Abstract

We report on frequency tripling of high energy, high repetition rate ns pulses from a cryogenically gas cooled multi-slab Yb:YAG laser system Bivoj/DiPOLE, using a type-I phase matched LBO crystal for second harmonic generation and type-II phase matched LBO crystal for sum frequency generation. We achieved conversion to 343 nm with stable energy of 50 J at repetition rate of 10 Hz and conversion efficiency of 53%.

2. Compressive imaging of transient absorption dynamics on the femtosecond timescale

Abstract

Femtosecond spectroscopy is an important tool for tracking rapid photoinduced processes in a variety of materials. To spatially map the processes in a sample would substantially expand the capabilities of the method. This is, however, difficult to achieve due to the necessity to use low-noise detection and to maintain feasible data acquisition time. Here we demonstrate realization of an imaging pump-probe setup, featuring sub-100 fs temporal resolution, by a straightforward modification of a standard pump-probe technique, using a randomly structured probe beam. The structured beam, made by a diffuser, enabled us to computationally reconstruct the maps of transient absorption dynamics based on the concept of compressed sensing. We demonstrate the functionality of the setup in two proof-of-principle experiments, were we achieve spatial resolution of 20 \mu m. The presented concept provides a feasible route to imaging, using the pump-probe technique and ultrafast spectroscopy in general., Comment: 13 pages, 6 figures

Abstract

AbstractWe present results of frequency tripling experiments performed at the Hilase facility on a cryogenically gas cooled multi-slab ytterbium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet laser system, Bivoj/DiPOLE. The laser produces high-energy ns pulses at 10 Hz repetition rate, which are frequency doubled using a type-I phase-matched lithium triborate (LBO) crystal and consequently frequency summed using a type-II phase-matched LBO crystal. We demonstrated a stable frequency conversion to 343 nm at 50 J energy and 10 Hz repetition rate with conversion efficiency of 53%.

Abstract

In the last two decades, the price of the laser diodes significantly dropped and made them an energy-effective solution for pumping high energy class high average power solid-state lasers. This is a significant advantage for the potential use of such lasers in industry, where operation cost is considered. The efficiency of such diode-pumped lasers is much higher compared to the previous generation of flashlamp-pumped solid-state lasers. In addition, the small size of the laser diodes allows a drastic reduction of the overall size of the solid-state lasers. This article will give a brief summary of the worldwide progress in the area of high energy high average power diode-pumped laser systems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
