Present how the procedures for the implementation of the self-archiving culture of Course Completion (TCC) by students of 29 (twenty-nine) undergraduate courses at the Federal University of Integration Latin American (UNILA) in the Institutional Repository (RIUNILA). The general objective is to present the culture of self-archiving of academic work by students from undergraduate courses at UNILA and aims to specific; i) briefly present the repository; ii) demonstrate the steps to start the culture of self-archiving and, iii) making the points (positive and negative) of this experiment. The methodology used was the bibliographic research and also the description of the steps to achieve the culture of self-archiving in the institution.

It is argued that despite the many changes being experienced by research and specialized libraries, and documentation centers, which cause them doubts about their future, there are some certainties that allow these centers to properly address their activities. It is proposed to distinguish between minor and profound changes and it is affirmed that, for information centers, the fundamental change has been to go from a situation in which information was scarce and the time to look for it abundant, to another in which time to look for information is scarce and information is abundant. This should help redirect the activities of the information centers -following M. Buckland- to stop focusing on the 'information-as-an-object' to concentrate on the 'information-as-a-process'. Two consolidated movements should help them to guide their future: the Open Science and the Digital Humanities. Some information products that reflect a change in the ways people approach and use information are examined: Museo del Prado's The Collection, Transcribe Bentham, eBird and Mapa Literari Català. Finally, the author recommends to documentation centers, and specialized and research libraries to guide their services to digitize their heritage collections in an enriched manner, to promote citizen participation, and to create and strengthen communities.

Collection is a valuable asset to the library. Therefore, the development process requires a special strategy in order to increase the value of such collections in terms of quality, updating and simplicity of access. With the rise of information technology touches, aggregator concept could be one option. The purpose paper is to introduce the concept of a web-based aggregators to be applied as a tool library collection development. Aggregators constructed by utilizing the web services of web sites. In this concept collection can be determined in advance so the quality is maintained and as needed. The update process is set periodically. Web-based to facilitate user when accessing the collection. This advantages is expected to support the development of the collection in the library so that services become more optimal.

The need for information policies and information professionals to automate the production of technical documentation in the GILT industry. // The production of technical documentation has increased considerably over the last few years, as reflected by the development of the GILT (globalisation, internationalisation, localisation, translation) industry. The production cycle for multilingual technical documentation is an industrial process undergoing several different phases. One of these phases is translation, which in professional environments systematically uses computer-aided translation systems. These systems manage linguistic resources such as translation memories and terminology databases, which are exploited by extracting, retrieving and reusing data. These linguistic resources together with technical documents are the most important linguistic assets a translation company has. Therefore, an information policy based on documentary strategies is necessary to prevent the under-utilisation of such assets and thus to improve their exploitation.

This work has as main objective to trace a brief, selective and without will to be exhaustive, for the edition of the book of popular religiosity in Barcelona during the 19th century. This century is especially attractive for the publishing explosion that supposed this type of publications, and that brought with it the massive diffusion of the religious message among the working classes, with editions in vernacular languages ​​(the exclusive edition in Latin was surpassed). The text is divided into four main sections: first, a small introductory framework is presented on the history of the liturgical and religious book in the history of printing, up to the 19th century, together with a small bibliographical selection, and on the that the main work hypothesis of this article will be considered. In second place, a summary is made about the situation of the world of publishing in Barcelona in contemporary times, with special incidence in the field of religious publishing in the city; to pass, in the third place, to carry out a selective review of the editions of popular religiosity that exist in the background of the Episcopal Public Library of the Seminar of Barcelona, ​​focusing on aspects such as the editors (work will be carried out on the five main editors of the city during the XIX century), the edited titles or the themes of them. Finally, to conclude some conclusions are drawn, focused on the role of dissemination and literacy that had these editions, and serve to confirm the hypothesis raised in the introduction.

Review of the Evalutation Report "Informe de la Comisión Externa nombrada por la AVEPRO para la evaluación de la Facultad de Teología de Cataluña (FTC)", in which talking about Public Episcopal Library of Seminar of Barcelona, published by the The Holy See’s Agency for the Evaluation and Promotion of Quality in Ecclesiastical Universities and Faculties (AVEPRO)

Libraries are central, intellectual and integral part of academic life. Academic libraries in principal build resource facilities with an intension to serve large community of academia to meet their teaching, learning, research and innovation needs. The main objective of the study is to rank the National Institute of Technology (NIT) libraries in India zone wise and individual based on resource facilities available at their end. These resource facilities are Computer Infrastructure (CI), Network Infrastructure (NI), Electronic Resources (ER), Manpower (MA), Library Automation (LA), and Networked Services (NS). A methodology adopted for collecting data was questionnaire of survey-based and it was designed in structural form consisting of various facets. This survey has confined to only 20 NIT libraries out of 30 now across the country concerning the resource facilities available. The findings of the study indicate that the performance of NIT libraries among zones, the South zone (79%) was ahead than others. Moreover, 17 NIT libraries previously Regional Engineering Colleges (RECs) have shown admirable performance, whereas three NITs (Patna, Raipur and Agartala) previously old government engineering colleges were at bottom due to lack of education culture, infrastructure, resource and service facilities, managerial support, manpower, skills, funds etc. With respect to resource facilities at NIT libraries, the majority of libraries (85%) have very good CI facilities while NI facilities were relatively similar for many libraries. Three fourth of libraries have more than 50% collections of eresources consist of e-journals, CD-ROMs, audio/video courses etc. Despite of shortage of manpower, seventypercent of libraries have automated their functions. The provisions for NS, 60% of libraries reported that they have offered majority of services through network whereas, 40% of libraries provide limited services. However,multiple resource facilities in the library have significantly role in shaping the academic system, resources and services effectively.

The cultural heritage is under threat in the world and in our country due to the potential hazards and other dangers. These factors are caused by human, technological or natural-induced reasons. Some historical buildings which are used as library and archive buildings have the possibility of damage due to structural problems in case of disaster (Proactive). Precautions must be taken well before any kind of emergency situation or disaster due to protect both these structures as historical monuments, and books, manuscripts and other library and archive materials in historical and modern buildings. These measures may include passive/preventive and/or active conservation methods. This study aimed to examine risk factors by qualitative research method which affect to the library and archive staff, buildings and materials in accordance with the principles IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions) and disaster management. Passive / preventive conservation method proposals are extended for risk reduction.

Purpose. Problem of representation lack of scientists’ publications, including transport scientists, in the international scientometric databases is the urgent one for Ukrainian science. To solve the problem one should study the structure and quality of the information flow of scientific periodicals of railway universities in Ukraine and to determine the integration algorithm of scientific publications of Ukrainian scientists into the world scientific information space. Methodology. Applying the methods of scientific analysis, synthesis, analogy, comparison and prediction the author has investigated the problem of scientific knowledge distribution using formal communications. The readiness of Ukrainian railway periodicals to registration procedure in the international scientometric systems was analyzed. The level of representation of articles and authors of Ukrainian railway universities in scientometric database Scopus was studied. Findings. Monitoring of the portals of railway industry universities of Ukraine and the sites of their scientific periodicals and analysis of obtained data prove insufficient readiness of most scientific publications for submission to scientometric database. The ways providing sufficient "visibility" of industry periodicals of Ukrainian universities in the global scientific information space were proposed. Originality. The structure and quality of documentary flow of scientific periodicals in railway transport universities of Ukraine and its reflection in scientometric DB Scopus were first investigated. The basic directions of university activities to integrate the results of transport scientists research into the global scientific digital environment were outlined. It was determined the leading role of university libraries in the integration processes of scientific documentary resources of universities into the global scientific and information communicative space. Practical value. Implementation of the proposed activity algorithm of Ukrainian universities to integrate the scientific publications into the world digital environment will increase the importance of Ukrainian scientific periodicals, including the railway ones, affect the positive dynamics in the university rating, strengthen the authority Ukrainian science in the world and attract potential investors.

The structuring of institutional repositories by universities contributes to the promotion of its prestige, improvement in the evaluation rankings and, consequently, increase of its relevance and influence. For the Federal University of Latin American Integration (UNILA), whose institutional mission is represented by the training of human resources that will contribute to Latin American integration, regional development and cultural, scientific and educational interchange in Latin America, tools to increase preservation times and expand access to information are vitally important. The repository is expected to contribute to free access to information; facilitate management of information available in digital media; preserve institutional memory and increase the visibility and use of intellectual production developed at the university. This study aims to present the stages of creation of RI-UNILA: contextualizing the Federal University of Latin American Integration (UNILA); rescuing in the specialized literature information for the theoretical support of the work; finally presenting the implementation stages of the repository.

Municipal waste management in the last two decades has become a global environmental priority in the context of increasing amounts of waste generated due to the development of a mass consumer society. Various issues of waste management , territorial and temporal variability, spatial analysis of treatment or disposal facilities, systemic implications on the environment, the harmonization of international policy at national, regional and local level are solid arguments for studying this field by geography. Mostly technical or economic studies, lacking a vision of territory are supplemented in the conceptual and methodological level by geographers. This paper performed on the one hand, an overview of various approaches in current literature on waste management issue and on another hand analyses the geographical contributions in this field. Our conclusions lead to the idea that waste management must be performed according to the geographical features of the territory concerned.

The article shows the results of an evaluation of training in the use of the research resources of the Capes Website of Journals and the Online Directory of Databases, conducted at the Central Library of the State University of Maringá (UEM) in 2004. The evaluation was based on the viewpoints expressed by students of UEM´s Master Program of Pharmaceutical Sciences. In the literature on Library and Information Science, the health sector is identified as a major user of library resources and of research and review services. The perception of users regarding the importance of the Capes Website of Journals to their research needs was identified. Also evaluated was that importance of the librarian as an intermediary between research resources and the acquisition of information. The results of the study revealed that the use of the Website is of great importance and that the librarians’ capability and intermediation are essential to this end. It was also found that the resources of the Capes Website of Journals and of the Online Directory of Databases should be linked to empowerment of its users through presentations and courses provided by librarians.

In recent years we have heard more frequently and increasingly higher “FRBR”, this allows formulating questions such as: Do you know the importance of implementing the FRBR when cataloging? How will those changes reflect in automated catalogs? The application of the methodology actually ensures the satisfaction of the needs of users? Are the catalogers able to apply FRBR? Are the catalogers familiar with the terminology of FRBR? Among these many concerns that try to generate debates on this issue, the objective is that catalogers propose applications to the new changes, new policies for the use cataloging of bibliographic records and more interaction between users and catalogers. In making a proposal for the development of bibliographic records from FRBR, the stage begins to familiarize the catalogers on how to capture information in the records and prepare for changes that will be generated by implementing the new rules FRBR-based cataloging.

Resumen La propiedad industrial es un tema complejo que incluye vasto vocabulario técnico. Especialmente útil para profesionales de la información, quienes buscan adquirir mapas conceptuales en este campo, el artículo presenta la estructura y contexto del patentamiento. Siendo particularmente educativo, informativo y didáctico, el artículo permite reconocer las características de una patente de invención, un modelo de utilidad y un diseño industrial. Al mismo tiempo, el artículo proporciona los requerimientos que afectan la actividad de patentamiento en Chile. Debido a que en Chile los postulantes al registro de una patente deben tramitar el registro de la invención en cada uno de los países en que buscan protección, el aspecto negativo es el hecho de que a pesar de que el patentamiento se sustente en una sólida base de éxito, aspectos relativos a tareas y procedimientos de registro, podrían eventualmente terminar en un sinnúmero de portafolios no tramitados. Buscando evitar estas dificultades, el “Programa de Propiedad Intelectual e Industrial PPII” de la Universidad Tecnológica Metropolitana, UTEM es presentado como estudio de caso entre las Universidades Estatales, para la promoción de la patentabilidad. Abstract Industrial property is a complex issue which includes huge technical vocabulary. Especially devoted to information professionals who are seeking conceptual mapping in this field, this work presents a conceptual framework related to patentability. Being educational, informative and instructive, the paper allows people to recognize differences among an invention patent, a utility model and an industrial design. At the same time, the report provides a list of all the requirements which can affect the patentability of the invention in Chile. Due to in Chile invention’s applicants have to apply for the registration of the invention for any of the countries they seeks protection, the negative point of the patentability is the fact that despite the applicants having good grounds for success, there are many task of managing several registration proceedings that eventually would conclude in a portfolio of different country patents. Looking for avoiding these difficulties the ‘Intellectual and Industrial Property Programme’ at Technological Metropolitan University, UTEM is introduced as case study among the traditional Universities to foster patentability.

The structure, operation and development phases of the Hellenic Interlibrary Loan Network (HILL-net) are described and the pros and cons of the model, as well as the conclusions after nine years of operation are reported. The HILL-net has been the first systematic collaborative activity among Hellenic libraries. After the shift of most member libraries to the digital era, the HILL-net is coexisting, in a symbiotic and complementary way, with access to electronic journals. The network started its pilot operation in 1994, initially with six member-libraries. It currently consists of 127 member-libraries, located in Greece (including one in Cyprus). The network is based on a radial model with all peripheral libraries connected through the internet to a central Union Catalogue of Periodicals, installed on the server of the National Documentation Centre (NDC) in Athens. The system provides online search capabilities to the database of the Union Catalogue and offers facilities of online document ordering of articles included in the journal collections of the member libraries. Delivery of documents is carried out by the “supplier” libraries to “customer” libraries via ordinary mail or fax, and occasionally via e-mail. The clearance of transaction costs is carried out centrally by the NDC for all libraries, thus simplifying financial logistics. A migration of the system from a main-frame host computer system to a web based platform on Oracle environment took place in 1999.

In 1983, the National Hellenic Documentation Centre started the development of the Union Catalogue of Periodicals in the Hellenic Scientific and Technological Libraries. The union catalogue was developed in a database form. Today (January 2000), the union catalogue includes 206 Hellenic scientific, technological and medical libraries, two of which are located in Cyprus. These libraries belong to a wide range of organisational and institutional types, such as universities, hospitals, research institutions, private companies and commercial banks, covering all scientific and technological fields. The total national collection of serials amounts to 22,790 unique titles, which correspond to 57,790 subscriptions. The overlapping coefficient is at 2.53 (= subscriptions per unique journal title). The annual cost comes to 25,195 million Euros (1 Euro = 328 drachmas). A macroeconomic approach is attempted, to investigate the upper and lower levels of savings that could be realised by reduction of over-lapping subscriptions. While library budgets have been continuously cut during recent years, under certain conditions, a reasonable and coordinated reconstruction of the individual libraries’ collections could save every year 20%–50% of the total subscription cost and therefore expand the national collection by the same percentage. Two important steps towards these directions were the development of the Hellenic Interlibrary Loan Network and the Hellenic Academic Library Link.

In a globalized world in which information acquires more spaces in society, the practices of organization, representation and access to these pieces of information perform a new viewpoint in relation to issues concerned with racial matters that, so far, are not highlighted in practice. Due to this fact, the cornerstones of information-knowledge-learning society and taking into account the documental burst, the need to prioritize the positive participation of groups that, for so long, are considered minorities has been perceived. This focuses on the position in regard to the practices of organization and representation of information with reference to the new informational demands and to the search interests of each individual. The priority is to accomplish the acknowledgement of libraries as places constituent of memory, disseminating ethnic and racial information able to construct positive images by fulfilling their role of serving the community, in a general way, and answering, in practice, to the demands of cultural diversity assuming thus the commitment to organize, represent and disseminate ethnic and racial information suitably.

The article considers several stages of the development of the Czech information base oriented in technical information. The beginnings of technical reporting are appearing with the development of industrial enterprises in 18th and 19th century. That period is characterized by efforts to introduce some types of technical news which would inform tradesmen about production and products of potential competitors. In the beginning of the 20th century technical literature can be found in technical libraries and in the departments of main industrial companies. Later in 1944, Technical Information Centre determines the future structure of complex nationwide information system later called VTEI (Scientific, Technical and Economic Information) which is divided into three stages. The first stage is characterized by the tendency towards the centralization of the split information centres, the second one starts by the release of government Decree No. 606/1959 about unified system of libraries and continues by the establishment of the Czechoslovak system ÚVTEI (the Centre of Scientific, Technical and Economic Information), the third stage is characterized by the automatization of information process and by the utilization of foreign database centres together with building up the system of ÚTZ (Central Technical Base). In 1991 ÚVTEI-ÚTZ transforms into NIS (National Information Centre) which provides services till 1997. After that its competencies are divided among some ministries and state departments. The period of the 90s is characterized by the development of telecommunications, technical infrastructure and input of computer technology into library systems. New conceptions of informational services are being created as well as new projects concerning the free usage of the Internet.

This article analyzes the task and functions that develop in a center of documentation of a technological institute like AIMPLAS and the marketing of its services of information. Its services are directed to the companies of the plastic.

Aims. To present the tools known as Keyword Research Tools, which are frequently used in SEO and SEM to identify keywords that can help a website to improve its position on search engines. Methodology. The main tools in Keyword Research are analyzed – some of them integrated into sophisticated marketing platforms, while others are freely available. The work focuses on the description of their main functions related to keywords. Results. The importance of knowing how users search to optimize webpages is emphasized. Tools that can support optimization by identifying the relevant keywords are also evaluated.

Social networking is a social structure that lets the user interact and work collaboratively with other users, in an environment where the facility to browse, search, and invite friends and to connect and interact with web world is available. Social software in the web 2.0 will not only enhances the usability of the library but also helps the librarians to add value to their profession, in an environment in which the potential of the librarian is being questioned. The paper describes the possible implications of social networking technologies in the field of library and information services in the web 2.0 milieu. In addition, an attempts to illustrate different social software tools and their effective utilization in the social networking environment. The author cites some stunning examples of libraries being run in the world using the web 2.0 technologies. The paper makes an attempt to highlight the role of information professionals in using web 2.0 technologies the digital library environment.
