1. Smart distribution network voltage estimation using PMU technology considering zero injection constraints.

Abstract: To properly control the network of the power system and ensure its protection, Phasor measurement units (PMUs) must be used to monitor the network's operation. PMUs can provide synchronized real-time measurements. These measurements can be used for state estimation, fault detection and diagnosis, and other grid control applications. Conventional state estimation methods use weighting factors to balance the different types of measurements, and zero injection measurements can lead to large weighting factors that can introduce computational errors. The offered methods are designed to ensure that these zero injection criteria can be strictly satisfied while calculating the voltage profile and observability of the various distribution networks without sacrificing computing efficiency. The proposed method's viability is assessed using standard IEEE distribution networks. MATLAB coding is used to simulate the case analyses. Overall, the study provides a valuable contribution to the field of power distribution system monitoring and control by simplifying the process of determining the optimal locations for PMUs in a distribution network and assessing the impact of ZI buses on the voltage profile of the system.

2. Remineralizing effect of commercially available two herbal dentifrices on human teeth-An in vitro evaluation

Abstract: Background: Dental caries is most prevalent oral infections worldwide, characterized by a progressive demineralization that affects the mineralized dental tissues. Although the decline of dental caries prevalence can be attributed to the widespread use of dentifrices that contain fluoride, there is a need for an advanced alternative fluoride remineralizing dentifrice preferably, herbal-based dentifrices. Aim: To investigate and compare the remineralization effect of demineralized human enamel using two herbal toothpastes via in vitro method. Materials and Methods: An in vitro study was conducted on 40 extracted natural teeth. Crowns and roots were sectioned at cementoenamel junction, and crowns were further sectioned to buccal and lingual halves. All the teeth samples were examined for baseline hardness level by Vickers hardness tester. Samples were kept for demineralization continuously for 48 h and postdemineralization hardness values were also evaluated. Samples randomly divided and allocated into two groups for remineralization procedure. Group A -Dabur Red (N = 20) and Group B - Patanjali Dant Kanti (N = 20). Remineralization using two dentifrice slurries was performed for 10 days and postremineralization hardness estimated. Data were collected and analyzed using Student's unpaired t-test and analysis of variance (ANOVA). Intergroup analysis was done using Student's t-test and intragroup analysis at baseline, demineralization and remineralization was done using ANOVA. Results: A highly significant difference in the Vickers hardness was observed between the two groups with Group A showing increased mean hardness levels in comparison to Group B (P < 0.001) and there was a significant change in hardness observed from baseline, demineralization, and remineralization of both Dabur Red (Group A) and Patanjali (Group B). Conclusions: Both the herbal toothpastes showed better remineralization potential but still Dabur Red showed highest remineralization when compared to Patanjali Dant Kanti. The role of herbal dentifrices as a remineralizing agent appears to be as effective as conventional toothpastes.

Abstract: Background: The invitro study was done to find out the efficacy of shelcal, shelcal with Vitamin C and calcium sandoz in remineralizing enamel surfaces on which artificial carious lesions had been created. The changes were analyzed using Vickers Hardness Testing Machine. Materials and Methods: A total of 45 permanent teeth were selected and divided into three groups: Group I – Shelcal, Group II – Shelcal with Vitamin C, and Group III – Calcium sandoz tablets. All samples were subjected to deminralization and assessed using Vickers Hardness Testing Machine. Each demineralized sample was randomly divided into three groups: Group I – Shelcal, Group II – Shelcal with Vitamin C, and Group III – Calcium sandoz tablets. After the 10 days of remineralization, the obtained data were analyzed statistically. The significance of mean difference between the groups was done by post hoc Bonferroni test and repeated measures ANOVA. All analyses were performed on SPSS software (Windows version 20.0). Results: Statistical analysis showed that shelcal remineralizes artificially induced carious lesions in permanent teeth. Conclusion: Shelcal (Group I) exhibited superior remineralization potential.

4. Imaging techniques and various treatment modalities used in the management of internal root resorption: A systematic review

Abstract: Aim: The objective is to systematically evaluate and compare the most commonly used treatment modalities, materials, and imaging techniques used in the diagnosis of internal root resorption (IRR). Methods: This review was done with Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. A search strategy of the literature was performed on PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, and manual search library resources and MeSH terms were carried out from September 2009 to July 2022 and articles in English or those having detailed summaries in English were included. Duplicates were removed manually. Case reports/series which discussed imaging techniques and treatment modalities used for IRR were included. Preliminary screening consisted of 230 articles that were identified through the database searching. After a thorough screening of 230 articles, 25 unique articles were synthesized in this systematic review. Quality assessment of the case reports selected was done using the Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal tool. Results: Case reports/series which discussed imaging techniques and treatment modalities used for IRR were included. It is clear from the chronology in these articles that although cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) might not have been the diagnostic aid of choice earlier, it certainly was the go-to for all the cases treated in the past 5 years. Furthermore, there was seen a range of management from surgical to nonsurgical depending on the lesion being perforating or confined to the root. Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) was used by most except one case where regenerative endodontic therapy was executed and in one Biodentine was used to fill the defect. Conclusion: Based on the case reports evaluated in this systematic review, it would be safe to conclude that: 1. CBCT would give the most detailed image of the lesion and its extent at the diagnostic stage. 2. MTA would be a good material to repair the defect arising in the radicular space from IRR. 3. Intra-oral radiographs could be used in the follow-up visits to check on the success of the treatment rendered.

6. Multivariable interaction analysis for enhanced baby potato (Solanum tuberosum) production in India

Abstract: Worldwide, potato is consumed in different forms from cooked to fry, and accordingly the standard cultivars and its production are met. In recent times, the demand for smaller or baby potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L.) with a target size of 20-40 mm in diameter is increasing to meet the culinary market. The production method of baby potato is markedly different from ware potatoes, as are harvested prematurely that led to greater yield reduction per unit area. Hence, a holistic approach is imperative to minimise the yield loss as no single dependent factor operates independently. Therefore, the commercially leading potato cultivars (K. Khyati, K. Himsona, K. Pukhraj and K. Pushkar) were evaluated in AICRP (Potato) under contrasting growing environments for two years to understand the interaction effect of location, cultivars and harvesting time together on yield components. The results revealed a highly significant difference for all three main effects for the entire tuber size production indicated an existence of heterogenity among growing environments and cultivars. The interaction effects location*cultivar and cultivar *harvesting time exhibited a highly significant difference for small (40 mm), total yield and tuber dry matter content indicated their strong influence on these traits. The growing location Chinndwara registered substantially greater efficiency by accounting 145, 115, 61 and 97% for small, medium, large size tubers and total tuber yield, respectively. The delay in harvesting time (>75DAP) reduced the per cent of small and medium size tubers and their yield. Although, cv. K. Himsona had the greatest per cent of small and medium size tubers suitable for baby potatoes, the yield of this group was found greatest in cv. K. Khyati and at par with K. Pukhraj across locations, hence can be recommended for baby potato production under tropical conditions.

7. Anti-topological crystal and non-Abelian liquid in twisted semiconductor bilayers

Abstract: We show that electron crystals compete closely with non-Abelian fractional Chern insulators in the half-full second moir\'e band of twisted bilayer MoTe$_2$. Depending on the twist angle and microscopic model, these crystals can have non-zero or zero Chern numbers. The latter relies on cancellation between contributions from the full first miniband (+1) and the half-full second miniband (-1). For this reason, we call it an anti-topological crystal. Surprisingly, it occurs despite the lowest two non-interacting bands in a given valley having the same Chern number of +1. The anti-topological crystal is a novel type of electron crystal that may appear in systems with multiple Chern bands at filling factors $n > 1$.

Abstract: We present a detailed study of the large-scale shock front in Stephan's Quintet, a byproduct of past and ongoing interactions. Using integral-field spectroscopy from the new William Herschel Telescope Enhanced Area Velocity Explorer (WEAVE), recent 144 MHz observations from the LOFAR Two-metre Sky Survey (LoTSS), and archival data from the Very Large Array and James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), we obtain new measurements of key shock properties and determine its impact on the system. Harnessing the WEAVE large integral field unit's (LIFU) field of view (90 $\times$ 78 arcsec$^{2}$), spectral resolution ($R\sim2500$) and continuous wavelength coverage across the optical band, we perform robust emission line modeling and dynamically locate the shock within the multi-phase intergalactic medium (IGM) with higher precision than previously possible. The shocking of the cold gas phase is hypersonic, and comparisons with shock models show that it can readily account for the observed emission line ratios. In contrast, we demonstrate that the shock is relatively weak in the hot plasma visible in X-rays (with Mach number of $\mathcal{M} \sim 2 - 4$), making it inefficient at producing the relativistic particles needed to explain the observed synchrotron emission. Instead, we propose that it has led to an adiabatic compression of the medium, which has increased the radio luminosity ten-fold. Comparison of the Balmer line-derived extinction map with the molecular gas and hot dust observed with JWST suggests that pre-existing dust may have survived the collision, allowing the condensation of H$_{2}$ - a key channel for dissipating the shock energy., Comment: 23 pages, 15 figures, accepted for publication in MNRAS

Abstract: Understanding the complex ground state of van der Waals (vdW) magnets is essential for designing new materials and devices that leverage these platforms. Here, we investigate a two-dimensional vdW ferromagnet -- Fe$_5$GeTe$_2$-- with one of the highest reported Curie temperatures, to elucidate its magnetic excitations and charge order. Using Fe $L_3 - $edge resonant inelastic x-ray scattering, we find the dual character of magnetic excitations, consisting of a coherent magnon and a continuum, similar to what is reported for its sister compound Fe$_3$GeTe$_2$. The magnon has an energy of $\approx$ 36 meV at the maximum in-plane momentum transfer ($-$0.35 r.l.u.) allowed at Fe $L_3 - $edge. A broad and non-dispersive continuum extends up to 150 meV, 50$\%$ higher energy than in Fe$_3$GeTe$_2$. Its intensity is sinusoidally modulated along the $L$ direction, with a period matching the inter-slab distance. Our findings suggest that while the unconventional dual character of magnetic excitations is generic to ternary Fe-Ge-Te vdW magnets, the correlation length of the out-of-plane magnetic interaction increases in Fe$_5$GeTe$_2$ as compared to Fe$_3$GeTe$_2$, supporting a stronger three-dimensional character for the former. Furthermore, by investigating the $\pm$(1/3, 1/3, $L$) peaks by resonant x-ray diffraction, we conclude these to have structural origin rather than charge order -- as previously reported -- and suggest doubling of the structural unit cell along the $c-$axis., Comment: 17 pages, 3 figures

10. Markov chains for the analysis of states of one-dimensional spin systems

Abstract: We analyze frustrated states of the one-dimensional dilute Ising chain with charged interacting impurities of two types with mapping of the system to some Markov chain. We perform classification and reveal two types of Markov chains: periodic with period 2 and aperiodic. Frustrated phases with various types of chains have different properties. In phases with periodic Markov chains, long-range order is observed in the sublattice while another sublattice remains disordered. This results in a conjunction of the non-zero residual entropy and the infinite correlation length. In frustrated phases with aperiodic chains, there is no long-range order, and the correlation length remains finite. Abstract: The observation of a resonance structure in the opening angle of the electron-positron pairs in the $^{7}$Li(p,\ee) $^{8}$Be reaction was claimed and interpreted as the production and subsequent decay of a hypothetical particle (X17). Similar excesses, consistent with this particle, were later observed in processes involving $^{4}$He and $^{12}$C nuclei with the same experimental technique. The MEG II apparatus at PSI, designed to search for the $\mu^+ \rightarrow \mathrm{e}^+ \gamma$ decay, can be exploited to investigate the existence of this particle and study its nature. Protons from a Cockroft-Walton accelerator, with an energy up to 1.1 MeV, were delivered on a dedicated Li-based target. The $\gamma$ and the e$^{+}$e$^{-}$ pair emerging from the $^8\mathrm{Be}^*$ transitions were studied with calorimeters and a spectrometer, featuring a broader angular acceptance than previous experiments. We present in this paper the analysis of a four-week data-taking in 2023 with a beam energy of 1080 keV, resulting in the excitation of two different resonances with Q-value \SI{17.6}{\mega\electronvolt} and \SI{18.1}{\mega\electronvolt}. No significant signal was found, and limits at \SI{90}{\percent} C.L. on the branching ratios (relative to the $\gamma$ emission) of the two resonances to X17 were set, $R_{17.6} < 1.8 \times 10^{-6} $ and $R_{18.1} < 1.2 \times 10^{-5} $., Comment: 11 pages, 9 figures, submitted to EPJC

Abstract: Recent observations of the Galactic component of the high-energy neutrino flux, together with the detection of the diffuse Galactic gamma-ray emission up to sub-PeV energies, open new possibilities to study the acceleration and propagation of cosmic rays in the Milky Way. At the same time, both large non-astrophysical backgrounds at TeV energies and scarcity of neutrino events in the sub-PeV band currently limit these analyses. Here we use the sample of cascade events with estimated neutrino energies above 200 TeV, detected by the partially deployed Baikal Gigaton Volume Detector (GVD) in six years of operation, to test the continuation of the Galactic neutrino spectrum to sub-PeV energies. We find that the distribution of the arrival directions of Baikal-GVD cascades above 200 TeV in the sky suggests an excess of neutrinos from low Galactic latitudes. We find the excess above 200 TeV also in the most recent IceCube public data sets, both of cascades and tracks. 13. Strong coupling of a superconducting flux qubit to single bismuth donors

Abstract: The realization of a quantum computer represents a tremendous scientific and technological challenge due to the extreme fragility of quantum information. The physical support of information, namely the quantum bit or qubit, must at the same time be strongly coupled to other qubits by gates to compute information, and well decoupled from its environment to keep its quantum behavior. An interesting physical system for realizing such qubits are magnetic impurities in semiconductors, such as bismuth donors in silicon. Indeed, spins associated to bismuth donors can reach an extremely long coherence time -- of the order of seconds. Yet it is extremely difficult to establish and control efficient gates between these spins. Here we demonstrate a protocol where single bismuth donors can coherently transfer their quantum information to a superconducting flux qubit, which acts as a mediator or quantum bus. Abstract: Intense electromagnetic fields can result in dramatic changes in the electronic properties of solids. These changes are commonly studied using optical probes of the modified electronic structure. Here we use optical-scanning tunneling microscopy (optical-STM) equipped with near-field continuous wave (CW) laser excitation to directly measure the electronic structure of light-dressed states in a monolayer transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) semiconductor, WSe2. We find that the effective tunneling gap and tunneling density of states are strongly influenced by the intensity of the electromagnetic field when the applied field is resonant with the bandgap of the semiconductor. Our findings indicate that CW laser excitation can be used to generate light-dressed electronic states of quantum materials when confined strongly to the nanoscale.

Abstract: We cross-correlate a low-contamination subset of the VST ATLAS g < 22.5 quasar catalogue with g < 21.5 galaxy clusters, r < 21 galaxies and r < 19.5 Luminous Red Galaxies (LRGs) to probe their halo mass profiles via quasar magnification bias caused by weak lensing. In the case of galaxy clusters we find that at small scales their mass profiles are well fitted by Navarro, Frenk and White (NFW) models with masses within the expected range. For the galaxies, we find consistency with previous SDSS-based results for the galaxy-quasar cross-correlation and the galaxy auto-correlation functions. Disagreement as to whether the cross-correlation results are in tension with $\Lambda$CDM appears due to different assumptions as to whether galaxies trace mass. We conclude that halo occupation distribution (HOD) models fit the galaxy - quasar lensing results better than models where galaxies trace the mass. We further test the cluster and galaxy HOD models in the 2-halo range using the Planck Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) lensing map, finding that the cross-correlation with both the poorest clusters and the galaxies may be marginally over-predicted by the above HOD models. Finally, we measure the magnification bias of LRGs using both quasar and CMB lensing and find that the observed quasar lensing amplitude may be $\approx 2\times$ too high and, on larger scales, the CMB lensing amplitude may be too low to be explained by a standard LRG HOD model., Comment: 13 pages, 11 figures, accepted for publication in MNRAS

17. Phase Diagram of Kane-Mele Hubbard model at small doping

Abstract: Recent experiment on MoTe$_2$-WTe$_2$ twisted bi-layer demonstrated physics of Kane-Mele (KM) as well as Haldane models. Although topological properties of KM model has been studied extensively, effects of interaction are still less explored beyond half filling. In this work we study the effect of Hubbard interaction in KM model at small hole doping around half filling. We use density matrix renormalization group method to characterize different phase of cylinders with width of $L_y=3$ unit cells. We identify {a possible} superconducting (SC) phase and transition at different strength of spin-orbit coupling (SOC) and show the strong dependence of critical interaction for SC transition. We also calculate the single-particle Green's function, spin-spin and density-density correlations and compare with SC correlation to establish the dominance of SC correlations. Our result highlights striking behaviour of SC transition and its dependence on SOC which could be useful in understanding different ways to achieve unconventional SC.

Abstract: The XLZD collaboration is developing a two-phase xenon time projection chamber with an active mass of 60 to 80 t capable of probing the remaining WIMP-nucleon interaction parameter space down to the so-called neutrino fog. In this work we show that, based on the performance of currently operating detectors using the same technology and a realistic reduction of radioactivity in detector materials, such an experiment will also be able to competitively search for neutrinoless double beta decay in $^{136}$Xe using a natural-abundance xenon target. XLZD can reach a 3$\sigma$ discovery potential half-life of 5.7$\times$10$^{27}$ yr (and a 90% CL exclusion of 1.3$\times$10$^{28}$ yr) with 10 years of data taking, corresponding to a Majorana mass range of 7.3-31.3 meV (4.8-20.5 meV). XLZD will thus exclude the inverted neutrino mass ordering parameter space and will start to probe the normal ordering region for most of the nuclear matrix elements commonly considered by the community., Comment: 29 pages, 7 figures

Abstract: This report describes the experimental strategy and technologies for a next-generation xenon observatory sensitive to dark matter and neutrino physics. The detector will have an active liquid xenon target mass of 60-80 tonnes and is proposed by the XENON-LUX-ZEPLIN-DARWIN (XLZD) collaboration. The design is based on the mature liquid xenon time projection chamber technology of the current-generation experiments, LZ and XENONnT. A baseline design and opportunities for further optimization of the individual detector components are discussed. The experiment envisaged here has the capability to explore parameter space for Weakly Interacting Massive Particle (WIMP) dark matter down to the neutrino fog, with a 3$\sigma$ evidence potential for the spin-independent WIMP-nucleon cross sections as low as $3\times10^{-49}\rm cm^2$ (at 40 GeV/c$^2$ WIMP mass). The observatory is also projected to have a 3$\sigma$ observation potential of neutrinoless double-beta decay of $^{136}$Xe at a half-life of up to $5.7\times 10^{27}$ years. Abstract: We report results of a search for nuclear recoils induced by weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP) dark matter using the LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) two-phase xenon time projection chamber. This analysis uses a total exposure of $4.2\pm0.1$ tonne-years from 280 live days of LZ operation, of which $3.3\pm0.1$ tonne-years and 220 live days are new. A technique to actively tag background electronic recoils from $^{214}$Pb $\beta$ decays is featured for the first time. Enhanced electron-ion recombination is observed in two-neutrino double electron capture decays of $^{124}$Xe, representing a noteworthy new background. After removal of artificial signal-like events injected into the data set to mitigate analyzer bias, we find no evidence for an excess over expected backgrounds. World-leading constraints are placed on spin-independent (SI) and spin-dependent WIMP-nucleon cross sections for masses $\geq$9 GeV/$c^2$. The strongest SI exclusion set is $2.1\times10^{-48}$ cm$^{2}$ at the 90% confidence level at a mass of 36 GeV/$c^2$, and the best SI median sensitivity achieved is $5.0\times10^{-48}$ cm$^{2}$ for a mass of 40 GeV/$c^2$., Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures. Abstract: We describe design studies for a pulsed quasi-monoenergetic 2-keV neutron source for calibration of sub-keV nuclear recoils. Such a calibration is required for detectors sensitive to sub-GeV dark matter and also the coherent elastic scattering of reactor neutrinos. In our design, neutrons from a commercial deuterium-tritium generator are moderated to the keV scale and then filtered to the monoenergetic spectrum using a feature in the neutron cross section of scandium. In this approach, unmoderated high-energy neutrons form a challenging background, along with gammas from neutron capture in the moderator materials. We describe the optimization of the moderator+filter and shielding geometry, and find a geometry that in simulation achieves both the target neutron flux at 2 keV and subdominant rates of background interactions. Lastly, we describe a future path to lower-energy (few eV scale) calibrations using time-of-flight and sub-keV neutrons., Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures

23. A non-magnetic mechanism of backscattering in helical edge states

Abstract: We study interaction-induced backscattering mechanism for helical edge states of a two dimensional topological insulator which is tunnel-coupled to a puddle located near the edge channel. The mechanism does not involve inelastic scattering and is due to the zero-mode fluctuations in a puddle. We discuss in detail a simple model of a puddle - a cavity in the bulk of the topological insulator. Such a cavity also has helical edge states which are tunnel-coupled with helical states encompassing the topological insulator. We analyze effect of the edge current in the puddle. Although averaged value of this current is equal to zero, its zero-mode fluctuations act, in the presence of electron-electron interaction, similar to magnetic flux thus allowing backscattering processes, which involve tunneling through the puddle. Rectification of these fluctuations leads to a finite probability of backscattering. This effect is further enhanced due to dephasing process which is also dominated by zero-mode fluctuations. Remarkably, for temperature exceeding level spacing in the puddle, the rate of backscattering does not depend on temperature in a good agreement with recent experiments., Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures

The specimens were divided into five groups (n = 6): Control group with no intracanal medicament and four groups with the following medicaments, i.e., calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2), calcium hydroxide with chlorhexidine (Ca(OH)2 with CHX), triple antibiotic paste (TAP), and silver diamine fluoride (SDF), respectively. 25. Prospective, randomized, open-label, blinded end point, two-arm, comparative clinical study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of a Fixed Ayurvedic Regimen (FAR) as add-on to conventional treatment in the management of mild and moderate COVID-19 patients

Abstract: Background: The traditional healthcare systems are being avidly looked into in the quest for effective remedies to tackle the menace of COVID-19 pandemic. Objective: This was a prospective randomized, controlled open-label, blinded end point (PROBE) study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of a fixed ayurvedic regimen (FAR) as an add-on to conventional treatment/standard of care (SOC) in the management of mild-to-moderate COVID-19 infection. Methodology: A total of 68 patients were recruited who consumed either FAR + SOC (n = 35) or SOC only (n = 33) for 28 days. Primary outcomes assessed were mean time required for clinical recovery and proportion of patients showing clinical recovery between the groups. Secondary outcomes assessed included mean time required for testing SARS-CoV-2 negative, change in clinical status on World Health Organization (WHO) ordinal scale, number of days of hospitalization, change in disease progression and requirement of oxygen/intensive care unit admission/ventilator support/rescue medication, health status on WHO quality of life (QOL) BREF, and safety on the basis of occurrence of adverse event/serious adverse event (AE/SAE) and changes in laboratory parameters. Results: Patients consuming FAR as an add-on SOC showed faster clinical recovery from the day of onset of symptoms by 51.34% (P < 0.05) as compared to SOC group. A higher proportion of patients taking FAR recovered within the first 2 weeks compared to those taking only SOC. It was observed that 5 times more patients recovered within 7 days in FAR group when compared to SOC (P < 0.05) group. An earlier clinical recovery was observed in clinical symptoms such as sore throat, cough, loss of taste, and myalgia (P < 0.05). Improvement in postclinical symptoms such as appetite, digestion, stress and anxiety was also observed to be better with the use of FAR. Requirement of rescue medications such as antipyretics, analgesics, and antibiotics was also found to be reduced in the FAR group (P < 0.05). FAR showed a significant improvement in all the assessed domains of QOL. None of the AEs/SAE reported in the study were assessed to be related to the study drugs. Further, FAR did not produce any significant change in the laboratory safety parameters and was assessed to be safe. Conclusion: FAR could be an effective and safe add-on ayurvedic regimen to standard of care in the management of mild and moderate COVID-19 patients. CTRI number: CTRI/2020/09/027914.

26. Peripheral vascular system thrombosis and COVID-19: A chilling revelation

Abstract: Introduction: As the COVID-19 pandemic reaches, its zenith a worrying trend has been noticed of late, that is arterial and venous thrombosis in patients presenting with COVID-19. Arterial and venous thrombosis was found in patients with asymptomatic state to severe affliction and most of them had a delayed presentation. Materials and Methods: An observational study was carried out by the Department of Vascular Surgery, Madurai Medical College. There were around 15200 total admissions between March 15, 2020, to September 30, 2020, in corona specialty hospital and trauma care center affiliated to Madurai medical college, out of which: (1) Acute deep venous thrombosis (DVT) was seen in 349 patients. (2) Acute limb ischemia (ALI) was found in 75 patients, out of which 70 patients had lower limb involvement and 5 patients had upper limb involvement. (a) Class 3–50 patients. (b) Class 2b–15 patients, (c) Class 1–10 patients. (3) Acute mesenteric ischemia was seen in 8 patients. Conclusion: COVID-19 is associated with an increased incidence of arterial and venous thrombosis of peripheral vascular system wherein arterial thrombosis, presenting, as ALI is profound and has a multi fold increased incidence than in non-COVID-19 patients and venous thrombosis is much higher than the non COVID-19 state.

28. Tuning competition between charge order and superconductivity in the square-lattice $t$-$t'$-$J$ model

Abstract: Recently, a flurry of works have found strong competition between charge density wave (CDW) and superconductivity (SC) in the doped Hubbard and $t$-$J$ models on the square lattice. Interestingly, some recent results suggest that the electron-phonon coupling may suppress CDW order and enhance SC. In this work, we consider the square-lattice Hubbard model with the Holstein or Su-Schrieffer-Heeger electron-phonon coupling at the large-$U$ and antiadiabatic (infinite phonon frequency) limit, which gives an effective $t$-$J$ model with either a density attractive interaction $V$ or a $J_P$ term that contributes a larger spin exchange and a density repulsive interaction. To explore how these effective couplings may suppress CDW and give a SC, we implement the density matrix renormalization group simulation on the $t$-$t'$-$J$ model with $V$ or $J_P$ coupling. We focus on the {\it six-leg} cylinder system with the next-nearest-neighbor hopping $t'$, which hosts partially filled stripe and $d$-wave SC in phase diagram. By tuning $t'/t > 0$ and $V$ or $J_P$, we establish two quantum phase diagrams. In the SC phases, the increased $V$ or $J_P$ coupling can enhance the quasi-long-range SC order, consistent with some previous findings. Nonetheless, no SC emerges when the partially filled stripe phase disappears with increased $V$ or $J_P$. Instead, the system has a transition to either a phase-separation-like regime or a filled stripe phase. On the other hand, with increased $t'/t$, not only the partially filled stripe but the phase separation and filled stripe can also be tuned to SC phase. Our results suggest that although $V$ and $J_P$ couplings may strengthen hole binding, the hole dynamics controlled by $t'/t$ appears to play more crucial role for obtaining a SC in $t$-$J$ model., Comment: 12 pages, 10 figures

Abstract: We report the first measurement of the azimuthal anisotropy of J$/\psi$ at forward rapidity ($1.2<|\eta|<2.2$) in Au$+$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. The data were collected by the PHENIX experiment in 2014 and 2016 with integrated luminosity of 14.5~nb$^{-1}$. The second Fourier coefficient ($v_2$) of the azimuthal distribution of $J/\psi$ is determined as a function of the transverse momentum ($p_T$) using the event-plane method. The measurements were performed for several selections of collision centrality: 0\%--50\%, 10\%--60\%, and 10\%-40\%. We find that in all cases the values of $v_2(p_T)$, which quantify the elliptic flow of J$/\psi$, are consistent with zero. The results are consistent with measurements at midrapidity, indicating no significant elliptic flow of the J$/\psi$ within the quark-gluon-plasma medium at collision energies of $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV., Comment: 369 authors from 72 institutions, 12 pages, 7 figures, 5 tables. v1 is version submitted to Physical Review C. Abstract: We present the first forward-rapidity measurements of elliptic anisotropy of open-heavy-flavor muons at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. 31. A generalized non-hourglass updated Lagrangian formulation for SPH solid dynamics

Abstract: Hourglass modes, characterized by zigzag particle and stress distributions, are a common numerical instability encountered when simulating solid materials with updated Lagrangian smoother particle hydrodynamics (ULSPH). While recent solutions have effectively addressed this issue in elastic materials using an essentially non-hourglass formulation, extending these solutions to plastic materials with more complex constitutive equations has proven challenging due to the need to express shear forces in the form of a velocity Laplacian. To address this, a generalized non-hourglass formulation is proposed within the ULSPH framework, suitable for both elastic and plastic materials. Specifically, a penalty force is introduced into the momentum equation to resolve the disparity between the linearly predicted and actual velocities of neighboring particle pairs, thereby mitigating the hourglass issue. The stability, convergence, and accuracy of the proposed method are validated through a series of classical elastic and plastic cases, with a dual-criterion time-stepping scheme to improve computational efficiency. The results show that the present method not only matches or even surpasses the performance of the recent essentially non-hourglass formulation in elastic cases but also performs well in plastic scenarios., Comment: 42 pages 31 figures

32. Planar Bragg microcavities with monolayer WS$_2$ for strong exciton-photon coupling

Abstract: We propose and numerically investigate a novel compact planar microcavity design based on a high-index dielectric slab waveguide with embedded monolayer semiconductor. In comparison to more traditional vertical Bragg microcavities, our design relies on the transmission of guided optical modes and achieves strong exciton-photon coupling in a chip-compatible and compact geometry with sub-100 nm thickness. We show that Rabi splitting values of more than 70 meV can be obtained in planar microcavities with the total length below 5 um. Further, we reveal the dependence of Rabi splitting on the dimensions of the structure and explain it with a simple theoretical model. Our results contribute towards the development of novel compact 2D semiconductor-based components for integrated photonic circuits.

Abstract: The $J/\psi$ and $\psi(2S)$ charmonium states, composed of $c\bar{c}$ quark pairs and known since the 1970s, are widely believed to serve as ideal probes to test quantum chromodynamics in high-energy hadronic interactions. However, there is not yet a complete understanding of the charmonium-production mechanism. Recent measurements of $J/\psi$ production as a function of event charged-particle multiplicity at the collision energies of both the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) show enhanced $J/\psi$ production yields with increasing multiplicity. One potential explanation for this type of dependence is multiparton interactions (MPI). We carry out the first measurements of self-normalized $J/\psi$ yields and the $\psi(2S)$ to $J/\psi$ ratio at both forward and backward rapidities as a function of self-normalized charged-particle multiplicity in $p$$+$$p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=200$ GeV. In addition, detailed {\sc pythia} studies tuned to RHIC energies were performed to investigate the MPI impacts. We find that the PHENIX data at RHIC are consistent with recent LHC measurements and can only be described by {\sc pythia} calculations that include MPI effects. The forward and backward $\psi(2S)$ to $J/\psi$ ratio, which serves as a unique and powerful approach to study final-state effects on charmonium production, is found to be less dependent on the charged-particle multiplicity., Comment: 301 authors from 69 institutions, 8 pages, 3 figures. v1 is version submitted to Physical Review D Letters. Abstract: The broad physics reach of the LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) experiment covers rare phenomena beyond the direct detection of dark matter. We report precise measurements of the extremely rare decay of $^{124}$Xe through the process of two-neutrino double electron capture (2$\nu$2EC), utilizing a $1.39\,\mathrm{kg} \times \mathrm{yr}$ isotopic exposure from the first LZ science run. A half-life of $T_{1/2}^{2\nu2\mathrm{EC}} = (1.09 \pm 0.14_{\text{stat}} \pm 0.05_{\text{sys}}) \times 10^{22}\,\mathrm{yr}$ is observed with a statistical significance of $8.3\,\sigma$, in agreement with literature. First empirical measurements of the KK capture fraction relative to other K-shell modes were conducted, and demonstrate consistency with respect to recent signal models at the $1.4\,\sigma$ level., Comment: 15 pages, 3 figures

37. Universal relationships for neutron stars from perturbative approach

Abstract: The universal relationships for compact stars have been investigated employing perturbative approach using canonical (APR) and Brussels-Montreal Skyrme (BSk22, BSk24, BSk26) equations of state describing hadronic matter of neutron stars. The neutron star matter has been considered to be $\beta$-equilibrated neutron-proton-electron-muon matter at the core with a rigid crust. The multipole moments of a slowly rotating neutron star characterize its external gravitational field. These variables are dependent on the interior structure of the neutron star described by the equation of state of the neutron star matter. The properties of neutron stars, such as the mass, the radius, the dimensionless moment of inertia, the compactness, the Love number, the dimensionless tidal deformability and the dimensionless quadrupole moment have been calculated and relations among these quantities have been explored. It is found that most of these relations do not depend sensitively on the details of the internal structure of neutron stars. Such universality implies that the measurement of a single quantity appearing in a universal relation would automatically provide information about the others, notwithstanding the fact that those may not be accessible observationally. These can be used to estimate deformability of compact stars through moment of inertia measurements, to quantify spin in binary inspirals by breaking degeneracies in the detection of gravitational waves and test General Relativity in a way that is independent of nuclear structure., Comment: 12 pages including 21 figures and 1 table

38. Incoherent diffractive production of jets in electron DIS off nuclei at high energy

Abstract: We study incoherent diffractive production of two and three jets in electron-nucleus deep inelastic scattering (DIS) at small $x_{\scriptscriptstyle \rm Bj}$ using the color dipole picture and the effective theory of the Color Glass Condensate (CGC). We consider color fluctuations in the CGC weight-function as the source of the nuclear break-up and the associated momentum transfer $\sqrt{|t|}$. We focus on the regime in which the two jets are almost back-to-back in transverse space and have transverse momenta $P_{\perp}$ much larger than both the momentum transfer and the saturation scale $Q_s$. The cross section for producing such a hard dijet is parametrically dominated by large size fluctuations in the projectile wave-function that scatter strongly and for which a third, semi-hard, jet appears in the final state. The 2 + 1 jets cross section can be written in a factorized form in terms of incoherent quark and gluon diffractive transverse momentum distributions (DTMDs) when the third jet is explicit, or incoherent diffractive parton distribution functions (DPDFs) when the third jet is integrated over. We find that the DPDFs and the corresponding cross section saturate logarithmically when $|t| \ll Q_s^2$, while they fall like $1/|t|^2$ in the regime $Q_s^2 \ll |t| \ll P_{\perp}^2$. We further show that there is no angular correlation between the hard jet momentum and the momentum transfer. 39. Shot noise in Aharonov-Bohm interferometers: Comparison of helical and conventional setups

Abstract: We study the shot noise of current through the edge states of a two-dimensional topological insulator placed in magnetic field and compare the obtained results with the shot noise in conventional single-channel spinless Aharonov-Bohm interferometer. We find general formulas for the Fano factors of these setups, assuming that temperature exceeds level spacing in the system. We demonstrate that both in helical and in conventional case the interference effects dramatically change the Fano factor and its magnetic field dependence. For weak tunneling coupling with leads, the Fano factors of both setups exhibit a periodic series of sharp Aharonov-Bohm peaks with variation of magnetic flux piercing the system. Our key finding is that the Fano factor in the helical interferometer provides information about the presence of backscattering defects violating topological protection. In particular, the amplitude of Aharonov-Bohm peaks in the helical setup is proportional to the strength of the defect in contrast to conventional setup, where peaks have finite amplitude even in the ballistic case., Comment: 16 pages, 10 figures

40. The Age-Dependent Vertical Actions of Young Stars in the Galaxy

Abstract: Stars in the Galactic disk are born on cold, nearly circular orbits with small vertical excursions. After their birth, their orbits evolve, driven by small- or large-scale perturbations in the Galactic disk's gravitational potential. Here, we study the vertical motions of young stars over their first few orbital periods, using a sample of OBA stars from \textit{Gaia} E/DR3, which includes radial velocities and ages $\tau$ from LAMOST. We constructed a parametric model for the time evolution of the stellar orbits' mean vertical actions $J_z$ as a function of Galactocentric radius, $R_{\mathrm{GC}}$. Accounting for data uncertainties, we use Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) analysis in annuli of Galactocentric radius to constrain the model parameters. Our best-fit model shows a remarkably linear increase of vertical actions with age across all Galactocentric radii examined. Orbital \textit{heating} by random scattering could offer a straightforward interpretation for this trend. However, various other dynamical aspects of the Galactic disk, such as stars being born in a warped disk, might offer alternative explanations that could be tested in the future., Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures. Abstract: Graphene is a privileged 2D platform for hosting confined light-matter excitations known as surface plasmon-polaritons (SPPs), as it possesses low intrinsic losses with a high degree of optical confinement. However, the inherently isotropic optical properties of graphene limit its ability to guide and focus SPPs, making it less suitable than anisotropic elliptical and hyperbolic materials as a platform for polaritonic lensing and canalization. Here, we present the graphene/CrSBr heterostructure as an engineered 2D interface that hosts highly anisotropic SPP propagation over a wide range of frequencies in the mid-infrared and terahertz. Using a combination of scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), scattering-type scanning near-field optical microscopy (s-SNOM), and first-principles calculations, we demonstrate mutual doping in excess of 10$^{13}$ cm$^{-2}$ holes/electrons between the interfacial layers of graphene/CrSBr heterostructures. SPPs in graphene activated by charge transfer interact with charge-induced anisotropic intra- and interband transitions in the interfacial doped CrSBr, leading to preferential SPP propagation along the quasi-1D chains that compose each CrSBr layer. This multifaceted proximity effect both creates SPPs and endows them with anisotropic transport and propagation lengths that differ by an order-of-magnitude between the two in-plane crystallographic axes of CrSBr.

Abstract: The influence of space weathering on the observed spectra of C-complex asteroids remains uncertain. This has long hindered our understanding of their composition through telescope observations. Multi-band imaging of Ryugu by ONC-T on Hayabusa2 and that of Bennu by MapCam on OSIRIS-REx found opposite spectral trends of space weathering; Ryugu darkened/reddened while Bennu brightened/blued. How the spectra of Ryugu and Bennu evolved relative to each other would place a constraint for understanding their origins and evolutions. In this study, we compared the space weathering trends on Ryugu and Bennu by applying the results of cross calibration between ONC-T and MapCam. We show that the average Bennu surface is brighter by 18.0 $\pm$ 1.5% at 550 nm and bluer by 0.18 $\pm$ 0.03 $\mu$m$^{-1}$ (480-850 nm slope) than Ryugu. The spectral slopes of surface materials are more uniform on Bennu than on Ryugu at spatial scales $\gtrsim$1 m, but Bennu is more heterogeneous at $\lesssim$1 m. This suggests that lateral mixing due to resurfacing may have been more efficient on Bennu. The reflectance-spectral slope distributions of craters on Ryugu and Bennu appeared to follow two trend lines with an offset before cross calibration, but they converged to a single straight trend without a bend after cross calibration. We show that the spectra of the freshest craters on Ryugu and Bennu are indistinguishable within the uncertainty of cross calibration. These results suggest that Ryugu and Bennu initially had similar spectra before space weathering and that they evolved in completely opposite directions along the same trend line, subsequently evolving into asteroids with different disk-averaged spectra. These findings further suggest that space weathering likely expanded the spectral slope variation of C-complex asteroids, implying that they may have formed from materials with more uniform spectral slopes.

43. Viscous damping of r-modes and emission of gravitational waves

Abstract: The Rossby mode (r-mode) perturbation in pulsars as a steady gravitational wave (GW) source has been explored. The effect of a rigid crust on viscous damping and dissipation rate in the boundary layer between fluid core and crust has been studied. The time evolution and intensity of the emitted GWs in terms of the strain tensor amplitude have been estimated with the approximation of slow rotation using equation of state derived from the APR and Skyrme effective interactions with Brussels-Montreal parameter sets. The core of the neutron star has been considered to be $\beta$-equilibrated nuclear matter containing neutrons, protons, electrons and muons, surrounded by a solid crust. Abstract: Introduction: The severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS)-CoV2 is a viral respiratory disease threatening worldwide public health, social stability, and financial development. Pathological hallmark for SARS-CoV-2 is an ineffective innate immune reaction. i.e., immune cells recognize it as dangerous toxins in place of self-antigen. Published data on neutralizing antibodies suggests their role in the prevention and treatment of infection SARS-CoV-2 through passive immunity in COVID-19. Objective: The present paper discusses the role of vishghna dravya in either flushing out or neutralization of toxins from the body. Material & Method: We developed the screening system based on Ayurveda & Modern pharmacology from different databases. Reported plants and minerals were retrieved from ancient texts. Furthermore, pharmacology method was used to preliminarily uncover the molecule mechanism. Results: Nine herbs and five metallic bhasmas having Vishaghna property were systematically reviewed, out of which four herbs and five metallic bhasmas have been reported to possess neutralizing antibody potential. Vishagna dravya works on concept of Samana pratyarbdha, the inherent qualities of the predominant mahabhutas. Madhura rasa (six), Katu Rasa (Five), Tikta Rasa (seven), Kasaya Rasa (two) have Prithvi, Vayu, Akash & Agni Mahabhuta that may exert neutralizing effect by making the cells more strong, inhibits the absorption of virus & increasing the various metabolic activities. Conclusion: To meet this challenge, this article discusses some published Ayurveda herbs and Nano metals which may neutralize the virus toxin for the prevention and treatment of infection by SARS-CoV-2.

45. The effectiveness of pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy using microencapsulated pancreatin preparations in the correction of nutritional status in patients with chronic pancreatitis: a prospective observational study

Abstract: Aim. The goal is to evaluate the effectiveness of pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy (PERT) using microencapsulated pancreatin preparations for the correction of nutritional status in patients with chronic pancreatitis (CP) and associated exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI). Materials and methods. The study included 58 patients with CP who were divided into two groups depending on the results of a laboratory assessment of indicators of nutritional status: group I (n=30) consisted of patients with CP and signs of EPI (according to low elastase test values) without deviations in nutritional status; Group II (n=28) consisted of patients with CP with a EPI and an abnormal nutritional status. In both groups, patients during the entire observation period (8-12 months) received PERT using microencapsulated pancreatin preparations at a dose adjusted for the severity of permanent residence permit. Before and after the PERT course, the dynamics of anthropometric [body weight, body mass index (BMI)] and laboratory indicators of nutritional status (total protein, albumin, vitamins D and B12, transferrin, iron and magnesium) were evaluated. Results. After the completion of PERT, a significant tendency towards an increase in BMI in patients was noted in both groups. In group I, this indicator increased from 21.45 [95% confidence interval (CI) 19.80-23.92] kg/m2 to 22.15 (95% CI 20.31-23.86) kg/m2, and in II group - from 19.22 (95% CI 18.33-21.99) kg/m2 to 22.0 (95% CI 19.97-24.08) kg/m2. At the same time, the duration of PERT (months) significantly correlated with the dynamics of the patient’s body weight (r=0.4679; 95% CI 0.2384-0.6479, p=0.0002). When assessing laboratory markers of nutritional status after PERT, a general tendency was found to increase the levels of total protein, albumin, vitamin D, magnesium, transferrin, and iron in both groups, however, statistically significant differences in the dynamics were observed mainly in group II patients. So, the level of total protein in group II increased from 69.05 (95% CI 65.6717-70.9000) g/l to 72.8 (95% CI 71.1358-74.9000) g/l, vitamin D - from 10.6 (95% CI 32.8397-38.9603) ng/ml to 17.1 (95% CI 12.0166-23.6232) ng/ml, magnesium - from 0.72 ( 95% CI 0.6892-0.7825) mmol/L to 0.795 (95% CI 0.7692-0.8800) mmol/L, and transferrin from 2.91 (95% CI 2.1800-3.3656 ) g/l to 2.92 (95% CI 2.4000-3.5200) g/l. Conclusion. A prospective observational study demonstrated the effectiveness of PERT using microencapsulated pancreatin preparations in the correction of nutritional status in patients with CP.

Methods: Permanent and temporary breeding habitats were identified and selected from five possible malaria sensitive sites in the district of Trincomalee. Anopheles larvae and macro-invertebrates were collected using standard methods for 16 months (from October 2013 to January 2015) and they were identified microscopically. Abstract: Background and Aims: Dental impaction is a serious challenge to the dental practitioners. Treatment for impaction is a complex procedure. During embryogenesis, the ridged skin and teeth develop from the same layer,. hence, suggesting that the genetic information in the genome is dissipated during this period, and any disturbance affecting tooth development and structure will be simultaneously reflected through change in dermatoglyphic patterns. This study aims to analyse the correlation between dermatoglyphics pattern variations and impacted teeth. Settings and Design: 100 patients, 50 impacted and 50 healthy patients, were selected who are attending to the department of oral medicine and radiology between the age group of 18-40 years. Methods and Materials: The fingerprints of both the hands were obtained using the duplicating ink pad. The fingertip patterns were analysed according to the classical method, and configurational types were classified according to the topological method. Statistical Analysis: The data obtained were subjected to statistical analysis using SPSS version 20.0 and the test of proportion and Chi-square test was used for the analysis. Results: Whorl type of fingerprints were observed more in impacted teeth patients whereas loop type of fingerprints was observed more in healthy patients. Conclusions: There is a significant correlation between impacted teeth and Dermatoglyphics and it can be used as a predilection marker.

48. Rhinocerebral maxillary mucormycosis: A palatal ulcer

Abstract: Mucormycosis, caused by saprophytic fungi of the order Mucorales of the class zygomycetes, is a rare opportunistic fungal infection, which has a rapidly progressive and fulminant course with fatal outcome. Mucormycosis can result in an acute, rapidly advancing and occasionally fatal disease caused by different fungi typically found in the soil in association with decaying organic matter such as leaves, compost piles, or bread molds. Mucormycosis is not contagious and does not spread from person to person. We report a case of palatal perforation by rhino-maxillary mucormycosis in an immunocompromised patient. The patient was treated and had a good prognosis for such a fatal condition.

Abstract: Background: Anterior shoulder dislocations (ASDs) are frequent painful injuries commonly treated in the emergency department. The last decade new potentially less traumatic and painful reduction techniques for ASDs have been introduced. Recent literature comparing best reduction techniques, medication use, and approaches is limited. To better guide future research including the use of these newer techniques, information about the current use of different reduction techniques and medication is needed. Methods: Our primary aim was to survey the techniques used by emergency practitioners to reduce ASDs. Our secondary objective was to gather data on medication usage during reduction. To these ends, we surveyed members of the Netherlands Society of Emergency Physicians. Results: Forty-four percent of respondents reported using a traction-based technique (Hippocrates or Stimson). Biomechanical techniques were used by 40% of respondents. Twelve percent reported using the Kocher leverage-based technique. Five percent of the techniques used could not be classified. A wide variety of procedural sedation and pain management interventions were reported, with an opioid and propofol being used most commonly. Approximately 9% of the reductions were attempted without any medications. Conclusions: To our knowledge, this is the first study of its kind on ASD management by emergency practitioners. Our results indicate that Dutch emergency practitioners employ all three classes of reduction techniques: traction-countertraction most commonly, closely followed by biomechanical techniques. Medication use during repositioning varied widely. Per our survey, emergency practitioners are desirous of an evidence-based guideline for ASD management.

50. Effects of smoking on hemoglobin and erythrocytes sedimentation rate and its association with ABO blood groups

Abstract: Context: “Smoking causes variation in different parameters of blood like hemoglobin (Hb) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR).” Continuous exposure to carbon monoxide leads to the formation of carboxyhemoglobin, an inactive form of Hb with no oxygen-carrying capacity; carboxyhemoglobin also leads to shifting in the Hb dissociation curve on the left side, causing a reduction in the ability of Hb to deliver oxygen to the tissue. Aims: The aim of this study was to compare the effect of cigarette smoking on Hb and ESR between smokers and nonsmokers and its association with ABO blood groups. Settings and Design: A total of 100 subjects which included 50 smokers and 50 age-matched nonsmoker controls were included in this study. Material and Methods: 5 ml of venous blood was collected by venipuncture method and Hb was measured by cyanmethhemoglobin method, ESR by Westergren's method, and ABO blood grouping by slide method. Statistical Analysis Used: Statistical software SPSS version 20 (SPSS, Chicago, Illinois) was used. Student's t test was performed for parametric numerical data and Chi-square test was performed for nonparametric categorical data. A value of P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The mean Hb was 16.83 g/dL in smokers and 14.42 g/dL in nonsmokers. The mean ESR was 5.36 mm in smokers and 3.96 mm in nonsmokers. Conclusions: A significant increase was seen in Hb and ESR in smokers when compared to nonsmokers. No significant association was seen between the ABO blood groups among smokers and nonsmokers.
