We study the superconducting state of the two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) at the LaAlO3/SrTiO3 interface using Josephson junctions as spectroscopic probes. The transport properties of these devices reveal the presence of two superconducting gap structures and of an unconventional superconducting π channel. These features provide evidence of an unconventional superconducting ground state, possibly related to the interplay between superconductivity and the large Rashba spin-orbit coupling in the 2DEG.

Ce document présente quelques constats saillants sur l’évolution des carrières politiques des parlementaires fédéraux de 1957 à nos jours sous l’angle de la place des différents échelons fédéraux dans leur carrière politique. Notre étude a pour but d’identifier dans quelle mesure, au fil du temps, les échelons communaux et cantonaux restent des étapes importantes dans les carrières politiques fédérales. Siéger dans un organe législatif ou exécutif communal ou cantonal constitue-t-il toujours une étape indispensable pour accéder au Parlement fédéral ? Les parlementaires cumulent-ils toujours plusieurs mandats électifs ? Nous cherchons par là à proposer un bref état des lieux de l’évolution des carrières politiques des parlementaires fédéraux en nous centrant sur la « sensibilité » cantonale et communale des élus fédéraux au cours de leurs carrières depuis les années 1950. Cette analyse nous offre ainsi des constats pour penser l’évolution du fédéralisme suisse. Même si certaines ruptures peuvent être identifiées, ce sont plutôt les nombreuses continuités qui prévalent. Les données portent essentiellement sur quatre cohortes de parlementaires du Conseil national et du Conseil des Etats (1957, 1980, 2000, 2016) dont nous analysons les différentes étapes de leur carrière politique. = Das vorliegende Dokument präsentiert einige auffallende Erkenntnisse aus einer Analyse der Entwicklung der politischen Karriere der Bundesparlamentarierinnen und -parlamentarier von 1957 bis heute unter dem Blickwinkel der Bedeutung der verschiedenen föderalen Ebenen in ihrem Werdegang. Unsere Studie befasste sich mit der Frage, inwiefern die kommunalen und kantonalen Ebenen weiterhin bedeutende Etappen für eine politische Karriere auf Bundes- ebene sind. Ist ein Amt in einem legislativen oder exekutiven Organ einer Gemeinde oder eines Kantons immer noch ein unerlässlicher Schritt auf dem Weg ins Bundesparlament? Nehmen Parlamentarierinnen und Parlamentarier weiterhin mehrere politische Mandate wahr? Wir haben eine kurze Bestandsaufnahme der Entwicklung der politischen Karriere der Parla- mentsmitglieder vorgenommen und uns dabei auf die Frage konzentriert, wie sehr sich die Bundesparlamentarierinnen und -parlamentarier in ihrer Laufbahn seit den 1950er Jahren um kantonale und kommunale Belange gekümmert haben und diesbezüglich sensibilisiert sind. Diese Analyse liefert Ansätze, um über die Entwicklung des Schweizer Föderalismus nach- zudenken. Auch wenn gewisse Brüche zu erkennen sind, überwiegen eher die zahlreichen Kontinuitäten. Die untersuchten Daten betreffen im Wesentlichen vier Kohorten von Mitgliedern des Natio- nal- und Ständerates (1957, 1980, 2000, 2016), deren verschiedenen Etappen ihrer politi- schen Laufbahn einer Analyse unterzogen wurden.

Eumelanins, the black insoluble photoprotective biopolymers of human skin and eyes, have recently emerged as a promising resource for bioinspired and biocompatible functional materials. The reason for this is rooted in their unique properties including semiconductor-like behavior, broad band absorption, permanent paramagnetism, efficient non-radiative UV-dissipation. Organic (bio)electronics appears the first target for a competitive exploitation of eumelanins in material science, nonetheless the low conductivity of these pigments is limiting the implementation of eumelanin based devices. We recently designed and produced a novel organic/organic hybrid material by integration of conductive graphene-like (GL) layers within eumelanin pigment. GL layers were obtained by a two-step oxidation/reduction of carbon black. The stability of GL over a wide pH range and the self-assembling tendency place this material in a leading position for the fabrication of hybrid materials in aqueous media. The hybrid was obtained inducing the polymerization of eumelanin precursors (5,6-dihydroxyindole, DHI and 5,6-dihydroxyindole-2 carboxylic acid, DHICA) in presence of GL layers. The new material was structurally and electrically characterized. This material featured promising biocompatibility and reversible hydration-dependent conductivity. These results may open new perspectives in the design of a nature-inspired biocompatible interfaces and their implementation in bioelectronics and nanomedicine.

We present scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy measurements of the charge-density wave state in 1T-TiSe2, Cu0.05TiSe2, and Cu0.06TiSe2 single crystals. Topography images at 4.2 K reveal that the charge density waves are present in all samples studied, although the amplitude of the charge modulation decreases with the Cu doping. Moreover, the chiral phase of the charge density wave is preserved also in Cu-doped samples. Tunneling spectroscopy shows that there is only a partial gap in the pure compound, with bands crossing the Fermi surface. In the Cu-doped samples, the system becomes more metallic due to the increase of the chemical potential.

We report a detailed study of the transport properties of Nd(1+x)Ba(2-x)Cu(3)O(7-delta) thin films with doping changed by field effect. The data cover the whole superconducting to insulating transition and show remarkable Similarities with the effect of chemical doping in high critical temperature superconductors. The results suggest that the add-on of carriers is accompanied by an electronic phase separation, independent on the details of the doping mechanism.

A series of MgB$_2$ thin films systematically disordered by neutron irradiation have been studied by Scanning Tunneling Spectroscopy. The c-axis orientation of the films allowed a reliable determination of local density of state of the $\pi$ band. With increasing disorder, the conductance peak moves towards higher voltages and becomes lower and broader, indicating a monotonic increase of the $\pi$ gap and of the broadening parameter. We have measured the temperature and magnetic field dependencies of the critical current density J(c)(H,T) in MgB2 thin films, in situ deposited by sputtering. Three-dimensional point like normal core pinning was evidenced by measurements of the magnetic dependence of the pinning forces independently from the superconducting and structural quality of the investigated films. The analysis of the experimental data in terms of the collective pinning model has pointed out the presence of a crossover magnetic field from a single vortex to a small vortex bundle pinning regime. A DeltaT(c) pinning mechanism, i.e., a pinning associated with spatial fluctuations of the transition temperature, has been evidenced by the temperature dependence of this crossover field, in agreement with previous observations performed on MgB2 bulk materials.

We performed tunneling spectroscopy on high quality superconducting YNdxBa2-xCu3O7-delta thin films using a low-temperature scanning tunneling microscope. Superconducting regions show very well-defined gap structures. Disorder introduced by Nd substitution at the Ba site dramatically affects locally the quasiparticle density of states. The measurements show that the impurities induce surface resonant states at energies very close to the Fermi energy, typical of a d-wave superconductor.
