We measure the top quark mass in dilepton final states of tt¯ events in pp¯ collisions at s=1.96 TeV, using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9.7 fb−1 at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The analysis features a comprehensive optimization of the neutrino weighting method to minimize the statistical uncertainties. We also improve the calibration of jet energies using the calibration determined in tt¯→lepton+jets events, which reduces the otherwise limiting systematic uncertainty from the jet energy scale. The measured top quark mass is mt=173.32±1.36(stat)±0.85(syst) GeV.

We present a measurement of the cross sections for the associated production of a W boson with at least one heavy quark jet, b or c, in proton–antiproton collisions. Data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 8.7 fb−1 recorded with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron pp¯ Collider at s=1.96 TeV are used to measure the cross sections differentially as a function of the jet transverse momenta in the range 20 to 150 GeV. These results are compared to calculations of perturbative QCD theory as well as predictions from Monte Carlo generators.

Abstract The timely and accurate diagnosis of candidemia, a severe bloodstream infection caused by Candida spp., remains challenging in clinical practice. Blood culture, the current gold standard technique, suffers from lengthy turnaround times and limited sensitivity. To address these limitations, we propose a novel approach utilizing an Electronic Nose (E-nose) combined with Time Series-based classification techniques to analyze and identify Candida spp. rapidly, using culture species of C. albicans, C.kodamaea ohmeri, C. glabrara, C. haemulonii, C. parapsilosis and C. krusei as control samples. This innovative method not only enhances diagnostic accuracy and reduces decision time for healthcare professionals in selecting appropriate treatments but also offers the potential for expanded usage and cost reduction due to the E-nose’s low production costs. Our proof-of-concept experimental results, carried out with culture samples, demonstrate promising outcomes, with the Inception Time classifier achieving an impressive average accuracy of 97.46% during the test phase. This paper presents a groundbreaking advancement in the field, empowering medical practitioners with an efficient and reliable tool for early and precise identification of candidemia, ultimately leading to improved patient outcomes.

We provide the first comprehensive demographic assessment of the Endangered Mediterranean monk seal Monachus monachus population residing in the Madeira Archipelago to identify factors that may impede population growth. Encounter data was obtained for this small, elusive population from 2012 to 2021 using a variety of non-invasive methods. From birth to age 2 mo, when pups molt, survival averaged 0.57. From birth to 1 yr and from 1-2 yr, estimated survival rates were 0.47 and 0.85, respectively. Beyond 2 yr, survival estimates differed by sex: 0.98 for females and 0.90 for males. These survival rates are similar to published estimates from the Cabo Blanco (Western Sahara/Mauritania) population. This is remarkable given that Cabo Blanco is situated adjacent to the extremely productive Canary Current system, whereas the marine environment of Madeira is far less productive. Instead of reducing survival, low marine productivity in Madeira appears to manifest in strikingly depressed reproductive rates. We estimated a mean gross reproductive rate of just 0.31; less than half the value (0.71) reported for Cabo Blanco. The youngest parturient females in Madeira were 6 yr old, whereas 3 yr olds give birth at Cabo Blanco. Despite low fecundity, the monk seal population in Madeira has been recovering, aided by a series of conservation measures implemented since 1988. Our results document that abundance increased from 19 seals in 2013 to 27 in 2021. Despite this undeniable success, the monk seals of Madeira remain vulnerable and require continued monitoring and protection in order to persist.

Eucalyptus comprises the largest planted area of cultivated production forest in Brazil. Genetic modification (GM) of eucalyptus can provide additional characteristics for increasing productivity and protecting wood yield, as well as potentially altering fiber for a diversity of industrial uses. However, prior to releasing a new GM plant, risk assessments studies with non-target organisms must be undertaken. Bees are prominent biological models since they play an important role in varied ecosystems, including for Eucalyptus pollination. The main goal of this study was to evaluate whether a novel event (Eucalyptus 751K032), which carries the cp4-epsps gene that encodes the protein CP4-EPSPS and nptII gene that encodes the protein NPTII, might adversely affect honey bees (Apis mellifera) and stingless bees (Scaptotrigona bipunctata). The experiments were performed in southern Brazil, as follows: (i) larvae and adults were separately investigated, (ii) three or four different pollen diets were offered to bees, depending on larval or adult status, and (iii) two biological attributes, i.e., survivorship of larvae and adults and food intake by adults were evaluated. The diets were prepared with pollen from GM Eucalyptus 751K032; pollen from conventional Eucalyptus clone FGN-K, multifloral pollen or pure larval food. The insecticide dimethoate was used to evaluate the sensitivity of bees to toxic substances. Datasets were analyzed with Chi-square test, survival curves and repeated measures ANOVA. Results indicated no evidence of adverse effects of Eucalyptus pollen 751K032 on either honey bees or stingless bees assessed here. Therefore, the main findings suggest that the novel event may be considered harmless to these organisms since neither survivorship nor food consumption by bees were affected by it.

INTRODUCTION The WHO End TB Strategy emphasises early diagnosis and screening of TB in high-risk groups, including migrants. We analysed TB yield data from four large migrant TB screening programmes to inform TB policy.METHODS We pooled routinely collected individual TB screening episode data from Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom under the European Union Commission E-DETECT.TB grant, described characteristics of the screened population, and analysed TB case yield.RESULTS We collected data on 2,302,260 screening episodes among 2,107,016 migrants, mostly young adults aged 18–44 years (77.8%) from Asia (78%) and Africa (18%). There were 1,658 TB cases detected through screening, with substantial yield variation (per 100,000): 201.1 for Sweden (95% confidence intervals CI 111.4–362.7), 68.9 (95% CI 65.4–72.7) for the United Kingdom, 83.2 (95% CI 73.3–94.4) for the Netherlands and 653.6 (95% CI 445.4–958.2) in Italy. Most TB cases were notified among migrants from Asia (n = 1,206, 75/100,000) or Africa (n = 370, 76.4/100,000), and among asylum seekers (n = 174, 131.5/100,000), migrants to the Netherlands (n = 101, 61.9/100,000) and settlement visa migrants to the United Kingdom (n = 590, 120.3/100,000).CONCLUSIONS We found considerable variations in yield across programmes, types of migrants and country of origin. These variations may be partly explained by differences in migration patterns and programmatic characteristics.

Context Soil maps are a fundamental tool for agriculture development and for land management planning. Digital soil mapping (DSM) consists of a group of techniques based on geotechnologies and statistics/geostatistics that helps soil specialists to map soil types and properties. Aims Four DSM strategies were applied in south-east Brazil. The goal was to visually delineate soil polygons with support of different strategies. Methods The delineation started with aerial photographs, followed by a bare soil image composition. Afterwards, it was added layers with landscape characterisation derived from digital terrain covariates and clustering analysis. Finally, digital clay content map from A and B horizons were used to produce a soil texture gradient raster (clay content increasing in depth). Key results The increasing number of polygons proved that the addition of covariates increased the detail level of the soil map, enhancing visualisation of the landscape variation, resulting on a map that substantially improved both national and state soil inventories. Conclusions We concluded that combining simple geotechnological tools might be of great utility for increasing detailed soil information proper for farmers and decision making. Implications Therefore, new soil information will be available for end users, supporting land management, food production sustainability, and soil conservation.

Yellow fever virus (YFV) exhibits a sylvatic cycle of transmission involving wild mosquitoes and non-human primates (NHP). In Brazil, YFV is endemic in the Amazon region, from where waves of epidemic expansion towards other Brazilian states eventually occur. During such waves, the virus usually follows the route from North to the Central-West and Southeast Brazilian regions. Amidst these journeys, outbreaks of Yellow Fever (YF) in NHPs, with spillovers to humans have been observed. In the present work, we describe a surveillance effort encompassing the technology of smartphone applications and the coordinated action of several research institutions and health services that succeeded in the first confirmation of YFV in NHPs in the state of Minas Gerais (MG), Southeast region, in 2021, followed by genome sequencing in an interval of only ten days. Samples from two NHPs (one of the species Alouatta caraya in the municipality of Icaraí de Minas and the other of the species Callithrix penicillata in the municipality of Ubaí) were collected and the presence of YFV was confirmed by RT-qPCR. We generated three near-complete by Nanopore sequencer MinION. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that all viral genomes recovered are equal and related to lineage South America 1, clustering with a genome detected in the Amazon region (Pará state) in 2017. These findings reveal the occurrence of a new wave of viral expansion in MG, six years after the beginning of the major outbreak in the state, between 2015-2018. No human cases were reported to date, showing the importance of coordinated work between local surveillance based on available technologies and support laboratories to ensure a quick response and implementation of contingency measures towards avoiding the occurrence of YF cases in humans.

BackgroundCOVID-19 has impacted all aspects of life, including people’s sex lives, via experience of the disease and measures to prevent transmission. We examined sexual behaviour in Britain during the initial national ‘lockdown’ (≥23/3/2020) and compared this to the 3 months pre-lockdown.MethodsWe analysed weighted web-panel survey data from a quota-based sample of 6,654 people in Britain. The questionnaire, fielded 29/7–10/8/2020, included questions about sexual activities pre- and during lockdown, and perceived changes in frequency between these timeframes. We used descriptive statistics and multivariable regression to examine independent associations with relationship status, age, gender, and health.ResultsAltogether, 91.2% of sexually-experienced participants reported any sexual activity during lockdown;85.7% reporting ‘in-person’/physical partnered activities. Around half reported no change in frequency of partnered-sex versus pre-lockdown, however, those not cohabiting were more likely than those cohabiting to report changes (75.6% versus 35.1%) – typically declines. Masturbation (62.0%) and virtual/digital activities (54.3%) were less commonly reported during lockdown, although they were more commonly reported in those not cohabiting versus cohabiting (69.2% versus 57.9%, 67.4% versus 46.7%, respectively). Changes in reported frequency of virtual/digital activities were more common (66.4%) than in-person activities, with increases as likely as declines, except for porn use, where twice as many perceived an increase than a decrease. After adjustment, those reporting a decline in sex were more likely to be: non-cohabiting (AOR:1.68,95%CI:1.45–1.95), aged

Importance Primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) is a rare, inherited condition involving motile cilia that line the upper and lower respiratory tracts, leading to chronic infections of the paranasal sinuses, middle ear, and bronchi that begin during infancy. Unfortunately, despite its early presentation, PCD is often recognized late. Observations People with PCD have diverse clinical manifestations, including chronic upper and lower respiratory tract disease, laterality defects, and subfertility. Through efforts of multinational clinical collaboratives, 4 cardinal features have been described that identify people who likely have PCD: unexplained neonatal respiratory distress, left-right laterality defects, daily wet cough, and nonseasonal rhinosinusitis beginning before 6 months of age. Recent advances in the understanding of the genetics and pathogenesis of the disease have led to a revolution in the approach to screening and diagnostic testing. Moreover, PCD has a broad clinical spectrum, and genotype-phenotype associations are beginning to be recognized. Conclusions and relevance A high index of suspicion remains critical in diagnosing PCD. Children who have at least 2 of the major clinical features should be considered for further evaluation. Nevertheless, while newer tools have improved diagnostic capabilities, there is no single test that will diagnose every person with the disease. In people suspected of having PCD, nasal nitric oxide measurement is a useful screen, followed by diagnostic genetic testing and if negative, ciliary ultrastructural analysis. Despite otolaryngologic manifestations being common in infancy and persisting into adulthood, they have been understudied. Indeed, there are few randomized clinical trials examining the medicosurgical approaches to respiratory disease.

The subsurface waters of the northern Arabian Sea display a pronounced oxygen minimum layer associated with high nitrite maxima which provide an ideal niche for organisms that can respire nitrate. Culture-based studies elaborate the physiological characteristics of the organisms and their metabolic activities in biogeochemical cycles. In this study, the bacterial diversity and nitrate utilizing activity of the culturable heterotrophic bacteria inhabiting the water column oxygen minimum zone of Arabian Sea were investigated. Nitrate-reducing bacteria were isolated from the water column in the central Arabian Sea. Genotypic characterization of the isolates using 16 S rDNA gene sequencing grouped them into three phylogenetic groups i.e. Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, and Actinobacteria. Out of the 56 isolated bacteria, 45 strains belonged to Proteobacteria, 6 to Firmicutes and 5 to Actinobacteria. The nitrate reducing ability of the isolates was tested using Griess test. Thirty-six species belonging to genera Alcanivorax, Alteromonas, Halomonas, Pseudoalteromonas, Marinobacter, Bacillus, and Vibrio were positive for NO2-/NO3- reduction. Our results imply that cultivable bacteria capable of utilizing NO3 - available in the system are present in the Arabian Sea oxygen minimum zone and the conditions existing therein must be favorable for their growth and functionality.

The eastern Arabian Sea has a unique and permanent oxygen minimum zone (OMZ) extending along the western continental margin of India. The Arabian Sea OMZ is a site of intense denitrification, contributing to 20% of the global oceanic denitrification, playing a significant role in the nitrogen cycle. This study reveals the members of the culturable marine bacterial communities thriving and functioning in the sediment underlying the Arabian Sea OMZ, through 16S rDNA phylogenetic analysis and elucidating their nitrate reduction potential. Phylogenetic analyses revealed that these cultured bacteria distributed into five phyla, viz. Firmicutes (45.7%) Gammaproteobacteria (36.84%), Actinobacteria (8.7%), Bacteroidetes (5.26%), and Alphaproteobacteria (3.5%). The presence of denitrification genes such as narG, nirS, and nosZ in the cultured bacteria (39%) explains their importance in this process. Present study on the diversity and distribution of bacterial communities in the OMZ surface sediment and their probable role in the nitrogen cycle will provide insight into the microbial biogeochemical processes occurring in this region.

Objective: To describe the incidence and timing of provider-specific interventions for children with isolated cleft palate. Design: This was a retrospective cohort study involving review of medical records. Setting: Multidisciplinary team care clinic at a tertiary academic children’s hospital between January 2000 and July 2019. Patients: Patients with isolated nonsyndromic cleft palate seen by an American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association-approved team; 138 children were included. Main Outcome Measures: Study outcomes included incidence of secondary velopharyngeal management, tympanostomy tube insertion, speech therapy, hearing loss, dental/orthodontic treatment, and psychology interventions. Provider-specific outcomes were calculated for patients at ages 0 to 3, 3 to 5, and >5 years. Results: Median follow-up time was 7.0 years (interquartile range: 3.3-11.8 years). At their last team assessment, 42% of patients still had conductive hearing loss. The rate of tympanostomy tube insertions not done alongside a palatoplasty was highest for ages 3 to 5 and dropped after new American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Foundation guidelines in 2013 ( P = .015); 54% of patients received speech-language therapy during follow-up. Palatoplasty, psychology, and dental/orthodontic treatment were all less common than speech or ENT treatment ( P < .01). Secondary palatoplasty was performed in 31 patients (22%). Patients who received speech, dental/orthodontic, or psychology intervention followed up longer than those who did not (9.8 vs 2.1 years, P < .001). Conclusion: Half of the patients terminated team follow-up by age 7, suggesting that burden of care outweighed perceived benefits of continued follow-up for many families. These results can be used to adjust protocols for children with isolated cleft palate.

- Abstract
We describe an analysis comparing the pp[over ¯] elastic cross section as measured by the D0 Collaboration at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV to that in pp collisions as measured by the TOTEM Collaboration at 2.76, 7, 8, and 13 TeV using a model-independent approach. The TOTEM cross sections, extrapolated to a center-of-mass energy of sqrt[s]=1.96 TeV, are compared with the D0 measurement in the region of the diffractive minimum and the second maximum of the pp cross section. The two data sets disagree at the 3.4σ level and thus provide evidence for the t-channel exchange of a colorless, C-odd gluonic compound, also known as the odderon. We combine these results with a TOTEM analysis of the same C-odd exchange based on the total cross section and the ratio of the real to imaginary parts of the forward elastic strong interaction scattering amplitude in pp scattering for which the significance is between 3.4σ and 4.6σ. The combined significance is larger than 5σ and is interpreted as the first observation of the exchange of a colorless, C-odd gluonic compound.

Background Primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) is a rare genetic disease arising from motile ciliary dysfunction and associated with recurrent and chronic upper and lower respiratory tract infections. Pediatric otolaryngologists may see these patients prior to the development of lung disease. Features of PCD may overlap with other suppurative respiratory diseases, creating diagnostic challenges. A simple screening tool would be beneficial to identify potential patients who have chronic upper respiratory tract disease requiring further specialist evaluation. Objective To test a simple screening tool consisting of four questions to detect PCD in children with chronic otitis media and chronic rhinosinusitis seen in a tertiary otolaryngology clinic. Methods A prospective, single site, observational study in a tertiary care pediatric otolaryngology clinic. Children aged 3–17 years diagnosed with chronic otitis media or rhinosinusitis with onset at less than 2 years of age were recruited. All study subjects had at least one of four key clinical features for PCD as determined by answers to screening questions, while control subjects had none. All participants completed a medical history questionnaire and nasal nitric oxide measurements. Those with reduced nasal nitric oxide levels were referred to our PCD center for further evaluation. Results A total of 153 patients were screened and 62 subjects were enrolled. Of those, 35 were enrolled as study subjects and 27 as matched controls. Study subjects had mean age of 7.5 years (3.2–16.5) with pre-screening diagnosis of chronic otitis media (n = 29) or chronic rhinosinusitis (n = 6). Control subjects (n = 27) had mean age 7.2 years (3.0–16.3) with pre-screening diagnosis of chronic otitis media (n = 25), and chronic rhinosinusitis (n = 2). There were no differences in subject demographics or mean nasal nitric oxide values between the two groups (179.8 vs 210.8 nl/min). Ten individuals had low nasal nitric oxide values, 7 of which were normal on repeat testing. Three subjects failed to return for follow up evaluations. Four referrals were made for further evaluation on the basis of clinical symptoms and nasal nitric oxide results. While no new cases of PCD were detected, a subject and his sibling with recurrent sinopulmonary infections were referred for immunologic evaluation. Conclusion The use of standardized screening questions can be used in an otolaryngology clinic to identify patients who require further evaluation for PCD or primary immunodeficiency.

Made available in DSpace on 2020-12-12T01:58:39Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2020-02-19 Background: Pelvic floor muscles (PFM) and rectus abdominis muscles (RAM) of pregnant diabetic rats exhibit atrophy, co-localization of fast and slow fibers and an increased collagen type I/III ratio. However, the role of similar PFM or RAM hyperglycemic-related myopathy in women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) remains poorly investigated. This study aims to assess the frequency of pelvic floor muscle disorders and pregnancy-specific urinary incontinence (PS-UI) 12 months after the Cesarean (C) section in women with GDM. Specifically, differences in PFM/RAM hyperglycemic myopathy will be evaluated. Methods: The Diamater is an ongoing cohort study of four groups of 59 pregnant women each from the Perinatal Diabetes Research Centre (PDRC), Botucatu Medical School (FMB)-UNESP (São Paulo State University), Brazil. Diagnosis of GDM and PS-UI will be made at 24-26 weeks, with a follow-up at 34-38 weeks of gestation. Inclusion in the study will occur at the time of C-section, and patients will be followed at 24-48 h, 6 weeks and 6 and 12 months postpartum. Study groups will be classified as (1) GDM plus PS-UI; (2) GDM without PS-UI; (3) Non-GDM plus PS-UI; and (4) Non-GDM without PS-UI. We will analyze relationships between GDM, PS-UI and hyperglycemic myopathy at 12 months after C-section. The mediator variables to be evaluated include digital palpation, vaginal squeeze pressure, 3D pelvic floor ultrasound, and 3D RAM ultrasound. RAM samples obtained during C-section will be analyzed for ex-vivo contractility, morphological, molecular and OMICS profiles to further characterize the hyperglycemic myopathy. Additional variables to be evaluated include maternal age, socioeconomic status, educational level, ethnicity, body mass index, weight gain during pregnancy, quality of glycemic control and insulin therapy. Discussion: To our knowledge, this will be the first study to provide data on the prevalence of PS-UI and RAM and PFM physical and biomolecular muscle profiles after C-section in mothers with GDM. The longitudinal design allows for the assessment of cause-effect relationships between GDM, PS-UI, and PFMs and RAMs myopathy. The findings may reveal previously undetermined consequences of GDM. The CDF and D0 experiments at the Fermilab Tevatron have measured the asymmetry between yields of forward- and backward-produced top and antitop quarks based on their rapidity difference and the asymmetry between their decay leptons. These measurements use the full data sets collected in proton-antiproton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of √s=1.96 TeV. We report the results of combinations of the inclusive asymmetries and their differential dependencies on relevant kinematic quantities. The combined inclusive asymmetry is At¯tFB=0.128±0.025. The combined inclusive and differential asymmetries are consistent with recent standard model predictions., Physical Review Letters, 120 (4), ISSN:0031-9007, ISSN:1079-7114

This study evaluated whether by-products from industrial processing of acerola (Malpighia glabra L.; AB) and guava (Psidium guajava L.; GB) fruit may stimulate the growth and metabolism of probiotic Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium and induce changes in human colonic microbiota. The ability of non-digested and digested AB or GB to stimulate the growth ad metabolism of Lactobacillus acidophilus LA-05, Lactobacillus casei L-26 and Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis BB-12 was evaluated. Changes in populations of distinct bacterial groups of human colonic microbiota induced by digested AB and GB were evaluated using an in vitro colonic fermentation system. Non-digested and digested AB and GB favoured probiotic growth. No difference among counts of probiotics in media with glucose, fructooligosaccharides and non-digested and digested AB and GB was found during a 48-h cultivation. Cultivation of probiotics in media with non-digested and digested AB and GB resulted in decreased pH, increased organic acid production and sugar consumption over time. Digested AB and GB caused overall beneficial changes in abundance of Bifidobacterium spp., Lactobacillus-Enterococcus, Eubacterium rectall-Clostridium coccoides and Bacteroides-Provotella populations, besides to decrease the pH and increase the short-chain fatty acid production during a 24-h in vitro colonic fermentation.AB and GB could be novel prebiotic ingredients because they can stimulate the growth and metabolism of probiotics and induce overall beneficial changes in human colonic microbiota.AB and GB stimulated the growth and metabolism of probiotics, in addition to induce beneficial alterations in human colonic microbiota composition and increase short-chain fatty acid production. These results characterize AB and GB as potential prebiotic ingredients and fruit processing by-products as sources of added-value compounds.

There are regions in the world oceans where oxygen saturation is at its lowest, evident at depths between shelf to upper bathyal zone. These regions are known as Oxygen Minimum Zones (OMZs), which reportedly support phylogenetically diverse microbes. In this study, we aimed to characterize prokaryotic diversity in the water samples collected from 43, 200 and 1000 m depth of the Bay of Bengal Time Series location (BoBTS—18.0027°N, 89.0174°E) in the OMZ region. Illumina sequencing generated 3,921,854 reads of 16S rRNA gene amplicons, which corresponded to 5778 operational taxonomic units. The distribution of bacteria at class level varied with depth and oxygen concentration. α-Proteobacteria was found in abundance in 43 m and 1000 m depth water samples. γ-Proteobacteria was prominently detected in oxygen-depleted depths of 200 m and 1000 m. AB16 (Marine Group A, originally SAR406) was restricted at dissolved oxygen concentration of 1.5 μM at 200 m. Archaeal members were observed in low abundance (2%), with a high occurrence of phylum Euryarchaeota at 43 m, while Crenarchaeota was detected only at 200 m depth. Select bacterial cultures were screened for their ability to reduce nitrate in vitro, to obtain insights into their possible role in the nitrogen cycle. A total of 156 bacterial isolates clustered majorly with Alcanivorax, Bacillus, Erythrobacter, Halomonas, Idiomarina and Marinobacter. Among them, 11 bacterial genera showed positive nitrate reduction in the Griess test. A large percentage (63.55%) of 16S rRNA gene amplicons corresponded to unidentified OTUs at genus or higher taxonomic levels, suggesting a greater undiscovered prokaryotic diversity in this oxygen depleted region. Objectives: To evaluate the conditions of use of tyrosine kinase inhibitors and adherence by patients with chronic myeloid leukemia treated at a public hematology institution. Methods: This was an observational and cross-sectional study carried out from December 2015 to April 2016. Data collection was carried out through interviews with standardized questionnaires that assessed the socioeconomic and demographic profile, drug therapy and by the Morisky-Green test that assessed the green adherence. Patients over 18 years old who had been using one of the tyrosine kinase inhibitors for more than one month were included; imatinib, dasatinib or nilotinib and who signed the informed consert form, agreement to participate in study. Descriptive statistical analysis and chi-square test with Yates correction were performed. Results: 63 patients were interviewed, with a mean age of 50 years with a standard deviation of 15.95. being 60% men. As for knowledge about the aspects related to the use of inhibitors: 95.2% took at the right time, 93.7% did not use other medications concomitantly, 63.5% kept it in an appropriate place and 97% of the patients received prior guidance from the doctor about the use. As for information about treatment, 90.5% knew the purpose of taking the medication, 60% did not know the time of use, 83% did not know what would happen if they stopped taking it and 73% believed they could stop the treatment at some point. Adherence to treatment was identified 46% of patients. Conclusion: No statistically significant differences were found between having or not adherence, when compared with the studied variables.

Ostreopsis is a benthic dinoflagellate genus comprising eleven species including seven that are toxigenic. Ostreopsis lenticularis was first described from French Polynesia and is widely distributed in many insular locations from the Pacific Ocean. The current study presents morphological and molecular evidence of the presence of O. lenticularis at the Fernando de Noronha Archipelago, South Atlantic. Light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy of field cells showed morphological features in agreement with the description of O. lenticularis. Cells were broadly oval, 66.0–117.5 μm in dorso-ventral diameter, 50.0–92.5 μm in width, with thecal plates presenting two kinds of pores. Phylogenetic analyses based on LSU (D1-D3) and ITS sequences from field cells from Fernando de Noronha clustered with O. lenticularis sequences from elsewhere. The species was present in low to high abundances. The current study expands the distribution of O. lenticularis to Fernando de Noronha Archipelago in the South Atlantic Ocean.

We present evidence for the exotic charged charmoniumlike state Zc±(3900) decaying to J/ψπ± in semi-inclusive weak decays of b-flavored hadrons. The signal is correlated with a parent J/ψπ+π- system in the invariant-mass range 4.2-4.7 GeV that would include the exotic structure Y(4260). The study is based on 10.4 fb-1 of pp collision data collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. © 2018 authors. Published by the American Physical Society.

We present a measurement of the effective weak mixing angle parameter sin(2)theta(l)(eff) in p (p) over bar -> Z/gamma* -> mu(+)mu(-) events at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV, collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider and corresponding to 8.6 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity. The measured value of sin(2)theta(l)(eff)[mu mu] = 0.23016 +/- 0.00064 is further combined with the result from the D0 measurement in p (p) over bar -> Z/gamma* -> e(+)e(-) events, resulting in sin(2)theta(l)(eff)[comb] = 0.23095 +/- 0.00040. This combined result is the most precise measurement from a single experiment at a hadron collider and is the most precise determination using the coupling of the Z/gamma* to light quarks.

We present a study of the X±(5568) using semileptonic decays of the Bs0 meson using the full run II integrated luminosity of 10.4 fb-1 in proton-antiproton collisions at a center of mass energy of 1.96 TeV collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We report evidence for a narrow structure, X±(5568), in the decay sequence X±(5568)→Bs0π± where Bs0→μ∓Ds±X, Ds±→ϕπ± which is consistent with the previous measurement by the D0 Collaboration in the hadronic decay mode, X±(5568)→Bs0π± where Bs0→J/ψϕ. The mass and width of this state are measured using a combined fit of the hadronic and semileptonic data, yielding m=5566.9-3.1+3.2(stat)-1.2+0.6(syst) MeV/c2, Γ=18.6-6.1+7.9(stat)-3.8+3.5(syst) MeV/c2 with a significance of 6.7σ.

RFamide-related peptide-3 (RFRP-3), the orthologue of avian gonadotrophin-inhibitory hormone, and its receptor GPR147 have been recently identified in the human hypothalamus, and their roles in the regulation of reproductive axis has been studied. The present study aimed to investigate whether the presence of variants in the genes encoding human RFRP-3 (NPVF gene) and its receptor, GPR147 (NPFFR1 gene), is associated with the occurrence of gonadotrophin-releasing hormone-dependent pubertal disorders. Seventy-eight patients with idiopathic central precocious puberty (CPP) and 51 with normosmic isolated hypogonadotrophic hypogonadism (nIHH) were investigated. Fifty healthy subjects comprised the control group. The coding sequences of the NPVF and NPFFR1 genes were amplified and sequenced. Odds ratios (OR) were used to estimate the likelihood of CPP or nIHH in the presence of the described polymorphisms. All such polymorphisms have already been registered in the National Center for Biotechnology Information database. A three-nucleotide in frame deletion was identified in the NPVF gene (p.I71_K72), with a smaller proportion in the CPP (5%) compared to the nIHH (15%) group (P = 0.06). This results in the deletion of the isoleucine at position 71, adjacent to lysine at an endoproteolytic cleavage site of the precursor peptide. This polymorphism was associated with a lower risk of CPP (OR = 0.33; 95% confidence interval = 0.08-0.88); interestingly, only two men with nIHH were homozygotes for this variant. A total of five missense polymorphisms were found in the NPFFR1 gene, which encodes GPR147, with similar frequencies among groups and no association with pubertal timing. Our data suggest that RFRP-3/GPR147 may play secondary, modulatory roles on the regulation of pubertal development; a restraining modulatory effect of the NPVF p.I71_K72 variant on the activation of the gonadotrophic axis cannot be ruled out and deserves further investigation.
