Aim: To evaluate, tomographically, in two clinical cases, the effect of the new MTA formulation of the Angelus, the MTA Repair HP, in the contribution to remission of periapical lesions in paraendodontic surgery, as well its physical properties and manipulation. Case report: Patient R.C.R, 57, attended at the Faculty of Dentistry of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora for evaluation of periapical lesion in the element 11. It was observed, at the clinical and radiographic exams, endodontic treatment and a circumscribed, unilocular and radiolucid area at the apex of the tooth. It was requested a CBCT exam (I-Cat®, Imaging Sciences International, Hatfield, Pennsylvania, USA), which confirmed the presence of the lesion and rupture of the buccal cortical plate. Thus, it was performed curettage, apicectomy, retropreparation and retrofilling with the described cement. It was solicited two additional CBCT exams at the period of three and five months post-operative. Patient R.J.G.M, 46, with mean complain of pain, increased intraoral volume and purulent discharged in the upper left arch. The clinical and radiographic exams revealed fistula and refractory lesion, despite the endodontic treatment of the tooth 25. A CBCT exam was done and it was observed a circumscribed hypodense area, around the apex of the 25, with rupture of the buccal cortical plate. It was suggested the same surgical treatment described in the case above. It was performed two more CBCT exam, at three and five months after the procedure. Discussion: The MTA Repair HP was developed from the necessity of a more biocompatible material with the dental structures in the retrograde filling process. This product helps in the remission of periapicals lesions and in the new formation of the periodontum components; also it has the advantages of longer setting time, not causing the darkening of the coronary portion and easier manipulation. Conclusion: Regarding the remission of the lesions, it was noticed the generation of calcified tissue across the periods of three and five months. Regarding the manipulation and application, it was not observed any improvement related to the addition of the plasticizer. However, it was noticed a shorter setting time, making it difficult to insert the material., Objetivo: Avaliar tomograficamente, em dois casos clínicos, o efeito da nova formulação do MTA, o MTA Repair HP, na contribuição para a remissão de lesões periapicais em cirurgias paraendodônticas, bem como a sua manipulação e as suas propriedades físicas. Relatos de caso: Paciente R.C.R., 57, reportou-se à Faculdade de Odontologia da Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora para avaliação de lesão periapical no elemento 11. Ao exame radiográfico, observou-se tratamento endodôntico e uma área radiolúcida, unilocular, circunscrita envolvendo o ápice dentário. Solicitou-se um exame de TCFC (I-Cat®, Imaging Sciences International, Hatfield, Pensilvânia, EUA), no qual foi confirmada a presença da lesão com rompimento da cortical óssea vestibular. Foram realizadas apicectomia, curetagem, retropreparo pela Técnica Clássica, e retro-obturação com o novo material. Realizaram-se tomografias nos momentos pós-operatórios de três e cinco meses. Paciente R.J.G.M., 46, relatava dor, aumento de volume intraoral e drenagem de secreção purulenta na arcada superior esquerda. Aos exames clínico e radiográfico, observou-se presença de fístula e lesão refratária ao tratamento endodôntico no dente 25. Realizou-se TCFC, na qual pode-se observar a presença de uma área hipodensa circunscrita, envolvendo o ápice do 25, com rompimento da cortical óssea vestibular. Foi proposto o mesmo tratamento descrito no caso anterior. Para o acompanhamento foram realizadas novas tomografias nos mesmos tempos pós-operatórios do caso anterior. Discussão: O MTA Repair HP surgiu da necessidade de um material mais biocompatível com as estruturas dentárias no procedimento de obturação retrógrada. Este produto auxilia na regressão de lesões periapicais e na formação dos componentes do periodonto e apresenta como vantagens, o maior tempo de presa, não provocar o escurecimento coronário e maior facilidade na manipulação. Conclusão: Conclui-se que houve formação de tecido calcificado no decorrer dos tempos de três e cinco meses. Em relação à manipulação do material, não foi observada melhora pela adição de agente plastificante. Contudo, observou-se um tempo de presa menor do que o esperado, dificultando a inserção do material.

Orientador: Jose Roberto Tamburis Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Odontologia de Piracicaba Resumo: O objetivo neste trabalho foi avaliar a influência da utilização do filtro de Estanho na qualidade da imagem radiográfica. Para avaliação laboratorial foram realizadas radiografias de uma escala de densidade utilizando filtros de Alumínio (1,5mm), Estanho de 0,05mm (Sn1) e Estanho de 0,5mm (Sn2). Os fatores físicos da radiação (tempo de exposição, quilovoltagem e dose) foram monitorados. Após o processamento radiográfico, obtiveram-se as leituras densitométricas dos degraus da escala. Para cada radiografia foram construídas as curvas de densidade óptica e de contraste. Os valores das áreas das curvas de contraste para os três filtros foram submetidos a tratamento estatístico. Para a avaliação clínica do filtro de Estanho foram radiografados phantoms constituídos de dentes humanos. As radiografias interproximais obtidas foram avaliadas por 25 cirurgiões dentistas quanto à presença ou ausência de cáries proximais, utilizando uma escala de cinco escores. Posteriormente, os dentes foram seccionados e analisados microscopicamente (padrão ouro). As áreas sob curvas ROC foram determinadas para selecionar o filtro que apresentou a melhor performance no diagnóstico de cárie proximal. Os resultados mostraram diferenças significativas nos valores do contraste radiográfico para os três filtros, sendo que o filtro Sn2 apresentou o maior contaste (-2,538), seguido pelo filtro de Alumínio (-2,288) e pelo filtro Sn1 (-2,242). Analisando a área sob a curva ROC observou-se que o filtro Sn1 (0,6510) não apresentou uma redução da performance para o diagnóstico de cárie proximal quando comparado ao filtro de Alumínio (0,6319). Para o filtro Sn2 o valor da área foi de 0,6299. Além disso, o filtro Sn1 necessitou de um menor tempo de exposição e apresentou uma redução na dose de 12%, tornando-se uma alternativa viável para a utilização em aparelhos de raios X odontológicos Abstract: This study aimed to evaluate the influence of the use of a tin filter on the quality of the radiographic image. For the laboratory evaluation, radiographs of a stepwedge were obtained using aluminum filters (1.5mm), tin of 0.05mm (Sn1) and tin of 0.5mm (Sn2). The physical radiation factors (exposure time, kilovoltage and dose) were monitored. After development, the densitometric readings of the stepwedge steps were obtained. For each radiograph, optical density and contrast curves were constructed. The values of the areas of the contrast curves for the three filters were submitted to statistical analysis. For the clinical evaluation of the tin filter, phantoms comprised of human teeth were radiographed. Twenty-five dentists evaluated the bitewing radiographs obtained with regard to the presence or absence of approximal caries, using a five-score scale. Next, the teeth were sectioned and analyzed microscopically (gold standard). The areas under ROC curves were determined to select the filter that presented the best performance in the diagnosis of approximal caries. The results showed significant differences in the radiographic contrast values for the three fi Iters , with the Sn2 filter presenting the greatest value (-2.538), followed by the aluminum filter (-2.288) and the Sn1 filter (-2.242). The analysis of the area under ROC curve showed that the Sn1 filter (0.6510) did not present a reduction in performance for diagnosing approximal caries when compared with aluminum filter (0.6319). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2019-10-01 Having complete information about a patient’s mandibular canal and mental foramen is fundamental to performing safer procedures and avoiding intraoperative and postoperative complications. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) produces accurate images for the analysis of maxillomandibular bone structures and is widely used in dentistry. The aim of this study is to report a case of mandibular bifid canal associated with triple mental foramina that was revealed with CBCT images. A 45-year-old woman was referred for a CBCT scan of remaining bone quantity to assist in preoperative implant planning. The patient had reported problems related to anesthesia during extraction of the mandibular right second and third molars. Examination showed bilateral bifurcation of the mandibular canal, from the mandibular foramen to the gonial angle. In addition, exteriorization of the mandibular canal was noticed in 3 regions; that is, there were 3 distinct mental foramina. Clinicians must be aware of these anatomical variations in the mandibular region during dental procedures to avoid complications such as difficulty in obtaining anesthesia or postoperative sensory dysfunction. Este estudo visou detectar e quantificar os erros encontrados em radiografias periapicais realizadas por alunos do Programa de Treinamento Profissional em Radiologia da Faculdade de Odontologia da UFJF. Um total de 855 radiografias foram avaliadas por quatro examinadores, e divididas em oito Grupos, de acordo com a região radiografada. Cada uma das radiografias foi avaliada quanto aos erros de técnica e de processamento. As regiões com maior quantidade de radiografias descartadas (maior número de erros) foram as de molares superiores (20,46%) e inferiores (19,06%). O erro mais prevalente foi a presença de riscos elacerações na radiografia (18,66%), seguido pelo erro de corte da região apical dos dentes (11,98%) e radiografia manchada (11,39%).Descritores: Radiologia.
