DARIAH-CH goes on atourof Swiss higher education institutionsto inform about its mission and activitiesand makes a stop at the EPFL & UNIL on June 7th!The event provides an ideal opportunity to discover the European“Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities”DARIAH,and its Swissbranch,DARIAH-CH.Switzerland is currently an observer of DARIAH and it will become a full member in June 2023. DARIAH’s mission is toempower research communities with digital methods to create, connect and share knowledge about culture and society. To reach this goal, DARIAH develops the following areas: (ii) training and education, (ii) working groups, (iii) tools and services, (iv) network, (v) sharing of knowledge, (vi) publishing, and (vii) a discovery platform for Social Sciences and Humanities. DARIAH-CH isa consortium of research institutions that aims at bringing together the SwissDigital Humanities and Arts communities and supporting them in their research and infrastructural endeavours. By getting actively involved inDARIAH-CH andDARIAHEurope, Swiss scholars benefit not only from an increased visibility of their assets (research projects, data, tools, methodologies, expertise, etc.) but also from a better access to Europeaninfrastructures and networks. Members of the consortium also profit from a greater involvement in European collaborative research projects, and from the access to numerous funding opportunities (workshops, summer schools,publishinggrants, etc.).

In this poster, researchers from different projects present the integration of existingTEI-encoded corpora into a repository and analysis infrastructure, as well as the benefits of this integration. The focus is not on resource creation (corpus design or text encoding), but on infrastructure integration, dissemination and re-use of existing resources. The NFDI consortium Text+ seeks the integration of already existing resources, for example through the publication of corpora in repositories. We present the publication of the corpora of the European Literary Text Collection in the TextGrid Repository, discuss their characteristics and the advantages of this integration. The poster was accepted and presented at the DH2023 conference in Graz.

With these guidelines we explain how to add Tools & Services as DARIAH National Resources into the SSH Open Marketplace. The DARIAH National Coordinators Committee agreed on therecommendations. These guidelines can also be used for other national infrastructure consortia to manage and represent their tools and services for the community in an open and collaborative way.This represents a living document, that is subject to updated versions as practices change and the SSH Open Marketplace evolves.

This talk outlines a vision for Common European Data Spaces, proposed by the European Commission, where FAIR principles (Wilkinson et al. 2016) and FAIR Digital Objects (FDOs) (De Smedt et al. 2020, Schwardmann 2020) can play a role in bringing together research infrastructures, data aggregators and other stakeholders working with curated objects in museums, herbaria, libraries and archives. The organisations and stakeholders involved represent a wide range of disciplines and data types including biodiversity, ecology, anthropology, archaeology, cultural history, digital storytelling, art conservation, and history of science among others (ICEDIG 2020, Ortolja-Baird and Nyhan 2021). The context and the history of the curated objects also span the natural sciences and cultural heritage domains (Nadim 2021, Weber 2021). Despite this heterogeneity, various common themes in the area of digital curation, open access, and data usage (Tasovac et al. 2020) appear where FDOs and Common European Data Spaces can be a useful venue for supporting the European Strategy for Data. In particular, FDOs, as an abstraction mechanism to structure and describe digital artefacts from a specific domain yet at the same time provide interoperability (De Smedt et al. 2020), can help realise the vision behind a common data space to “bring together relevant data infrastructures and governance frameworks in order to facilitate data pooling and sharing” (European Commission 2022:2). A May 2022 report on the challenges and opportunities of European Common Data Spaces highlights the following points: Open data holders have extensive experience in data publishing, metadata management, data quality, dataset discovery, data federation, as well as tried-and-tested standards (e.g. DCAT) and technologies. There seems to be very little knowledge/technology transfer from the open data community to the data spaces community, which is a missed opportunity. Data space implementations should not reinvent wheels that the open data community has already developed, tested, and used extensively. Whether the data is private, shared, or open, using data from multiple sources requires interoperability at several levels, from identifiers to vocabularies. The question of which data intermediaries will act as neutral agents to ensure interoperability is underexplored in the data space context. Public administrations, building on their experience of publishing open data, are best placed to take on such roles Building on previous conversations facilitated by DiSSCo, DARIAH, Europeana, and Archives Portal Europe Foundation, (Europeana Conference 2021, DARIAH Annual Event 2022), this talk will address the above points from the perspective of bringing together the domains of natural history museums, cultural heritage, and digital humanities. Within our collaboration, we have identified several common areas such as data discoverability, linking, and providing contextual information, which align with the goal of FDO implementation. DiSSCo and DARIAH as European infrastructures, on the one hand, and Europeana and Archives Portal as data aggregators, on the other hand, are involved in improving access to data and the researchers' capacity to work with heterogeneous data sources. One of the biggest shared challenges across the diverse workflows in the arts and humanities and natural history domains is that the data curation processes form a natural continuum between a range of different actors working either in cultural heritage institutions or in academia. In reality, these different layers of curation, enrichment and analysis are separated by legal, institutional, infrastructural and even funding silos (as in many countries, these institutions belong to different ministries, and fall under different legislative frameworks). How can this continuum, from a scholarly point of view, be supported within common data space and FDO framework? At the same time, implementing a common data space requires not just interoperability but stewardship and strategy for sharing resources (Keller 2021). The data infrastructure and FAIR related activities explored in our collaboration are of strategic importance to help Europe and the rest of the world deal with important societal issues. Therefore, bringing this collaboration within the context of FDO provides an ideal avenue to explore potential data, policy, and implementation matters, in order to address the two gaps outlined above for Common Data Spaces. Furthermore, the ideas expressed in Common European Data Space for Cultural Heritage (with Europeana as the core stakeholder) and Green Deal Data Spaces need further clarification concerning implementation planning and most importantly, how multiple commons would work together. With DARIAH coming from the humanities and DiSSCo from the natural sciences side, such collaborations and synergy should align with the Common Data Spaces vision. The philosophy and ideas behind data and digital commons are not new (Fuchs 2020, Kashwan et al. 2021). However, it is crucial to contextualise the implementation strategy and benefits within data intensive, multidisciplinary research and FAIR principles. Given that curated objects are informational resources for the researchers, but can also provide contexts, and make visible the relationships between artefacts, people, publications, organisations, provenance, and events, it is important to think of them as much more than just records in a database. Additionally, FDOs as the digital representations of the curated objects have the potential of fostering cross-disciplinary collaborations (such as between biology, history, art or anthropology) and of providing a wider lens for understanding materiality and the role of data (Ribes 2019). As interdisciplinarity and data-driven foci are gaining traction via applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning, it is vital to understand what FDO adoption and implementation can contribute to common data spaces. We believe FDOs can be a successful foundation for Common European Data Spaces because they can can connect multiple commons -- from Green Deal to Cultural Heritage -- in order to drive forward the vision for interdisciplinary collaboration.

Introduction Frank Fischer The European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), officially launched in November 2018, is an initiative of the European Commission aiming to develop an infrastructure that makes access to scientific data easier and more efficient and is geared towards open science. The planned infrastructure bundles services of different providers and is following a system-of-systems approach. Under the Horizon 2020 framework programme, five cluster projects from the sciences are being funded to connect research communities of different fields to the EOSC. One of these projects is SSHOC – the Social Sciences and Humanities Open Cloud. The five European Research Infrastructure Consortia CESSDA, CLARIN, DARIAH, ESS and SHARE as well as twenty other European partner institutions have come together to connect their communities to the EOSC via SSHOC. In this panel, we will discuss its emerging role for the Digital Humanities and related fields and the different facets needed to design, coordinate and operate this domain-specific infrastructure and cloud. We will have five speakers talk about the following topics: The SSH Open Marketplace – Contextualised practical knowledge for day-to-day research in the Digital Humanities Edward Gray Tool directories and discovery portals have a long history in the Digital Humanities. There is a clear demand for them in the community but their sustainability beyond project fundings and their collective maintenance is challenging (Dombrowski, 2019; Edmond, 2016). In the enabling EOSC environment, in which research and data infrastructures find a suitable framework to provide research services, DARIAH, CLARIN and CESSDA are developing the SSH Open Marketplace, accessible at https://marketplace.sshopencloud.eu/, a new take on discovery platforms for tools, services, training materials, datasets and digital workflows (Kálmán et al., 2019). While crowd-based maintenance of content is one of the only ways to ensure the quality of a "social marketplace for services" (Blanke, 2011), the SSH Open Marketplace relies on a set of rewards and incentives and a small, but funded, editorial team in order to avoid pure volunteer work of its contributors. The Sharing of Services and Data Between SSH Infrastructures Daan Broeder By sharing infrastructure resources we gain considerable advantages: (1) scaling advantage: increasing the potential use and impact of (expensive) datasets and maximizing the investment needed for developing services and (2) offering SSH researchers new choices and opportunities with regards to data creation and analysis. This concerns not only newly created services and datasets, e.g. the SSH Open Marketplace, but also existing resources which were prepared to serve a wider audience. Within the SSHOC project, a couple of services originally developed for the CLARIN community were generalised to address additional user scenarios and provide new functionalities. Recommendations and tools for creating and managing SSH vocabularies were aligned through an SSH Vocabulary Commons initiative. SSHOC also provided an opportunity for new and emerging communities to discover and investigate what and how already established communities have arranged their infrastructure and what is useful for them. Data Repository/Service Certification Mari Kleemola FAIR data (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) is essential for the success of the EOSC but demand for high quality and FAIR data and metadata is global. However, the FAIR principles do not take into account the inevitable changes in the data environment and in the needs of data users. Any digital system that accepts, stores and provides access to data can be termed a 'digital repository' in the broadest sense. Only an organisation that meets clear criteria, including the provision of active long-term preservation measures for a designated community, can be termed a “trustworthy digital repository”. Trustworthy digital repositories play a key role in enabling data to become and remain FAIR over time within all disciplines, including SSH. Reaching FAIRness and Trustworthiness is a journey that requires expertise, investment and cooperation. Many actors and multiple tiers of data storage, protection and preservation are needed to address the long tail of at-risk data and metadata. Setting standards and pass/fail criteria is not sufficient; compliance with trustworthiness standards is best supported by community efforts such as repository certification through CoreTrustSeal, existing coordination networks for digital repositories in disciplinary contexts and other global, regional and national networks. Technology and Services Carsten Thiel Research Infrastructures are increasingly digital, providing virtual access to resources at physical places like libraries and archives. Developing the technology that makes this possible is a fundamental part of building modern infrastructures and enabling interdisciplinary research requires interoperability on the technical level. But delivering added value to the researcher requires more than bare technology. In collaboration across disciplines, both within the SSHOC project and the wider EOSC landscape, the focus has shifted towards the service layer, combining tools with training and support into a complete package that addresses end user needs. As domain infrastructures, CESSDA, CLARIN and DARIAH are uniquely positioned between researchers, resources and tools to process them in order to sustainably ensure open research. EOSC FUTURE – Connecting Scientific Projects to EOSC Core Services Sally Chambers To connect thematic services to the EOSC basic agnostic components are needed. The EOSC Architecture provides the so-called EOSC-Core layer offering fundamental building blocks such as an AAI (Authentication and Authorization Infrastructure), Helpdesk and Monitoring. By easily integrating these core services, science projects benefit from an interoperable and more stable infrastructural environment. The domain-oriented cluster projects are at the crossroads between agnostic service providers and research communities to overcome the "last mile challenge" (Koureas, 2016) and build mid-level tools and platforms that serve the needs of individual research communities (Lamanna, 2021). On 7 June 2022, ENLIGHT RISE arranged a workshop on Digital Research Infrastructures with focus on the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). Speakers from GÉANT as well as Ghent University, University of Göttingen and Uppsala University elaborated on engagement opportunities with the EOSC from perspectives such as life sciences, OpenAIRE, national research infrastructures and SSH. The workshop report is available on the ENLIGHT website.

In the context of sharing knowledge, “stories” have long played an important role, especially in the field of cultural heritage, where available collections can tell endless stories to their audiences. Nowadays, an enormous amount of information is accessible to everyone and in every moment. It is therefore necessary to optimize the use of tools made available by technological innovation and to set up systems for the transmission of knowledge that can get people closer to the world of culture, too often seen as antiquated and specialized, and that can provide additional value to any artistic and cultural initiative. With the advent of the Semantic Web, large amounts of structured and interconnected data related to various and different kinds of resources in scientific domains have become freely available. Cultural heritage institutions also produce great quantities of data, generating links and therefore enabling connections in a linked open data context. Linked Open Data are the sources from which data scientists can extract the relevant knowledge to engine stories and create visual representation of copious amounts of information to be presented to the public. However, this process should involve both CH/SSH specialists and data analysts. In fact, data without context can’t tell any story and result neither understandable nor interesting; both the theoretical knowledge of the resources and the mathematical introspection are required to create a successful and truthful story. The RESTORE (smart access for digital heritage and memory) project will be presented in this contribution to demonstrate the approach used to manage data from multiple contexts for application in an integrated environment.The aim of the project is to develop good praxis and contents for the innovative use of historical documentation in a multidisciplinary environment, promoting understanding and encouraging its re-use by researchers, operators active on cultural and creative industries and citizens (citizen science). The data management methods implemented by the project make it possible to enable collections of data to describe a story, only through these processes it is possible to tell stories that otherwise would not be told. The project consortium, coordinated by the Istituto Opera del Vocabolario Italiano of the Italian CNR (National Research Council of Italy), includes national Cultural Heritage institutes, such as the State Archives and the Museum of Palazzo Pretorio in Prato and the Archival and Bibliographic Superintendency of Tuscany, and the SPACE SpA software company. The project - co-financed by the Regione Toscana - has its main purpose in the recovery, integration and accessibility of data and digital objects collected by partner, in order to build a knowledge base made of information regarding the history of the city and of its civic institutions, the development of its economic and entrepreneurial system, the role of women in the development of a welfare state and network. Starting a local history approach, it is nonetheless possible to broaden the focus from the local dimension to reconstruct a significant part of the history of European and Mediterranean cities of the 14th century, including commercial and economical aspects.

Humanities is in all its tasks and activities a storytelling. In her 1958 essayThe Modern Concept of History, Hannah Arendt was recognizing the first face-to-face meeting between history and poetics in a scene told by Homer: Ulysses, the witness, cries by listening the blind bard Demodocos narrating his own deeds during the war of Troy (Arendt, 1958). But Ulysses stops Demodocos’ storytelling as a “too perfect” song,liên kata kosmon(Hartog, 2003;Odysseus8.487-491). If Humanities has been since centuries written asstorytelling, from literature to philosophy passing through history, this paper argues that research infrastructures are nowadays the necessary and unperfect witnesses that keep the Humanities storytelling anchoraged in the physical and real world. Research infrastructures (RIs) are anonymous Ulysses standing up and claiming attention, efforts and sweat, whereas scholars would like to just sing a brilliant storytelling.RIs are Humanities storytellers, as illustrated by the three following examples. The first one is the Sisyphus temptation for Humanist scholars to publishcorporaon virtual research environments (VREs). As well argued (Pierazzo, 2015), the notion of printed edition is evolving towards digitalcollections, that remain open-ended but stop when time and/or resources are missing (Mombert, 2014). Leadings to the creation of collections, the VREs are deeply reshaping the established textual categories (Clivaz, 2016). Morevoer, VREs are producing Humanities stories often before the proper scholarly narration ((Strackpole, 2020), whereas in printed books, authors can and have to choose the starting point, the conclusion, and the intermediate steps.RIs are open-ended and efficient storytellers. Secondly, the knowledge hierarchies of the modernepistemeare also largely reshaped by the VREs. Until the fifties at least, the study of Latin and Greek was mandatory even in the studies of medicine, a phenomenon entitled in Frenchfaire ses humanities(Berra, 2012). The spreading of research infrastructures has apparently sealed the reign of English, but this phenomenon also brings benefits. The beloved Latin and Greek heritage are now accessible to a non-elitist public, thanks to the web serendipity, or in crowd-sourcing projects. Moreover, other ancient languages, often let aside in Humanities, are raising up: forgotten words, rare languages can be read online.RIs are Open Science storytellers, as promoted by the EOSC-A spirit. Finally, big research infrastructures are reshaping Humanities storytelling by creating narrative human networks: the lonely work of the 19thcentury scholar at the desk is definitively over. DARIAH is in this regard a clear example of the emergence of Humanities communities: designed in summer 2013 around four Virtual Competence Centers (VCCs), –according to a repartition between “hardware” infrastructure (VCC1), teaching (VCC2), research (VCC3) and community (VCC4)–, DARIAH is evolving since the last years in plural living networks – the working groups (WGs). Digitalno okružje koje nudi digitalna humanistika omogućuje upravo veću dostupnost gradiva i transparentnu vizualizaciju njegova nastanka, kao i dosadašnje i potencijalne buduće primjene, te se zasniva na konceptu otvorenog pristupa (open access). Nadalje, kako bi se ostvarila spomenuta cirkulacija, interoperabilnost i široka međunarodna primjenjivost, teži se standardizaciji e-infrastrukture i modela za opisivanje podataka. Na europskoj i svjetskoj razini postoji mreža srodnih konzorcija i udruženja kao što su DARIAH (Digitalna istraživačka infrastruktura za umjetnost i humanistiku), CLARIN (Zajednički jezični resurs i tehnološka infrastruktura), CESSDA (Arhiv podataka za društvene znanosti), EOSC (Europski oblak za otvorenu znanost) i sl. Takva udruženja otvorena su i za nove članove, odnosno daljnje širenje u skladu s brzorastućim spoznajama informacijskih i komunikacijskih znanosti te s potrebama u znanosti i umjetnosti, a omogućuju sveobuhvatan pregled digitalnohumanističkih usluga i pristup istima.

AKM zajednica gotovo da je od samih početaka informatizacije društva uključena u proces digitalne transformacije. Prateći promjene, osluškujući trendove te zahtjeve svojih korisnika i u Hrvatskoj je relativno davno prepoznata nužnost “suradnje arhiva, knjižnica i muzeja kako bi korisnik mogao dobiti što potpuniji, točniji i kompetentniji odgovor na svoj upit jedinstvenim, koherentnim pristupom različitim izvorima podataka“ (Mirna Willer, https://akm.hkdrustvo.hr/o-akm-u/). Informatička je revolucija istovremeno, dakako, utjecala i na znanstvenu zajednicu koja se također morala prilagoditi promjenama. U 21. stoljeću intenzivno su se počele formirati istraživačke e- infrastrukture te odvijati virtualno umrežavanje znanstvenika radi međusobne suradnje i potpore u cilju lakšeg držanja koraka s promjenama. Tako je, uz parolu “istraživači istraživačima”, formiran i DARIAH konzorcij (Digitalna istraživačka infrastruktura za humanistiku i umjetnost). VIše možda nego bilo kojem drugom području znanosti, humanistima, odnosno zajednici istraživača okupljenih u DARIAH mreži, dragocjena je suradnja s AKM sektorom. Digitalna humanistika bez digitalnih knjižnica, arhiva i muzeja ne može se u potpunosti ostvariti. Suodnos DARIAH-a i AKM zajednice neminovan je i međusobno podržavajući, na što ukazuju i brojni već provedeni projekti i ostvarene suradnje koji će biti predstavljeni u izlaganju. Također će biti dane preporuke i smjernice za još dinamičniji i kvalitetniji suodnos AKM-a i DARIAH-a.

Izlaganjem su se prezentirale tekuće i projektne aktivnosti koje je DARIAH-HR samostalno ili u suradnji s partnerima provodio tijekom 2022. godine.

Izlaganje predstavlja DARIAH-HR digitalnu istraživačku infrastrukturu za umjetnost i humanističke znanosti te pobliže opisuje procese diseminacije putem društvenih mreža.

Slides presented at DARIAH-HR "Digital Humanities and Heritage" Conference on 15 October, 2021. (https://dhh.dariah.hr/en/home/) DARIAH is a European research infrastructure consortium (ERIC), dedicated to the arts and humanities. Founded in 2014, it has been a leader in promoting and enabling arts and humanities research as scholars confront the realities of research in a digital age. During this talk, we will examine how DARIAH is organized, and how this organization helps the consortium complete its missions of empowering arts and humanities researchers across Europe, and beyond. Particular attention will be paid to the ways in which different national DARIAH consortia, such as DARIAH-HR, are organized and interact with their national communities as a facilitator of digital arts and humanities research. Indeed, each Member country of DARIAH forms its own national consortium, which adapts to the needs and particularities of its communities in order to better serve them. This diversity is the strength of DARIAH, allowing for flexibility, though the commitment to our overall missions and values remains the same. After seven years of existence, DARIAH is coming into a phase of maturity, where exchanges between national nodes, as well as with the DARIAH Coordination Office and other European-level DARIAH bodies, allow for more integrated coordination between DARIAH nodes and a greater participation in our activities. This presentation will detail this new, dawning era for DARIAH by providing concrete examples of what DARIAH can and has done for arts and humanities research. These actions span from training and education efforts, to financial support, engagement in European research projects such as H2020 and Horizon Europe, logistical aid, and creating a space where researchers can meet and exchange.

TheSSH Open Marketplace(https://marketplace.sshopencloud.eu/), built as part of the Social Sciences and Humanities Open Cloud (SSHOC) project, is a discovery portal for the SSH research community comprising tools & services, training materials, datasets, publications and workflows. Designed as a catalogue contextualising its resources by creating links between them and showcasing their use in research scenarios (workflows), the interfaces of the SSH Open Marketplace are crucial for the discovery and reusability of its content. How does one build convenient, reliable, and accurate interfaces for a discovery portal? Which audiences (human, machines) and technologies have to be addressed by the interfaces and in which priority? What does it mean to be user-friendly for a web service in the world of research infrastructures? Three interface dimensions will guide our presentation of the beta version of the SSH Open Marketplace: The human individual interface dimension or user experience (UX) design and user interface (UI) (Graphical User Interface:https://marketplace.sshopencloud.eu/): SSH Open Marketplace is built to be a user-friendly portal designed on the principles of Human Center Designed (HCD) for the SSH community, with a low entry threshold for users' contributions. The design of the SSH Open Marketplace, developed by the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Centre (PSNC) and implemented by the Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities and Cultural Heritage (ACDH-CH), has been built consulting target user communities. But still we seek for further feedback from the attendees of the demo session to identify possible improvements. The machine-readable interface dimension or REST Application Programming Interface (API documentation: https://s.gwdg.de/pymPIp): the SSH Open Marketplace includes a REST API allowing experienced users to search and retrieve detailed information and even to add information. Particularly the last aspect would be of interest as to discuss how to provide easy means for adding new content to the marketplace using its API, which would likely be of interest for institutional users. A hackathon relying on some of the API functions is planned for September 2021, and our demo will also allow attendees to gain an overview of the hackathon tasks or to announce interest in taking part. The social-structural interface dimensions or gateway for SSH resources in the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC):https://marketplace.eosc-portal.eu/:the SSH Open Marketplace is a contribution to the SSH branch of the EOSC, and as such it can be seen as a communication interface between the EOSC, its infrastructures and the SSH research communities interested in digital methods and practices.&nbsp

How can researchers identify suitable research data repositories for the deposit of their research data? Which repository matches best the technical and legal requirements of a specific research project? For this end and with a humanities perspective the Data Deposit Recommendation Service (DDRS) has been developed as a prototype. It not only serves as a functional service for selecting humanities research data repositories but it is particularly a technical demonstrator illustrating the potential of re-using an already existing infrastructure - in this case re3data - and the feasibility to set up this kind of service for other research disciplines. CLARIAH-DE as merger of the national research infrastructures CLARIN-D and DARIAH-DE faces integration challenges on various levels: cultural, technological, structural. This presentation examines the technological level by highlighting examples with a technological or infrastructural background. We distinguish three levels of integration when looking at CLARIAH-DE: The basic infrastructure components, such as AAI, helpdesk or monitoring. The application integration, where tools, having a background in one of both projects, are connected with relevant applications of the other. And finally the data integration, where we look at the subject-specific searches in detail. The level of infrastructure components often predetermines the outcomes, e.g. AAI, helpdesk have worked out really well, application integration is case-dependent, data integration is difficult. We detail the last category by taking a closer look at merging the subject-specific searches in CLARIN-D and DARIAH-DE, explain taken choices made, taking the legacies of both CLARIN-D and DARIAH-DE into account and try to relate to the European arena (ERICs, EOSC, SSHOC) as well. For all categories, one has to differentiate between maintainer- or provider-related outcomes and user- or research-related outcomes. What should be the priority of any research infrastructure: to consider the potential trade offs between user/researcher related goals and provider goals. We stress, that in case of doubt, the researchers' objectives have to stand in the focus. The self-concept of CLARIAH-DE is important in this regard: a data centre comes with other resources, knowledge, motives as a research institution; a research infrastructure - like CLARIAH-DE - is something in between. We discuss whether this is an advantage or disadvantage or both. Cilj je ovoga izlaganja prikazati proces osnutka, temeljna načela i djelatnost, odnosno projekte međunarodne DARIAH-EU radne skupine Theatralia za teatrologiju i digitalizaciju teatralija.

Na europskom su tlu posljednjih desetljeća, uz poticaj Europske komisije, niknule brojne istraživačke infrastrukture, među kojima i DARIAH- ERIC. DARIAH je zamišljen kao organizacija koja će povezivati istraživače iz područja humanističkih znanosti i umjetnosti, omogućiti im lakše snalaženje u digitalnom okruženju te osigurati razmjenu znanja, digitalnih izvora, alata i metoda u maniri otvorene znanosti. U ovom će izlaganju ukratko biti predstavljena organizacija i djelovanje konzorcija na europskoj razini te biti pružen osvrt na nacionalne razine, gdje se dopušta prilagodba potrebama i posebnostima u zemljama članicama. Predstavit će se misija i vizija, odnosno vrijednosti koje zastupa ova organizacija, utemeljena na filozofiji ““by researchers for researchers””.

Prikaz prve međunarodne DARIAH-HR konferencije Digital Humanities & Heritage, koja se održala u Zadru 13. - 15. listopada 2021.

The Theatralia Working Group focuses on analyzing the challenges that arise from the digitization of various theatrical aspects. It also works on identifying the best standards and practices in digital theatrical registries. This Open Meeting introduces the Working Group and its members to the community. It also outlines the results of a past workshop that aimed to educate the theater workers on new digital practices in the theater. Finally, the discussion will be focused on the methodology for the Working Group's upcoming work on the international theater registry in 2022.

Theatralia is a DARIAH-EU Working Group dedicated to observing complex relations which arise from the usage of digital tools and technologies in theatrical production, theatre research and theatrical archives management. Furthermore, it aims to provide education on digital tools and services that are useful to performance scholars and practitioners working in the above-mentioned fields. The Theatralia Working Group was officially approved by the DARIAH-EU in May 2021 with Anamarija Žugić Borić (DARIAH-HR) in her capacity as the Chair and professor Tihomir Živić (The Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek) in his capacity as the Co-Chair. However, the initial idea of the working group was presented in 2018 at the DARIAH Theatre Forum in Osijek, Croatia. The main impetus for the establishment of such a working community was the fact that there de facto isn’t any extant infrastructure in Theatre and Performance Studies that would support, promote, and assess digital humanities projects (Caplan, 2015, p. 348). This difficulty is doubled by the still prevailing traditionalist viewpoint of many theatre scholars, which are focused on the notion of theatre as a monolithic structure that consistently performs the repertoire it had previously established. The other serious predicament is the fact that the rigid organizational schema as seen in theatre also translates to academia. As theatre workers in this concept of theatre predominantly carry out work tasks that are affiliated with their profession, theatre scholars and digital humanities scholars are isolated from each other through the organization of academic knowledge that is divided into disciplines and fields with strict boundaries (Tuhiwai Smith, 2012, cited in Cowan, 2018, p. 650). On the other hand, many scholars highlight the inherent kinship between computer technology and performing arts (Laurel, 1991 ; Saltz, 1997, cited in Saltz, 2008, p. 336), underlining their shared concepts of make-believe and virtual reality (think of Artaud in 1958) (Saltz, 2008, p. 336), as well as mediation, liveness, ephemerality, spectatorship and collaboration (Caplan, 2015, p. 349). This epistemological shift is evident in the slowly arising notion of (digital) scholarship as performative work that abandons the dominance of text and its previous secondary position to the primary source. In other words, digital scholars’ work looks increasingly like art (Caplan, 2015, p. 349). Accordingly, the prevalent concept of Theatre Studies is slowly being replaced by that of Performance Studies. The spotlight thus turns on theatrical performance as an event, i.e. performativity as a unique occurrence of an act in a specific place and moment. This is where the intangible aspect of a theatrical performance, which has been seriously neglected for a long time in the work of theatre scholars and archival experts, assumes greater importance. Hence the objective of Theatralia is to take into account the intangible cultural heritage aspect while blurring the boundaries between digital humanities and theatre scholars, as well as different performance disciplines. One of Theatralia’s first projects is to co-create a digital ecosystem for performing arts (DEPA) that will, as stated in the 2021 COST Action proposal, deploy the linked data technology in operative systems across the performing arts sector, the heritage sector, digital humanities and in adjacent areas. The main proposer of the project is professor Beat Estermann from the Bern University of Applied Sciences. The initiative should provide one step forward towards implementing the interdisciplinary approach in Theatre and Performance Studies, at the same time getting closer to the renouncement of text as the sacred product of scholarly research in favor of a more performative approach. Načela otvorene znanosti utkana su u samu bit i način funkcioniranja DARIAH konzorcija i svrha njegova postojanja je razmjena znanja, ideja i podataka između znanstvenika. DARIAH stoga nastoji ostvariti partnerstva i pozicionirati se unutar mreže europskih, ali i globalnih aktera na području otvorene znanosti.

U ovome će izlaganju biti predstavljeni konkretni primjeri DARIAH-ovih dosadašnjih te aktualnih projekata i aktivnosti. DARIAH je postao središte europske istraživačke mreže u području humanističkih znanosti te kroz svoje aktivnosti i projekte u koje je uključen okuplja i podržava druge srodne mreže i inicijative. Zainteresirane ustanove i pojedinci u znanstvenom, obrazovnom, IT i/ili baštinskom sektoru svojim uključenjem u DARIAH mogu imati višestruke koristi: od dobivanja logističke pomoći i prostora u kojem se članovi mogu sastajati i razmjenjivati znanja i ideje, preko niza treninga i edukacija, do angažmana u istraživačkim projektima kao što su H2020 i Horizon Europe te financijske potpore.

Die Perspektive einzelner Fachcommunitys auf die Angebote langjährig bestehender Forschungsdateninfrastrukturen wie DARIAH-DE ist besonders im Rahmen der Nationalen Forschungsdatenindrastruktur (NFDI) entscheidend. Hier wird auf die Historie von DARIAH-DE zu CLARIAH und die Verbindung zur NFDI eingegangen sowie einige Angebote exemplarisch präsentiert.

Services are one of the defining elements for research infrastructures, but how to define a service is less clear. In the broadest sense any support for research practices at different stages (as described in the Scholarly Primitives) can be perceived as a service. If we follow the definition of research infrastructures as knowledge infrastructures [1] than both support of the staff working in and with the infrastructure and all the equipment they work with potentially count as service. In DARIAH's strategic plan, services are defined exactly in this broad sense. As DARIAH pillars via which services are provided we find the Marketplace; Working groups; Foresight; and Education/Training [2]. In each of the pillars the provision of the service materialises by a combination of IT based components and other forms of support (such as enabling activities, knowledge exchange, network activities, funding etc.). What is further agreed upon is that (a) research infrastructures for post-modern research are usually distributed, networked structures and that (b) research infrastructures follow a complex architecture with different roles, stakeholders and perspectives involved [3]. For the daily practice of an ERIC as DARIAH is it important to shape a shared understanding how the high-level definition of the services (DARIAH pillar's) translates into concrete services as build in member countries (DARIAH contributions), by projects (pilots of services), in Working groups, and other actors inside of DARIAH (as by participating institutions). This paper explores different ways to define and order services, applying different dimensions (such as geographic spread, addressed knowledge domain, maturity, envisioned audience, etc.). We start from existing definitions of services as for the European Open Science Cloud, or IT services in general, zoom into current DARIAH-wide applied definitions (as from projects such as HaS, DESIR and SSHOC), and test them with existing services (as propagated via the DARIAH website, or collected in the DARIAH contribution tool). By a clearer understanding of the different nature of services we aim to support decision of what services to foster, innovate, and maintain on which level, by which means, and in which time frame. The DDRS - or Data Deposit Recommendation Service - recommends research data repositories to humanities researchers searching for deposit services for their research data, which comply to criteria such as PIDs, funders’ requirements, disciplinary scope or language preferences. The presentation shows the DDRS as re3data use case and explains how the relation between the web service (DDRS) and re3data for the information retrieval is implemented. OPERAS is a Research Infrastructure supporting open scholarly communication in the social sciences and humanities (SSH) in the European Research Area. Its mission is to coordinate and to federate resources in Europe to efficiently address the scholarly communication needs of European researchers in the field of SSH. OPERAS aim is to make Open Science a reality for research in the SSH. We want to achieve a scholarly communication system where knowledge produced in the SSH benefits researchers, academics, and students fully and widely, and where it also benefits the whole society across Europe and worldwide. In doing so, OPERAS, also thanks to its services, aims at allowing use of the scholarly primitives, including discoverability, annotating or even comparing. Of course, the focus of OPERAS being on scholarly communication, not all scholarly primitives are planned to be covered here. The discovery service, being developed within the TRIPLE project and funded by the European Commission, will therefore serve as the discovery platform of OPERAS and will be available to researchers in order to discover 3 main types of resources: data(sets), researchers' profiles, and projects – data here is mostly meant as publication data. By aligning the metadata retrieved from various sources (either harvested or retrieved via APIs) and enriching it (also with the help of machine learning), comparison will also be possible on the metadata level of the resources. Also used not only by the researchers, but also useful for publishers and funders, the Metrics Service developed in the HIRMEOS project and now in beta, currently linked to 5 different partner platforms allows usage metrics to be retrieved by a central service and available to all via its API. These Metrics are usage data coming from various sources such as views or downloads on multiple platforms (i.e. Google Books, World Reader, etc...) as well as Altmetrics coming from mentions on other platforms such as Twitter, or the annotation platform hypothes.is. A Publishing Service Portal is currently being implemented as part of the OPERAS-P project, also funded by the European Commission. This portal, which is partly based on an already developed prototype made by DARIAH within its Humanities at Scale project, will provide to SSH researchers a simple and single entry-point in order to reach the different publishing services provided by OPERAS and its members. OPERAS Certification service, provided by the DOAB (Directory of Open Access Books) platform and developed within the HIRMEOS project, and already operational in beta, is intended to certify publishers at publishers' and at single publications' levels. The peer-review information is then available via a public API as well. There are other services also available or being developed, but the focus will be done on those 4 developed or soon to be developed services. We will also present how the services will be brought and available to a larger community by reaching out when they are successfully available via the EOSC Marketplace.

CLARIAH-DE brings together the data, tools and services of the two research infrastructure initiativesCLARIN-DandDARIAH-DEand the existing communities of users and providers of the infrastructures until 2021. CLARIN-D and DARIAH-DE can partly be seen as German equivalent of the European research infrastructure initiatives CLARIN and DARIAH. Potential users being aware of CLARIN and DARIAH, particularly users outside of the in-group, often wonder about the differences between both infrastructures and services. Most potential users want to access services and resources in the most convenient way, preferably with a single point of access, and want to use the services and resources they need, independent of their origin and also in combination. CLARIAH-DE also intends to open up resources for other communities and to extend its user base. After a year of collaborative work in CLARIAH-DE and also due to proceeding coordination efforts between CLARIN-D and DARIAH-DE, we have achieved first results: we were able to develop a common language and an understanding of the respective other infrastructure. The partners from different contexts have been successful in establishing a productive working groups. The integration of basic infrastructures is headed in the right direction.A first joint website is available and in the future becoming a single point of access to the data, tools, and services provided originally by the two infrastructures.

The CLARIN Language Resource Switchboard (LRS or Switchboard) serves as an established and valuable asset to provide the user with tools and services for their research data. Apart from looking at an already existing set of research data, moreover, many users would like to search for tools and services from the angle of the research method, a certain technology, interoperability or even just a research question, which calls for the SSH Open Marketplace (MP). The MP not only strives to provide individual items (tools, research data, tutorials, software) to the searching and browsing user, but first and foremost context. Contextualized items in the MP allow for a search serendipity which contributes substantially to the service experience. The LRS promises to be a suitable means to convey such serendipity. For this purpose, the following document outlines possible user stories in favor of its integration into the MP. Beyond the LRS-MP relation the document also considers scenarios for the relation of both components to the CLARIN Virtual Collection Registry (VCR). The VCR allows the user to create individual and persistent collections including records from a broad range of sources. Such sources may be repositories exposing research data (the common VCR use case= ’bibliography of research datasets’), but possibly also from other sources such as the MP. The overarching goal of the activity in T3.6 is to achieve - wherever useful and technically possible - an integration between CLARIN and DARIAH components, being developed and extended under the SSHOC umbrella. This includes especially the MP, the VCR and LRS. The DARIAH research infrastructure plays an important role in this regard, although this document focuses on the CLARIN LRS and CLARIN VCR as well as the MP. John Unsworth (2000) proposed a tentative list of scholarly primitives, and although he made a reservation that it was not meant to be exhaustive, one omission is striking, namely the exclusion of communicating. It is even more visible once one realises that all the examples he provides in the paper of comparison IBabble), linking (Blake Archive), or sampling (VRML visualisation of Dante’s Inferno) have the indispensable communication component attached to them. The aim of this presentation is two-fold. First of all, we will reclaim the role of communication as one of the fundamental functional primitives, crucial in all stages of the research workflow. To use Unsworth’s nomenclature, communication takes advantage of the additive characteristics of scholarly primitives and enters into combinations with all other scholarly primitives. Secondly, right after reestablishing the communication as a scholarly primitive we will swiftly proceed to problematise the notion of its universality for all disciplines through exploration of the specificity of scholarly communication in the humanities. We will achieve that using New Panorama of Polish Literature (NPLP.pl) as a case-study, outlining the relevant digital infrastructure for the humanities. It has long been suggested that communication should be seen as a fundamental element of the research workflow, rather than an activity running somewhat separate to the research practice (Latour and Woolgar 1986; Garvey 1979; Galison and Galison 1997; Nielsen 2011). Recently this idea wass reinforced by Hillyer et al. (2017) who describe open science as “opening of the entire research cycle” and include communication as one of its key elements. It means that dissemination is no longer perceived as the final stage of a research process but becomes an integral part of all scholarly activities. New digital methods and tools (Dallas et al. 2017), including electronic communication and social media (Kjellberg 2010), facilitate this process. allowing scholars to communicate and collaborate with each other and the wider audience quickly and efficiently at all stages of their work. This also includes intermediary results of the work, including raw and secondary data (Castelli, Manghi, and Thanos 2013). The incorporation of communication into all stages of the research workflow also means that choosing a certain communication strategy is obviously influenced by the perceived goal, but also the goal influences other phases of the research process. This feedback loop more precisely on the example of NPLP, a research infrastructure for literary scholars enabling the creation of extended, multimedia monographs and presenting scholarly arguments through linking text with image, visualisation, map and video content. Yet, Creating a new digital collection forces researchers to rethink how their work is presented, categorised and displayed . For instance in "Postmodern Sienkiewicz" collection (http://nplp.pl/en/kolekcja/postmodern-sienkiewicz/) authors divided their articles into shorter fragments with additional iconography allowing for non-linear reading and access through image-interface. These activities required additional work on the stage of data collection, analysis and interpretation. In conclusion we will tackle upon the question remains to what extent such communication practices are universal for all sciences and what could be treated as reserved for the humanities in the spirit of Diltheyan disctinction between explaining (in sciences) and understanding (in the humanities)., {"references":["Castelli, D., P. OpenAIRE Open Access Week Webinar:Public release of the OpenAIRE-DARIAH Community gateway: How to make your research more visible and more connected A paramount challenge in present-day knowledge production is to communicate research results in ways that align with our increasingly digital and also increasingly diverse research workflows. Research discovery platforms that have been developed from EU grants and will remain open to the public are game changers in this respect. They support the visibility and discoverability of all sorts of research outputs (datasets, software, protocols, teaching materials etc.) to showcase a broader view of scholarship and enable a greater transparency of scholarly communication. This webinar aimedto introduce an instance of them, the OpenAIRE-DARIAH Community Gateway. Built on the top of the OpenAIRE Research Graph, the OpenAIRE Community Gatewayswork as single access points to a virtual space that connects metadata descriptions of all scholarly objects that are important to the given community. The DARIAH dashboard brings together publications and a broad range of research data (digital critical editions, plain text, archived data, audiovisual data, raw data, encoded documents, software applications, source code, images, structured graphics, databases, structured text, scientific and statistical data formats) that are hosted by DARIAH services such as NAKALA and TextGrid. As such, it significantly reduces the fragmentation of DARIAH research outputs across the web. A major benefit of such a discovery environment is that it provides scholarly communities with a single entry point to DARIAH-affiliated research outputs. This entry point, in turn, is embedded into the context of a bigger collection of Digital Humanities and Cultural Heritage corpus enabling therefore arts and humanities researchers to find DARIAH outputs more easily, as an integral part of their discovery routine. The SSH Open Marketplace is the only fully-integrated discovery portal which pools and harmonises the tools and services useful for the SSH research communities, offering a high quality and contextualised answer at every step of the research data life cycle. Thereport provides a brief overview of the current landscape of Persistent Identifier solutions (PIDs) in the context of the research infrastructure projects CLARIAH-DE, CLARIN, and DARIAH. It summarizes PID systems that are actively used by project partners and the technical and organisational requirements that led to their use. The report reflects the state of affairs of 2020.

This technology watch report discusses digital repository solutions, in the context of the research infrastructure projects CLARIAH-DE, CLARIN, and DARIAH. It provides an overview of different repository systems, comparing them and discussing their respective applicabilities from the perspectives of the project partners at the time of writing.

• To the extent that is has been theorised, work on DH pedagogy has tended to be very strongly tied to the classroom experience. A classroom experience, however, exists within a particular social and institutional framework (students seeking knowledge, experience or qualification from instructors who master a specific body of knowledge) which is quite different from the operational and distributed nature of Research Infrastructures such as DARIAH.• Research infrastructures seldom possess the kinds of specialised procedures, staff, resources and expertise to deliver formal educational programmes, but the strength of RI’s lies in the provision of and reflection upon the experience of acculturation and professionalization in “real” cross-institutional and often cross-cultural projects in which peer learning, skills transfers and network building are a rule rather than an exception.• Research Infrastructures such as DARIAH have a specific role to play in the European educational landscape by complementing rather than replacing the pedagogical models prevalent in HEIs today.• RI’s such as DARIAH should focus not only on DH or even on a discipline in which a student or researcher seeks to use DH methodologies, but also on highlighting how these practices engage interdependent communities of practice with intersecting concerns.• DARIAH should intensify effort to position itself as pedagogically relevant beyond the individual humanities disciplines in terms of what it can contribute to the development and dissemination of early-career researchers’ transferable skills and competences as identified by the Eurodoc 2018 Report.• DARIAH should establish an active educational partnership network in order to validate a new approach to the skills needs of humanities students and researchers, looking beyond the frame of what is currently available in the context of formal educational programmes.• DARIAH should develop a curricular model and, if possible, an internship program, to enable fluid exchange of knowledge and students between university programmes and the applied contexts of the research infrastructure.• DARIAH should continue to create and maintain essential filtering and contextualising layers for training materials, which are now available throughDARIAH-Campus, in order to coordinate and enhance open educational resources with other stakeholders in the field.• DARIAH should aim to apply and test its learning resources in different HE contexts in order to profit from unforeseen synergies and unexpected outcomes such as, for instance, the initiative to publish young researchers’ data papers using the DARIAH-Campus Event Capture Template, which emerged out of the DESIR Workshop at the University of Neuchâtel.• Building on currently identified needs, DARIAH should develop foresight models to predict future needs within the Higher Education sector.
