To estimate the main characteristics of neutrons emitted shortly before the scission of a fissioning nucleus, various experiments sensitive to the presence of these scission neutrons in thermal-neutron-induced fission of 235U and spontaneous fission of 252Cf were performed. The results of the experiments were analyzed within theoretical calculations allowing for various possible neutron-emission mechanisms, including the possibility of the emergence of neutrons from the scission of a nucleus.

An experiment has been carried out to study neutron-neutron angular correlations in spontaneous fission of 252Cf. Angular dependences of the number of neutron-neutron coincidences obtained in the experiment were compared with the results of the Monte Carlo calculations for various neutron detection thresholds in the range 425–1600 keV. It was inferred that 10–11% of the total number of prompt neutrons from 252Cf (s.f.) in the laboratory system were emitted isotropically and may probably be interpreted as neutrons directly associated with the instant of scission of the nucleus. The analysis allowed their energy distribution to be determined as well. A similar method was also used to describe the angular correlation of prompt neutrons that accompanied the reaction 235U(n th ,f).

The description of an experimental set-up for neutron multiplicity measurements and its specific data processing procedures are presented together with some results for 252 Cf ( sf ) . With this experimental set-up the light and heavy fission fragment kinetic energies for every fission event can be registered simultaneously with the number of prompt neutrons emitted by each of the complementary fission fragments. The proposed data processing makes it possible to perform the reconstruction of pre-neutron fission fragment masses and kinetic energies as well as the initial neutron multiplicity distribution.

The present work was undertaken to examine the effect of 2 month glucocorticoid treatment on estradiol-induced proliferation in the uterus. Ovariectomized rats were treated with long-acting triamcinolone acetonide or saline for 60 days followed by a single injection of estradiol dipropionate or vehicle. Proliferation in the uterus was estimated by the mitotic index, bromodeoxyuridine-labelling index and proliferating cells nuclear antigen-labelling index 24, 36 and 48 h after the injection of estradiol or vehicle. Two month glucocorticoid treatment resulted in an initial decrease in all the parameters for luminal and glandular epithelia followed by an increase to 48 h after estradiol injection, and in a large increase in all proliferative parameters for stromal and myometrial cells at all periods of observation, compared with control rats untreated with glucocorticoid. The 2 month glucocorticoid treatment protocol had no significant effect on the parameters without estradiol administration. Analysis of proliferation for myometrial cells was also performed after 1 month treatment with glucocorticoid followed by estradiol or saline. Results showed no significant influence of 1 month treatment with glucocorticoid on myometrial cells.

Existing methods of impedance cardiography for estimating blood flow parameters are based on measuring amplitude and temporal characteristics of pulse waves in specific points. Our aim was to improve the algorithm of blood flow analysis using continuous "integral amplitude" of rheogram. Also, we have developed the basic hemodynamics equation for our heterogeneous model taking into account anthropometric, morphologic and anisotropic of various body segments. The resulting formulas were adapted for the estimation of peripheral blood flow in major body segments (head, arms, legs and torso, including abdominal and thoracic region).A method of controlled systemic hemodynamics estimationis represented which utilizies an automatic commutation scheme with application of 5 electrode pairs on head an extremities. We describe the results og registration of blood flow redistributionbetween body segments during active orthostatic test with simultaneous control of a checksum, i.e. a difference between the volumes of central and peripheral blood flows.
