Abstract: An abnormal production of events with almost equal-sized fragments was theoretically proposed as a signature of spinodal instabilities responsible for nuclear multifragmentation in the Fermi energy domain. On the other hand finite size effects are predicted to strongly reduce this abnormal production. High statistics quasifusion hot nuclei produced in central collisions between Xe and Sn isotopes at 32 and 45 A MeV incident energies have been used to definitively establish, through the experimental measurement of charge correlations, the presence of spinodal instabilities. Abstract: We report on first experimental observations of nuclear fermionic and bosonic components displaying different behaviours in the decay of hot Ca projectile-like sources produced in mid-peripheral collisions at sub-Fermi energies. The experimental setup, constituted by the coupling of the INDRA 4π detector array to the forward angle VAMOS magnetic spectrometer, allowed to reconstruct the mass, charge and excitation energy of the decaying hot projectile-like sources. By means of quantum-fluctuation analysis techniques, temperatures and local partial densities of bosons and fermions could be correlated to the excitation energy of the reconstructed system. The results are consistent with the production of dilute mixed systems of bosons and fermions, where bosons experience higher phase-space and energy density as compared to the surrounding fermionic gas. Our findings recall phenomena observed in the study of Bose condensates and Fermi gases in atomic traps despite the different scales.

Abstract: The isospin diffusion of the quasi-projectile formed in the $^{64,58}Ni$ on $^{64,58}Ni$ reactions in the Fermi energy domain is investigated in the framework of the Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck transport model. The well known isospin transport ratio observable is revisited, with the aim of insuring an optimal comparison between experimental data and theoretical calculations and reducing the present uncertainties in the extraction of empirical equation of state parameters. We show that isospin transport ratios are sensitive to all the low order isovector parameters ($E_{sym}$, $L_{sym}$ and $K_{sym}$). We demonstrate that realistic models of the equation of state, covering the uncertainty that presently affects the theoretical description of neutron stars static observables, can be effectively discriminated by isospin diffusion experiments, provided the neutron to proton ratio of the projectile remnant is precisely measured as a function of centrality., 5 pages, 5 figures

Abstract: We present a model-independent method to reconstruct the impact parameter distributions of experimental data for intermediate energy heavy ion collisions, adapted from a recently proposed approach for ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions. The method takes into account the fluctuations which are inherent to the relationship between any experimental observable and the impact parameter in this energy range. We apply the method to the very large dataset on heavy ion collisions in the energy range 20-100 MeV/nucleon obtained with the INDRA multidetector since 1993, for two observables which are the most commonly used for the estimation of impact parameters in this energy range. The mean impact parameters deduced with this new method for "central" collisions selected using typical observable cuts are shown to be significantly larger than those found when fluctuations are neglected, and as expected the difference increases as bombarding energy decreases. In addition, we will show that this new approach may provide previously inaccessible experimental constraints for transport models, such as an estimation of the extrapolated mean value of experimental observables for b = 0 collisions. The ability to give more realistic, model-independent, estimations of the impact parameters associated to different experimental datasets should improve the pertinence of comparisons with transport model calculations which are essential to better constrain the equation of state of nuclear matter., 14 pages, 7 figures. Abstract: International audience; The neutron-proton (n-p) equilibration process in Ca48+Ca40 at 35 MeV/nucleon bombarding energy is experimentally estimated by means of the isospin transport ratio. Experimental data are collected with a subset of the FAZIA telescope array, which permits us to determine the Z and N of detected fragments. For the first time, the quasiprojectile (QP) evaporative channel is compared with the QP breakup one in a homogeneous and consistent way, pointing to comparable n-p equilibration, which suggests a close interaction time between projectile and target independently of the exit channel. Moreover, in the QP evaporative channel n-p equilibration is compared with the prediction of the antisymmetrized molecular dynamics model coupled with the Gemini statistical model as an afterburner, showing a higher probability of proton and neutron transfers in the simulation with respect to the experimental data.

Abstract: Experimental results concerning the dynamical fission of quasiprojectiles in semiperipheral collisions for the system Kr80+Ca48 at 35 MeV/nucleon are presented. Data have been collected with four blocks of the FAZIA setup in the first physics experiment of the FAZIA Collaboration. The degree of isospin equilibration between the two fission fragments and its dependence on their charge asymmetry is investigated. The data are compared with the results of the AMD model coupled to GEMINI as an afterburner, in order to get hints about the timescale of the process.

Abstract: By using freeze-out properties of multifragmenting hot nuclei produced in quasifusion central $^{129}$Xe+$^{nat}$Sn collisions at different beam energies (32, 39, 45 and 50 AMeV) which were estimated by means of a simulation based on experimental data collected by the $4\pi$ INDRA multidetector, heat capacity in the thermal excitation energy range 4 - 12.5 AMeV was calculated from total kinetic energies and multiplicities at freeze-out. The microcanonical formulation was employed. Abstract: Proton energy calibration and identification efficiency of few Thallium activated Cesium Iodide (CsI(Tl)) crystals of the FAZIA detection system, have been studied in the range 59-180 MeV by using the proton beam delivered by the cyclotron of the CCB (Cyclotron Center Bronowice) facility. We observe that the light output versus energy is linear in the lower investigated energy range while showing a deviation from linearity above 140 MeV. The effects of proton induced nuclear reactions and multiple scattering causing incomplete energy deposition (IED) events have been identified and estimated via Pulse Shape Analysis in CsI(Tl) crystals. The measured experimental efficiency for proton identification in the examined energy range is then compared with GEANT4 simulations. For a centered collimated irradiation on the crystal, and at the highest measured energy, the resulting experimental efficiency value is about 70%.

Abstract: Equilibrium constants for Hydrogen and Helium isotopes as a function of density and temperature are measured in the framework of the study made by Qin et al. [Qin L et al 2012 Phys. Rev. Lett. 108 172701]. We review and comment on all stages of the analysis and conclude that our measurements are not inconsistent with Qin et al. results. Abstract: Background: The isovector part of the nuclear equation of state remains partly unknown and is the subject of many studies. The degree of equilibration between the two main collision partners in heavy ion reactions may be used to study the equation of state since it is connected to isospin (N/Z) transport properties of nuclear matter. Purpose: We aim to test chemical equilibrium attainment by measuring isotopic characteristics of emitted elements as a function of impact parameter. Method: We study four Xe136,124+Sn124,112 reactions at 32 MeV/nucleon. The data were acquired with the INDRA detector at the GANIL (Caen, France) facility. Combined (projectile+target) systems are identical for two studied reactions, therefore it is possible to study the path towards chemical equilibrium from different neutron to proton ratio (N/Z) entrance channels. The study is limited to identified isotopes detected in the forward part of the center of mass in order to focus on the evolution of projectile-like fragment isotopic content and the benefit of excellent detection performances of the forward part of the apparatus. Results: Light charged particle productions, multiplicities, and abundance ratios dependence against impact parameter are studied. It is measured to almost identical mean characteristics for the two Xe124+Sn124 and Xe136+Sn112 systems for central collisions. Comparing all four studied systems it is shown that mean values evolve from projectile N/Z to projectile+target N/Z dependence. Those identical mean characteristics concern all light charged particles except He3 whose mean behavior is strongly different. Conclusions: Our inclusive analysis (no event selection) shows that N/Z equilibration between the projectile-like and the target-like is realized to a high degree for central collisions. The light charged particle production mean value difference between Xe124+Sn124 and Xe136+Sn112 systems for central collisions is of the order of a few %. This slight difference could be explained by pre-equilibrium particle emission whose intensity may differ for the two reactions. This point is demonstrated using He3 mean characteristics whose production takes place before chemical equilibrium attainment. The realized N/Z balance between projectile-like and target-like does not imply a pure two-body mechanism. Indeed a midrapidity production of light charged particle does exist and its N/Z is different as compared to the projectile-like one: it is n enriched. This point is touched using He6 midrapidity production which is favored by the drift phenomenon.

Abstract: In the domain of Fermi energy, the hot nucleus temperature can be determined by using the energy spectra of evaporated light charged particles. But this method of measurement is not without difficulties both theoretical and experimental. The presented study aims to disentangle the respective influences of different factors on the quality of this measurement : the physics, the detection (a 4? detector array as INDRA) and the experimental procedure. This analysis demonstrates the possibility of determining from an energy spectrum, with an accuracy of about 10 %, the true apparent temperature felt by a given type of particle emitted by a hot nucleus. Three conditions are however necessary : have a perfect detector of particles, an important statistics and very few secondary emissions. According to the GEMINI event generator, for hot nuclei of intermediate mass, only deuterons and tritons could fill these conditions. This temperature can allow to trace back to the initial temperature by using an appropriate method. This determination may be better than 15 %. With a real experimental device, an insufficient angular resolution and topological distortions caused by the detection can damage spectra to the point to make very difficult a correct determination of the apparent temperature. Abstract: The goal of the FAZIA Collaboration is the design of a new-generation 4π detector array for heavy-ion collisions with radioactive beams. This article summarizes the main results of the R&D phase, devoted to the search for significant improvements of the techniques for charge and mass identification of reaction products. This was obtained by means of a systematic study of the basic detection module, consisting of two transmission-mounted silicon detectors followed by a CsI(Tl) scintillator. Significant improvements in ΔE-E and pulse-shape techniques were obtained by controlling the doping homogeneity and the cutting angles of silicon and by putting severe constraints on thickness uniformity. Purposely designed digital electronics contributed to identification quality. The issue of possible degradation related to radiation damage of silicon was also addressed. The experimental activity was accompanied by studies on the physics governing signal evolution in silicon. The good identification quality obtained with the prototypes during the R&D phase, allowed us to investigate also some aspects of isospin physics, namely isospin transport and odd-even staggering. Now, after the conclusion of the R&D period, the FAZIA Collaboration has entered the demonstrator phase, with the aim of verifying the applicability of the devised solutions for the realization of a larger-scale experimental set-up.

Abstract: International audience; The NUCL-EX collaboration is carrying out an extensive research program on preequilibrium emission of light charged particles from hot nuclei. The ultimate goal is to study how cluster structures affect nuclear reactions [1,2,3,4]. Indeed, a strong correlation between nuclear structure and reaction dynamics emerges when some nucleons or clusters of nucleons are emitted or captured [5]. At this purpose, the four reactions 16O+30Si, 16O+30Si, 18O+28Si and 19F +27Al have been measured at about 120 MeV projectile energy. Experimental data were collected at Legnaro National Laboratories, using the GARFIELD+RCo array, fully equipped with digital electronics [6]. Following an initial identification of particles and the energy calibration procedures, the complete analysis is being performed on an event-by-event basis. Experimental data are then compared to the theoretical predictions where events are generated by numerical codes based on pre-equilibrium and statistical models and then filtered through a software replica of the setup. Differences between the experimental data and the predicted data put into evidence effects related to the entrance channel and to the cluster nature of the colliding ions. After a general introduction on the experimental campaign, this contribution will focus on the preliminary results obtained so far.

Abstract: International audience; This article presents a new semi-automatic method for charge and mass identification of charged nuclear fragments using either ∆E − E correlations between measured energy losses in two successive detectors or correlations between charge signal amplitude and rise time in a single silicon detector, derived from digital pulse shape analysis techniques. In both cases different nuclear species (defined by their atomic number Z and mass number A) can be visually identified from such correlations if they are presented as a two-dimensional histogram (’identification matrix’), in which case correlations for different species populate different ridge lines (’identification lines’) in the matrix. The proposed algorithm is based on the identification matrix’s properties and uses as little information as possible on the global form of the identification lines, making it applicable to a large variety of matrices. Particular attention has been paid to the implementation in a suitable graphical environment, so that only two mouse-clicks are required from the user to calculate all initialization parameters. Example applications to recent data from both INDRA and FAZIA telescopes are presented.

Abstract: A new technique of large-area thin ion implanted silicon detectors has been developed within the R&D performed by the FAZIA Collaboration. The essence of the technique is the application of a low-temperature baking process instead of high-temperature annealing. This thermal treatment is performed after B+ ion implantation and Al evaporation of detector contacts, made by using a single adjusted Al mask. Extremely thin silicon pads can be therefore obtained. The thickness distribution along the X and Y directions was measured for a prototype chip by the energy loss of α-particles from 241Am (〈E α 〉 = 5.5 MeV). Preliminary tests on the first thin detector (area ≈ 20 × 20 mm2) were performed at the INFN-LNS cyclotron in Catania (Italy) using products emitted in the heavy-ion reaction 84Kr (E = 35 A MeV) + 112Sn. The ΔE − E ion identification plot was obtained using a telescope consisting of our thin ΔE detector (21 μm thick) followed by a typical FAZIA 510 μm E detector of the same active area. The charge distribution of measured ions is presented together with a quantitative evaluation of the quality of the Z resolution. The threshold is lower than 2 A MeV depending on the ion charge.

Abstract: The response of silicon-silicon-CsI(Tl) telescopes, developed within the FAZIA collaboration, to fragments produced in nuclear reactions 84 Krþ 120-124 Sn at 35 A MeV, has been used to study ion identification methods. Two techniques are considered for the identification of the nuclear products in the silicon stages. The standard DEE one requires signals induced in two detection layers by ions punching through the first one. Conversely, the digital Pulse Shape Analysis (PSA) allows the identification of ions stopped in the first silicon layer. The capabilities of these two identification methods have been compared for different mountings of the silicons, i.e. rear (particles entering through the low electric field side) or front (particles entering through the high electric field side) side injection. The DEE identification method gives exactly the same results in both configurations. At variance, the pulse shape discrimination is very sensitive to the detector mounting. In case of rear side injection, the identification with the ''energy vs. charge rise time'' PSA method presents energy thresholds which are significantly lower than in the case of front side injection. & 2012 Elsevier B.V. Abstract: The equation of state of asymmetric nuclear matter is still controversial, as predictions at subsaturation as well as above normal density widely diverge. We discuss several experimental results measured in heavy-ion collisions with the INDRA array in the incident energy range 5-80 MeV/nucleon. In particular an estimate of the density dependence of the symmetry energy is derived from isospin diffusion results compared with a transport code: the potential part of the symmetry energy linearly increases with the density. We demonstrate that isospin equilibrium is reached in mid-central collisions for the two reactions Ni+Au at 52 MeV/nucleon and Xe+Sn at 32 MeV/nucleon. Abstract: Isotopic ratios for light fragments (Z≤4) emitted by the quasiprojectile (QP) and the mid-rapidity (MR) sources are investigated by the use of a slightly asymmetric system (Ar36+Ni58) and a symmetric one (Ni58+Ni58) for six energies between 32A and 84A MeV and three semiperipheral centrality range selections. Experimental data come from the INDRA 4π multidetector. The results show a clear neutron-rich isotope production from the MR region as compared to the QP source. The beam energy and the centrality also show interesting different trends depending on the charge of the fragments and the emission source. Experimental results are compared to antisymmetrized molecular dynamics simulations.

Abstract: This paper presents the problem of outdoor vehicle localization during unusual maneuvers with the Interacting Multiple Model (IMM) and Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) approaches. IMM, contrary to classical methods, is based on the discretization of the vehicle evolution space into simple maneuvers. Each maneuver is represented by a simple dynamic model such as a constant velocity or a constant turning model. This allows the method to be optimized for highly dynamic vehicles. In this work, we focus on unusual vehicle maneuvers during some special driving situations, including very strong accelerations, high speed turnings or backwards driving with stop stages. The presented results are based on real measurements collected from different scenarios. Based on an EKF vs. IMM comparison, these results show a real interest of using the IMM method in order to take into account unusual maneuvers.

Abstract: The european Fazia collaboration aims at building a new modular array for charged product identification to be employed for heavy-ion studies. The elementary module of the array is a Silicon-Silicon-CsI telescope, optimized for ion identification also via pulse shape analysis. The achievement of top performances imposes specific electronics which has been developed by FAZIA and features high quality charge and current preamplifiers, coupled to fully digital front-end. During the initial R&D phase, original and novel solutions have been tested in prototypes, obtaining unprecedented ion identification capabilities. FAZIA is now constructing a demonstrator array consisting of about two hundreds telescopes arranged in a compact and transportable configuration. In this contribution, we mainly summarize some aspects studied by FAZIA to improve the ion identification. Then we will briefly discuss the FAZIA program centered on experiments to be done with the demonstrator. Abstract: Isospin transport phenomena in dissipative heavy ion collisions have been investigated at Fermi energies with a beam of 84Kr at 35AMeV. A comparison of the /Z of light and medium products forward-emitted in the centre of mass frame when the beam impinges on a n-poor 112Sn and a n-rich 124Sn targets is presented. Data were collected by means of a three-layer telescope with very good performances in terms of mass identification (full isotopic resolution up to Z about 20 for ions punching through the first detector layer) built by the FAZIA Collaboration and located just beyond the grazing angle for both reactions. The /Z of the decay products emitted when the n-rich target is used is always higher than that associated to the n-poor one. Since the detector was able to measure only fragments coming from the QuasiProjectile decay and/or neck emission, the observed behaviour can be ascribed to the isospin diffusion, driven by the isospin gradient between QuasiProjectile and QuasiTarget. Moreover, for light fragments the /Z as a function of the lab velocity of the fragment increases when we move from the QuasiProjectile velocity to the centre of mass (neck zone). Abstract: The response of silicon–silicon–CsI(Tl) telescopes, developed within the FAZIA collaboration, to fragments produced in nuclear reactions 84Kr+120-124Sn at 35 A MeV, has been used to study ion identification methods. Two techniques are considered for the identification of the nuclear products in the silicon stages. The standard ΔE−E one requires signals induced in two detection layers by ions punching through the first one. Conversely, the digital Pulse Shape Analysis (PSA) allows the identification of ions stopped in the first silicon layer. The capabilities of these two identification methods have been compared for different mountings of the silicons, i.e. rear (particles entering through the low electric field side) or front (particles entering through the high electric field side) side injection. The ΔE−E identification method gives exactly the same results in both configurations. At variance, the pulse shape discrimination is very sensitive to the detector mounting. In case of rear side injection, the identification with the “energy vs. charge rise time” PSA method presents energy thresholds which are significantly lower than in the case of front side injection.

Abstract: A study of the identification properties and of the energy response of a Si-Si-CsI(Tl) $\Delta$ E-E telescope exploiting a partially depleted second Si stage has been performed. Five different bias voltages have been applied to the second stage of the telescope, one corresponding to full depletion, the others associated with a depleted layer ranging from 60% to 90% of the detector thickness. Fragment identification has been obtained using either the $\Delta$E-E technique or the Pulse Shape Analysis (PSA). Charge collection efficiency has been evaluated. The $\Delta$ E-E performance is not affected by incomplete depletion. Isotopic separation capability improves at lower bias voltages with respect to full depletion, though charge identification thresholds increase.

Abstract: This paper aims to analyze two major quantities related to the performances of IEEE 802.11p-based vehicle ad hoc networks (VANETs): the mean number of simultaneous transmitters and the distribution of the distance between them. The first quantity is directly related to the network capacity as it limits the number of frames transmitted in the network at the same time. The second quantity is a crucial element to describe interference generated by the simultaneous transmitters and to deduce important wireless properties such as the signal-to-noise-plus-interference ratio, bit error rate (BER), and the frame error rate (FER). We propose two different models to approach these quantities: an extension of the Renyi's packing model and a Markovian point process. Our theoretical propositions are compared with the performance of simulations with the network simulator ns-3 and show good agreement. In addition, we have also incorporated two new models in ns-3. The radio model has been set according to real experimentations. These experimentations involved two vehicles equipped with IEEE 802.11p wireless cards. Moreover, we used a realistic vehicle traffic simulator, emulating highway traffic, which we have combined with ns-3.

Abstract: Isotopic ratios for light fragments ($Z\ensuremath{\le}4$) emitted by the quasiprojectile (QP) and the mid-rapidity (MR) sources are investigated by the use of a slightly asymmetric system ($^{36}\mathrm{Ar}+^{58}\mathrm{Ni}$) and a symmetric one ($^{58}\mathrm{Ni}+^{58}\mathrm{Ni}$) for six energies between 32A and 84A MeV and three semiperipheral centrality range selections. Experimental data come from the INDRA $4\ensuremath{\pi}$ multidetector. The results show a clear neutron-rich isotope production from the MR region as compared to the QP source. The beam energy and the centrality also show interesting different trends depending on the charge of the fragments and the emission source. Experimental results are compared to antisymmetrized molecular dynamics simulations.

31. Collision avoidance improvement using a risky area

Abstract: The approach presented in this paper deals with the safety while driving. Keeping a headway distance between two vehicles is mandatory in order to avoid a collision. It is also important to take into account the length of the concerned vehicle mainly if a sudden break occurs. The idea of zone of collision is therefore useful. An estimate of vehicles location and their respective uncertainty is first computed then area of collision is performed using the length of the vehicles and the probability density function of their position. Other ADAS application such as ACC, collision avoidance, lane change assistance… can be improved. Thank to this concept a driver can react immediately once getting close to the estimated risky zone.

Abstract: International audience; In this contribution, we propose a new Coulomb chronometer suitablefor three-fragment exit channels. We use this chronometer toextract the evolution of the fragment emission time in 129Xe+catSncentral collisions from 12 to 25 MeV/A bombarding energy. Theinvolved time scale becomes compatible with simultaneous threefragmentbreak-up above E∗ = 4.0 ± 0.5 MeV/A, which can be interpretedas the energy required for the onset of multifragmentation.

Abstract: Expérience GANIL/E613; International audience; The role of collective radial expansion in determining multifragmentationpartition properties has previously been explored by comparingdifferent-sized sources of the same excitation energy per nucleonformed by very different reaction mechanisms: excited quasi-projectilesfrom semi-peripheral Au+Au collisions and quasi-fused sources fromcentral Xe+Sn collisions. New data has been obtained with INDRAon 181Ta+66Zn collisions in order to allow comparison of Xe+Sn datawith quasi-fused systems having the same mass, charge and excitationenergy per nucleon formed in mass-asymmetric reactions, for which asmaller initial compression is expected. Preliminary results confirmthat, ceteris paribus, smaller radial flow leads to less fragments withmore asymmetric partitions.

Abstract: We present an analysis of multifragmentation events observed in central Xe+Sn reactions at Fermi energies. Performing a comparison between the predictions of the Stochastic Mean Field (SMF) transport model and experimental data, we investigate the impact of the compression-expansion dynamics on the properties of the final reaction products. We show that the amount of radial collective expansion, which characterizes the dynamical stage of the reaction, influences directly the onset of multifragmentation and the kinematic properties of multifragmentation events. For the same set of events we also undertake a shape analysis in momentum space, looking at the degree of stopping reached in the collision, as proposed in recent experimental studies. We show that full stopping is achieved for the most central collisions at Fermi energies. However, considering the same central event selection as in the experimental data, we observe a similar behavior of the stopping power with the beam energy, which can be associated with a change of the fragmentation mechanism, from statistical to prompt fragment emission., Comment: 15 pages

Abstract: International audience; The fission dynamics described by solving differential equations of the Langevin type in three dimensional space of the deformation parameters is very sensitive on the choice of the macroscopic components such as potential energy models. The mass or charge distribution or total kinetic energy has been already shown to be different when one uses the Finite Range Liquid Drop Model or Lublin - Strasbourg Drop model. Also the shape-dependent congruence or shape-dependentWigner energy and A0 terms are important especially for the fission of medium mass nuclei. We would like to make step forward and answer the question about the varying of the post-scission multiplicity by including different PES. Up to now there are only few experimental data for the medium mass nuclei where the pre- and post- scission emission has been estimated and isotopic distributions have been shown. The isotopic distributions of the fission products for light compound nucleus such as 111 In with two beam energies (Ebeam = 10.6AMeV and 5.9 AMeV) and two heavy systems: 229Np with Ebeam = 7.4AMeV and 260 No (Ebeam = 6AMeV and 7.5 AMeV) have been studied theoretically. The agreement with the experimental data is discussed.

Abstract: In Xe+Sn central collisions from 12 to 20 MeV/A measured with the INDRA 4$\pi$ multidetector, the three-fragment exit channel occurs with a significant cross section. In this contribution, we show that these fragments arise from two successive binary splittings of a heavy composite system. Strong Coulomb proximity effects are observed in the three-fragment final state. By comparison with Coulomb trajectory calculations, we show that the time scale between the consecutive break-ups decreases with increasing bombarding energy, becoming compatible with quasi-simultaneous multifragmentation above 18 MeV/A., Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures, contribution to conference proceedings of the Fifth International Workshop on Nuclear fission and Fission-Product Spectroscopy

Abstract: In this paper, an innovative collaborative data fusion approach to ego-vehicle localization is presented. This approach called Optimized Kalman Swarm (OKS) is a data fusion and filtering method, fusing data from a low cost GPS, an INS, an Odometer and a Steering wheel angle encoder. The OKS is developed addressing the challenge of managing reactivity and robustness during a real time ego-localization process. For ego-vehicle localization, especially for highly dynamic on-road maneuvers, a filter needs to be robust and reactive at the same time. In these situations, the balance between reactivity and robustness concepts is crucial. The OKS filter represents an intelligent cooperative-reactive localization algorithm inspired by dynamic Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). It combines advantages coming from two filters: Particle Filter (PF) and Extended Kalman filter (EKF). The OKS is tested using real embedded sensors data collected in the Satory’s test tracks. The OKS is also compared with both the well-known EKF and the Particle Filters (PF). The results show the efficiency of the OKS for a high dynamic driving scenario with damaged and low quality GPS data.

Abstract: In this contribution we show that the biggest fragment charge distribution in central collisions of Xe+Sn leading to multifragmentation is an admixture of two asymptotic distributions observed for the lowest and highest bombarding energies. The evolution of the relative weights of the two components with bombarding energy is shown to be analogous to that observed as a function of time for the largest cluster produced in irreversible aggregation for a finite system. Abstract: This paper describes the development of a filter algorithm based on the behaviour of biological swarms. The main goal of the algorithm is to perform vehicle localization by combining the data from different sensors — GPS, IMU, speedometers, etc. — and digital maps. In this sense, the algorithm considers several solutions at the same time like Particles Filters. The algorithm has been developed off-line using real data captured from an instrumented vehicle at LIVIC. Performance of the algorithm has been validated and compared with and EKF with encouraging results.

Abstract: International audience; This paper presents the design and first test on a simulator of a vehicle trajectory-planning algorithm that adapts to traffic on a lane-structured infrastructure such as highways. The proposed algorithm is designed to run on a fail-safe embedded environment with low computational power, such as an engine control unit, to be implementable in commercial vehicles of the near future. The target platform has a clock frequency of less than 150 MHz, 150 kB RAM of memory, and a 3-MB program memory. The trajectory planning is performed by a two-step algorithm. The first step defines the feasible maneuvers with respect to the environment, aiming at minimizing the risk of a collision. The output of this step is a target group of maneuvers in the longitudinal direction (accelerating or decelerating), in the lateral direction (changing lanes), and in the combination of both directions. The second step is a more detailed evaluation of several possible trajectories within these maneuvers. The trajectories are optimized to additional performance indicators such as travel time, traffic rules, consumption, and comfort. The output of this module is a trajectory in the vehicle frame that represents the recommended vehicle state (position, heading, speed, and acceleration) for the following seconds.

Abstract: International audience; In this article we provide experimental evidence of an interference phenomenon that, to the best of our knowledge, has so far not been observed with either matter or light. In a nanometer-sized version of Feynman's famous two-slit “thought” experiment with single electrons, we managed to observe that the width of a quasimonochromatic line oscillates with the detection angle. Furthermore, we find that it occurs in counterphase with the line intensity. We discuss the underlying mechanism that produces this unexpected result.

Abstract: International audience; Driving safety enhancement could be achieved by better understanding of risk situations from the knowledge of vehicle dynamic states as well as road geometry. Among the parameters of the road that have an impact on vehicle dynamics, one can find the bank and the slope angles, which can not however be measured by mean of low cost onboard sensors. This work of this paper is aimed to improve the controllability of the vehicle and the development of a low cost mapping system of the roadway. Two observers are developed firstly to estimate these two variables and secondly to localize the vehicle. The road attributes are estimated using an extended Kalman filter (EKF) and a Proportional Integral (PI) observer with unknown inputs based vehicle models and the measurements obtained from inertial (INS) and ABS sensors. The vehicle localization is performed at each time sample using an algorithm based on the IMM technique (Interacting Multiple Models), it allows to reconstruct the road shape in 3 dimensions. Testing on measurements obtained with a prototype vehicle show the good behavior of the proposed estimation scheme.

Abstract: This paper presents a new method for the detection and 3D reconstruction of the road lane using onboard stereovision. The proposed algorithm makes it possible to overcome the assumptions commonly used in most of the detection systems using monocular vision such as: flat road, constant pitch angle or absence of roll angle. The proposed method of detection and 3D reconstruction is based on two modules. The first one is aimed at detecting the road markings of the lane in each image of the stereoscopic pair. It is based on a recognition algorithm driven by a statistical model of the road lane: the initial state of the model is obtained after a learning stage; it is updated using the results of a feature extraction stage. Our model takes into account the intrinsic links between the projections of the road in the two images of the stereoscopic pair, so that its update from a feature extracted in one of two images drives the detection of the features in the other image. No disparity map is required since the matching of the road features is directly obtained as the result of the model update. The second module is aimed at 3D reconstruction and relative localization of the vehicle with respect to its lane. The parameters of a 3D surface including the horizontal and vertical profiles of the road lane are estimated from the road borders previously detected. The robustness of the algorithm is evaluated from synthetic and real images.

Abstract: This paper presents the localization problem of outdoor vehicles using Interacting Multiple Model (IMM) and Extended Kalman Filter (EKF), in their predictive step without exteroceptive sensors data. Usually, hybridization operates between exteroceptive sensors (e.g. GNSS) and proprioceptive sensors (e.g. Odometer, Inertial Measurement Unit etc.) through a merging algorithm. Common experiments use the GPS receiver PPS time for stamping the odometric, gyrometric and IMU measurements, after what all these sensors are in the same UTC reference time. Now it is well known that the low cost GNSS devices have a very low frequency compared to proprioceptive sensors, combined to a low accuracy. Therefore in order to assess the vehicle positioning at higher frequency for safety applications, the sensors measurements are generally synchronized before being exploited in the merging algorithm. In our approach, the sensors remain in their original frequencies. The objective is to design a reliable and robust system that exploits asynchronous data. In order to reach this goal it is important to guarantee accuracy and integrity of filters even during the predictive steps, when exteroceptive GNSS data are not available: that is proprioceptive-sensors based positioning. We introduce in this paper, a study on the influence of the road bank angle assessment on the output. This parameter is used to correct the gyrometric and inertial unit measurements leading to an improvement of both IMM and EKF predictive output positioning. Tests performed with real data proved the suitability of introducing this parameter in the system.

Abstract: This paper presents the problematic of outdoor vehicle localization in unusual maneuvers under the IMM (interacting multiple model) approach. The IMM, contrary to the non modular methods, is based on the discretization of the vehicle evolution space into simple maneuvers, represented each by a simple dynamic model such as constant velocity or constant turning etc. This allows the method to be optimized for highly dynamic vehicles. In this work, we focus on the various vehicle dynamics identification in some special driving situations, including very strong accelerations, turning with a high speed (more than 15 mldrs-1) or backward driving with stops. The presented results are based on real measurements collected from different scenarios. These results show a real interest in using the IMM method in order to reach our goal.

Abstract: In order to navigate safely, it is important to detect and to react to a potentially dangerous situation. Such a situation can be underlined by a judicious use of the locations and the uncertainties of both the navigating vehicle and the obstacles. We propose to build an estimation of the collision probability from the environment perception with its probabilistic modelling. Then this probability is used for updating a braking order applied to our vehicle either to avoid or to mitigate a collision. The probability of collision is computed from a product of integrals of a product of Gaussians. The integrals take into account the uncertain configurations and the volume of both the vehicle and the obstacles.

Abstract: This paper presents the problematic of localization under the IMM (Interacting Multiple Model) approach. The localization is often tackled under the accuracy problem. In order to achieve the goal of the assessment of an accurate ego localization, one often uses the merging of data coming from both exteroceptive and proprioceptive sensors. In our approach, we don't focuss much on the accuracy, but more especially on both the confidence and the robustness of this positioning. In fact, the IMM approach is based on the discretization of the vehicle evolution space into simple maneuvers, represented each by a simple dynamic model. In order to reach our objective using IMM, we assume that at every time period the true mode under which the vehicle goes is represented. After a review of different traditional filters used in vehicle localization, an IMM method is proposed and the comparison is mainly based on some robustness criteria that are presented in this paper.

Abstract: The aim of this paper is to carry out a comparison between several algorithms of the Kalman filters family for nonlinear systems. Alter having presented the most popular of them and showed its limitations, we introduce some new Kalman filters and compare them for the vehicle localization problem. This comparison is based on the predictive step what corresponds to the worst case that it can occur in vehicle localization. Typically, when we achieve a vehicle tracking, if the tracked vehicle is hidden, corrective data are unavailable and therefore the corrective step is disable (time data alignment)
