Abstract: In 2021 JET exploited its unique capabilities to operate with T and D–T fuel with an ITER-like Be/W wall (JET-ILW). This second major JET D–T campaign (DTE2), after DTE1 in 1997, represented the culmination of a series of JET enhancements—new fusion diagnostics, new T injection capabilities, refurbishment of the T plant, increased auxiliary heating, in-vessel calibration of 14 MeV neutron yield monitors—as well as significant advances in plasma theory and modelling in the fusion community. DTE2 was complemented by a sequence of isotope physics campaigns encompassing operation in pure tritium at high T-NBI power. Carefully conducted for safe operation with tritium, the new T and D–T experiments used 1 kg of T (vs 100 g in DTE1), yielding the most fusion reactor relevant D–T plasmas to date and expanding our understanding of isotopes and D–T mixture physics. Furthermore, since the JET T and DTE2 campaigns occurred almost 25 years after the last major D–T tokamak experiment, it was also a strategic goal of the European fusion programme to refresh operational experience of a nuclear tokamak to prepare staff for ITER operation. The key physics results of the JET T and DTE2 experiments, carried out within the EUROfusion JET1 work package, are reported in this paper. Progress in the technological exploitation of JET D–T operations, development and validation of nuclear codes, neutronic tools and techniques for ITER operations carried out by EUROfusion (started within the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme and continuing under the Horizon Europe FP) are reported in (Litaudon et al Nucl. Fusion accepted), while JET experience on T and D–T operations is presented in (King et al Nucl. Fusion submitted).

Abstract: The recent deuterium–tritium campaign in JET-ILW (DTE2) has provided a unique opportunity to study the isotope dependence of the L-H power threshold in an ITER-like wall environment (Be wall and W divertor). Here we present results from dedicated L-H transition experiments at JET-ILW, documenting the power threshold in tritium and deuterium–tritium plasmas, comparing them with the matching deuterium and hydrogen datasets. From earlier experiments in JET-ILW it is known that as plasma isotopic composition changes from deuterium, through varying deuterium/hydrogen concentrations, to pure hydrogen, the value of the line averaged density at which the threshold is minimum, ${\bar n_{{\text{e}},{\text{min}}}}$ , increases, leading us to expect that ${\bar n_{{\text{e}},{\text{min}}}}$ (T) < ${\bar n_{{\text{e}},{\text{min}}}}$ (DT) < ${\bar n_{{\text{e}},{\text{min}}}}$ (D) < ${\bar n_{{\text{e}},{\text{min}}}}$ (H). The new power threshold data confirms these expectations in most cases, with the corresponding ordering of the minimum power thresholds. We present a comparison of this data to power threshold scalings, used for extrapolation to future devices such as ITER and DEMO.

Abstract: The current epidemics of cardiovascular and metabolic noncommunicable diseases have emerged alongside dramatic modifications in lifestyle and living environments. These correspond to changes in our ”modern” postwar societies globally characterized by rural-to-urban migration, modernization of agricultural practices, and transportation, climate change, and aging. Evidence suggests that these changes are related to each other, although the social and biological mechanisms as well as their interactions have yet to be uncovered. LongITools, as one of the 9 projects included in the European Human Exposome Network, will tackle this environmental health equation linking multidimensional environmental exposures to the occurrence of cardiovascular and metabolic noncommunicable diseases.

Abstract: We present an overview of results from a series of L–H transition experiments undertaken at JET since the installation of the ITER-like-wall (JET-ILW), with beryllium wall tiles and a tungsten divertor. Tritium, helium and deuterium plasmas have been investigated. Initial results in tritium show ohmic L–H transitions at low density and the power threshold for the L–H transition (P LH) is lower in tritium plasmas than in deuterium ones at low densities, while we still lack contrasted data to provide a scaling at high densities. In helium plasmas there is a notable shift of the density at which the power threshold is minimum ( n ¯ e , min ) to higher values relative to deuterium and hydrogen references. Above n ¯ e , min (He) the L–H power threshold at high densities is similar for D and He plasmas. Transport modelling in slab geometry shows that in helium neoclassical transport competes with interchange-driven transport, unlike in hydrogen isotopes. Measurements of the radial electric field in deuterium plasmas show that E r shear is not a good indicator of proximity to the L–H transition. Transport analysis of ion heat flux in deuterium plasmas show a non-linearity as density is decreased below n ¯ e , min . Lastly, a regression of the JET-ILW deuterium data is compared to the 2008 ITPA scaling law.

Abstract: The role of the divertor configuration and divertor plasma physics on the L–H transition is poorly understood, leading to large uncertainties in predicting the L–H power threshold in future devices. This contribution reports on edge perpendicular plasma flow measurements by Doppler backscattering in JET L–H transition experiments with the outer divertor strike-point at different positions: horizontal target (HT), vertical target (VT), and in the corner configuration (between the HT and VTs). The edge perpendicular flow was found to be significantly affected by changes in the divertor configuration in the region inside the separatrix. Our results do not show evidence for the existence of a critical edge flow shear needed to achieve H-mode for different divertor configurations, with a larger shear observed for the VT configuration. No significant change in the shear flow and in the density fluctuation level is measured preceding the L–H transition in the region just inside the separatrix. The dynamics of the L–H transitions are also influenced by the divertor configuration with divertor oscillations (DOs) observed only in the HT configuration. Interestingly, DOs are associated with marked changes in the edge perpendicular flow around the separatrix.

Abstract: CROSS SECTORAL EMPOWERMENT IN AN EFFORT TO REALIZE A COMMUNITY THAT CARES ABOUT HEALTH AND SAFETY DRIVING. Traffic accidents are a global phenomenon with increasing events that can result in losses and deaths. The most dominant human factor is related to traffic accident between vehicle and physical environment. WHO reports that around 1.2 million people die each year from road accidents and are a leading cause of death among young people aged 15-29 years. Partners in this program are residents of Rt 24, RW 12, Tegowanu, Kaliagung, Sentolo, Kulon Progo. The problems faced by partners are the high driving accidents in the partner area, due to geographical conditions of the road, vehicles that pass at high speeds from both directions, and poor driving behavior. The methods used in this program are community education, demonstrations, case simulations and family counseling. The result of this program are that there is an increase in partner's knowledge related to driving health and safety, as much as 80% of participants are able to re-evacuate the techniques of evacuation, transportation and first aid in an accident at the location. It requires the efforts of the relevant parties to continue to accustom the culture of healthy and safety driving.

Abstract: Mental illness and disability affect millions of individuals yearly in the U.S. The most important legislation protecting the mentally disabled in the workplace in the U.S. over the last half century has been the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and its associated legislation and guidance. Although the employee should first request reasonable accommodation with the employer, evaluation by a mental health professional is one of the initial steps for individuals who report significant psychiatric symptoms that are impairing their functioning at work in the U.S.. Important regulations and laws in the United States that are essential knowledge to performing thorough mental disability evaluations include the ADA and Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA), Social Security Disability, Workers' Compensation, and private disability insurance. These laws differ in applicability and in their definitions of disability. Social Security Disability is applicable to workers who have long-term impairments regardless of whether the disability arose on or off the job, while Worker's Compensation is specific to persons with work-related illness and injuries that occur on the job (Reno, Williams, & Sengupta, 2003/2004). The Social Security definition of a disabled person is a person who is not “able to engage in any substantial gainful activity because of a medically-determinable physical or mental impairment(s): that is expected to result in death, or that has lasted or is expected to last for a continuous period of at least 12 months” (Social Security Red Book, 2016). However, the Workers' Compensation definition of what illnesses/injuries are compensated, the level of benefits and who provides the insurance are state-specific. Due to these differences in definition of disability, it is essential for the mental health professional performing a mental disability evaluation to clarify with the referral source or referring agency which legislation and laws they feel are directly relevant to the specific situation before starting the evaluation. While the ADA and ADA Amendments Act of 2008 have had the greatest impact on the improvement of conditions for mentally disabled individuals in employment over the last 25 years, they have also been the most challenging by far for mental health experts to understand and apply (Cook, 2006). Interestingly, the ADA has had a much quicker effect on improving access to services for the medically disabled as compared with the mentally disabled in the U.S. (Ullman, Johnsen, Moss, & Burris, 2001). This article reviews the history and status of current ADA- and ADAAA-related law and employment as well as Canadian disability law and global progress towards universal disability legislation as evidenced by the 2006 Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Abstract: In this paper we are analyzing thought experiments that could be found in Einstein and Galileo's work, noticing that some researchers are even declaring certain presocratic thinking as thought experiments. The term was coined before Einstein, and there were others who designed experiments full of imagination. Yet thought experiments are a subset of scientific experiments and should be looked for in experimental sciences like physics, so here imaginative exercises are not accepted as thought experiments. Thus in this paper a new working definition of a thought experiment is proposed and some rather dubious examples that are now widely being proclaimed for thought experiments are properly classified. Also, we will give a general characterization of thought experiments as they appear in modern physics, to draw some conclusions about them and then analyze some Einstein's work.

Abstract: The aim of the research was to determine the effect of soybean milk and probiotic drink and their combination on the decrease of total cholesterol content in hypercholesterolemia women. The subjects of the research were women ranging from 30 to 60 years old with a total cholesterol content of 201-346 mg/di. The research subjects were divided into three groups, i.e. group I was given soybean milk (19 people); group II was given probiotic drink (19 people), and group Ill was given the combination of soybean milk and probiotic drink. The samples were supplied for four weeks. The results of statistical analysis indicate that there is a decrease of cholesterol content on the subjects having been given soybean milk, probiotic drink, and the combination of soybean milk and probiotic drink. The combination given for four weeks can decrease cholesterol total content. Abstract: The JET 2019–2020 scientific and technological programme exploited the results of years of concerted scientific and engineering work, including the ITER-like wall (ILW: Be wall and W divertor) installed in 2010, improved diagnostic capabilities now fully available, a major neutral beam injection upgrade providing record power in 2019–2020, and tested the technical and procedural preparation for safe operation with tritium. Research along three complementary axes yielded a wealth of new results. Firstly, the JET plasma programme delivered scenarios suitable for high fusion power and alpha particle (a) physics in the coming D–T campaign (DTE2), with record sustained neutron rates, as well as plasmas for clarifying the impact of isotope mass on plasma core, edge and plasma-wall interactions, and for ITER pre-fusion power operation. The efficacy of the newly installed shattered pellet injector for mitigating disruption forces and runaway electrons was demonstrated. Secondly, research on the consequences of long-term exposure to JET-ILW plasma was completed, with emphasis on wall damage and fuel retention, and with analyses of wall materials and dust particles that will help validate assumptions and codes for design and operation of ITER and DEMO. Thirdly, the nuclear technology programme aiming to deliver maximum technological return from operations in D, T and D–T benefited from the highest D–D neutron yield in years, securing results for validating radiation transport and activation codes, and nuclear data for ITER. Abstract: Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have found applications in many image processing tasks, such as feature extraction, image classification, and object recognition. It has also been shown that the inverse of CNNs, so- called deconvolutional neural networks, can be used for inverse problems such as plasma tomography. In essence, plasma tomography consists in reconstructing the 2D plasma profile on a poloidal cross-section of a fusion device, based on line-integrated measurements from multiple radiation detectors. Since the reconstruction process is computationally intensive, a deconvolutional neural network trained to produce the same results will yield a significant computational speedup, at the expense of a small error which can be assessed using different metrics. In this work, we discuss the design principles behind such networks, including the use of multiple layers, how they can be stacked, and how their dimensions can be tuned according to the number of detectors and the desired tomographic resolution for a given fusion device. We describe the application of such networks at JET and COMPASS, where at JET we use the bolometer system, and at COMPASS we use the soft X-ray diagnostic based on photodiode arrays.

19. Assistive listening devices drive neuroplasticity in children with dyslexia.

Abstract: Children with dyslexia often exhibit increased variability in sensory and cognitive aspects of hearing relative to typically developing peers. Assistive listening devices (classroom FM systems) may reduce auditory processing variability by enhancing acoustic clarity and attention. We assessed the impact of classroom FM system use for 1 year on auditory neurophysiology and reading skills in children with dyslexia. FM system use reduced the variability of subcortical responses to sound, and this improvement was linked to concomitant increases in reading and phonological awareness. Moreover, response consistency before FM system use predicted gains in phonological awareness. A matched control group of children with dyslexia attending the same schools who did not use the FM system did not show these effects. Assistive listening devices can improve the neural representation of speech and impact reading-related skills by enhancing acoustic clarity and attention, reducing variability in auditory processing. Abstract: In this article, we studied the effect of acoustic cavitation on the physicochemical and organoleptic parameters, the microstructure of Adyghe cheese made from cow's and goat's milk, and their mixture. The experimental conditions, optimal modes of ultrasonic cavitation treatment of cow and goat milk, and their mixtures are determined. It was found that high-frequency acoustic cavitation improves the physico-chemical and organoleptic indicators of cheese. 21. Beyond exercise oscillatory ventilations: the prognostic impact of loop gain in heart failure.

Abstract: Exercise oscillatory ventilation (EOV) is a strong prognostic marker in patients with heart failure (HF) and left ventricular (LV) dysfunction. This phenomenon can be explained through a single quantitative measurement of ventilatory instability, the loop gain. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate whether loop gain could be a better tool than subjective EOV evaluation to identify HF patients with a higher risk of major cardiovascular complications. This was a single-center retrospective study that included patients with left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) ≤ 50% consecutively referred for cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) from 2016-2020. Loop gain was measured through computational evaluation of the minute ventilation graph. Of the 250 patients included, the 66 that presented EOV also had higher values of loop gain, when compared to patients without EOV. Those with both EOV and higher loop gain had more severe HF, with higher NT-proBNP and VE/VCO2 slope as well as lower peak VO2 and LVEF. On multivariable analysis, loop gain was strongly correlated with the composite endpoint of cardiovascular death, urgent heart transplantation, urgent left ventricular assist device implantation or HF hospitalization, even after correcting for peak VO2, LVEF, VE/VCO2 slope and NT-proBNP. Presence of EOV was not prognostically significant in this analysis. Loop gain is an objective parameter that quantifies ventilatory instability and showed to have a strong prognostic value in a cohort of patients with HF and LVEF ≤ 50%, outperforming the classification of EOV., (© The Author(s) 2023.
