Purpose: To investigate the esthetic outcomes based on the color differences in zirconia (Zr) of varying thickness, resin cement color, and types of titanium (Ti) implant surface treatments. Materials and Methods: Overall, 28 high-translucency monolithic zirconia (HTMZ) specimens were arranged into four groups based on Zr thickness: 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5 mm (n = 7 per thickness). Each group was tested using two resin cement colors (clear and opaque) in combination with six surface-treated Ti groups (n = 7), including untreated titanium (UT), anodization (AN), 50-µm alumina airborne-particle abrasion followed by AN (SBAN), AN followed by 50-µm alumina airborne-particle abrasion (ANSB), 9.5% hydrofluoric acid followed by AN (HFAN), and AN followed by 9.5% hydrofluoric acid (ANHF). This created a total of 48 experimental groups, including the use of composite resin (n = 7, shade A2D) for four control groups. All specimens were measured using a spectrophotometer and subsequently compared with composite resin (control) with the corresponding Zr thickness to establish color differences. A color difference of < 2.7 was considered clinically acceptable. The data obtained were statistically analyzed using ANOVA and post hoc test (P = .05). Results: Zr thickness, resin cement color, and type of Ti implant surface treatment significantly affected the observed color differences (P < .05). When using 2.5-mm HTMZ with clear resin cement on AN, UT, SBAN, HFAN, and ANSB, the mean color differences were below the clinically acceptable values, and the 95% CIs of color differences were below the clinically acceptable values for AN, UT, and SBAN groups. Conclusions: HTMZ with a minimum thickness of 2.5 mm and clear resin cement on AN, UT, and SBAN groups potentially result in acceptable color matching with 95% CIs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the influence of different whitening toothpastes on color change and alteration in enamel surface roughness and microhardness compared to a conventional toothpaste. Method and materials: Fifty bovine incisors were selected, cleaned, and stored before being divided into five groups: a conventional toothpaste group and three whitening toothpaste groups containing different abrasive agents: silica, hydrogen peroxide, and activated charcoal. Specimens underwent simulated brushing, staining with black tea solution, and subsequent analyses of color, surface roughness, and microhardness. Statistical analysis was performed using three-way ANOVA and Tukey post-hoc tests (P < .05). Results: The results showed that the color analysis revealed similar whitening potential among all toothpastes. They showed significant differences in surface roughness (P < .001) and microhardness (P < .001) after simulated brushing. While all toothpastes caused a decrease in microhardness, the charcoal-based toothpaste showed a significant increase in surface roughness compared to the initial condition. Conclusion: All toothpastes demonstrated whitening capability. Surface roughness changed after brushing with activated charcoal-based whitening toothpaste, but final roughness was similar across all groups. Purpose: To evaluate the stress distribution along a premolar's root dentin, its post, and its post-luting agent when materials with different elastic moduli are used to fabricate one-piece post-and-cores in two different designs. Materials and Methods: Two 3D virtual models (for cylindrical and conical post designs) of a mandibular premolar restored with one-piece post-and-core restorations were obtained using a software. A total of eight post-and-core materials were tested: polyetheretherketone (PEEK), polyetherketoneketone (PEKK), glass fiber-reinforced polyetheretherketone (GFR-PEEK), carbon fiber-reinforced polyetheretherketone (CFR-PEEK), gold-palladium alloy (Au-Pd), titanium (Ti), zirconia (Zi), and chromium-nickel (Cr-Ni). Maximum principals stress (MPS) in the post, post-luting agent, and root dentin were determined. A load of 150 N was applied to the buccal cusp in the linguo-labial direction at an angle of 45 degrees oblique to the longitudinal axis of the crown. Results: The highest MPS value in post structure was observed with Cr-Ni material for both post designs. Similarly, the highest MPS value in the post-luting agent was observed for Cr-Ni, the material with the highest elastic modulus. However, in the root dentin, the highest value was observed in PEEK, the material with the lowest elastic modulus. Conclusions: Post material and design influenced the stress concentration in the post, post-luting agent, and root dentin. The stress at the root dentin was slightly higher for polymeric materials. Purpose: The structural and compositional similarities between dentin and alveolar bone form the basis for utilizing dentin for bone regeneration. Various authors have recommended using treated mineralized, partially demineralized, or demineralized dentin grafts instead of xenografts because of their comparable clinical and radiographic results and lower costs. The current study therefore compared the effect of untreated mineralized dentin grafts (UMDGs) versus xenografts in vertical and horizontal augmentation around dental implants that were immediately placed in the mandibular anterior region. Materials and Methods: A total of 56 patients who required immediate dental implant placement in the mandibular anterior region were randomly allocated to group I (study), where ground dentin was washed with normal saline and placed around the dental implants, or group II (control), where a xenograft was used. The primary implant stability was measured at the time of implant placement. Secondary implant stability, plaque index (PI), bleeding index (BI), probing depth (PD), and keratinized mucosa width (KMW) were assessed at baseline (time of definitive abutment and provisional crown placement) and then at 3, 6, and 12 months. Pain and the number of analgesics consumed were assessed daily during the first postoperative week. Marginal bone loss (MBL) and radiodensity were assessed radiographically. Results: There were no significant differences between the groups in terms of postoperative pain, the number of analgesic tablets consumed, peri-implant mucositis, or peri-implantitis. Both groups showed comparable results for the PI, BI, and PD. Moreover, there was no statistical difference between the groups with regard to primary implant stability and secondary implant stability at baseline and 12 months. Group I showed significantly lower secondary implant stability after loading at 3 and 6 months and significantly greater bone loss and lower bone density before exposure. KMW and MBL after exposure were significantly higher in group I at all time points. Conclusions: Although UMDGs showed similar clinical results to xenografts, including primary and secondary implant stability, they had higher resorption rates than xenografts. Purpose: To investigate the influence of immediate dentin sealing (IDS) vs delayed dentin sealing (DDS) on the marginal gaps of machinable monolithic zirconia vs pressable lithium disilicate laminate veneers.Materials and Methods: A total of 40 maxillary lateral incisors were used and received butt-joint laminate veneer preparation. The samples were divided into two groups (n = 20 each) according to ceramic material: pressable lithium disilicate ceramic (PLD) was used in the first group, and machinable monolithic zirconia (MMZ) was used in the second. Each group was then divided into two subgroups according to the bonding protocol: IDS was employed in one, and DDS in the other (n = 10 each). The marginal gap widths were measured using digital microscopy and statistically analyzed.Results: The smallest marginal gaps were observed in MMZ-DDS (57.2 ± 8.4 μm), followed by PLD-DDS (62.4 ± 2.7 μm) and MMZ-IDS (63.5 ± 1.9 μm). The largest marginal gaps were observed in PLD-IDS (81.5 ± 6.3 μm). Two-way ANOVA revealed that the bonding technique (P < .001) and ceramic material (P < .001) both showed significant differences.Conclusions: MMZ produced better marginal accuracy than PLD. IDS seems to have a predisposition to significantly wider marginal gaps than DDS, but these gaps are within the clinically acceptable range. Purpose: To evaluate the effect of urethane methacrylate precursor (UMP) on the enzymatic resistance of demineralized dentin (DD) matrices. Materials and Methods: Experimental treatments containing 0 (control), 1, and 5 mmol/L UMP dissolved in an acetone (Ace) solution were formulated. Dentin matrix specimens were demineralized in vitro and immersed in the experimental treatments for 1 h. The treated specimens were then stored in 0.1 mg/mL collagenase solution for 24 h, after which their dry mass loss and hydroxyproline (HYP) release were assessed. The swelling ratios of specimens in each group were also evaluated. The interaction between UMP and the dentin matrix was observed using field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). Endogenous enzyme activity in dentin was evaluated using confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM). Results: Compared with the other treatment groups, treatment with 1 mM and 5 mM UMP-Ace significantly decreased the dry mass loss, HYP release and swelling ratio of the DD matrix (p < 0.05). FE-SEM and CLSM observations showed that treatment with UMP-Ace protected the structure of the dentin matrix and decreased porosity within the dentin-collagen network. Conclusion: Treatment with 1 mM and 5 mM UMP-Ace protects DD matrix against collagenase degradation and may be clinically useful for improving the durability of the hybrid layer. Purpose: To systematically review in-vitro studies that evaluated the influence of erbium laser pretreatment on dentin shear bond strength (SBS) and bond failure modes. Materials and Methods: Electronic databases (PubMed, Cochrane Central, Embase, and Web of Science) were searched. Only in-vitro studies involving erbium laser irradiation of the dentin surface and SBS testing of the bonded resin block were included. The three common modes of bond failure (1. adhesive, 2. cohesive, and 3. mixed) were observed and analyzed. The network meta-analysis (NMA) was performed by Stata 15.0 software, the risk of bias was evaluated, and the certainty of the evidence was assessed by the Confidence in Network Meta-analysis (CINeMA). Results: Forty studies with nine pretreatments (1. blank group: BL; 2. phosphoric acid etch-and-rinse: ER; 3. self-etch adhesive: SE; 4. Er:YAG laser: EL; 5. Er,Cr:YSGG laser: ECL; 6. ER+EL; 7. ER+ECL; 8. SE+EL; 9. SE+ECL) were included in this analysis. The NMA of SBS showed that ER+EL [SMD = 0.32, 95% CI (0.11, 0.98)] had the highest SBS next to ER, especially when using one of the 3M ESPE adhesives, followed by EL, ECL, SE and SE+EL. The Ivoclar Vivadent adhesives significantly increased the SBS of the ECL [SMD = 0.37, 95% CI (0.16,0.90)] and was higher than ER+EL [SMD = 0.25,95% CI (0.07,0.85)]. Finally, the surface under the cumulative ranking curve (SUCRA) value indicated that ER+EL (SUCRA = 71.0%) and EL (SUCRA = 62.9%) were the best treatments for enhancing dentin SBS besides ER. ER+EL (SUCRA = 85.3%), ER (SUCRA = 83.7%) and ER (SUCRA = 84.3%) had the highest probability of occurring in adhesive, cohesive and mixed failure modes, respectively. Conclusion: Er:YAG and Er,Cr:YSGG lasers improved dentin SBS compared to the blank group, especially when the acid etch-and-rinse pretreatment was combined with Er:YAG laser. Purpose: This study investigated and compared the bond strengths, microleakage, microgaps, and marginal adaptation of self-adhesive resin composites (SAC) to dentin with or without universal adhesives. Materials and Methods: Dentin surfaces of 75 molars were prepared for shear and microtensile bond strength testing (SBS and μTBS). Silicon molds were used to build up direct restorations using the following materials to form 5 groups: 1. Surefil One; 2. Prime&Bond active Universal Adhesive + Surefil One; 3. Vertise Flow; 4. OptiBond Universal + Vertise Flow; 5. Scotchbond Universal + Filtek Z500 (control group). Bonded specimens were thermocycled 10,000x before being tested either for SBS or μTBS using a universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 0.5mm/min. Direct mesial and distal class-II cavities were created on 100 sound premolars, with the gingival margin of distal cavities placed below CEJ and restored according to the five groups. After thermocycling, microleakage scores were assessed following immersion of restored premolars in 2% methylene blue dye for 24h, while marginal gaps and adaptation percentages were investigated on epoxy resin replicas under SEM at magnifications of 2000X and 200X, respectively. Results were statistically analyzed with parametric and non-parametric tests as applicable, with a level of significance set at a = 0.05. Results: Bond strengths, microleakage scores, microgaps, and percent marginal adaptation of Surefil One and Vertise Flow were significantly (p<0.001) inferior to the control group. Dentin preconditioning with universal adhesives significantly increased the study parameter outcomes of Surefil One and Vertise Flow, yet they were still significantly below the performance of the control group. Purpose: To compare the adhesion of a self-curing (Tokuyama Universal Bond, TUB) and a light-curing (Scotchbond Universal, SBU) universal adhesive to CAD/CAM materials, enamel, and dentin. This study also assessed differences in enamel adhesion between self-etch vs selective etching modes, as well as immediate and long-term adhesion to dentin for both adhesives. Materials and Methods: Shear bond strength (SBS) testing was used to assess adhesion to enamel, dentin, Lava Ultimate (LU), Vita Enamic (VE), IPS e.max CAD (LD), IPS e.max ZirCAD (3Y-Zir), and Lava Esthetic (5Y-Zir) (n = 10). Moreover, bonding to enamel in self-etch and selective etching modes (n = 10) as well as immediate and aged resin-dentin bond strength (24 h after bonding, after 100,000 thermal cycles [TC] and long-term storage) was evaluated using the microtensile bondstrength test (n = 30). Failure mode was also determined for the bonding to dentin. Statistical analyses consisted of oneway and two-way ANOVA with appropriate post-hoc Tukey-Kramer or two-sample t-tests, as well as the chi-squared or Fisher's exact test (a = 0.05). Results: TUB and SBU universal adhesives presented similar bonding to LU, VE, 3Y-Zir, and 5Y-Zir. However, SBS for TUB was superior to SBU when bonding to lithium-disilicate glass-ceramic (IPS e.max CAD). SBU showed better adhesion to dentin and enamel when used in the self-etch mode, while TUB promoted strong bond strength to enamel in the selective etching mode. TUB after TC was the only aging condition that yielded a significant reduction in resin-dentin bond strength. Conclusion: In-vitro adhesion performance of the self-curing and light-curing universal adhesives varies depending on the dental substrate or CAD/CAM restorative material used for bonding. This study investigated the effect of erbium, chromium: yttrium-scandium-gallium-garnet (Er,Cr:YSGG) laser conditioning on dentin bond strength and nanoleakage of different universal and self-etch adhesives. A total of 84 intact human third molar teeth were cut at the dentin level, and half of them were laser conditioned. The specimens were divided into three groups; two different universal resins and one self-etch adhesive resin were applied and composite resin restorations were created. For the microtensile bond strength (pTBS) test, 20 microspecimens were prepared from the laser and control group of each adhesive (n = 20) and tested with a universal device. For nanoleakage observation, 10 specimens were prepared from each group (n = 10) and stored in silver nitrate solution, and then the amount of nanoleakage was analyzed by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). Data were analyzed with two-way ANOVA, Tukey's honestly significant difference, and chi-square tests. The mean dentin bond strength of all adhesives in the laser groups was found to be statistically significantly lower than those of the control groups (P < .05). No difference was found between the mean bond strength of the adhesives in the laser and control groups (P > .05). Higher nanoleakage was observed in all adhesives in the laser groups compared to the control groups (P < .05). The pulp is a unique tissue within each tooth that is susceptible to painful inflammation, known as pulpitis, triggered by microbial invasion from carious lesions or trauma that affect many individuals. The host response involves complex immunological processes for pathogen defense and dentin apposition at the site of infection. The interplay of signaling between the immune and non-immune cells via cytokines, chemokines, neuropeptides, proteases, and reactive nitrogen and oxygen species leads to tissue reactions and structural changes in the pulp that escalate beyond a certain threshold to irreversible tissue damage. If left untreated, the inflammation, which is initially localized, can progress to pulpal necrosis, requiring root canal treatment and adversely affecting the prognosis of the tooth. To preserve pulp vitality and dental health, a deeper understanding of the molecular and cellular mechanisms of pulpitis is imperative. In particular, elucidating the links between signaling pathways, clinical symptoms, and spatiotemporal spread is essential to develop novel therapeutic strategies and push the boundaries of vital pulp therapy. ABSTRACT Objective Clinical Considerations Conclusion Patients who exhibit severe loss of tooth structure are challenging to rehabilitate. Conventional treatment of these patients may require adjunctive procedures of surgical crown lengthening, elective endodontic therapy and placement of posts and cores to retain full coverage crowns as part of a full mouth rehabilitation. Minimally invasive approaches to treatment of these patients provides opportunity to conserve tooth structure and to reduce adjunctive procedures by using an advanced adhesive approach to retain all ceramic partial coverage restorations as part of a full mouth rehabilitation.The use of an advanced adhesive approach to perform a full mouth reconstruction restoring occlusal vertical dimension (OVD) is described. This approach emphasizes preserving healthy tooth structure, maximizing restoration adhesion to enamel and dentin, maintaining pulpal vitality and minimizing adjunctive dental procedures. The preparation design focuses on being defect‐oriented to remove only diseased or undermined tooth structure. The all ceramic restorations are additive, where indicated, to further aid in preserving tooth structure. An advanced adhesive approach using an immediate dentin seal and resin coating over exposed dentin and composite resin cement under rubber dam isolation is used to lute the restorations. The restorations are fabricated using micro‐layered lithium disilicate ceramic to maximize the esthetic appearance of the rehabilitation where needed.An advanced adhesive approach to full mouth rehabilitation should be considered as a treatment option for patients exhibiting tooth surface loss as an alternative to conventional full coverage restorations when clinical parameters allow. The objective of this study was to explore the effect of different surface treatments and bonding types on elemental composition and bond strength of dentin. Under water cooling, 1.5 mm of tooth structure containing just dentin was cut from 39 extracted human molars. Dentin surfaces were untreated (control) or treated by erbium: yttrium aluminum garnet or femtosecond laser (n = 13, each). One sample from each group underwent scanning electron microscopy. Then, dentin surfaces were bonded by Clearfil SE Bond or Clearfil SE Protect (n = 6, each). Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy was performed both after surface treatment and bonding application. The dual-polymerized resin cement was applied to dentin surfaces with a special teflon mold (diameter:3 mm × height:3 mm). After polymerization of the resin cement, shear force was applied at the resin cement-dentin interface. Elemental composition value (weight%) of dentin after surface treatment was analyzed by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and the difference value in pre and post-bonding elemental composition by two-way ANOVA. Paired t-tests were executed to compare the weight% values of each element before and after each bonding application. Bond strength was analyzed by two-way ANOVA. The post-hoc test was Tukey's honest significant difference test. Both laser treatments increased the mineral content of dentin, compared to the controls (P<0.05). Application of bonding agents decreased the mineral content of dentin compared to the surface treated dentin. Bond strength was unaffected by either surface treatment or bonding type (P>0.05). ABSTRACT Objectives Overview Conclusions Clinical Implications To review the factors that impact the accuracy of intraoral scanners (IOSs) when fabricating tooth‐supported restorations.Factors can have a different impact on IOS accuracy depending on the scanning purpose. If the goal is to fabricate tooth‐supported restorations, it is essential to review the following operator‐related factors: IOS technology and system, scan extension and starting quadrant, scanning pattern, scanning distance, and rescanning methods. Additionally, it is critical to interpret the following patient‐related factors differently: edentulous spaces, presence of existing restorations on adjacent teeth, and characteristics of the tooth preparation (build‐up material, geometry, total occlusal convergence [TOC], finish line location, and surface finishing), and interdental spaces (between tooth preparations or between preparation and the adjacent tooth).For crown or short‐span fixed dental prostheses, a reduced scan extension is recommended. For complete‐arch scans, it is advisable to start the scan in the same quadrant as the preparation. If the IOS permits locking the scan, rescanning may be indicated. Restorations on tooth preparations and adjacent teeth reduce accuracy. The simpler the geometry and the larger the TOC, the higher the IOS accuracy. Intracrevicular finish lines result in lower accuracy than equigingival or supragingival positions. Air‐particle procedures showed better accuracy than coarse and fine grit and immediate dentin sealing. The greater the space between a preparation and the adjacent tooth, the better the accuracy.Dental professionals must understand and handle the factors that impact the scanning accuracy of intraoral scanners differently depending on the purpose of the scan. This study evaluated the antibiofilm efficacy of a calcium silicate-based intracanal medicament (Bio-C Temp) against Fusobacterium nucleatum (F. nucleatum). Dentin slices (n = 88) were inoculated with F. nucleatum biofilms and divided into experimental groups (n = 24 each) treated with Bio-C Temp, triple antibiotic paste (TAP), or Ca(OH)2 for 1 or 2 weeks. Untreated dentin slices exposed to saline served as a positive control, while sterile dentin slices incubated anaerobically served as a negative control. Bacterial viability was assessed using confocal laser scanning microscopy after staining with LIVE/DEAD®BacLight™ dye. Samples treated with TAP demonstrated the highest percentage of dead bacteria (95%). The antibiofilm effect of TAP and Bio-C Temp significantly increased from Week 1 to Week 2. At Week 2, samples treated with Bio-C Temp showed a significantly higher percentage of dead bacteria (75.25%) than those treated with Ca(OH)2 (58.65%). TAP showed superior efficacy against F. nucleatum biofilms. After an application time of 2 weeks, the antibiofilm efficacy of Bio-C Temp was superior to that of Ca(OH)2. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study employed mouse models of type 1 (T1D) and type 2 (T2D) diabetes to characterize the changes in tooth dentin composition and its mechanical properties. Thirty-two mice were used in this study and divided into T1D, T2D and corresponding control groups. Mandibles were extracted 12 weeks after the onset of diabetes, and dentin from the first molars was evaluated in varying regions of the root. The composition was assessed using Raman Spectroscopy. Nanoindentation and Vickers indentation were employed to study the mechanical properties of the tissue. Statistical significance was evaluated by two-way analysis of variance with respect to the diabetic group and region of the tooth (p ≤ 0.05). In the T2D model, the mineral-to-collagen ratio, hardness, and storage modulus of the intertubular dentin were significantly reduced compared to tissue from the controls, especially in the cervical regions of the tooth. The reduction in the mineral-to-collagen ratio was also observed in the T1D model, but changes in nanomechanical properties were not evident. However, the bulk hardness of the teeth in the T1D model was lower than in the littermate controls. Optical microscopy revealed significant wear of the tooth crowns in both models of diabetes, which appear to result from parafunctional activities. This study suggests that both type 1 and type 2 models of diabetes are associated with detrimental changes in dentin. Introduction: Achieving strong bond strength of adhesive systems to deep dentin is challenging. Various methods to improve bond strength to deep dentin have been investigated. Chlorhexidine (CHX) enhances the longevity of the bond between adhesives and dentin by inhibiting the collagenolytic activity of Matrix Metalloproteinases (MMPs). Benincasa hispida is a natural plant-based functional food containing minerals and vitamins that help prevent osteoporosis and improve bone health. Aim: To evaluate the Microshear Bond Strength (MSBS) of a 10-methacryloyloxydecyl-dihydrogen Phosphate-based (10-MDP) universal adhesive system to coronal dentin with different dentin surface pretreatments, specifically CHX and Benincasa hispida. Materials and Methods: An in-vitro pilot study was conducted at the Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Vishnu Dental College, Bhimavaram, Andhra Pradesh, India, from May 2023 to November 2023. Dentin discs (42) were prepared from human mandibular first molars. A standard etch-and-rinse protocol was performed on the discs. The specimens were assigned to different dentin pretreatments: Group-I (no pretreatment), Group-II (CHX) and Group-III (Benincasa hispida). CHX and Benincasa hispida were applied using micro applicator tips. A dentin bonding agent containing 10-MDP (DBA) was applied, photopolymerised and a composite restoration was fabricated. The MSBS to dentin was evaluated using a universal testing machine. The failure patterns were analysed using a stereomicroscope at 10x magnification. One-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's Honestly Significant Difference (HSD) HSD tests were used for statistical analysis, with a significance level set at α=0.05. Results: The mean MSBS values were 24.2732±5.41329 MPa for Group-III, 14.3848±4.23492 MPa for Group-II and 6.9724±3.15837 MPa for Group-I. Pretreatment of dentin with B. hispida resulted in significantly higher MSBS values compared to the other two groups (p<0.001*). Conclusion: Pretreatment with B. hispida significantly improved MSBS. The optimal repair of rigid mineralized tissues, such as bone, in cases of fracture, surgical resection, or prosthetic placement, is a complex process often necessitating the use of bone graft materials. Autogenous bone from the patient is generally the gold standard in terms of outcomes but also has disadvantages, which have resulted in extensive research in the field of tissue engineering to develop better and more convenient alternatives. In the dental field, several initiatives have demonstrated that the dentin material derived from extracted teeth produces excellent results in terms of repairing bone defects and supporting dental implants. Dentin is acellular and thus, in contrast to autogenous bone, cannot provide osteoblasts or other cellular elements to the grafted region, but it does contain growth and differentiation factors, and has other properties that make it an impressive material for bone repair. In this review, the beneficial properties of dentin and the ways it interacts with the host bone are described in the context of bone graft materials. Autogenous tooth material has limitations, particularly in terms of the need for tooth extraction and the limited amount available, which currently restrict its use to particular dental procedures. The development of a xenograft dentin-derived material, which retains the properties of autogenous dentin, is described. Objective: Self-etching dental adhesives bond with dentin through chemical reactions with calcium. This study assessed bond strength (BS) using microtensile (µTBS) and microshear (µSBS) tests on sound and post-radiotherapy dentin, with dental adhesives containing different functional monomers. Methods: Sound dentin (SD) and post-radiotherapy irradiated dentin (ID) were tested with two adhesive systems: Clearfil SE Bond (SE, 10-MDP-based) and FL Bond II (FL, containing carboxylic and phosphonic monomers with S-PRG bioactive particles). The tests occurred initially (24 h) and six months later; fracture mode was also analyzed (40x). Ninety-six human molars were randomly assigned (n = 12), and half were irradiated with a 70 Gy radiation dose. For µTBS test, teeth were bonded, restored and sectioned them into beams (0.64 mm2). The µSBS test used filled transparent cylindrical matrices with resin composite and light-cured them after dental adhesive applications. Three-way ANOVA and Tukey’s test (p < 0.05) analyzed the data. Results: µTBS showed a significant substrate x adhesive interaction (p < 0.001), while µSBS was significant for all factors (p = 0.006). SE and FL performed better on SD and ID, respectively, in the µTBS test. As for µSBS, SE showed higher values on ID (p < 0.05). Lower BS values occurred for SD-FL and ID-SE after six months. Conclusion: Dental adhesive performance varied based on substrate type and test method. FL was more stable for ID in µTBS, while SE excelled in µSBS. Clinical relevance: As post-radiotherapy irradiated dentin becomes more vulnerable, self-etching systems based on functional monomer and bioactive ingredients may exhibit appropriate bonding to this altered substrate. Objectives: To investigate the preventive and discoloring effects of a single and two weekly applications of 38% silver diamine fluoride (SDF) against dentin erosion. Materials and methods: 180 dentin blocks were divided into four groups. Group 1 (SDF2) received two weekly applications of 38% SDF. Group 2 (SDF1) received a single application of 38% SDF. Group 3 (SNF) received a daily application of stannous chloride/amine fluoride/sodium fluoride (standard of care for dental erosion). Group 4 (DW) received a daily application of deionized water. The treated blocks were subjected to a 14-day erosive challenge. Crystal characteristics, elemental composition, surface morphology, percentage of surface microhardness loss (%SMHL), surface loss, and color change (ΔE) were investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive spectrometry (EDS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), hardness testing, profilometry, and digital spectrophotometry, respectively. Results: XRD and EDS showed dentin surfaces had silver compounds in SDF2 and SDF1, and stannous chloride in SNF. SEM revealed less dentin demineralization with tubular occlusion in SDF2, SDF1, and SNF, but severe demineralization in DW. The %SMHL of SDF2, SDF1, SNF, and DW were 10.8 ± 2.1, 15.7 ± 2.1, 17.9 ± 2.1, and 28.7 ± 2.0 (SDF2 < SDF1 < SNF < DW, p < 0.05). Surface loss (µm) of SDF2, SDF1, SNF, and DW were 5.0 ± 0.6, 6.0 ± 0.6, 6.0 ± 0.7, and 9.0 ± 0.5 (SDF2 < SDF1 = SNF < DW, p < 0.001). ΔE of SDF2, SDF1, SNF, and DW were 26.0 ± 3.4, 12.1 ± 3.8, 6.9 ± 3.5, and 3.9 ± 3.6 (SDF2 > SDF1 > SNF = DW, p < 0.001). Conclusion: 38% SDF with two weekly applications provided better preventive effects against dentin erosion, but it might discolor dentin. Background/Aim: Children with special healthcare needs (CSHCN) often face oral health challenges. This retrospective cross‐sectional study at a university hospital aimed to determine CSHCN's medical spectrum, dental treatment needs, and mode of treatment: general anesthesia (GA) or outpatient dental care (ODC). Design: Data from the Department of Conservative Dentistry, Heidelberg University Hospital, 2012–2022, were reviewed, considering age, gender, International Classification of Diseases‐10 diagnoses, caries experience (dmft/DMFT), restorative parameters, and treatment under GA/ODC. For patients under GA, their American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) classification was considered. Descriptive statistics, Kruskal–Wallis test, Mann–Whitney U‐test and logistic regression were utilized. Results: Of 669 patients, congenital and chromosomal malformations (34.7%), diseases of the nervous system (19.1%), and mental and behavioral disorders (16.0%) were mainly diagnosed. Dentin caries prevalence was high at 79.1%, with treatments performed mainly under GA (51.4%). The odds of receiving treatment under GA decreased with patient age and increased with higher dmft/DMFT scores. Most under GA were classified as ASA 3 (51.7%), indicating high anesthesia risks. Conclusion: Children with special healthcare needs often have diseases that can lead to higher challenges related to cooperation. The high prevalence of dentin caries underscores the substantial need for dental treatments, which were consequently often performed under GA, despite the associated risks. Background: One of the primary concerns in the paediatric emergencies is traumatic dental injuries. Objective: This study aimed to create trauma in primary teeth and reveal its effects finite element analysis. Design: Three‐dimensional models were created using cone‐beam computed tomography images, representing a maxillary primary central incisor. An impact force moving at a speed of 10 m/s was simulated on the labial tooth surface in two directions: buccal and incisal. Results: The stress and deformation experienced in the adjacent tooth due to the primary tooth were higher than those generated in the permanent tooth. Forces applied in the incisal direction resulted in higher levels of stress and deformation in the permanent tooth germ. The difference between the stress and deformation values in primary teeth in the forces applied in the buccal and incisal directions is 21% and 75%, respectively; in the permanent tooth germ, this difference was 233% and 100%, respectively. Conclusions: Based on the findings of this study, it is crucial to thoroughly evaluate not only the affected primary tooth but also the adjacent teeth and the permanent tooth germ in traumatic dental injuries. Background: Dentin hypersensitivity (DH) is a common oral condition that is associated with severe dental pain. Pain relief is a key focus of the treatment of DH. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the blocking and antacid effects of gallic acid (GA) combined with sodium fluoride (NaF) on dentinal tubules in vitro. Methods: Ninety dentin discs from human third molars were treated with 6% citric acid for 2 min. Then, the surface morphologies of ten dentin discs were observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The remaining samples were randomly divided into four groups: the NaF group, which was treated with 1000 ppm NaF; the GA group, which was treated with 4000 ppm GA; the GA + NaF group, which was treated with 1000 ppm NaF + 4000 ppm GA; and the blank group, which was treated with deionized water. The dentin permeability of each sample was measured with a water-filled system before processing and after 7 days of treatment. Dentin morphology and surface deposits were observed by SEM. Then, samples from the NaF, GA + NaF and blank groups were subjected to an acid challenge by incubation with 0.02% citric acid for 2 min. SEM and a water-filled system were used to evaluate the blocking and antacid effects of NaF and GA + NaF. Results: 1. NaF and GA + NaF significantly decreased dentin permeability. The effect of the GA + NaF treatment was more significant. After acid challenge, both groups still exhibited decreased dentin permeability compared with the initial assessment. 2. Compared with the NaF group, the GA + NaF group had more mineral deposits on the dentin surface and dentin tubules. After acid challenge, the deposits in the GA + NaF group were still clearly visible. Conclusion: The combined effect of GA and NaF on reducing dentin permeability by blocking open dentin tubules is better than that of NaF alone. Background: Calcium silicate-based sealer has favorable properties for root canal filling, including hydroxyapatite formation during the setting process. However, this process can cause difficulty during post space preparation when the sealer is set. Additionally, the remaining sealer could interfere with the bond strength of fiber post to root canal dentin. The different adhesive strategies and fiber post cementation time may affect the bond strength of the fiber post. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of etching modes of Scotchbond™ Universal Plus adhesive and post cementation time on the push-out bond strength of a fiber post cemented in root canals obturated with calcium silicate-based sealer. Methods: Fifty-four teeth were randomly allocated to 6 groups (n = 9) based on etching modes: self-etch (SE) or etch-and-rinse (ER); post space preparation and cementation time: immediate (Im) or 7-day delayed (De): Im-Im, Im-De, and De-De. The root canals were obturated with calcium silicate-based sealer and the post space preparation was performed. The fiber post was cemented using RelyX™ Universal resin cement according to each group's design. For the push-out bond strength test, 1-mm slices of the coronal, middle, and apical regions were tested using a universal testing machine. The failure mode analysis was determined using a stereomicroscope. The data was analyzed with three-way analysis of variance. Results: No negative effects of etching modes, post space preparation or cementation time on push-out bond strength were detected (p > 0.05). Additionally, the root canal region also did not significantly affect the bond strength (p > 0.05). Conclusion: No significant differences were observed between the etching modes, post space preparation and cementation time and among root canal regions. ABSTRACT Objective Material and Methods Results Conclusions The present trial evaluated the first‐time application of autogenous demineralized dentin graft with injectable platelet‐rich fibrin (ADDG + i‐PRF) versus autogenous demineralized dentin graft (ADDG), in alveolar ridge preservation (ARP) in the maxillary aesthetic zone.Twenty‐two maxillary (n = 22) non‐molar teeth indicated for extraction were randomized into two groups (n = 11/group). Extracted teeth were prepared into ADDG, implanted into extraction sockets with or without i‐PRF amalgamation and covered by collagen sponge. Cone‐beam computed tomography scans at baseline and 6 months were compared to assess ridge‐dimensional changes. Keratinized tissue width, patient satisfaction, pain score and chair time were recorded. In the course of dental implant placements at 6 months, bone core biopsies of engrafted sites were obtained and analysed histomorphometrically.Reduction in ridge width was 1.71 ± 1.08 and 1.8 ± 1.35 mm, while reduction in ridge height was 1.11 ± 0.76 and 1.8 ± 0.96 mm for ADDG + i‐PRF and ADDG, respectively (p > 0.05). Significant differences in keratinized tissue width reduction were notable between ADDG + i‐PRF and ADDG (0.12 ± 0.34 and 0.58 ± 0.34 mm respectively; p = 0.008). Postoperative pain scores were significantly lower in ADDG + i‐PRF (p = 0.012). All patients in the two groups were satisfied with no differences in chair time (p > 0.05). No differences in total percentage area of newly formed bone, soft tissue or graft particles were observed between the groups (p > 0.05).ADDG alone or in combination with i‐PRF yields similar results regarding ARP clinically, quality of the formed osseous tissues, as well as patients' satisfaction. Background: Radiotherapy is a treatment modality used for head and neck cancer patients. It has a negative influence on bonding strength of adhesives. Little information is available about the effect of radiotherapy on bonding strength of adhesives in primary teeth. Therefore, this in vitro study aimed to detect the best adhesive system and ideal time to apply restorations in primary irradiated teeth regarding adhesive shear bond strength. Methods: Dentin samples from primary teeth were randomly assigned to four groups based on restoration application time and radiation exposure, (G1: control, G2: preradiation, G3: 24 h postradiation, and G4: 6 months postradiation) with 20 samples per group. These groups were further divided into 2 subgroups according to the adhesive system used, with 10 samples per subgroup. (1) 3M™ Single Bond Universal Adhesive (SB), (2) 3M AdperSingle Bond 2 (AS). Samples were exposed to gamma radiation from a cobalt-60 machine. One shot of 60 Gy of radiation was delivered. Then samples were subjected to a shear bond strength test. The load was applied until failure and the maximum load was recorded. Numerical data are presented as mean and standard deviation values, then distributed according to Shapiro–Wilk test or Levene's test and analyzed via two-way ANOVA. The significance level was set at p < 0.05 for all tests. Statistical analysis was performed with R statistical analysis software version 4.4.1 for Windows (Team RC, R: A language and environment for statistical computing. R foundation for statistical computing, 2023). Results: Compared with the AS subgroup, the SB subgroup presented significantly greater values (p < 0.001). For SB, there was no significant difference among the G1 and G4 groups (p > 0.001). However, there was a significant difference between G1, G2, and G3 (p < 0.001, P = 0.025, P = 0.265 ns respectively), and G3 presented the lowest values. For AS, there was no significant difference between groups G1 and G4 (p = < 0.001). Compared with the other groups, G3 presented a significant difference (p = 0.265 ns) and the lowest results. Conclusion: Restorations performed 24 h after radiation had lower bond strength than those performed six months after radiation. Water treeing and water droplets are observed within adhesive layers and on the hybridized surface after bonding sound dentin using single‐bottle etch‐and‐rinse adhesives, indicating permeability of the hybrid layer to water. The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of dentin sealing by adhesives containing propolis by quantifying the area of water transudation from dentinal tubules after dentin hybridization. Brazilian red propolis was added to experimental adhesive and Single Bond (3M/ESPE) adhesive; experimental adhesive and Single Bond without propolis were used as controls. Under simulated pulp pressure, two layers of adhesive were applied to etched human dentin discs. Three minutes after light‐curing, the hybridized dentin surface was replicated, and epoxy resin replicas were created to obtain scanning electron microscope images. Data were evaluated using ANOVA and Tukey's test. Single Bond containing propolis significantly decreased water permeation through the hybrid layer compared with the control group. Three minutes after polymerization, the experimental adhesive without propolis had formed a permeable hybrid layer. The addition of Brazilian red propolis significantly reduced surface water on hybridized dentin in a concentration‐dependent manner. To reduce dental caries, the optimal fluoride concentration of public water supplies in the United States is 0.7 ppm. However, excessive systemic fluoride consumption can lead to dental/enamel fluorosis. Numerous studies have explored the effects of fluoride on enamel and enamel‐forming cells. However, research on systemic fluoride's impact on dentine is limited, particularly the effect of fluoride on the structure of the dentine–pulp complex. Therefore, this study aimed to identify how excessive fluoride affects dentine microstructure using an experimental mouse model.C57BL6/J male mice (6–9 weeks old) were randomized into four groups (Fluoride at 0, 50, 100, or 125 ppm in drinking water) (n = 4/group). Mice were provided water ad libitum for 6 weeks along with fluoride‐free food. Thereafter, mandibular incisors were analysed. Enamel phenotypes were evaluated using light microscopy and quantitative light‐induced fluorescence (QLF) to measure fluorosis levels. Dentine morphology was evaluated using micro‐CT, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), SEM–EDX (energy‐dispersive X‐ray), microhardness test and histological imaging. Data were analysed using one‐way ANOVA with Dunnett's multiple comparisons as a post hoc test and the Kruskal–Wallis test with Dunn's multiple comparisons post hoc test (p < .05).Mice treated with fluoride at 50–125 ppm developed enamel hypoplasia in their erupting incisors and micro‐CT imaging revealed that fluoride 125 ppm caused external resorption of the growing incisor. Dentine mineral density, dentine volume decreased compared with the 0 ppm control, while pulp volume increased compared with the 0 ppm control group. SEM showed wider predentine layer and abnormalities in calcified matrix vesicles derived from odontoblasts in fluoride 100 and 125 ppm groups. Vickers microhardness of dentine significantly decreased in the high‐dose group. Fluoride‐induced dentine hypoplasia in a dose‐dependent manner. Histological evaluation showed excessive fluoride 125 ppm induced micro abscess formation and inflammatory cell infiltration. Fluoride induced dentine dysplasia with a dentine microstructure resembling hypophosphatasia.High doses of systemic fluoride can cause dentine dysplasia. Background: An ideal aesthetic restorative material should be attached to the tooth tissues by adhesion, have a smooth surface as possible, should not cause toxic reactions in the pulp and discoloration and microleakage. This study aims at comparatively assess the cytotoxicity of current adhesive systems on human dental pulp cells. Materials and methods: The adequate density of human pulp cells was observed from the ready cell line. The passaging was performed and the 3rd passage cells were selected. Adhesive systems and MTA were used on the cultures. Trypan blue staining was conducted on the cells at the 1st, 2nd, 3rd days and a count of live and dead cells using a light microscope. The dead cells whose membrane integrity was impaired by staining with trypan blue and the viability rate was determined using live and dead cell numbers. Data analysis was performed using IBM SPSS Statistics 22. Results: A significant difference in vialibity rates between adhesive systems was observed on the first day. No significant statistical differences were observed on the 2nd and 3rd days (p < 0.05). Background: To evaluate the comprehensive effect of translucency, thickness, cement shades, and background color on the masking ability of resin-matrix ceramic veneer restorations. Methods: Resin-matrix ceramic specimens with 2 translucencies (LT, HT) and 3 thicknesses (0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 mm) were made of Upcera Hyramic (A2 shade). Cement specimens were made of Variolink N in 4 shades (yellow, white, transparent, and bleach XL). Five background specimens were made of IPS Natural Die Material in 5 shades (ND1, ND2, ND3, ND4, and ND5). Color coordinates of 120 subgroups (n = 5) of combined specimens composed of different ceramic, cement, and background specimens were obtained using a spectroradiometer. Color difference (ΔE00) compared with a 4-mm thick specimen of LT and HT ceramics was calculated and four-way ANOVA was used for statistical analysis (α = 0.05). Results: Translucency, thickness, cement shade, background color, and their interaction had significant effects on ΔE00 (p < 0.001). ΔE00 values of HT groups were always higher than that of LT groups and were greater than 1.8 against all background colors. ΔE00 values of LT groups could be achieved to be less than 1.8 with appropriate thickness and cement shade. ΔE00 value decreased with increasing ceramic thickness. The effect of cement shade on ΔE00 had no obvious regularity, but ΔE00 values of bleach XL cement shade group were always lower than other cement shade groups under ND3 and ND5 background color. Conclusions: The masking ability of CAD-CAM resin-matrix ceramics can be simultaneously affected by translucency, thickness, cement shade, and background color. Resin-matrix ceramics with low translucency has a better masking ability than that with high translucency. The masking ability of CAD-CAM resin-matrix ceramics increase with increasing thickness. Background: This study aims to evaluate the microtensile bond strength (µTBS) of different resin composite restorations bonded to mid-coronal dentin and proximal root dentin using light-cured, chemical-cured, and dual-cured adhesives immediately and after aging. Nanoleakage and degree of cure were also assessed. Methods: Eighty-four molars were divided into mid-coronal dentin and proximal root dentin. Each group was further subdivided into three subgroups based on the restorative systems used, which involved the utilization of light-cured, chemical-cured, and dual-cured adhesives. Half of the specimens underwent µTBS testing after 24 h, while the other half after aging. Representative specimens were analyzed for nanoleakage. The degree of cure of the tested adhesive systems was also assessed. Results: Aging showed a significant negative effect on µTBS results and led to increased nanoleakage (p < 0.001). Furthermore, in all subgroups, the µTBS values of proximal root dentin were lower compared to mid-coronal dentin, except in the aged subgroup for the system utilizing the dual-cured adhesive. The restorative systems with chemical and dual-cured adhesives demonstrated comparable bonding properties. However, the system with the light-cured adhesive exhibited the worst bonding properties after aging when bonded to proximal root dentin and cured at a large distance (p < 0.05). Conclusions: All tested restorative systems were negatively affected by aging, and the regional dentin had variable effects on the bonding properties. Introduction: With the advent of time, the removal of caries has shifted from hand instruments to rotary instruments. A disadvantage of conventional burs is that they non selectively lead to over-preparation. A new polymer bur can be substituted to eliminate these undesirable effects. Aim: To compare and evaluate the efficacy of smart burs and conventional burs in removing infected dentine while preserving affected dentin in carious lesions in primary teeth. Materials and Methods: This was a double-blinded randomised controlled trial conducted in the Department of Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry at Swargiya Dadasaheb Kalmegh Smruti Dental College and Hospital, Nagpur, Maharashtra, India over a period of three months, from August 2023 to October 2023. A total of 40 children aged 6-12 years were selected and evaluated for caries removal efficacy using visual and tactile criteria, which were further confirmed by dye application and numerically scored. Group 1 included 20 children who underwent caries excavation with smart burs, while Group 2 included 20 children who underwent the procedure with diamond points. Statistical analysis was conducted using descriptive and inferential statistics, specifically the Chi-square test. Results: A total of 40 children aged 6-12 years were divided into two groups: Group 1 comprised 11 boys and 9 girls, whereas Group 2 included 10 boys and 10 girls. Of these, 12 cases (60%) showed complete caries removal after the first application of dye, regardless of which burs was used. However, 4 cases (20%) showed some residual caries when using smart burs, while 6 cases (30%) exhibited residual caries with diamond points at the base of the cavity preparation. Additionally, there were 4 cases (20%) with caries present at the base and/or in one wall of the cavity preparation when using smart burs, compared to 2 cases (10%) with conventional burs. Nonetheless, there was no statistically significant difference between the smart burs and the conventional diamond points regarding caries removal. Conclusion: It can be concluded that smart burs are equally effective in removing soft caries compared to conventional methods. Although the results were statistically insignificant, polymer burs were found to be more convenient and can be considered a viable alternative to conventional caries removal techniques. Introduction: Third molar extraction is a common surgical procedure that can have unintended consequences, such as periodontal disease that results in bone loss on the distal part of the second molar. By halting the atrophy of the alveolar ridge, socket and ridge preservation procedures enable restorations that are both functional and aesthetically acceptable. Maintaining the volume of the alveolar socket after tooth extraction is the primary objective of alveolar management, as it prevents substantial resorption and facilitates socket repair. Numerous methods have been reported on socket healing following tooth extractions. Grafting materials may promote healing of the post-extraction socket in three separate ways: osteogenesis, osteoinduction and osteoconduction. Need of the study: This study is necessary because managing bony defects after the extraction of impacted mandibular third molars is critically dependent on successful interventions. Third molars that are impacted often need to be surgically removed, resulting in bony defects that require proper regeneration for the best possible outcome after surgery. An important consideration in this process is the selection of grafting materials. It is imperative to comprehend the relative effectiveness of dentine graft and Platelet-rich Fibrin (PRF) to assist clinicians in deciding the best treatment option. Both PRF and dentine graft have shown promise in fostering bone regeneration; however, to develop evidence-based guidelines for clinical practice, a direct comparison using a rigorous split-mouth study is essential. Aim: To compare and evaluate outcomes of dentine graft against PRF in postoperative impacted mandibular third molar bony defects. Materials and Methods: A prospective randomised split-mouth study will be conducted in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Sharad Pawar Dental College, DMIHER, Sawangi, Wardha, Maharastra, India from April 2023 to January 2025. After the extraction of the 3rd molar, the patient will be instructed to bite on a sterile swab while waiting for the biomaterials to be ready. Following the examination of the extraction socket, the particulate dentine graft and liquid PRF preparation will be made and then placed in the extraction socket. The patient will then be instructed to use chlorhexidine mouth rinse (0.2%) twice a day in place of mechanical plaque management in the treated region for one week, as part of the postoperative regimen. Postoperative pain, wound healing, bone regeneration, and complications, if any will be assessed at a specified interval. Determining a substance's refractive index (RI) is of great importance in a wide variety of disciplines, such as chemistry, biomedicine, engineering, and optics, to name just a few. This work utilizes critical-angle reflectometry to measure the refractive index of dentin, a biological tissue characterized by its high RI and complex structure. We fabricated a hollow semicircular prism and filled it with bromonaphthalene (1-B), allowing us to measure RIs up to 1.65. We used 5 tooth samples with exposed dentin and a laser diode beam (λ = 650 nm) incident on interface 1-B/Dentine; the reflectance curve was measured from 60° to 75°. The critical angle is determined, and dentin RI is calculated. This article comprehensively reviews the performance of simplified direct restorative materials that have the potential to be an alternative to amalgam. Following an understanding of the material structures and clinical performances, this review provides an analysis of the bonding mechanisms and influential factors on the bond strength. These factors include substrate-related variations, involving primary vs. permanent dentin, sound- vs. caries-affected/demineralized dentin comparisons and surface-related factors and pretreatments. Special attention is given to the factors changing the substrate surface, such as different contaminants, remedy methods after contamination and different conditioning methods related to the materials. Variations in sample preparation and bond strength test parameters are also evaluated for the analysis of the outcomes. This review aims to provide an overview of the factors involved in the application procedure of direct restorations together with in vitro testing variations to guide the selection of suitable materials by understanding strengths and shortcomings. Identifying the boundary between the tooth and the resin-based composite (RBC) is difficult when replacing restorations. Ultraviolet (UV) light has been reported to assist the viewer by causing the RBC to fluoresce. Using a laboratory-grade fiberoptic spectrometer, 46 RBCs were exposed to UV light from the Woodpecker O-Star curing light. The opalescence and fluorescence were measured relative to a human tooth that contained just dentin and a tooth that contained both enamel and dentin. After these quantitative measurements, 10 RBCs with large differences in light emittance were compared qualitatively to assess their brightness when exposed to UV light compared to the dentin specimen and the specimen containing both enamel and dentin. It was found that, when exposed to UV light, some of the RBCs were less bright compared to the two samples of teeth used for comparison, but most were brighter; some were up to six times brighter. The filler appears to affect the opalescence peaks, while the resin appears to affect the fluorescence peaks. It was concluded that because RBCs emit very different levels of opalescence and fluorescence, UV light from the Woodpecker O-Star cannot be relied upon to detect all brands of RBC on the tooth. Aim: This study evaluated the efficacy and cytotoxicity of 35% hydrogen peroxide (HP) gel incorporated with 10% (w/w) biosilicate (BioS) on sound enamel and early‐stage enamel erosion lesions. Methods: Discs of enamel/dentin were selected, subjected to erosive cycles (0.3% citric acid, pH 2.6), and treated with (n = 8): HP (35% HP, positive control); HP_BioS [carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) + HP + BioS]; BioS (CMC + BioS); CMC (negative control). The discs were adapted to artificial pulp chambers with the enamel exposed for bleaching, and the dentin facing toward the culture medium (Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium [DMEM]). Bleaching was performed in three 30‐min sessions at 7‐day intervals. After bleaching, the diffusion product (DMEM extract + diffused HP) was pipetted onto MDPC‐23 odontoblastic cell line and inoculated. Color parameters (ΔL, Δa, Δb), color change (ΔE00), and changes in whiteness index (ΔWID) were determined before (T0) and after the last bleaching session (T3). Cell viability (MTT, %), H2O2 diffusion (μg/mL), oxidative cell stress (OxS), and cell fluorescence (live/dead assay, in confocal microscopy) were assessed (ANOVA/Tukey; α = 0.05). Results: No difference in ΔL, Δa, Δb, ΔE00, and ΔWID were found between HP and HP_BioS (p > 0.05). The incorporation of BioS decreased the HP diffusion into the substrates and mitigated oxidative stress in early‐stage eroded enamel (p < 0.05). HP_BioS presented significantly higher cell viability compared with HP under erosion conditions. Live/dead assay indicated that BioS_HP maintained viability with larger clusters of viable cells. Conclusion: Incorporating BioS into HP maintained bleaching effectiveness, favored cell viability, reduced the oxidative stress, and the cytotoxicity in teeth with early‐stage erosion. This study evaluated the effects of two chlorophyll derivatives, sodium copper chlorophyllin (Cu‐Chl) and sodium iron chlorophyllin (Fe‐Chl), on the bond strength between a self‐curing luting agent (4‐META/MMA‐TBB resin) and dentin. Five aqueous primers containing 35% 2‐hydroxyethylmethacrylate with 0.007% Cu‐Chl, 0.07% Cu‐Chl, 0.007% Fe‐Chl, 0.07% Fe‐Chl, or neither Cu‐Chl nor Fe‐Chl (no‐Chl) were prepared. The extracted human dentin surfaces were etched with 10% phosphoric acid (10PA), primed, and bonded to a resin block using the 4‐META/MMA‐TBB resin. A conventional etching agent (10‐3) and 10PA without primer (PA/no‐primer) were used as controls. The microtensile bond strength was determined after 48 h. The arithmetic medians for 20 stick specimens were calculated and statistically analyzed using a nonparametric Steel‐Dwass test (α = 0.05). The maximum bond strength was achieved in the 0.007% Cu‐Chl group, followed by those in the 0.07% Cu‐Chl, 0.07% Fe‐Chl, 10‐3, 0.007% Fe‐Chl, no‐Chl, and PA/no‐primer groups. No significant difference was observed between 0.007% Fe‐Chl, 0.07% Fe‐Chl, and 10‐3. The bond strength to dentin etched with 10PA was influenced by the type and concentration of the chlorophyll derivatives applied. This study evaluated the effect of solutions containing aminomethacrylate copolymer (AA) and sodium fluoride (F; 225 ppm F−) or fluoride plus stannous chloride (FSn; 225 ppm F−, 800 ppm Sn2+) against enamel and dentin erosion/abrasion. Solutions F, FSn, AA, F+AA, FSn+AA, and deionized water as negative control were tested. Bovine enamel and dentin specimens (n = 13/solution/substrate) underwent a set of erosion‐abrasion cycles (0.3% citric acid [5 min, 4×/day], human saliva [1 h, 4×/day], brushing [15 s, 2×/day], and treatments [2 min, 2×/day]) for each of five days. Initial enamel erosion was evaluated using Knoop microhardness after the first and second acid challenge on day 1, and surface loss with profilometry after day 5. KOH‐soluble fluoride was assessed. Data were analyzed with ANOVA/Tukey tests. The combination of fluoride and AA resulted in higher protection against enamel erosion, whereas this was not the case for the combination of AA and FSn. All treatments protected against enamel and dentin loss. The lowest surface loss values were observed with F+AA and FSn+AA. The polymer did not significantly influence the KOH‐soluble fluoride formation on enamel/dentin specimens. The aminomethacrylate copolymer effectively enhanced the efficacy of sodium fluoride against initial erosion and improved the control of enamel and dentin wear of F and FSn solutions. Objectives: Nitrogen isotopes (δ15N) are widely used to study human nursing and weaning ages. Conventional methods involve sampling 1‐mm thick sections of tooth dentine—producing an averaging effect that integrates months of formation. We introduce a novel protocol for measuring δ15N by multicollector secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS). Materials and Methods: We sampled dentine δ15N on a weekly to monthly basis along the developmental axis in two first molars of healthy children from Australia and New Zealand (n = 217 measurements). Nitrogen isotope ratios were determined from measurements of CN− secondary molecular ions in ~35 μm spots. By relating spot position to enamel formation, we identified prenatal dentine, as well as sampling ages over more than 3 years. We also created calcium‐normalized barium and strontium maps with laser ablation‐inductively coupled plasma‐mass spectrometry. Results: We found rapid postnatal δ15N increases of ~2‰–3‰, during which time the children were exclusively breastfed, followed by declines as the breastfeeding frequency decreased. After weaning, δ15N values remained stable for several months, coinciding with diets that did not include meat or cow's milk; values then varied by ~2‰ starting in the third year of life. Barium did not show an immediate postnatal increase, rising after a few months until ~1–1.5 years of age, and falling until or shortly after the cessation of suckling. Initial strontium trends varied but both individuals peaked months after weaning. Purpose: To explore the latest trends in research on whitening toothpaste and to present the issues and future perspectives of these studies. Methods: An initial PubMed search was performed, followed by a meticulous manual review. A total of 543 papers were initially retrieved, and 54 final research papers were selected and analyzed through a manual review. Results: The number of studies on whitening toothpastes has significantly increased, and while initial studies primarily focused on the efficacy of various whitening toothpastes, recent studies have shifted towards investigating the potential effects on dental hard tissues such as enamel and dentin. Common active ingredients used in these whitening toothpastes include hydrogen peroxide, activated charcoal, and blue covarine. Most studies have used commercial toothpastes with fixed ingredients rather than experimentally manufactured toothpaste, and it was noted that toothpastes from specific major manufacturers were frequently used. This study aimed to synthesize dentin powder surface modified with alginate, a potential substance for dental pulp regeneration, and evaluate its effects on the viability and proliferation of human dental pulp stem cells in vitro and its biocompatibility in vivo. In the in vitro phase, dentin powder was synthesized in 3 size groups (150–250 μm, 250–500 μm, and 500–1000 μm) after demineralization and atelopeptidization which is used to remove dentin collagen telopeptides and eliminate host immune response. Surface modification with alginate was performed and followed by field-emission scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and cell viability and proliferation testing for 14 days with human dental pulp stem cells studied. In the in vivo phase, dentin powders were implanted in rat calvarial defects for 8 weeks, and histologic analysis was conducted. All nonparametric data were analyzed with the Kruskal–Wallis test, and all the quantitative data were analyzed by 1-way analysis of variance using SPSS, and P <.05 was considered statistically significant. Demineralization and atelopeptidization were successful in all groups. Cell viability was optimal and equal (P >.05) in all groups. The 500- to 1000-μm group exhibited significantly higher cell proliferation (P <.05). Histologic assessment shows acceptable biocompatibility in all groups; the angiogenesis score was significantly greater in both 250–500 and 500–1000, and minimal inflammatory response was noted in the 500- to 1000-μm group, and the amount of newly formed bone in this group was higher than other groups. Surface modification of demineralized and atelopeptidized dentin powder with alginate enhanced surface physical properties and cell proliferation while showing great biocompatibility within tissue and reducing the host immune response. The aim of this study was to evaluate the volume of dentin removal and the volume of remnants of restorative material after the removal of an esthetic restorative coronal set and cervical barrier in endodontically treated mandibular molars with the aid of different magnification methods using 3-dimensional (3D) micro–computed tomographic (micro-CT) morphometric analysis. A sample of 30 mandibular first molars (N = 30) was used. All teeth were endodontically treated, and the specimens were initially scanned using micro-CT imaging and reconstructed. The molars were filled by a single-cone technique, and immediately the material at the initial 2-mm cervical level was removed. Cervical barriers were confected using ionomer glass cement with fluorescein 0.1%, filling the 2 mm at the cervical level of the canals and an additional 2 mm as the base. The coronal restoration set was performed using esthetic resin composites. A simulated tooth aging process was performed with 20,000 thermocycling cycles. The sample was distributed into the following 3 groups (n = 10) for the removal of the restoration set and cervical barrier with diamond burs based on the magnification aid: no magnification aid (naked eye), operative microscope aid, and REVEAL device (Design for Vision Inc, Bohemia, NY) aid. After removal, the final 3D micro-CT scanning and reconstruction were conducted with the same parameters as the initial scanning, and superposition of the final and initial scanning was performed. Morphometric analysis was conducted using CTAn software (Bruker microCT, Kontich, Belgium) to assess the volume of remnant restorative material (mm³), the volume of dentin removal (mm³), and the direction and site of dentin removal. Data were analyzed using 1-Way analysis of variance (P <.05). The REVEAL group showed better results regarding the volume of remnant material (3.17 ± 1.65) and the percentage of dentin removal (2.56 ± 1.34). The microscope group showed no statistical difference compared with the REVEAL group regarding dentin removal (3.30 ± 1.48) and was statistically similar to the naked eye group in the volume of remnant material (9.63 ± 4.33). The naked eye group showed the worst results for the volume of remnant material (7.60 ± 2.68) and the percentage of dentin removal (6.60 ± 3.70). The use of fluorescence associated with magnification was the method that presented the best results, with lower percentages of dentin removal and smaller volumes of remaining restorative material. Background: Nanocomposite resins have been widely used in modern denture manufacturing. However, their long-term color stability is a concern for both dental professionals and patients. Purpose: to evaluate the effect of different beverages on the color stability of 3D-printed denture base resins modified with zirconium dioxide nanoparticles (ZrO2NPs). Methods: A total of 440 specimens were fabricated and distributed into 11 groups (n = 40/group). The control group of heat polymerized (PMMA) and five groups of two different 3D-printed resins (NextDent and ASIGA) as experimental groups with various concentrations of ZrO2NPs added to the 3D-printed resins (0.5 wt%, 1 wt%, 3 wt%, 5 wt%) in addition to one unmodified group per resin. Specimens per group are sorted into four subgroups (n = 10) according to tested beverages, as follows: coffee, tea, cola, and mineral water. Before immersion, all the specimens were exposed to 5000 thermal cycles. Color changes (ΔE00) were assessed prior (T0) and following immersion for 6 days (T1) and 12 days (T2) using a spectrophotometer. Color difference values were calculated by using CIEDE2000 color difference. Data was analyzed by ANOVA and post hoc Tukey test with a significant level of less than 0.05. Results: Tea produced the highest color change for both NextDent and ASIGA materials, whereas water caused the least color change on PMMA at T2. Increasing the immersion time resulted in more color changes, with tea and coffee showing significant differences. PMMA had considerably less color change than 3D-printed resins. The color change of 3D-printed increased after adding ZrO2NPs. Conclusions: Beverage type and immersion time have an impact on the color stability of unmodified and ZrO2NP-modified denture base resins with significant change after immersion in tea and coffee. This study aimed to determine whether a correlation exists between residual dentin thickness and quantitative light-induced fluorescence (QLF) values and, if so, to analyze its tendencies. Forty extracted sound human molars were assigned to filled and unfilled groups. The teeth were submerged in a mold with clear acrylic resin. Red utility wax was inserted into the pulp chamber space in the filled group to simulate vital pulp. The specimen was sectioned longitudinally to observe the inside of the pulp space. The samples were cut horizontally from the highest point of the pulp space 2 mm apart. QLF images were then taken of 2 mm, 1 mm, and 0.5 mm samples using the QLF-D Biluminator™ 2 + system. Three operators independently evaluated the QLF images, and the statistical analysis was conducted using one-way analysis of variance, Pearson correlation coefficients, and intraclass correlation coefficients. In the filled group, the mean ΔF values for residual dentin thicknesses of 2 mm, 1 mm, and 0.5 mm were − 3.22, − 7.84, and − 11.52, respectively. In the unfilled group, the mean ΔF values were 0, − 6.90, and − 10.14, respectively. A positive correlation was found between residual dentin thickness and ΔF values (P < 0.05). The intraclass correlation coefficients for observations made by the three operators for the filled and unfilled groups were 0.831 and 0.917, respectively (P < 0.05). Inherited dentine defects result from the disruption of both the formation and mineralisation of the dentine matrix of the primary and/or permanent dentitions. This leads to abnormal structural morphological characteristics such as atubular dentine, pulp calcifications and/or root dysplasia. This also jeopardises the mechanical properties and wear resistance of the affected teeth, leading to marked tooth surface loss. Other clinical features include opalescent discolouration, pulp obliteration, short roots and spontaneous periapical abscesses. Inherited dentine defects may occur in isolation, or they may present as a feature of a broader systemic condition or syndrome. Management should focus on preserving the affected dentition for as long as possible, minimising discomfort and restoring aesthetics. Tissue engineering is an emerging field in dentistry, and stem cell research has shown promise in regenerating new tissue. The three essential components for tissue engineering are stem cells, scaffolds, and growth/differentiation factors. Numerous studies have been conducted in regenerative medicine, and more recently in regenerative dentistry, utilizing different signals. In a pioneering study, dentin derivative signal (DDS), which was self-administered, was used as a differentiation factor for dental pulp stem cells to promote dentinogenesis in vitro. (1) Background: In recent years, there has been a growing interest in tooth-derived materials as valuable alternatives to synthetic biomaterials for preventing alveolar ridge dimensional changes. This study aimed to evaluate the histological and clinical differences between alveolar ridge preservation procedures in the maxilla and mandible using demineralized dentin treated with Tooth Transformer®. (2) Methods: A total of 178 patients in good general health were enrolled, with 187 post-extractive sockets lacking buccal and/or palatal bone walls. Alveolar socket preservation procedures and histological evaluations were performed. The sites were divided into two groups: Group A (99 mandibular samples) and Group B (108 maxillary samples). After 5 months (±1 month), single bone biopsies were performed for histologic and histomorphometric analysis. (3) Results: Clinical outcomes demonstrated a good healing of hard and soft tissues with an effective maintenance of bone architecture in both groups. Histomorphometric analysis revealed a total bone volume of 50.33% (±14.86) in Group A compared to 43.53% (±12.73) in Group B. The vital new bone volume was 40.59% (±19.90) in Group A versus 29.70% (±17.68) in Group B, with residual graft dentin material volume at 7.95% (±9.85) in Group A compared to 6.75% (±9.62) in Group B. (4) Conclusions: These results indicate that tooth-derived material supports hard tissue reconstruction by following the structure of the surrounding bone tissue. A 6.8% difference observed between the maxilla and mandible reflects the inherent disparities in natural bone structures in these regions. This suggests that the bone regeneration process after tooth extraction adheres to an anatomical functional pattern that reflects the specific bone characteristics of each area, thus contributing to the preservation of the morphology and functionality of the surrounding bone tissue. A dentinogenic ghost cell tumor (DGCT) is a rare benign odontogenic tumor that commonly shows characteristics of solid proliferation and has a relatively high risk of recurrence after surgical treatment. We herein report a case of a central DGCT that occurred in the maxilla and resulted in bone expansion. This study highlights new imaging findings (particularly magnetic resonance imaging) along with histopathological observations. In addition, we conducted a review of the existing literature on this rare tumor. A 37-year-old man developed swelling around the right cheek. A benign odontogenic tumor such as ameloblastoma was suspected based on the imaging examination findings (including bone expansion and the internal characteristics of the tumor) on panoramic imaging, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging. The lesion was surgically excised from the right maxilla. Postoperative histopathological examination led to a definitive diagnosis of central DGCT. The tumor comprised epithelial neoplastic islands, resembling ameloblastoma, inside tight fibroconnective tissue; masses of ghost cells and formation of dentin were also observed. We had suspected that the minute high-density region around the molars on the imaging examinations represented alveolar bone change; however, it represented dentin formation. This led to difficulty diagnosing the lesion. Although DGCT may present characteristic findings on imaging examinations, its occurrence is infrequent, and in some cases, the findings may include the presence or absence of an impacted tooth without obvious calcification. Stem cell-mediated bio-root regeneration is an alternative tooth replacement strategy; however, physiologically functional bio-root regeneration with distinctive dentin structure remains challenging. In this study, the distinct arrangements of collagen fibril bundles were identified that account for hierarchical structural differences between dentin, cementum, and alveolar bone. Thus, an "engineered pre-dentin" was fabricated, which was a dentin hierarchical structure mimicking collagen (MC) scaffold, with well-aligned hierarchical mineralized collagen fibril bundles. The results revealed that it has a stronger effect on promoting biological root regeneration in nude mice and miniature pigs with dental pulp stem cell (DPSC) and periodontal ligament stem cell (PDLSC) sheets compared to hydroxyapatite tricalcium phosphate (HA/TCP). The success rate in the MC group was also higher than that in the HA/TCP group (67% and 33%, respectively).
