The unreasonable use of agrochemicals and various human activities in the environment of Al‐Sin Lake basin may cause pollution to water, especially with widely used organophosphate pesticides, which have an effect on the human nervous system. This research sought to determine concentrations of dichlorvos of the synthetic organophosphate pesticide in the waters of the environment surrounding Al‐Sin Lake in the Syrian coastal area. A questionnaire form was dispensed to the local residents in the region, to determine the status of the studied area. Ground and surface water samples were collected from several locations surrounding the Lake. The first site is surrounded by greenhouses and a citrus orchard. The second is the Surit spring. The third site includes greenhouses. The fourth site represents surface water (Lake Surit). The study lasted for seven consecutive months from December until June 2020–2021, samples were taken once a month. Various parameters (pH, EC, TDS, and PO4−3) were measured. Dichlorvos was extracted from the samples using solvents (hexane‐acetone) to be ready for analysis using high‐performance liquid chromatography. The results showed the presence of dichlorvos residues in the studied water samples, with average concentrations ranging between 0.2 and 1.3 µg.L−1, which were higher than the recommended value for individual pesticide in water (0.1 µg.L−1) as recommended by the European Union. Observations of dichlorvos concentration indicated some increase at lower pH. Consequently, contamination of ground and surface waters with dichlorvos was observed in the studied sites, because of its frequent use and its high solubility in water. In this study, we developed novel BiOBr/WO2.72 nanocomposites (abbreviated as BO/WO) and systematically investigated their photocatalytic degradation performance against the pesticide dichlorvos under visible light irradiation. The experimental results demonstrated that the BO/WO nanocomposites achieved an 85.4% degradation of dichlorvos within 80 min. In comparison, the BO alone achieved a degradation degree of 66.8%, and the WO achieved a degradation degree of 64.7%. Furthermore, the BO/WO nanocomposites retained 96% of their initial activity over five consecutive cycles, demonstrating exceptional stability. Advanced characterization techniques, such as high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) confirmed the composition and catalytic mechanism of the composite material. The findings indicated that the BO/WO nanocomposites, through their optimized Type-I heterojunction structure, achieved efficient separation and transport of photogenerated electron–hole pairs, significantly enhancing the degree of degradation of organophosphate pesticides. This research not only propels the development of high-performance photocatalytic materials, but also provides innovative strategies and a robust scientific foundation for mitigating global organophosphate pesticide pollution, underscoring its substantial potential for environmental remediation. The fall army worm (FAW) (Spodoptera frugiperda) is a polyphagous pest which causes damage to commercially important cultivated crops such as maize, rice, sorghum, cotton and also different vegetable crops. Carboxyl esterases (CarE, EC.3.1.1.1) or esterases are enzymes in the carboxyl / cholinesterase gene family that catalyze the hydrolysis of carboxyl esters. The carboxylesterases enzyme are the detoxification enzymes in FAW. Therefore, the inhibition of carboxylesterases from FAW would help in pest management. In this scenario, Isolation, purification and inhibition studies were carried out on the midgut carboxylesterase enzyme of FAW. Through a combination of steps including centrifugation, ammonium sulfate gradient precipitation, DEAE-Cellulose ion exchange chromatography, the enzyme was purified from fifth instar larvae of FAW. The final purified carboxylesterase after ion exchange chromatography had a specific activity of 7282.22 units / mg protein, 5.6 – fold of crude homogenate, and a yield of 25%. The purity of esterase was established by PAGE and SDS-PAGE. The SDS-PAGE revealed a molecular weight of approximately 45kDa to 66kDa. Our studies on the purified midgut carboxylesterase showed complete inhibition by organophosphorous inhibitor (10-4 M). The enzyme was also inhibited by 1x concentration of Lizol (disinfectant) and by different natural extracts (1x) as well.

ABSTRACT This report describes an outbreak of exogenous organophosphate poisoning in a flock of Lacaune sheep. Forty sheep had signs of delayed poisoning after accidental exposure to an organophosphate-based insecticide (Diclorvol 1000 CE®, Diclorvós 82,5%, ChemoNE, Brazil). The clinical signs were bradycardia, bronchoconstriction, diarrhea, salivation, nasal discharge, apathy, prostration, motor incoordination, head pressing against objects, neck stiffness, paresis, flaccid paralysis of the limbs, permanent decubitus, pedaling movements in lateral decubitus, and death. After the onset of the clinical signs, sheep died in the flock over a period of sixty days. For the diagnosis, four animals were necropsied and samples of their brains, kidneys, and lungs were taken for toxicological analysis by thin layer chromatography; blood samples were also taken for biochemical analysis. The following was detected: liver alterations in serum biochemistry; pneumonia, edema, and congestion in macroscopic pathological analysis; hepatic microsteatosis, congestion, edema, and hemorrhage in lung, kidney, and liver histology; and organophosphates in the pool of samples from the sheep that were necropsied. The association between the epidemiological clinical findings and the laboratory results showed a clinical picture of organophosphate-induced delayed polyneuropathy, highly lethal in sheep, which alerts to the risk of improper use of these substances in animal facilities.

Background: The continuous use of pesticides, such as dichlorvos, is a common agricultural and domestic practice. However, it is associated with shortfalls like testicular toxicity through the induction of oxidative stress-mediated signaling. On the other hand, L-arginine, a precursor of nitric oxide, has been reported to exert antioxidant activities and thus may attenuate dichlorvos-induced testicular toxicity. Aim: Hence, this study was designed to evaluate the effect of L-arginine treatment on dichlorvos-induced testicular toxicity. Materials and methods: Forty male Wistar rats were randomly assigned into four equal groups. The control rats were administered 0.5 mL of distilled water, dichlorvos- (DDVP-) treated rats were exposed to DDVP via inhalation for 15 min, DDVP + L-arginine-treated rats were exposed to DDVP and also received 100 mg/kg b.w/day, while L-arginine-treated rats received 100 mg/kg b.w/day. Results: DDVP exposure significantly reduced testicular nitric oxide, relative testicular weight, lowered sperm count, viability, and motility, and suppressed serum FSH, LH, and testosterone levels. These findings were associated with a rise in testicular malondialdehyde, TNF-α, IL-6, and 8OHdG levels and caspase 3 activities, and a reduction in GSH and superoxide dismutase. Additionally, on histopathological examination, DDVP was observed to reduce mature sperm cells in the seminiferous tubular lumen and induce focal vascular congestion in the interstitial space. Nonetheless, L-arginine treatment significantly attenuated DDVP-induced biochemical and histological alterations. Conclusion: This study showed that L-arginine attenuated testicular toxicity by improving epididymal sperm variables and male sex hormones by suppressing oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis in DDVP-exposed rats.

Organophosphorus poisoning is a critical condition that can cause central nervous system depression, respiratory failure, and death early on. As its clinical manifestations closely resemble those of carbamate pesticide poisoning, the aim of this case study is to present a case of misdiagnosis, initially identifying carbofuran poisoning as organophosphate in a patient suspect of a heatstroke. We also present a case of intentional self-poisoning with organophosphate dichlorvos to underline the likelihood of pesticide poisoning in patients exhibiting acute cholinergic symptoms when the ingested substance is not known. In such cases, empirical treatment with atropine and oxime can be started pending timely differential diagnosis to adjust treatment as necessary.

The contamination of edible agricultural goods with pesticides, including dichlorvos (DVDP), poses a substantial public health risk, promoting severe morbidity and mortality, especially in developing countries. It has been shown that hesperidin (hesperetin-7-O-rhamnoglucoside or Hes-7-RGlc) preserves cytomembrane, redox, and lipid homeostasis; unfortunately, its function on dichlorvos-incited heart damage has not been investigated. This work explored the ameliorative influence of Hes-7-RGlc on DVDP-activated cardiotoxicity. While pesticides help prevent crop loss, overuse is damaging to the environment and can cause many health issues. The main intention of the present study was to detect and assess different pesticide residues on paddy field soils at Chittur Taluk in Palakkad, India. Approximately 72 soil samples were collected from different paddy fields at Chittur immediately after two weeks of the application of pesticides. The commonly used pesticides by farmers in Chittur include Almix, BACT 805, Emida, Chilli King, Ekalux, Fenval, Glycel, Karate, Nuvan, Sultan 505, and Takila. We screened for the presence of 38 pesticides using the QuEChERS-PRRAL/MOA-08 method, and chlorpyrifos and dichlorvos were detected. The results indicated the steps to be taken for controlling pesticide residues in paddy field soils for a healthy, sustainable ecosystem for long-term farming activities and biodiversity protection. Dichlorvos (2, 2-dichlorovinyl dimethyl phosphate) is an organophosphate compound used to control household and public health. It is effective against mushroom flies, aphids, spiders, caterpillars and white flies in greenhouse and vegetable crops. The cellular detoxification processes may be different and represent a more general and well-known situation of oxidative stress due to the production of free radicals. The present investigation was aimed at studying the Dichlorvos in fish Channa punctatus. The value of LC50 of Dichlorvos was determined as 1.26 ppm for Channa punctatus. The Multi‐Threat Medical Countermeasure (MTMC) technique is crucial for developing common biochemical signaling pathways, molecular mediators, and cellular processes. This study revealed that the Nod‐like receptor 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome pathway may be a significant contributor to the cytotoxicity induced by various organophosphorus pesticides (OPPs). The study demonstrated that exposure to six different types of OPPs (paraoxon, dichlorvos, fenthion, dipterex, dibrom, and dimethoate) led to significant cytotoxicity in BV2 cells, which was accompanied by increased expression of NLRP3 inflammasome complexes (NLRP3, ASC, Caspase‐1) and downstream inflammatory cytokines (IL‐1β, IL‐18), in which the order of cytotoxicity was dichlorvos > dipterex > dibrom > paraoxon > fenthion > dimethoate, based on the IC50 values of 274, 410, 551, 585, 2,158, and 1,527,566 μM, respectively. The findings suggest that targeting the NLRP3 inflammasome pathway could be a potential approach for developing broad‐spectrum antitoxic drugs to combat multi‐OPPs‐induced toxicity. Moreover, inhibition of NLRP3 efficiently protected the cells against cytotoxicity induced by these six OPPs, and the expression of NLRP3, ASC, Caspase‐1, IL‐1β, and IL‐18 decreased accordingly. The order of NLRP3 affinity for OPPs was dimethoate > paraoxon > dichlorvos > dibrom > (fenthion and dipterex) based on KD values of 89.8, 325, 1,460, and 2,690 μM, respectively. Furthermore, the common molecular mechanism of NLRP3‐OPPs was clarified by the presence of toxicity effector groups (benzene ring, nitrogen/oxygen‐containing functional group); =O, ‐O‐, or =S (active) groups; and combination residues (Gly271, Asp272). This finding provided valuable insights into exploring the common mechanisms of multiple threats and developing effective therapeutic strategies to prevent OPPs poisoning. Plain Language Summary: This study aimed to explore the role of Nod‐like receptor 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome activation in organophosphorus pesticide (OPPs)‐induced cytotoxicity. BACKGROUND: Organophosphorus pesticides (OPs) were used in large quantities, and pesticide residues have caused different degrees of environmental pollution. Because the current laboratory detection techniques cannot meet the requirements of quickly and accurately monitoring pesticide concentration, there is an urgent need for a portable and accurate method to trace pesticide residues. This paper reports an effective electrochemical sensor composed of ZrO2@PDA electrode material and glassy carbon electrode (GCE). RESULTS: This sensor displayed optimal selectivity for dichloride among various OPs with a low limit of detection (LOD = 1.318 × 10−3 mg L−1). Wherein the accuracy and reliability of this electrochemical sensor were verified through the standard method of gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) (p = 0.977 > 0.05), as well as the stability and anti‐interference capabilities. In addition, the results of recovery experiments have shown that the recovery rate of the electrochemical sensor for dichlorvos ranged from 89.2% to 103.8%, with RSD less than 5%, indicating its practical application in the actual sample detection. CONCLUSIONS: Finally, the portable sensing platform for on‐site analysis of dichlorvos concentration in farmland water samples was also demonstrated with excellent results. Objective: Unusual clinical course. Background: Pyloric obstruction after dichlorvos poisoning causes repeated vomiting and inability to eat. Choledocholithiasis and cholelithiasis are the common digestive diseases, with high morbidity and relapse in elderly patients. However, the complex situation of these diseases' coexistence is a clinically intractable problem, and literature on selecting optimal surgical planning is scarce. Case Report: A thin 79-year-old woman took dichlorvos due to family conflicts. She improved after being urgently sent to local hospital for gastric lavage and detoxification. Over the next 3 months, she presented with intermittent nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, and mental apathy, and was readmitted. Gastroscopy showed extensive scarring in the antrum, pyloric obstruction, and gastric retention. Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography revealed gallstones and choledocholithiasis. Also, she presented with gastric retention, hypertension, moderate anemia, hypoproteinemia, and electrolyte disturbances. After hospitalization, conservative treatment was performed, without improving vomiting, followed by surgical treatment. Gastrojejunostomy, Braun anastomosis, and nasojejunal feeding tube placement were performed for pyloric stenosis; cholecystectomy for cholelithiasis; and choledochotomy, intraoperative choledochoscopy examination, basket stone extraction, and primary suture of common bile duct without indwelling T tube for choledocholithiasis. Patient recovered and was discharged 9 days after surgery. She was recovered well, without vomiting, at 2-month follow-up. Conclusions: Gastrojejunostomy plus Braun anastomosis is effective treatment of elderly patients with pyloric obstruction formed after pesticide-induced corrosion. Careful selection of choledocholithotomy with primary suture without indwelling T tube reduced postoperative pain and accelerated recovery. The precise selection and concentration of active ingredients play a pivotal role in enhancing the mortality of T. urticae. In the present study, various parameters including droplet size, spray coverage percentage, deposition, penetrability, and distribution uniformity across the eggplant canopy were examined. Two pesticides, Dichlorvos 50% ES and Sulfur 80% WG, were used at different concentrations (50, 75, and 100 ml l-1 for Dichlorvos and 1, 3, and 5 g l-1 for Sulfur) in this study. The whole experiment was set up following complete randomized block design consisting of three blocks. Pesticides were applied at the test concentrations to evaluate their efficacy. The key findings involved significant variations in T. urticae mortality based on the active ingredients and their concentrations. Higher concentrations, especially of dichlorvos, exhibited a significantly high T. urticae mortality compared to sulfur. However, the deposition of active ingredients on the leaves did not influence the droplet characteristics on the target for both types. We developed a novel chromogenic reagent and sensor by selective approach, for the detection and identification of dichlorvos, which we tested with the thin layer chromatography method. For the first time, we reported in situ-generated glyoxal as a hydrolysis product, which then interacts with isoniazid to produce a yellow-colored cyclic compound. We used well-known spectroscopic techniques to confirm the chemical identity of the final product. We initially investigated the reaction using a variety of approaches, followed by attempts to establish the reaction mechanism using Density Functional Theory by Gaussian software.

Background: The rising use of formulated insecticides called for an evaluation of their effects on the substantia nigra defensive mechanisms to identify potential therapeutic windows. Objectives: The purpose of this study is to assess the defense system of substantia nigra after shortterm exposure to formulated pyrethroid insecticide. Materials & Methods: A total of 32 adult Wistar rats were randomly assigned to 4 groups, each consisting of 8 animals. Group A was kept as the control group, while groups B, C, and D were given a mixture of dichlorvos and cypermethrin for 2 h, 3 h, and 4 h/d, respectively, for 4 weeks. The neurobehavioral test was carried out on the final day of exposure. The animals were sacrificed and cardiac perfused with heparinized saline 24 h after the last exposure. An occipitofrontal incision was made to remove the brain to assess glucose and astrocytes. After the brain mapping, the fixation was performed in 10% neutral buffered formalin for 48 h. Results: Groups A, B, C, and D had glucose levels of 68.91, 71.66, 74.27, and 75.85 mg/dL, respectively, and all of them were statistically significant at P=0.000. The astrocyte expressions were 19.50, 31.13, 33.63, and 57.88 μg/mL in groups A, B, C, and D, respectively, and groups C and D were statistically significant at P=0.026 and P=0.000, respectively, while group B was not significant at P=0.086. The means of motor function were 1.42, 1.33, 1.10, and 0.75 minutes in groups A, B, C, and D, respectively, and the groups B, C, and D were not statistically significant at P=0.999, P=0.936, and P=0.850, respectively. Conclusion: Regarding the blood-brain barrier and the gliosis process, the structural integrity of astrocytes serves as the first line of protection against xenobiotic (foreign substance) inversion of the brain. According to this research, the increased astrocyte expression and elevated glucose levels are attempts to maintain motor capabilities after exposure to insecticides with pyrethrin formulations, which explains the time-dependent slow decline in the motor activities of the experimental animals.

Dichlorvos, an organophosphate compound, has the potential to cause acute kidney injury (AKI) besides its well-known neuromuscular complications. We report a case of severe-recurrent AKI that progressed to end-stage-renal-disease (ESRD) following accidental exposure to Dichlorvos. A 52-year-old male farmer presented with breathlessness after accidental exposure while spraying in the field. He required mechanical ventilation due to allergic pneumonitis and developed anuric AKI, requiring renal replacement therapy (RRT). Biopsy revealed severe acute tubulointerstitial nephritis (ATIN), which responded to steroids, and the patient became dialysis-independent by 4 weeks. Two weeks later, the patient had recurrent AKI requiring RRT. A repeat biopsy revealed severe ATIN. However, despite steroid treatment, he progressed to ESRD. Organophosphate compounds can cause renal injury with a wide spectrum of presentations, ranging from subclinical AKI to severe dialysis-dependent renal failure, which may eventually progress to end-stage renal disease. We performed a thorough systematic review of published literature to determine potential links between human health impacts and naled, a registered adult mosquito control product (adulticide), and its major degradate, dichlorvos (DDVP). A search query was performed on 8 September 2023, capturing all articles published up to that date on the Scopus and PubMed databases. Inclusion criteria were the presence of either pesticide and a measured or modeled human health outcome or risk. The search string resulted in 382 articles; however, 354 articles were excluded, resulting in only 28 articles that met the inclusion criteria. The studies that directly relate to aerosolized ultra-low volume (ULV) mosquito control applications did not report any associated deleterious human health outcomes. Results from the reviewed papers displayed no negative health effects or led to inconclusive results. No studies showed adverse health effects from aerial ULV applications for mosquito management. Our findings are congruent with the United States Environmental Protection Agency and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations that aerial applications of naled, following label parameters, do not pose an adverse risk exposure to humans, wildlife, and the environment.

Introduction: Contamination of water sources with toxins is an environmental problem and a serious threat to the health of societies. This study aimed to ascertain the remaining levels of toxins in urban drinking water networks and compute the water quality index. Materials and Methods: To examine the residual concentration of diazinon, chlorpyrifos, and dichlorvos in urban drinking water distribution networks, 35 underground and surface water sources were sampled in Tiran-o-Karvan in Isfahan province, Iran. GC-ECD device was used to analyze the samples. Results: Diazinon was not observed in any of the sampling seasons. The maximum concentration of chlorpyrifos and dichlorvos was 61 and 100 ppb, respectively. Although chlorpyrifos was seen more in the hot season and dichlorvos in the cold season, the mean concentration of these toxins in different seasons was lower than the guidelines of Iran and the World Health Organization (WHO). The mean concentration of nitrate, and hardness, in wet and dry seasons was 46.23 and 46.42, and 343.7 and 338.8 mg/l, respectively. Conclusion: The mean and standard deviation of quality index of Iran's water resources (IRWQI) in wet and dry seasons were 52.16 ± 45.3 and 50.69 ± 15.8, respectively. The residual concentration of toxins in some water sources of this city exceeded the guidelines of Iran and the WHO in summer and spring.

An occipitofrontal incision was made to remove the brain to assess glucose and astrocytes. After the brain mapping, the fixation was performed in 10% neutral buffered formalin for 48 h. Results: Groups A, B, C, and D had glucose levels of 68.91, 71.66, 74.27, and 75.85 mg/dL, respectively, and all of them were statistically significant at P=0.000. The astrocyte expressions were 19.50, 31.13, 33.63, and 57.88 µg/mL in groups A, B, C, and D, respectively, and groups C and D were statistically significant at P=0.026 and P=0.000, respectively, while group B was not significant at P=0.086. The means of motor function were 1.42, 1.33, 1.10, and 0.75 minutes in groups A, B, C, and D, respectively, and the groups B, C, and D were not statistically significant at P=0.999, P=0.936, and P=0.850, respectively. Conclusion: Regarding the blood-brain barrier and the gliosis process, the structural integrity of astrocytes serves as the first line of protection against xenobiotic (foreign substance) inversion of the brain. According to this research, the increased astrocyte expression and elevated glucose levels are attempts to maintain motor capabilities after exposure to insecticides with pyrethrin formulations, which explains the time-dependent slow decline in the motor activities of the experimental animals. Trichlorfon, one of the most widely used organophosphate insecticides, is commonly employed in aquaculture and agriculture to combat parasitic infestations. However, its inherent instability leads to rapid decomposition into dichlorvos (DDVP), increasing its toxicity by eightfold. Therefore, the environmental effects of trichlorfon in real-world scenarios involve the combined effects of trichlorfon and its degradation product, DDVP. In this study, we systematically investigated the degradation of trichlorfon in tap water over time using HPLC and LC–MS/MS analysis. Subsequently, an experiment was conducted to assess the acute toxicity of trichlorfon and DDVP on goldfish (Carassius auratus), employing a 1H NMR-based metabolic approach in conjunction with serum biochemistry, histopathological inspection, and correlation network analysis. Exposure to trichlorfon and its degradation product DDVP leads to increased lipid peroxidation, reduced antioxidant activity, and severe hepatotoxicity and nephrotoxicity in goldfish. Based on the observed pathological changes and metabolite alterations, short-term exposure to trichlorfon significantly affected the liver and kidney functions of goldfish, while exerting minimal influence on the brain, potentially due to the presence of the blood–brain barrier. The changes in the metabolic profile indicated that trichlorfon and DDVP influenced several pathways, including oxidative stress, protein synthesis, energy metabolism, and nucleic acid metabolism. This study demonstrated the applicability and potential of 1H NMR-based metabonomics in pesticide environmental risk assessment, providing a feasible method for the comprehensive study of pesticide toxicity in water environments. • The addition of an organophosphate esterase inhibitor, dichlorvos, stabilized remdesivir (RDV) during equilibrium dialysis for plasma protein binding (PPB) determination. • Dichlorvos did not impact the unbound fraction (f u) of RDV in plasma, and an equilibrium dialysis method for RDV was developed with the addition of dichlorvos. • Tenofovir alafenamide (TAF) was more stable than RDV by a factor of 3 but was not stabilized by dichlorvos. Fit-for-purpose acceptance criteria for equilibrium dialysis (ED) were implemented during PPB method development for TAF. • PPB methods for RDV and TAF were qualified and applied to PPB determinations for clinical studies. Remdesivir (RDV) and tenofovir alafenamide (TAF) are prodrugs designed to be converted to their respective active metabolites. Plasma protein binding (PPB) determination of these prodrugs is important for patients with possible alteration of free fraction of the drugs due to plasma protein changes in renal impairment, hepatic impairment, or pregnancy. However, the prodrugs' instability in human plasma presents a challenge for accurate PPB determination. In this research work, two approaches were used in the method development and qualification for PPB assessment of RDV and TAF. For RDV, dichlorvos was used to inhibit esterase activity to stabilize the prodrug in plasma during equilibrium dialysis (ED). The impact of dichlorvos on protein binding was evaluated and determined to be insignificant by comparing the unbound fraction (f u) determined by the ED method with dichlorvos present and the f u determined by an ultrafiltration method without dichlorvos. In contrast to RDV, TAF degradation in plasma is ∼3-fold slower, and TAF stability cannot be improved by dichlorvos. Fit-for-purpose acceptance criteria for the TAF PPB method were chosen, and an ED method was developed based on these criteria. Synthetic and natural insecticides have successfully controlled the Indian meal moth (Plodia interpunctella Hübner). However, little is known about how Indian meal moth reacts in a stressed environment caused by synthetic and botanical insecticides. Therefore, this study compared the effects of dichlorvos (DDVP) and ginger (Zingiber officinale L.) rhizome extract oil on larval and adult mortality, hatchability and adult emergence, and on neurotransmitters and digestive enzymes of Indian meal moth under laboratory conditions of 75 ± 5% relative humidity and 25 ± 5 °C. The insects were exposed to different concentrations of 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, and 0.5% of dichlorvos and ginger extract oil for 96 h. Ginger rhizome extract oil caused 100% mortality in newly emerged adult Indian meal moths within 96 h at all concentrations. DDVP and ginger extract oil were ineffective against the third instar larval stage of the Indian meal moth, at varying concentrations that caused adult mortality. DDVP and ginger rhizome extract oil significantly affected digestive enzymes and acetylcholinesterase activities at lethal concentrations used in treatment. Protease activity was significantly increased in larvae exposed to extract oil than DDVP. Acetylcholinesterase activities in the adult insects exposed to maize grains treated with DDVP were higher than those exposed to maize treated with ginger extract oil. Dichlorvos or 2,2-dichlorovinyl dimethyl phosphate (DDVP) (C 4 H 7 C l 2 O 4 P) is a chlorinated organophosphorus pesticide, which is frequently detected in agricultural wastewater. Herein, a batch reactor was used to carry out the supercritical water oxidation (SCWO) of a synthetic wastewater containing dichlorvos as a very hazardous agricultural pollutant. To do so, the impact of four operating parameters including dichlorvos concentration (100–500 ppm), oxidant coefficient (0.7–2), temperature (300–500°C) and time (0–100 s) on dichlorvos removal was optimized by the response surface method (RSM). According to the obtained results, at optimal conditions (i.e. initial concentration of dichlorvos 107.5 ppm, oxidation ratio 1.9234, temperature 419.9°C and time 79.94 s), as an index for dichlorvos removal, the chemical oxygen demand (COD) was found to be about 96.34%. Also, the results of high-performance liquid chromatography test showed that dichloroacetaldehyde (C2CL2H2O) and dichloroacetic acid (C2CL2H2O2) were created as intermediate substances during the dichlorvos degradation. Further, the molecular dynamics simulation was performed using ReaxFF force field to show the reaction path and products obtained in each step of the dichlorvos removal. We performed a thorough systematic review of published literature to determine potential links between human health impacts and naled, a registered adult mosquito control product (adulticide), and its major degradate, dichlorvos (DDVP). A search query was performed on 8 September 2023, capturing all articles published up to that date on the Scopus and PubMed databases. Inclusion criteria were the presence of either pesticide and a measured or modeled human health outcome or risk. The search string resulted in 382 articles; however, 354 articles were excluded, resulting in only 28 articles that met the inclusion criteria. The studies that directly relate to aerosolized ultra-low volume (ULV) mosquito control applications did not report any associated deleterious human health outcomes. Results from the reviewed papers displayed no negative health effects or led to inconclusive results. No studies showed adverse health effects from aerial ULV applications for mosquito management. Our findings are congruent with the United States Environmental Protection Agency and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations that aerial applications of naled, following label parameters, do not pose an adverse risk exposure to humans, wildlife, and the environment. In environmental toxicology, combined toxicity has emerged as an important concern. Atrazine (ATZ), dichlorvos (DIC), and imidacloprid (IMD) are the major pesticides, extensively used to control insect, flies, mosquitoes, and weed. Here, we investigate whether the exposure to three different types of pesticides individually and in combination for 24 h alters antioxidant enzyme responses in zebrafish (Danio rerio). Oxidative stress parameters (biochemical and mRNA expression), acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity, and Metallothionein-II (MT-II) mRNA expression levels were measured. Present work includes toxicological assessment of individual and combined (CMD) exposure of ATZ (185.4 µM), DIC (181 µM), IMD (97.8 µ), and CMD (ATZ 92.7 µM + DIC 90.5 µM + IMD 48.9 µM), in the liver, kidney, and brain of adult zebrafish. Lipid peroxidation (LPO), glutathione (GSH) content, AChE, superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activity along with mRNA expression of SOD, CAT, GPx, and MT-II were evaluated. Briefly, LPO, GSH content, the activity of AChE, and all antioxidant enzymes enhanced significantly in individual exposure, which was further altered in the CMD group. The mRNA expression of SOD, CAT, GPx, and MT-II in the liver and kidney showed significant down-regulation in all exposed groups. In the brain, significant upregulation in mRNA expression of SOD, CAT, GPx, and MT-II was observed in DIC and IMD groups, while ATZ and CMD showed significant downregulation except for GPx. Findings postulate that the CMD group exhibits synergistic toxic manifestation. In this work, a facile one‐step green synthesis was developed for the fabrication of blue fluorescent copper nanocluster (Brahmi‐CuNCs) from the extract of Bacopa monnieri (common name is Brahmi) via a microwave method. The as‐prepared Brahmi‐CuNCs emitted blue fluorescence at 452 nm when excited at 352 nm and showed a quantum yield of 31.32%. Brahmi‐derived blue fluorescent CuNCs acted as a probe for fluorescence sensing of dichlorvos. Upon the addition of dichlorvos, the blue emission for Brahmi‐CuNCs was gradually turned off, favouring establishment of a calibration graph in the range 0.5–100 μM with a detection limit of 0.23 μM. The as‐synthesized Brahmi‐CuNCs exhibited marked sensitivity and selectivity towards dichlorvos, favourable for assaying dichlorvos in various samples (cabbage, apple juice, and rice). Excessive use of organophosphate pesticides (OP), such as dichlorvos, in farming system poses a threat to human health through potential contamination of environment. To date, biodegradation has been prospected most promising approach to eliminate environmental OP residues. Trichoderma species as a biological control microorganism is often exposed to the chemical pesticides applied in environments, so it is necessary to understand the mechanism of degradation of dichlorvos by Trichoderma. In this study, dichlorvos significantly inhibited the growth, sporulation and pigmentation of T. atroviride T23, and the dichlorvos degradation activity of T23 required the initial induction effect of dichlorvos and the culture conditions, including the nutrient and pH values of the medium. Various changed primary and secondary metabolites released from T23 in the presence of dichlorvos were speculated as the energy and antioxidants for the strain itself to tolerate dichlorvos stress. The results showed that T23 could produce a series of enzymes, especially the intracellular enzymes, to degrade dichlorvos. The activities of the intracellular enzyme generated by T23 were differentially changed along time course and especially relied on initial dichlorvos concentration, ammonium sulfate and phosphate added in the medium. In conclusion, some dichlorvos-induced chemical degradation related enzymes of T23 were proved to be involved in the degradation of dichlorvos.

Background: The dichlorvos is reported to cause toxic effects by inducing oxidative stress via modification in antioxidant enzymes. Besides, the neurotransmitters (NTs) linked enzyme acetylcholinesterase (AChE) is also inhibited in the kidneys of dichlorvos treated mice. The exact mechanism of toxic action of dichlorvos on AChE gene expression is not clearly understood. Purpose: The present study is aimed to elucidate a possible mechanism by which dichlorvos induces nephrotoxicity in mice. Moreover, it is further clarified that how AChE gene expression gets modified in dichlorvos treated mice. Study design and methods: The study was carried out on healthy male mice, 4–5 weeks old weighing 21±1 g. The animals were equally divided into two groups. The first group served as control, whereas the animals of the second group were given dichlorvos 40 mg/kg b.w. i.p. for 21 days. To evaluate the effect of cypermethrin (CP) and dichlorvos (2,2-dichlorovinyl dimethyl phosphate, DDVP) on the striatum of adult Wistar rats. Thirty-two animals were grouped into 4; group A (control) inhaled fresh air, and groups B, C, and D were exposed to a formulation of 5 mm-1 (4.4 ppm) of dichlorvos and 10 mm-1 (8.7 ppm) of cypermethrin insecticide for 2hrs/day, 3hrs/day and 4hrs/day respectively. We utilized the wire suspension test to demonstrate the neurobehavioral changes across the four groups of animals to identify the animal groups that have lost their motor function. Following the neurobehavioral test, the animals were weighed, anesthesized and dissected for brain tissue harvesting. Half of the brain tissue was frozen for biochemical analysis while the other part was fixed in 10% Neutral Buffered Formalin for two days and grossed to isolate the brain tissue of interest for histopathology. The results from the neurobehavioral studies show a significant decrease in motor function of the experimental groups. There was a significant elevation in the malondialdehyde and glucose levels of all the exposed groups, while their various antioxidant levels decreased significantly (p<0.05). Histopathological features were observed across the exposed groups ranging from the presence of vacuolated neuronal cells, neuronal cell shrinkage, and chromatolysis, which characterize the neurodegenerative effect of cypermethrin and dichlorvos on the striatum. Background and Aim: Diphenhydramine is an H1-antihistamine that counteracts the toxic effects of organophosphate and carbamate insecticides that inhibit cholinesterase (ChE) activity. This meta-analysis aimed to investigate the effects of diphenhydramine on ChE inhibition induced by these insecticides in the plasma, erythrocytes, or whole brain of experimental animals. Materials and Methods: A data search was performed on erythrocyte, plasma, and brain ChE inhibition caused by organophosphate and carbamate insecticides in experimental animals (mice, rats, and chicks) treated with the antihistamine diphenhydramine in accordance with preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis, which was done by the two-group random-effects model meta-analysis. The meta-analysis included 18 records extracted from six studies that appeared from 1996 to 2022. Results: Using the random-effects model, a two-group meta-analysis revealed that the combined effect size (ChE inhibition) was significantly more favorable in the control group than in the diphenhydramine intervention, as shown by a forest plot. The combined effect size (standardized mean difference) was 0.67, with a standard error of 0.3, a lower limit of 0.04, and an upper limit of 1.29 (p = 0.025). The heterogeneity was moderate, as I2 of the combined effect size was 74%, with a significant Cochrane Q-test result (Q = 65, p < 0.0001). Subgroup analysis indicated that, with brain ChE inhibition, the heterogeneity (I2) became 5%, which was lower than ChE inhibition in plasma (84%) and erythrocytes (78%). No publication bias was identified using the funnel plot and Egger's test. Conclusion: This meta-analysis suggests that, in addition to its documented antidotal action against ChE-inhibiting insecticides, diphenhydramine can also reduce the extent of ChE inhibition, especially in the brain, which is the main site of toxicity of these insecticides. There is a need for additional studies to assess such enzyme inhibition in different parts of the brain.

Pesticide use is an integral part in global agricultural practice, however, these chemicals have recently been identified as emerging pollutants that impact on ecosystem health and sometimes require remediative intervention. This study assessed the biodegradative ability of species of Bacillus on the organochlorine herbicide, paraquat and the organophosphorus insecticide, dichlorvos. The Bacillus isolates were identified based on their genomic, biochemical and morphological characteristics while the ability of the isolates to degrade the pesticides was determined by monitoring changes in optical density, pH, total viable count and pesticide concentration in in vitro systems over an 18-day period using pesticide-modified mineral salts broth. The two Bacilli isolates were identified as Bacillus crassostreae and Bacillus niabensis. The organochlorine herbicide was more readily utilised by the axenic Bacillus isolates and their mixed culture than the organophosphorus insecticide as evidenced by variations in turbidity and counts. Biodegradation was more effective with the mixed culture than with the axenic cultures. Pesticide degradation levels of 64.26 % - 93.70 % and 70.43 % - 98.20 % were observed for the insecticide and herbicide respectively for both the bacilli and their mixed culture as revealed by gas chromatography analysis. The degradation efficiencies of the two bacilli for both dichlorvos and paraquat showed significant differences from each other and from the mixed culture at 95% confidence interval. The study established the potential of Bacillus crassostreae, Bacillus niabensis and their mixed culture to be employed as inocula in the detoxification of pesticide-contaminated environmental media. Naled, an organophosphate insecticide, is applied aerially at ultra-low volumes over aquatic ecosystems near Sacramento, California, USA, during summer months for mosquito control. Two ecosystem types (rice fields and a flowing canal) were sampled in 2020 and 2021. Naled and its primary degradation product (dichlorvos) were measured in water, biofilm, grazer macroinvertebrates, and omnivore/predator macroinvertebrates (predominantly crayfish). Maximum naled and dichlorvos concentrations detected in water samples one day after naled application were 287.3 and 5647.5 ng/L, respectively, which were above the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's aquatic life benchmarks for invertebrates. Neither compound was detected in water more than one day after the application. Dichlorvos, but not naled, was detected in composite crayfish samples up to 10 days after the last aerial application. Detections in water from the canal showed that the compounds were transported downstream of the target application area. Factors such as vector control flight paths, dilution, and transport through air and water likely affected concentrations of naled and dichlorvos in water and organisms from these aquatic ecosystems. This research aimed to assess the toxicological effects of dichlorvos insecticide (2,2-dichlorovinyl dimethyl phosphate or DDVP) on haematological indices of female Wistar rats and to investigate the antioxidant properties of vitamins C and E in ameliorating haematotoxicity. The rats were divided into 6 groups; control-water, control-oil, dichlorvos group, dichlorvos + vitamin C group, dichlorvos + vitamin E group and dichlorvos + vitamin C + E group. Dichlorvos and vitamins were orally administered to rats with an interval of half an hour between treatments. The control-oil group was given 2 ml corn oil and the control-water group was given water adlib. The treatments were done for 28 consecutive days and blood samples were taken by cardiac puncture. The following haematological parameters were analysed: RBC, WBC, Hb, PCV, MCV, MCH, MCHC and THR. Bone marrow smears were prepared on 14th and 28th days for various blood stem cells evaluation and spleen tissues for histopathology. There was a significant decrease (p 0.01) in RBC counts, PCV, MCV and MCH values, whereas the WBC, THR counts and MCHC values increased significantly (p 0.01) in dichlorvos treated rats as compared to the controls and dichlorvos + vitamins cotreated groups. There were no significant differences in blood parameter counts between controls and dichlorvos + vitamins co-treated groups. In the bone marrow smear of the dichlorvos treated group, there was increased number of megakaryocytes and mature neutrophils. In conclusion, findings from the current study revealed that, vitamins C and E supplements were capable of mitigating the haematotoxic effects induced by dichlorvos insecticide in Wistar rats. A complex mixture of organic pollutants (EOPs) enters the environment, which has potential impacts on aquatic life and human health.This cross-sectional study investigated dermal and inhalation exposure to the pesticides imidacloprid and dichlorvos and evaluated the health risk in cucumber greenhouses applicators in the Amzajerdagriculturalarea, Hamadan Province, western Iran. A patch method and a personal air sampler with XAD-2 absorbent were used to measure potential exposure. In mixing and loading, dermal exposure on the hands was 1.15 mg for imidacloprid and 2.27 mg for dichlorvos. During the application of imidacloprid and dichlorvos, total dermal exposure was 8.49 and 16.21 mg, respectively. The calculated absorbable quantities of exposure (AQE) during mixing/loading were 0.0017 mg/day for imidacloprid and 0.0054 mg/day for dichlorvos, whereas AQE during application were 0.159 and 0.437 mg/day, respectively. The arms were the most contaminated anatomical regions of the applicators. The potential inhalation exposure contributed to <7% of the total exposure for both pesticides. For risk assessment, the margin of safety (MOS) was calculated. The MOS for imidacloprid was higher than 1, indicating that the possible risk associated with imidacloprid was low, whereas the MOS for dichlorvos was <1, which indicates a potential risk to the human body that merits concern from policy makers in pest management. The present work deals with the synthesis of biodegradable hydrogel of a natural polysaccharide aloe vera and vinyl monomer acrylic acid. In this synthesis, ammonium persulfate–glutaraldehyde was used as initiator-cross-linker system, acrylic acid as monomer and aloe vera as backbone. Grafting was confirmed by different techniques like SEM, FT-IR, XRD and EDS. Maximum percentage swelling of synthesized hydrogel was found to be 756%. Biodegradation behavior of synthesized hydrogel [Av-cl-poly(AA)] was studied by soil burial, composting and vermicomposting methods. Maximum biodegradation was found to be 90%, 94% and 93% in case of soil burial, composting and vermicomposting methods, respectively. Biodegradation of Av-cl-poly(AA) was confirmed by FT-IR and SEM techniques. Water retention capacity was prolonged from 11 to 20 days using synthesized Av-cl-poly(AA). Water content of clay soil and sandy loam soil was increased to an extent of 6.1% and 5.79%, respectively. Synthesized Av-cl-poly(AA) has been found to be effective in sustained release of harmful pesticide dichlorvos. Organophosphate pesticides are widely used in agriculture, leading to soil, water, and food contamination. Among these compounds is Dichlorvos [O,O-dimethyl O-(2,2-dichlorovinyl)phosphate, DDVP], which is listed as a highly toxic compound by the Environmental Protection Agency and World Health Organization. Exposure to DDVP can result in nervous, respiratory, hepatic, and reproductive abnormalities, in addition to endocrine disrupting, mutagenic, and carcinogenic effects. Little is known about the impacts of DDVP on the reprogramming of lipid metabolism, which is also associated with the development and progression of cancer, since the tumor cells need to recruit, capture, and use fatty acids to compose their building membranes. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of the pesticide DDVP on lipid metabolism in the prostate, after chemical induction by the carcinogen N-methyl-N-nitrosourea (MNU). For this, 32 Fischer rats aged 90 days were randomly divided into four experimental groups: Control, DDVP, MNU, and MNU + DDVP. The MNU and MNU + DDVP groups underwent chemical induction with MNU (15 mg/kg) and the DDVP and MNU + DDVP groups received a diet supplemented with DDVP (10 mg/kg). Histopathological analyses of the rat ventral prostate showed 100% incidence of epithelial hyperplasia in the MNU and MNU + DDVP groups. This finding was accompanied by an increase of the epithelial compartment in the MNU + DDVP group. Immunolocalization of important proteins linked to lipid metabolism has been established. In the MNU + DDVP group, Western blotting analyses pointed out an increased expression of the protein LIMP II (Lysosomal Integral Membrane Protein-II), which is correlated with the capture and distribution of lipids in tumor cells. Together, these results indicate that the association of a low dose of DDVP with MNU was able to promote alterations in the morphology and lipid metabolism of the rat ventral prostate, which may be related to tumor progression in this organ.

[Objective] To explore the removal methods of pesticide residues in leafy vegetable waste. [Method] Using Chinese cabbage and cabbage waste as test materials, the leaf surface was sprayed with dichlorphos 1∶ 1 000 times liquid, and then subjected to sunning, boiling, microwave oven heating, Bacillus subtilis, compost treatment for chopped leaves, compost treatment for whole leaves. The effect of different treatment methods on the agricultural residue content of leaf vegetable waste was studied. [Result] With the passage of application time, the inhibition rate of enzyme of sample extract under different treatment methods showed a regular change of decreasing; boiling for 2 min, microwave heating for 3 min, 0.3% Bacillus subtilis treatment of samples with inhibition rate less than 70% required the least time and minimum mean value, and Chinese cabbage samples with inhibition rate less than 70% required time and average value were significantly lower than cabbage samples, but after 10 days, the average value of all samples was lower than 70%, that is, qualified pesticide residues. [Conclusion] The operation of boiling for 2 min, microwave heating for 3 min and 0.3% Bacillus subtilis has obvious effect on the degradation of organophosphorus pesticides in Chinese cabbage and cabbage waste, and the best effect on Chinese cabbage. Abstract Dichlorvos is an organophosphorus insecticide frequently detected in surface waters all around the world. From an evaluation of the environmental quality concentrations (EQC) for dichlorvos in surface waters adopted by different countries, it was observed a wide variability among them. This is despite regulatory EQC-values are typically based on toxicity data and species sensitivity distribution (SSD) in all the investigated regulatory frameworks, and therefore should be similar. Hence, what is the cause of the differences between national and regional EQC-values? And, which ones will protect the aquatic fauna? These hypotheses were proposed to explain differences among SSDs based on the choice of toxicity data: (i) EQC values obtained from technical presentation (pure dichlorvos) will be higher than the estimated from dichlorvos formulation (containing other substances to improve the efficiency of the active principle), as they may include synergists; (ii) different taxa will have different sensitivities; (iii) data produced under different experimental conditions will severely affect the SSD. Regarding their capacity to protect the aquatic fauna the hypotheses were; iv) environmental concentration of dichlorvos represents a risk for aquatic organisms; and v) not all EQC-values are protective for the aquatic fauna. These were tested through a meta-analysis of toxicity data enabling the construction of SSD’s across technical and formulated dichlorvos and species of several taxa, and across literature and experimental data produced under analogous conditions. Finally, the EQC elaborated were compared with a meta-study on monitored environmental concentrations. The study suggested that technical dichlorvos increased toxicity compared to formulated products up to two-fold for arthropods. Species phylogeny affected sensitivity, but the SSD derived values used for setting regulatory concentrations were remarkably robust to the inclusion/exclusion of less sensitive species. The SSD results from the literature and experimental data were similar in the case of technical dichlorvos results. The regional differences in EQC values therefore most likely stem from political considerations on how to use SSDs to derive EQCs rather than from differences in SSDs. The experimental SSD defined a protective concentration of 6.5 ng L− 1 for 5% of the species, which is according to the European EQC, but one to two-fold lower than the limit values of the US, China, and Argentina.

Background: Dichlorvos, the Dimethyl Dichlorovinyl Phosphate (DDVP) poisoning is common due to its frequent usage as a food preservative. This is determining to assessing the reversal of DDVP-induced neurodegeneration by Mimosa pudica Methods: Fifty (50) adult BALB/c mice were randomly assigned to five groups (A-E) of 10 mice each. Group A mice were given normal feed and water, Group B mice were treated orally with 400 mg/kg body weight (b.wt.) of Mimosa pudica, Group C mice were fed with 2.5% of 2, 2- DDVP poisoned feed (7ml of DDVP in 300ml of water, sprayed on the feed), Group D mice were fed 2.5% DDVP poisoned feed simultaneously with 400mg/kg b.wt. of Mimosa pudica (MP) orally; and Group E mice were fed 2.5% DDVP poisoned feed for 14 days and then treated orally with 400mg/kg b.wt. of Mimosa pudica for the remaining 14 days. The exposure lasted for 28 days through oral administration. Behavioural studies to assess spatial and non-spatial memory of the mice were carried out on the 27th day using the Y-Maze and Novel Object Recognition (NOR) test. On the 28th the mice were sacrificed using chloroform as anaesthesia. Immunohistochemical studies were perfused transcardially using normal saline followed by perfusion with 10% formal saline.Values were analyzed using Graphpad prism version 5.0. P values was set at 0.05, 0.01 and 0.001. Results: Neurodegeneration was observed in animals exposed to DDVP contaminated feed while treatment with MP after DDVP exposure ameliorated the degeneration taken together. Conclusion: It was concluded that exposure to DDVP contaminated feed induces damage in the hippocampus which leads to synaptic loss and neurodegeneration.

Background and Aim: Diphenhydramine is an H1-antihistamine that counteracts the toxic effects of organophosphate and carbamate insecticides that inhibit cholinesterase (ChE) activity. This meta-analysis aimed to investigate the effects of diphenhydramine on ChE inhibition induced by these insecticides in the plasma, erythrocytes, or whole brain of experimental animals. Materials and Methods: A data search was performed on erythrocyte, plasma, and brain ChE inhibition caused by organophosphate and carbamate insecticides in experimental animals (mice, rats, and chicks) treated with the antihistamine diphenhydramine in accordance with preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis, which was done by the two-group random-effects model meta-analysis. The meta-analysis included 18 records extracted from six studies that appeared from 1996 to 2022. Results: Using the random-effects model, a two-group meta-analysis revealed that the combined effect size (ChE inhibition) was significantly more favorable in the control group than in the diphenhydramine intervention, as shown by a forest plot. The combined effect size (standardized mean difference) was 0.67, with a standard error of 0.3, a lower limit of 0.04, and an upper limit of 1.29 (p = 0.025). The heterogeneity was moderate, as I2 of the combined effect size was 74%, with a significant Cochrane Q-test result (Q = 65, p < 0.0001). Subgroup analysis indicated that, with brain ChE inhibition, the heterogeneity (I2) became 5%, which was lower than ChE inhibition in plasma (84%) and erythrocytes (78%). No publication bias was identified using the funnel plot and Egger's test. Conclusion: This meta-analysis suggests that, in addition to its documented antidotal action against ChE-inhibiting insecticides, diphenhydramine can also reduce the extent of ChE inhibition, especially in the brain, which is the main site of toxicity of these insecticides. Dichlorvos (2, 2-dichlorovinyl dimethyl phosphate) is an organophosphate compound used to control household and public health. It is effective against mushroom flies, aphids, spider, caterpillars and white flies in greenhouse and vegetable crops. The cellular toxification processes may be different represent a more general and well known situation of oxidative stress due to the production of free-radicals. Present investigation was aimed to study of the Dichlorvos in fish Channa punctatus. Value of LC50 of Dichlorvos was determined as 1.26 ppm for C. punctatus.
