannins, confirming the data obtained by GC-MS. Based on the results obtained was a byproduct that when tested under the same conditions also showed leishmanicidal action. In conclusion, the leishmanicidal activity of geopropolis Melipona fasciculata is likely to be related to the presence of gallic acid derivaties and ellagic. Melipona fasciculataSmith, ocorre no Brasil, especialmente no estado do Maranhão, onde é popularmente conhecida como tiúba. A tiúba produz mel, cera, geoprópolis e acumula pólen.

Thus, the study aimed to evaluate the use of gelatin-based coating added with red propolis hydroalcoholic extract (RPE) in the conservation of refrigerated broiler breast. Initially, the RPE was analyzed for the total phenolics content, total flavonoids, antioxidant activity (DPPH and ABTS) and compounds identification by high performance liquid chromatography. The films were developed with different concentrations of RPE (30 and 60 g RPE/100 g of gelatin) and characterized as to the total phenolics contente, total flavonoids, antioxidant activity (DPPH and ABTS), color, transparency and water solubility. Broiler breasts were coated with gelatin coatings containing RPE (T1 - no coating; T2 - gelatin coating without RPE addition; T3 - gelatin coating with the addition of 30 g RPE/ 100 g and T4 - gelatin coating with added of 60g of RPE/ 100 g) and microbiological analysis, pH, color, lipid oxidation and weight loss determinations were performed. The consumer's attitude towards the four treatments was also evaluated. RPE showed high antioxidant capacity and the presence of the bioactive compounds liquiritigenin, calicosin, isoliquiritigenin, formononetin and biochanin A. The films containing the highest concentration of RPE were those that obtained the highest values of total phenolics, total flavonoids and antioxidant activity, also showing an increase in thickness and total color difference. Films added with RPE showed lower transparency and higher values of redness and yellowness when compared to the film without RPE, while moisture and water solubility were not significantly affected. The Pseudomonas count in the breast meat was

No. of bitstreams: 1 MARCOS - MARINHO.pdf: 252515 bytes, checksum: 0a5900dff3591c7d825467ad40cd3a9e (MD5) Previous issue date: 2021-07-16 FUNDAÇÃO DE AMPARO À PESQUISA DO ESTADO DO MARANHÃO - FAPEMA COORDENAÇÃO DE APERFEIÇOAMENTO DE PESSOAL DE NÍVEL SUPERIOR - CAPES Brazilian red propolis is produced in the Northeast Region of the country by Apis mellifera L. bees and has Dalbergia ecastophyllum as its botanical source. The literature describes propolis antibacterial, antifungal, antitumor, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, cytotoxic, and antiparasitic activities. The objective of the present study was carrying out a literature review on the chemical composition and leishmanicidal activity of Brazilian propolis by evaluating the leishmanicidal activity and characterizing the chemical composition and palynological profile of red propolis produced in the Brazilian state of Tocantins, a region that has not been mentioned in the literature as a place known for the production of this type of propolis. The first chapter shows a literature survey and discusses studies on evaluation of the chemical composition and leishmanicidal activity of Brazilian propolis found in the following databases: National Library of Medicine (National Institutes of Health, PubMed), Science Direct, Scopus, and Latin America and Caribbean Center on Health Sciences Information. The integrative reviewing method was applied. The search identified 28 articles published between 2004 and 2020 addressing red, green, and brown propolis. Chemical analyses of Brazilian propolis essential oils were carried out by using gas chromatography associated with mass spectrometry or flame ionization and identified the presence of monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, and phenylpropanoids. Analysis of hydroethanolic extracts were carried out by using high-performance liquid chromatography with UV-Vis detection (HPLC/UV-Vis) and connected to mass spectrometer (HPLC/MS), which identified terpenes, phenolic acids, flavonoids, and benzophenones. Studies that assessed the leishmanicidal activity of Brazilian propolis in different species of Leishmaniawere more abundant between 2007 and 2020 and reported use of hydroethanolic extracts, essential oils, polymeric nanoparticles, and metal complexes in combination with propolis to inhibit promastigote and amastigote forms. The second chapter shows the palynological profile of propolis obtained by applying characterization performed by using HPLC/MS in both positive and negative modes. Botanical analysis identified 22 pollen types that belonged to 15 botanical families, among which Arecaceae, Asteraceae, Fabaceae, Myrtaceae, Melastomataceae, Rubiaceae, and Urticaceae were more frequent. Polliniferous and nectariferous species were identified. However, the palynological profile of Dalbergia ecastophyllum, a species related to production of red propolis in the Brazilian Northeast coast, was not obtained. Mass spectra obtained by using HPLC/MS showed a precursor ion fragmentation pattern compatible with compounds belonging to the classes of isoflavonoids, pterocarpanes, flavanones, chalcones, as well as isoflavones condensed with a chalcone (retusapurpurin). The third chapter shows the results of the evaluation of propolis extracts and fractions regarding leishmanicidal activity against the promastigote form of Leishmania amazonensis and cytotoxicity induced in RAW 264.7 macrophages measured by applying the cell viability method with (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide). Total phenolic content and flavonoid concentration were measured by using UV-vis spectrophotometry, whereas chemical composition was obtained by HPLC/MS. The extracts inhibited promastigote forms, with IC50 ranging from 21.98 to 86.12 µg/mL. The chloroform fraction was the most effective (16.02 µg/mL). Evaluation of cytotoxicity against RAW 264.7 macrophages indicated that red propolis extract and chloroform fraction showed cell toxicity for concentrations equal to or higher than 100 µg/mL. The samples had high total phenolic content and flavonoid concentration for extracts and chloroform fraction, whereas HPLC/UV-Vis showed similar chemical profiles, with identification of the substances formononetin and biochanin A in all samples, which are considered chemical markers. The results allowed to conclude that red propolis produced in the Brazilian state of Tocantins has leishmanicidal potential, low cell toxicity, and high concentrations of phenolic compounds. This is the first study oriented toward characterizing red propolis produced in Brazilian Amazon and will contribute to the development of apiculture in Tocantins based on production and commercialization of this product.

Bee products such as honey, propolis, geopropolis, wax, royal jelly and pollen have been used since antiquity for their therapeutic properties and nutraceutical potential. Considering the production chain, bioactivity and chemical composition of Melipona fasciculata products this study proposed the palynological characterization, physicochemical, chemical, nutritional profile, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of M. fasciculata pollen extracts cultivated in Maranhão. A total of 17 pollen samples of M. fasciculata were collected between April 2015 and April 2017 in 5 municipalities in the state of Maranhão, covering the biomes with the largest area in the state in some of their phytogeographic profiles. The palynological analysis of the collected samples showed the dominant pollen types in Santa Luzia do Paruá as Borreria verticillata (Rubiaceae), Hyptis sp. (Lamiaceae), Protium sp. (Burseraceae), Senna sp. (Fabaceae) and Mauritia sp. (Arecaceae), Palmeirândia, Viana and Anajatuba were Pontederia parviflora (Pontederiaceae) and Myrcia sp. (Myrtaceae) and those of Chapadinha, Mimosa sp. (Mimosaceae) and Eucalyptus sp. (Myrtaceae). The microbiological analysis showed all the samples with very low presence of microbiological contaminants. The nutritional composition indicated that the samples presented similarity and that they are within the parameters recommended by the Ministry of Agriculture, except for humidity for two samples and ash content for one. The samples were grouped according to their locality of collection and climatic seasonality (dry season and rainy season), after which they were extracted by maceration for 72 hours with 70% ethanol and 1: 8 hydromodule, totalizing 10 pollen extracts. The extraction yield varied between 53.8 and 64.8%. The extracts obtained were submitted to the total flavonoid and total phenolic compounds assays. The extracts of pollen from Santa Luzia do Paruá (rainy season), Palmeirândia (dry season), Viana (dry season), Anajatuba (rainy season) and Chapadinha (dry season) were submitted to high efficiency liquid chromatography with UV detector -Vis. The presence of β-sitosterol, ellagic acid, coumaric acid, isoquercitrin, quercitrin, myricetin, naringenin, canferol, catechin, β-amirine, coumaric acid, rutin, quercetin, gallic acid and apigenin. The extracts obtained from the pollen samples of M. fasciculata collected in Santa Luzia do Paruá (ESLPs and ESLPc), Palmeirândia (EPALs and EPALc) and Chapadinha (ECHAs) were fractionated and each of their fractions was submitted to the evaluation of the antioxidant activity by the DPPH assay. The result of the evaluation of the antioxidant activity expressed in EC50 varied between 156.24 and 1764.67 μg/ml. The chloroform fractions of all the samples presented better antioxidant activity. The extracts obtained from pollen samples of M. fasciculata collected in Santa Luzia do Paruá in the rainy season (ESLPc), Palmeirândia in the rainy season (EPALc) and Chapadinha in the dry season (ECHAs) were used to evaluate the anti-inflammatory activity in vitro by the inhibition test of cyclooxygenases 1 and 2. The Chapadinha sample presented the highest percentages of enzymatic inhibition in the concentrations of 10 and 50 μg/mL, reaching to inhibit 61.7 and 58.6% of COX1 and COX2, respectively.
