Libraries are central, intellectual and integral part of academic life. Academic libraries in principal build resource facilities with an intension to serve large community of academia to meet their teaching, learning, research and innovation needs. The main objective of the study is to rank the National Institute of Technology (NIT) libraries in India zone wise and individual based on resource facilities available at their end. These resource facilities are Computer Infrastructure (CI), Network Infrastructure (NI), Electronic Resources (ER), Manpower (MA), Library Automation (LA), and Networked Services (NS). A methodology adopted for collecting data was questionnaire of survey-based and it was designed in structural form consisting of various facets. This survey has confined to only 20 NIT libraries out of 30 now across the country concerning the resource facilities available. The findings of the study indicate that the performance of NIT libraries among zones, the South zone (79%) was ahead than others. Moreover, 17 NIT libraries previously Regional Engineering Colleges (RECs) have shown admirable performance, whereas three NITs (Patna, Raipur and Agartala) previously old government engineering colleges were at bottom due to lack of education culture, infrastructure, resource and service facilities, managerial support, manpower, skills, funds etc. With respect to resource facilities at NIT libraries, the majority of libraries (85%) have very good CI facilities while NI facilities were relatively similar for many libraries. Three fourth of libraries have more than 50% collections of eresources consist of e-journals, CD-ROMs, audio/video courses etc. Despite of shortage of manpower, seventypercent of libraries have automated their functions. The provisions for NS, 60% of libraries reported that they have offered majority of services through network whereas, 40% of libraries provide limited services. However,multiple resource facilities in the library have significantly role in shaping the academic system, resources and services effectively.
