The transition to a patient-focused care model in a hospital setting seems to have been moderately successful. An analysis of collaborative efforts, patient and staff satisfaction, length of hospital stay, and cost was performed in a 42-bed orthopedic unit redesigned according to the patient-focused model. Hospital staff reported decreased efforts at collaboration but increased job satisfaction one year after implementation. Measurements of patient satisfaction improved, hospital stays were shorter, and costs remained the same after implementation.
