The purpose of this study is to examine the studies conducted with psychological counselors on gifted students in Türkiye. Since the studies on the identification and support of gifted students are based on a recent history, it is important to look at the studies conducted with psychological counselors in this field in general and to make suggestions by examining the topics studied. The research was conducted with document analysis method, one of the qualitative research methods. Articles and theses on psychological counselors and gifted students were examined. Purposive sampling was used in the research. The theses and dissertations were analyzed in Council of Higher Education Thesis Center database and articles were analyzed in The National Academic Network and Information Centre databases in Turkish. The terms "giftedness", "special talent", "psychological counselor", "guidance counselor" and "Science and Art Center"3 were used in the research. As a result of the research, considering the inclusion criteria, 6 articles and 7 theses conducted between 2013 and 2023 were determined as the study group. The studies were examined within the framework of the year of publication, thesis type, research model, and the topics covered in the studies. The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) gathered data between 1989 and 1997 to build an "objective database" to further understand the occupational exposures generated by the few asbestos-containing materials remaining at various steelmaking companies at this time. This paper analyzed the 520 samples from this campaign which occurred at five different steel manufacturers: Georgetown Steel Company, Inland Steel Company, Ling-Temco-Vought (LTV) Corporation, United States Steel Corporation, and Weirton Steel Corporation. This database is believed to have never previously been systematically organized. Samples were grouped based on sampling times to determine whether they should most appropriately be compared to the OSHA short-term excursion limit (EL) or the 8-hr time-weighted average (TWA) permissible exposure limit (PEL). Sampling times of 30 min or less were considered short-term samples, and samples of 180 min or greater were considered representative workday samples. Samples that did not fit into either category, with sampling times between 31 and 179 min, were considered task samples. Overall, the data indicated that the airborne concentrations were quite low in 1989 and they continued to be low through the study period which ended in 1997. Only seven out of 286 (approximately 2.5%) short-term or representative workday samples were in exceedance of the current OSHA OELs that were implemented in 1994 (short-term samples being compared to the 1 f/cc EL and representative workday samples being compared to the 0.1 f/cc 8-hr TWA PEL). Consistent with prior data, analysis of this dataset supports the view that materials containing asbestos were not used in many applications in the steel industry, and measured airborne concentrations of asbestos were almost always below the occupational exposure limits (OELs) in the post-OSHA era (1972–2000). Purpose: Single-subject voxel-based morphometry (VBM) compares an individual T1-weighted MRI to a sample of normal MRI in a normative database (NDB) to detect regional atrophy. Outliers in the NDB might result in reduced sensitivity of VBM. The primary aim of the current study was to propose a method for outlier removal ("NDB cleaning") and to test its impact on the performance of VBM for detection of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD). Methods: T1-weighted MRI of 81 patients with biomarker-confirmed AD (n = 51) or FTLD (n = 30) and 37 healthy subjects with simultaneous FDG-PET/MRI were included as test dataset. Two different NDBs were used: a scanner-specific NDB (37 healthy controls from the test dataset) and a non-scanner-specific NDB comprising 164 normal T1-weighted MRI from 164 different MRI scanners. Three different quality metrics based on leave-one-out testing of the scans in the NDB were implemented. A scan was removed if it was an outlier with respect to one or more quality metrics. VBM maps generated with and without NDB cleaning were assessed visually for the presence of AD or FTLD. Results: Specificity of visual interpretation of the VBM maps for detection of AD or FTLD was 100% in all settings. Sensitivity was increased by NDB cleaning with both NDBs. The effect was statistically significant for the multiple-scanner NDB (from 0.47 [95%-CI 0.36–0.58] to 0.61 [0.49–0.71]). Conclusion: NDB cleaning has the potential to improve the sensitivity of VBM for the detection of AD or FTLD without increasing the risk of false positive findings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Real-world databases can be valuable for supporting such research, but fitness for regulatory purpose must first be vetted. Here, we demonstrate a fit-for-purpose assessment of the Japan Medical Data Center (JMDC) claims database for pregnancy safety regulatory decision-making.Patients and Methods: The Duke-Margolis framework considers a database’s fitness for regulatory purpose based on relevancy (capacity to answer the research question based on variable availability and a sufficiently sized, representative population) and quality (ability to validly answer the research question based on data completeness and accuracy). To assess these considerations, we examined descriptive characteristics of infants and pregnancies among females ages 12– 55 years in the JMDC between January 2005 and March 2022.Results: For relevancy, we determined that critical data fields (maternal medications, infant major congenital malformations, covariates) are available. Family identification codes permitted linkage of 385,295 total mother–infant pairs, 57% of which were continuously enrolled during pregnancy. The prevalence of specific congenital malformation subcategories and maternal medical conditions were representative of the general population, but preterm births were below expectations (3.6% versus 5.6%) in this population. For quality, our methods are expected to accurately identify the complete set of mothers and infants with a shared health insurance plan. However, validity of gestational age information was limited given the high proportion (60%) of missing live birth delivery codes coupled with suppression of infant birth dates and inaccessibility of disease codes with gestational week information.Conclusion: The JMDC may be well suited for descriptive studies of pregnant people in Japan (eg, comorbidities, medication usage). More work is needed to identify a method to assign pregnancy onset and delivery dates so that in utero medication exposure windows can be defined more precisely as needed for many regulatory postapproval pregnancy safety studies.Keywords: routine health care data, international databases, database evaluation

New design provisions for anchorage and lap design, based on Model Code 2010 and the related background document, have been proposed for the next generation of Eurocode 2 (prEC2). In this article, the new provisions are examined and compared with the provisions in current Eurocode 2 (EC2). In the first of the three parts of this study, design examples are developed to show the practicability and effectiveness of the new design provisions. In the second part, parametric studies are carried out to check the generality of the new provisions and to clarify the roles of the main input parameters controlling the design of anchorages and laps. In the third part, a comparison is made between the predictions based on the new provisions and the results of a large database reported in the literature. To improve the fitting of the test results, adjustments are proposed for the coefficients appearing in the provisions of prEC2. The proposed adjustments—that may be introduced into National Annexes—ensure a sufficient level of safety of the new provisions for the design of anchorages and laps. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The accessibility of digital information has expanded orthopaedic surgery with expanded role of Big Databases. The increasing interest have led to creation of large databases with increasing utilization in retrospective studies. The aim of this study is to identify Big Database research and predict future hotspots. Big Database publications between 1982 and 2022 were identified from the Web of Science Core Collection of Clarivate Analytics. Bibliometric indicators were obtained and imported for further analysis with VOSviewer and Bibliometrix to identify previous and ongoing trends within this field. Bibliometric sourcing identified 811 total articles that was associated with major databases. Twenty-eight countries published manuscript in the field with the United States as the largest contributor. The most relevant institutions were Cleveland Clinic and Harvard University. Mont MA was the most productive and influential author. Co-occurrence visualization and thematic map identified niche and major themes within the literature. Large Database research continue to show an increasing trend since 2011 with contributions globally. United States institutions and authors are the leading contributors in big database research. Based on the PageRank algorithm, using citation analysis and social network analysis, this paper puts forward three subject-related evaluation indexes of foreign periodicals database, namely, the subject demand degree of the database, the academic benefits of the database, and the subject matching degree of the database, and constructs the subject evaluation model of the database. Taking the Science Division of Tongji University as an example, this paper makes an empirical analysis of the database of foreign periodicals and establishes the literature resource clusters of different levels of the Science Division. Missing data are pandemic and a central problem for epidemiology. Missing data reduce precision and can cause notable bias. There remain too few simple published examples detailing types of missing data and illustrating their possible impact on results. Here we take an example randomized trial that was not subject to missing data and induce missing data to illustrate 4 scenarios in which outcomes are 1) missing completely at random, 2) missing at random with positivity, 3) missing at random without positivity, and 4) missing not at random. We demonstrate that accounting for missing data is generally a better strategy than ignoring missing data, which unfortunately remains a standard approach in epidemiology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, a static loading test was performed to examine the shear behavior of twelve ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) corbels. The impact of key parameters, such as shear-span ratio, steel fiber volume ratio, and stirrup reinforcement ratio on corbels' mechanical behavior, were explored. The test findings reveal that the cracking load of UHPC corbels is significantly higher than that of the corbels without steel fiber, and the failure mode changes from shear failure to flexural failure. Reducing the shear-span ratio and increasing the stirrup reinforcement ratio substantially improved the shear capacity of the corbels. Furthermore, a modified strut-and-tie model was developed for predicting the shear capacity of UHPC corbels. A shear test database for UHPC corbels was compiled to validate the accuracy of the proposed method. The model showed strong agreement with the test results and demonstrated satisfactory adaptability. Finally, four other models from national standards and academic proposals were evaluated under the same conditions. The proposed model showed superior correlation with the experimental data, suggesting its potential to improve the design and application of UHPC corbels in practical engineering contexts. • Twelve UHPC corbels were tested under shear load. • The mechanical behavior, failure modes, and crack width of corbels were explored. • A modified strut-and-tie model was developed for the shear capacity of UHPC corbels. The level of maximum punching strength is of major importance to design highly stressed slab‐column connections and to choose the type of punching shear reinforcement. Since a couple of years, there is consensus that the maximum punching strength of shear‐reinforced concrete slabs can be defined as a multiple of the reference punching strength without shear reinforcement. The upper bound of this load‐increasing effect depends mainly on the anchorage and arrangement of shear reinforcement elements. Despite numerous research studies and database evaluations, there are ongoing discussions regarding the final effectiveness of stirrups and double headed studs installed in flat slabs and column bases. In this paper, a strictly filtered punching database is used to highlight the significant impact of underlying reference strength comparing the maximum load increase according to current Eurocode 2 and the draft for the next generation of Eurocode 2 (prEC2). Based on this unifying database, the origin of current discrepancies is discussed and a combination of constant lower bound coefficients with a refined formula as specified in prEC2 is proposed. Additionally, the effect of adapting current European Technical Approvals for double‐headed studs and punching shear optimized lattice girders to prEC2 is shortly analyzed. The Cochrane COVID‐19 Study Register (CCSR) is a public, continually updated database of COVID‐19 study references. The aim of this study‐based register is to support rapid and living evidence synthesis, including an evidence ecosystem of COVID‐19 research (CEOsys). In November and December 2020, we conducted an evaluation of the CCSR for CEOsys, measured its performance and identified areas for improvement. For the evaluation we generated a purposive sample of 286 studies from 20 reviews to calculate the CCSR's comprehensiveness (sensitivity), accuracy (correctly classified and linked studies) and currency (time to publish and process references). Our sample showed that the CCSR had an overall comprehensiveness of 77.2%, with the highest coverage for interventional studies (94.4%). The study register had 100% coverage for trial registry records, 86.5% for journal articles and 52.4% for preprints. A total of 98.3% of references were correctly classified with regard to study type, and 93.4% with regard to study aim. A total of 89% of studies were correctly linked. A total of 81.4% of references were published to the register in under 30 days, with 0.5 day (median) for trial registry records, 2 days for journal articles and 56 days for preprints. The CCSR had high comprehensiveness, accurate study classifications and short publishing times for journal articles and trial registry records in the sample. We identified that coverage and publishing time for preprints needed improvement. The COVID-19 pandemic has made librarians responsible for children's book collections in academic libraries acutely aware of the need to acquire children's and young adult materials in electronic formats. This research project compared the availability of 1,600 award-winning and professionally-recognized PreK-12 titles within the e-book platforms of EBSCO, Follett, Hoopla, Mackin, Overdrive, ProQuest, and Tumblebooks. In addition, the authors examined the availability of children's ebooks pertaining to racial/ethnic, gender, LGBTQþ, and disability diversity from these vendors. The results of this study indicated that there were substantial disparities in the availability of e-books by grade level and by publisher. The availability of titles pertaining to people of color, women, LGBTQþpersons, and people with disabilities was usually (but not always) similar or better compared to the availability of all titles in the dataset. Effective and accessible disability programs are essential to supporting Canadians with disabilities and achieving Canada's commitment to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The limited availability of centralized data on disability programs in Canada makes it difficult to understand, let alone evaluate, existing programs. To address this issue, we used government publications to create a database that compiles expenditure data, caseload data, and information about disability programs for each Canadian province from fiscal year 1999/00 to 2017/18, where available. Large amounts of missing data could distort item parameter estimation and lead to biased ability estimates in educational assessments. Therefore, missing responses should be handled properly before estimating any parameters. In this study, two Monte Carlo simulation studies were conducted to compare the performance of four methods in handling missing data when estimating ability parameters. The methods were full-information maximum likelihood (FIML), zero replacement, and multiple imputation with chain equations utilizing classification and regression trees (MICE-CART) and random forest imputation (MICE-RFI). For the two imputation methods, missing responses were considered as a valid response category to enhance the accuracy of imputations. Bias, root mean square error, and the correlation between true ability parameters and estimated ability parameters were used to evaluate the accuracy of ability estimates for each method. Results indicated that FIML outperformed the other methods under most conditions. Zero replacement yielded accurate ability estimates when missing proportions were very high. The performances of MICE-CART and MICE-RFI were quite similar but these two methods appeared to be affected differently by the missing data mechanism. As the number of items increased and missing proportions decreased, all the methods performed better. In addition, the information on missing data could improve the performance of MICE-RFI and MICE-CART when the data set is sparse and the missing data mechanism is missing at random. The present paper reports a viscosity and density unpublished database of systems formed for fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs), leading to 426 experimental data points of each property. Kay's mixing rule and Grunberg-Nissan equation were used to estimate data and the group contribution models GC-VOL and GC-UNIMOD were used to predict density and viscosity, respectively. For surface tension, parameters of a Wilson modified equation were adjusted and tested in systems with composition similar to biodiesel. Density estimations resulted in global average relative deviations (ARD) of 0.02%, 0.07% and 0.15% for Kay's mixing rule weighted in mass and molar fractions, and GC-VOL model, respectively. For viscosities, GC-UNIMOD was the most accurate model with global ARD of 5.17%. The surface tension prediction resulted in global ARD minor than 7.00%. These results are an important tool to improve the biodiesel production, its modeling and simulation. • Physical properties of fatty acid methyl esters binary systems were measured. • The accuracy of group contribution models and simple equations were evaluated for density and viscosity. • Specific methyl esters parameters that allow surface tension prediction were obtained. Most of the current shear strength design provisions for reinforced concrete (RC) members with fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) bars are empirically derived or calibrated by using different data sets. Therefore, a reliable database for developing or comparing such provisions with test results is of vital importance. In this paper, a database of shear tests on FRP-RC members was collected from published test results. This data set initially included 754 tests, and after applying several control and filtering criteria, two evaluationlevel databases for slender members were developed. Then, the databases were used to evaluate the accuracy of the shear strength provisions from six current design guidelines and two other design models. It was determined that CSA S806-12 provided more accurate predictions for members without or with FRP stirrups than other methods considered in this study, while the ACI 440, JSCE, and Modified Compression Field Theory (MCFT)-based methods provided more conservative predictions, with a measuredto- predicted ratio between 1.31 and 2.60. Background: To determine whether a minimal stimulation (MS) or high-dose stimulation (HDS) protocol is a better option for patients classified as poor ovarian responders (POR) in terms of reproductive and pregnancy outcomes. Materials and methods: A database search for evaluation of the study outcome by using meta-analysis method was carried out. The primary outcome was the clinical pregnancy (CP) rate for each of two groups, namely, the MS and HDS groups. The secondary outcomes were the gonadotropin dose used, duration of stimulation, cancellation rate, number of oocytes retrieved, number of fertilized oocytes, number of embryos transferred and live birth rates. Results: Across five databases, 4670 potential studies for further screening were selected. But ultimately only six studies, three RCTs and three retrospective or case control studies were selected that meet the Bologna criteria for POR. In all there were 624 cycles. Our meta-analysis indicated that the CP rates, cycle cancellation rates, durations of stimulation, numbers of oocytes fertilized and numbers of embryos transferred were not statistically significant. Clearly, the number of oocytes retrieved in the MS group was significantly lower than in the HDS group, while the HDS group consumed significantly higher doses of gonadotropins than the MS group. The live birth rates were significantly higher in the MS group than in the HDS group. Conclusion: MS should be the first-line protocol for managing POR because the live birth rate is significantly higher, even with fewer oocytes retrieved. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The process of project evaluation is of vital importance for decision-making in organizations. In the particular case of IT projects, the historical average of successful projects is 30.7%, while renegotiated projects are 47.3% and cancelled projects are 22% [1]. These figures mean that huge budgets are affected every year by errors in planning or control and monitoring of projects, with an economic and social impact. The objective of this research is to evaluate the MCGEP evolutionary algorithm in different versions databases with information on the evaluation of IT projects. Objective: The main purpose of our study was to subjectively assess the quality of a paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) database according to the Directory of Clinical Databases (DoCDat) criteria. Design and setting: A survey was conducted between April 1 and June 15, 2018, among the Sainte Justine PICU research group. Population: Every member of this group whose research activity required the use of the database and/or who was involved in the development/validation of the database. Interventions: None. Measurements and main results: All 10 research team members (one Information Technology specialist, one junior medical student, and eight clinician researchers) who used the high‐resolution database fulfilled the survey (100% response rate). The median quality level of the Sainte Justine PICU database across all the 10 criteria was 3 (2‐4), rated on a 1 (worst) to 4 (best) numeric scale. When compared with previously assessed databases through the DoCDat criteria, we found that the Sainte Justine PICU database performance was similar. Conclusions: The PICU high‐resolution database appeared of good quality when subjectively assessed by the DoCDat criteria. Further validation procedures are mandatory. The electrocardiogram (ECG) is a widely disseminated method for detecting heart diseases due to its lower cost than other tests. But, some steps are important for detecting cardiac arrhythmias in ECG signals, which are: preprocessing, segmentation, feature extraction and classification. In this work, we assess how four non-morphological feature extraction methods provide useful ECG classification. Moreover, we propose an innovation in the configuration of the structural co-occurrence matrix (SCM), by combining it with the Fourier transform to extract the main frequencies of the signal. We tested theses methods on four well-known classifiers used in the literature and compare the results with six classical feature extraction methods. Moreover, we followed high standard protocols for developing expert systems for clinical usage. The database chosen for evaluation is the MIT-BIH arrhythmia database. We increased the identification of heart dysrhythmia by 2%, representing an advance on reports on the literature. The developed system is 1.3% more reliable than the current best approach reported, being 10 6 times faster, as well. The HOS with naive Bayes classified pathologies in 22 patients with 94.3% of accuracy. We perceived that SCM–Fourier is 1.5% more accurate than the SCM or Fourier standalone. The feature extractor proposed in this paper compress 97% of the useful information to provide a reliable arrhythmia classification. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aesthetic perception is a human instinct that is responsive to multimedia stimuli. Giving computers the ability to assess human sensory and perceptual experience of aesthetics is a well-recognized need for the intelligent design industry and multimedia intelligence study. In this work, we constructed a novel database for the aesthetic evaluation of design, using 2,918 images collected from the archives of two major design awards, and we also present a method of aesthetic evaluation that uses machine learning algorithms. Reviewers' ratings of the design works are set as the ground-truth annotations for the dataset. Furthermore, multiple image features are extracted and fused. The experimental results demonstrate the validity of the proposed approach. Primary screening using aesthetic computing can be an intelligent assistant for various design evaluations and can reduce misjudgment in art and design review due to visual aesthetic fatigue after a long period of viewing. The study of computational aesthetic evaluation can provide positive effect on the efficiency of design review, and it is of great significance to aesthetic recognition exploration and applications development. Each scientific database has specific standard characteristics. These properties gain importance in terms of the correctness and speed of access to the data contained in the database. The sources of scientific information that the members of Ankara University will need are presented in the electronic environment using the most contemporary information and communication technologies. This article aims to determine the information needs of the members of Ankara University and to determine the information access and the use of information by identifying the information access model for researching the educational facilities and the necessary infrastructure and technical support so that the maximum benefit can be obtained from the electronic library. Objectives: Studies have shown contradicting results on the association of nursing workload and mortality. Most of these studies expressed workload as patients per nurse ratios; however, this does not take into account that some patients require more nursing time than others. Nursing time can be quantified by tools like the Nursing Activities Score. We investigated the association of the Nursing Activities Score per nurse ratio, respectively, the patients per nurse ratio with in-hospital mortality in ICUs.Design: Retrospective analysis of the National Intensive Care Evaluation database.Setting: Fifteen Dutch ICUs.Patients: All ICU patients admitted to and registered ICU nurses working at 15 Dutch ICUs between January 1, 2016, and January 1, 2018, were included. The association of mean or day 1 patients per nurse ratio and Nursing Activities Score per nurse ratio with in-hospital mortality was analyzed using logistic regression models.Interventions: None.Measurements and Main Results: Nursing Activities Score per nurse ratio greater than 41 for both mean Nursing Activities Score per nurse ratio as well as Nursing Activities Score per nurse ratio on day 1 were associated with a higher in-hospital mortality (odds ratios, 1.19 and 1.17, respectively). After case-mix adjustment the association between a Nursing Activities Score per nurse ratio greater than 61 for both mean Nursing Activities Score per nurse ratio as well as Nursing Activities Score per nurse ratio on day 1 and in-hospital mortality remained significant (odds ratios, 1.29 and 1.26, respectively). Patients per nurse ratio was not associated with in-hospital mortality.Conclusions: A higher Nursing Activities Score per nurse ratio was associated with higher in-hospital mortality. In contrast, no association was found between patients per nurse ratios and in-hospital mortality in The Netherlands. Therefore, we conclude that it is more important to focus on the nursing workload that the patients generate rather than on the number of patients the nurse has to take care of in the ICU. The IberSpeech-RTVE Challenge presented at IberSpeech 2018 is a new Albayzin evaluation series supported by the Spanish Thematic Network on Speech Technologies (Red Temática en Tecnologías del Habla (RTTH)). That series was focused on speech-to-text transcription, speaker diarization, and multimodal diarization of television programs. For this purpose, the Corporacion Radio Television Española (RTVE), the main public service broadcaster in Spain, and the RTVE Chair at the University of Zaragoza made more than 500 h of broadcast content and subtitles available for scientists. The dataset included about 20 programs of different kinds and topics produced and broadcast by RTVE between 2015 and 2018. The programs presented different challenges from the point of view of speech technologies such as: the diversity of Spanish accents, overlapping speech, spontaneous speech, acoustic variability, background noise, or specific vocabulary. This paper studies the complexity of query evaluation for databases whose relations are partially ordered; the problem commonly arises when combining or transforming ordered data from multiple sources. We focus on queries in a useful fragment of SQL, namely positive relational algebra with aggregates, whose bag semantics we extend to the partially ordered setting. Our semantics leads to the study of two main computational problems: the possibility and certainty of query answers. We show that these problems are respectively NP-complete and coNP-complete, but identify tractable cases depending on the query operators or input partial orders. The objective of this research was to suggest some simple solution to increase database manipulation security. Based on advantage of Homomorphic encryption, user's data in database is always encrypted by Homomorphic encryption algorithm such as Paillier. User's data is manipulated or processed on many times such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. By the advantage of Homomorphic encryption algorithm, user's data will not be decrypted while manipulated. Therefore, secrecy of data is still kept. Unfortunately, Paillier's Homomorphic encryption normally covers only addition and multiplication operation on numerical data. This paper suggests simple technique to enhance Pailler's encryption algorithm to perform data operation as well in subtraction and division operation. Evaluation in suggested database manipulation, DSM-PHE, indicates that its operation tasks take five operation times more than ordinary data base manipulation operation tasks, without any encryption. In this paper, we present a systematic literature review concerning 3D object recognition and classification. We cover articles published between 2006 and 2016 available in three scientific databases (ScienceDirect, IEEE Xplore and ACM), using the methodology for systematic review proposed by Kitchenham. Based on this methodology, we used tags and exclusion criteria to select papers about the topic under study. After the works selection, we applied a categorization process aiming to group similar object representation types, analyzing the steps applied for object recognition, the tests and evaluation performed and the databases used. Zahlreiche Autoren, Autorinnen und kritische Initiativen (z. B. DORA) kritisieren den zu hohen und schädlichen Einfluss quantitativer Daten, welche akademische Instanzen für Evaluationszwecke heranziehen. Wegen des großen Einflusses der globalen Zitatdatenbanken von Thomson Reuters (bzw. Clarivate Analytics) auf die Bewertung der wissenschaftlichen Leistungen von Forscherinnen und Forschern habe ich extensive qualitative und quantitative Fallstudien zur Datenqualität des Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) durchgeführt, d. h. die Originaleinträge mit den SSCI-Datensätzen verglichen. Diese Fallstudien zeigten schwerste – nie in der Literatur erwähnte – Fehler, Verstümmelungen, Phantomautoren, Phantomwerke (Fehlerrate in der Fallstudie zu Beebe 2010, Harvard Law Review: 99 Prozent). Über die verwendeten Datenerfassungs- und Indexierungsverfahren von TR bzw. Clarivate Analytics ist nur wenig bekannt. Ein Ergebnis meiner Untersuchungen: Bei der Indexierung von Verweisen in Fußnoten (wie in den Rechtswissenschaften, gerade auch der USA, vorgeschrieben) scheinen die verwendeten Textanalyse-Anwendungen und -Algorithmen völlig überfordert. Eine Qualitätskontrolle scheint nicht stattzufinden. Damit steht der Anspruch des SSCI als einer multidisziplinären Datenbank zur Debatte. Korrekte Zitate in den Fußnoten des Originals können zu Phantom-Autoren, Phantom-Werken und Phantom-Referenzen degenerieren. Das bedeutet: Sämtliche Zeitschriften und Disziplinen, deren Zeitschriften und Büchern dieses oder ähnliche Zitierverfahren verwenden (Oxford-Style), laufen Gefahr, aufgrund starker Zitatverluste falsch, d. h. unterbewertet, zu werden. Wie viele UBOs (Unidentifiable Bibliographic Objects) sich in den Datenbanken SCI, SSCI und AHCI befinden, wäre nur mit sehr aufwändigen Prozeduren zu klären. Unabhängig davon handelt es sich, wie bei fast allen in meinen Untersuchungen gefundenen fatalen Fehlern, eindeutig um endogene Fehler in den Datenbanken, die nicht, wie oft behauptet, angeblich falsch zitierenden Autorinnen und Autoren zugeschrieben werden können, sondern erst im Laufe der Dateneingabe und -verarbeitung entstehen. Numerous authors and critical initiatives (such as DORA) criticize the excessive and damaging influence of quantitative data that academic administrators use for evaluation purposes. Due to the great impact of Thomson Reuters' (TR) or Clarivate Analytics' global citation databases on the evaluation of researchers' scientific achievements, I have conducted extensive qualitative and quantitative case studies on the data quality of the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), in an innovative way by comparing the original references cited with the SSCI records indexed entries. These case studies revealed the most serious – to my knowledge, never mentioned in the literature before – errors, mutilations, phantom authors, phantom works (error rate: 99 % in the case study for Beebe 2010, Harvard Law Review). Little is known about the data collection and indexing techniques used by TR and Clarivate Analytics. A result of my investigations: When indexing references in footnotes (as prescribed in the scientific discipline of law, especially in the USA), the text analysis applications and algorithms seem to be completely overextended; quality control seems not to be in place. This raises the claim of the SSCI to be of a high quality multidisciplinary database. Correct citations in the footnotes of the original can degenerate into phantom authors, phantom works, and phantom references. This means that all journals and disciplines with journals and books using this or similar citation method (Oxford Style) run the risk of being misrepresented (i.e. undervalued) due to heavy citation losses. How many unidentifiable bibliographic objects (UBOs) are in the SCI, SSCI and AHCI databases would only be possible with very complex procedures. Either way, as with almost all the fatal errors found in my investigations, it is clearly a matter of endogenous databases errors that can not be attributed, as so often claimed, to allegedly misquoted authors, but induced only in the course of data entry and processing. The arterial pulse wave (PW) is a rich source of information on cardiovascular (CV) health. It is widely measured by both consumer and clinical devices. However, the physical determinants of the PW are not yet fully understood, and the development of PW analysis algorithms is limited by a lack of PW data sets containing reference CV measurements. Our aim was to create a database of PWs simulated by a computer to span a range of CV conditions, representative of a sample of healthy adults. The typical CV properties of 25-75 yr olds were identified through a literature review. These were used as inputs to a computational model to simulate PWs for subjects of each age decade. Pressure, flow velocity, luminal area, and photoplethysmographic PWs were simulated at common measurement sites, and PW indexes were extracted. The database, containing PWs from 4,374 virtual subjects, was verified by comparing the simulated PWs and derived indexes with corresponding in vivo data. Good agreement was observed, with well-reproduced age-related changes in hemodynamic parameters and PW morphology. The utility of the database was demonstrated through case studies providing novel hemodynamic insights, in silico assessment of PW algorithms, and pilot data to inform the design of clinical PW algorithm assessments. In conclusion, the publicly available PW database is a valuable resource for understanding CV determinants of PWs and for the development and preclinical assessment of PW analysis algorithms. The FNG-Copper benchmark mock-up is among the first SINBAD (Shielding Integral Benchmark Archive and Database) evaluations being prepared after a long pause. The neutronics benchmark experiment on a pure 60 × 60 × 69.946 cm3 Copper assembly was performed in the frame of the European Fusion Programme (Fusion for Energy -F4E) at the 14-MeV Frascati neutron generator (FNG) of ENEA Frascati with the objective to validate the copper nuclear cross-section data relevant for ITER design calculations, including the related uncertainties. A detailed evaluation of the experimental configuration, measurement system and results was performed for the SINBAD database with a particular focus on a realistic, complete and consistent estimation of uncertainties involved in the measurements and the calculations. Several input models for Monte Carlo (MCNP-5, -6) and deterministic (DORT) transport and sensitivity/uncertainty (SUSD3D) codes are provided using both very detailed and simplified geometry models and different neutron source modelling. To facilitate the use of the experimental data for nuclear data validation and improvement, the SINBAD compilation includes the energy dependent sensitivity profiles of the detector reaction rates with respect to the underlying cross-section data. The evaluation is to serve as an example to promote further SINBAD evaluations with the message that the benchmark experiment is not completed when the measurements are done, but only when all the detailed analysis is performed including the uncertainty assessment, and the complete information is preserved and stored for future use by the international community. Background: Information specialists frequently translate search filters from one interface to another. Publications advise that translation can be complex and should be undertaken carefully. Objectives: To investigate the issues arising when translating the Cochrane Embase RCT search filter from one interface (Ovid) to another (Embase.com). Methods: We drafted a translation of the Cochrane Ovid RCT filter to run in Embase.com. We compared the line‐by‐line results of the Ovid filter with the results of the translation. We revised the filter. We identified differences between database versions including records with different publication years and subject headings. Some records were in Embase in one interface but not in the other. We encountered expected interface differences relating to proximity operators. We also encountered unexpected interface issues around truncation and the use of the original title or original abstract field. Discussion: Filter conversion is challenging and time consuming revealing unexpected differences in interfaces and databases. Careful planning can pre‐empt some issues, but others may only emerge during testing. We identified interface anomalies that have led database publishers to review aspects of the way their interfaces work. Conclusions: Translators should be vigilant for known and unknown differences in both interfaces and database versions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this work, a speaker identification system is proposed which employs two feature extraction models, namely: the power normalized cepstral coefficients and the mel frequency cepstral coefficients. Both features are subjected to acoustic modeling using a Gaussian mixture model–universal background model. The purpose of this work is to provide a thorough evaluation of the effect of different types of noise on the speaker identification accuracy (SIA) and thereby providing benchmark figures for future comparative studies. In particular, the additive white Gaussian noise and eight non-stationary noise types (with and without the G.712 type handset) corresponding to various signal to noise ratios are tested. Fusion strategies are also employed using late fusion methods: maximum, weighted sum, and mean fusion. The measurements of randomly selected 120 speakers from the TIMIT database are employed and the SIA is used to measure the system performance. The weighted sum fusion resulted in the best performance in terms of SIA with noisy speech. Background: A specific sequence for psoriasis (PsO) therapy has not been defined. Objectives: This retrospective, observational cohort study characterized pathways of PsO treatment over 3 years for newly diagnosed patients initially treated with a topical medication. Methods: Adult PsO patients from the Explorys database (March 1 2011 to June 30 2015) were grouped according to medication-use patterns: 1) discontinued therapy; 2) topical therapy only; 3) switched/added an oral agent; and 4) switched/added a biologic agent. Results: Of 6875 patients, 907 (13.2%) discontinued treatment; 2544 (37.0%) used topical only, and 3319 (45.7%) and 819 (11.9%) switched/added-on an oral and/or biologic agent, respectively. Patients progressed to biologic treatment faster than to oral agents (median 254 vs. 378 d; p <.0001). Using an oral agent before a biologic significantly delayed biologic initiation compared to progressing to biologic directly from topical (median 456 vs. 90 d; p <.0001). Limitations: Disease severity and the reason for treatment transitions were not assessed. Conclusions: Patients initiating topical PsO treatment progressed to biologics faster than to oral agent using an oral agent prior to a biologic significantly delayed biologic initiation. Diffusion MRI is being used increasingly in studies of the brain and other parts of the body for its ability to provide quantitative measures that are sensitive to changes in tissue microstructure. However, inter-scanner and inter-protocol differences are known to induce significant measurement variability, which in turn jeopardises the ability to obtain 'truly quantitative measures' and challenges the reliable combination of different datasets. Combining datasets from different scanners and/or acquired at different time points could dramatically increase the statistical power of clinical studies, and facilitate multi-centre research. Even though careful harmonisation of acquisition parameters can reduce variability, inter-protocol differences become almost inevitable with improvements in hardware and sequence design over time, even within a site. In this work, we present a benchmark diffusion MRI database of the same subjects acquired on three distinct scanners with different maximum gradient strength (40, 80, and 300 mT/m), and with 'standard' and 'state-of-the-art' protocols, where the latter have higher spatial and angular resolution. The dataset serves as a useful testbed for method development in cross-scanner/cross-protocol diffusion MRI harmonisation and quality enhancement. Using the database, we compare the performance of five different methods for estimating mappings between the scanners and protocols. The results show that cross-scanner harmonisation of single-shell diffusion data sets can reduce the variability between scanners, and highlight the promises and shortcomings of today's data harmonisation techniques. • A benchmarking database for diffusion MRI data harmonisation is presented. • The same 14 healthy controls were scanned on 3 scanners with 5 acquisition protocols. • 5 harmonisation algorithms are compared for two tasks. • 1) matched resolution scanner-to-scanner mapping, 2) spatial and angular resolution enhancement. • Cross-scanner harmonisation can reduce the variability between scanners and protocols. Among the agents related to cases of intoxication are products for veterinary use. In view of the problems generated by this aggravation, the present study sought to present the epidemiological profile of cases of intoxication by veterinary products notified in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, from 2007 to 2017, using as basis for the evaluation the database of DATASUS and SINAN notification record. Poisoning by veterinary products is a public health problem, so it is necessary to adopt prophylactic measures and strategies, mainly to subsidize the population most susceptible to these poisonings. Design processes nowadays rely more and more on automated optimisation methods to shorten the development cycle. Within those optimisation methods, gradient-free ones converge slower but rather to a global optimum, while gradient-based methods converge faster to a local optimum. Quite recently gradient-free methods have been assisted by metamodels to improve their convergence and gradient-based methods are making use of adjoints to speed up the gradient evaluation. In this article, we compare an adjoint-assisted gradient-based and a metamodel-assisted gradient-free method with respect to convergence, local/global optima and especially the computational time. On a constrained multipoint aerodynamic optimisation of a turbine inlet vane, gradient-based and gradient-free methods reached 22% and 24%, respectively, of total pressure loss reduction. The metamodel-assisted method reached a 2% higher objective value at double the cost of flow evaluations, an additional cost related mainly to the evaluation of an initial database.
