Immune-checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) have revolutionized the therapeutic landscape of cancer. However, optimal patient selection is still an unmet need. One-hundred-forty-six patients with metastatic cancer candidates to ICI at the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona Clinical Trials Unit were prospectively recruited in this observational study. Blood samples were collected at different timepoints, baseline LIPI score calculated and pre-ICI archived tissues retrieved to evaluate PD-L1, tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) and PD1 mRNA levels. Tumor assessments were centrally reviewed by RECIST 1.1 criteria. Associations with overall response rates (ORR), durable clinical benefit (DCB), progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were performed with univariable/multivariable logistic and Cox regressions, where appropriate. At a median follow-up of 26.9 months, median PFS and OS were 2.7 and 12.9 months. Response rates were 17.8% with duration of response (DOR) of 4.4 months. LIPI score was independently associated with PFS (p = 0.025) and OS (p p = 0.005). Time-to-best response (TTBR) and ORR (p p p = 0.028) and DCB (univariate p = 0.043). PD1 mRNA levels were strikingly associated to complete responses (p = 0.021). To resume, in our prospective observational pan-cancer study, baseline LIPI score, immunotherapy-naïve status, cancer type and RT before starting ICI were the most relevant clinical factors independently correlated with immunotherapy outcomes. Longer TTBR seemed to associate with better survival, while PD1 mRNA and PD-L1 protein levels might be tumor-agnostic predictive factors of response to ICI and should be furtherly explored.

BACKGROUND: It is known that 1-MCP delays softening in kiwifruit. Time to ripen (eating-window) and its variability are considered useful for planning commercial strategies. However, few studies report the firmness and quality changes during long-term cold storage. OBJECTIVES: To study the effects on ripening and sensory attributes of different 1-MCP treatments during long (180 d) and very long-term (≥210 d) cold storage. Then, the optimal 1-MCP dose was applied to determine the time to ripen after cold storage for 30 to 240 d. METHODS: Kiwifruits were treated with 1-MCP: 0.0 (control), 0.5 and 1.0μL L–1. Maturity indices and sensory analysis were achieved after 180 and 210 d of storage at 0 °C. Ethylene production was also measured. Firmness and number of fruits at eating-ripe state (at 20 °C) were monthly determined after 30 to 240 d of cold storage. RESULTS: 1-MCP (1.0μL L–1) delayed kiwifruit softening and prolonged the storage to up 180 d. Longer periods were associated to losses due to over-ripe. Eating windows of 1-MCP-treated fruits were longer than those for untreated fruits. CONCLUSIONS: 1.0μL L–1 1-MCP extends the postharvest life of ‘Hayward’ kiwifruit and prolongs the eating window, allowing to plan different commercialization strategies.

La superficie de los frutos de kiwi (Actinidia deliciosa var. Hayward) presenta una microbiota natural, que es alterada por las prácticas agrícolas utilizadas por cada productor al momento de la cosecha, el transporte, el almacenamiento y el empaque. Los objetivos de este trabajo fueron determinar la carga microbiana total y la presencia de patógenos (Escherichia coli O157:H7 y Salmonella spp) en kiwis luego de la cosecha y curado, en tres sitios diferentes del Partido de General Pueyrredón, provincia de Buenos Aires, Argentina; y optimizar la desinfección de la fruta entera con NaClO luego del almacenamiento en frío. Se cuantificaron bacterias aerobias mesófilas totales (BAMT), hongos filamentosos (HF) y levaduras (L) y se determinó presencia/ausencia de coliformes totales (CT), Escherichia coli O157:H7 y Salmonella spp. Se detectaron diferencias significativas (p≤0,01) entre las plantaciones, en los recuentos de la microbiota que afecta la calidad y vida útil de la fruta (BAMT y HF), siendo en Batán donde se halló el mayor contenido. Todos los cultivos dieron negativo para E. coli O157:H7 y Salmonella spp. Se seleccionó un método de desinfección con NaClO de concentración 300 ppm que permitió reducir la carga microbiana inicial de BAMT, HF, L y CT de la superficie de la fruta. Los resultados presentan el grado de contaminación ambiental y humana generada al finalizar la cosecha y el curado del kiwi en el Partido de General Pueyrredón, y un método sencillo para reducirla. Se destaca la ausencia de bacterias patógenas perjudiciales para la salud del consumidor., The surface of the kiwifruit (Actinidia deliciosa var. Hayward) presents a natural microbiota, which is altered by the agricultural practices applied by each producer at harvest time, transport, storage and packaging. The objectives of this work were to determine the total microbial load and the presence of pathogens (Escherichia coli O157: H7 and Salmonella spp.) in kiwifruit after harvesting and curing, in three different sites of General Pueyrredón, Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina; and to optimize the disinfection of the whole fruit with NaClO after cold storage. Total mesophilic aerobic bacteria (TMAB), filamentous fungi (FF) and yeast (Y) were quantified, and presence / absence of total coliforms (TC), E. coli O157: H7 and Salmonella spp was determined. Microbiota affecting quality and shelf life of the fruit (TMAB and FF) showed significant differences (p≤0.01) among plantations, being Batán the location where the highest content was found. All sites were negative for E. coli O157: H7 and Salmonella spp. A disinfection method with NaClO 300 ppm was selected to allow the reduction of the initial microbial load of TMAB, FF, Y and TC from fruit surface. The results showed environmental and human contamination generated at the end of harvest and curing of the kiwifruit in General Pueyrredón, and the selection of a simple method to reduce it. Para tanto não foi possível outro caminho que não aquele que contemplasse o entendimento da nossa sociedade como de classes, contando com o racismo e o patriarcado como seus elementos estruturantes. Nesse paradigma se inscreve o sistema jurídico penal, ferramenta de controle do capitalismo, que, portanto, reproduz práticas de violência e manutenção de opressões. A Guerra às Drogas emerge como um instrumento deste controle, se conformando, essencialmente, contra grupos vulneráveis, em especial as mulheres negras. Em incursão genocida, esta guerra opera deixando inconteste rastro de violência e dor, como atestado não só por pesquisas acadêmicas, como também pelas próprias instituições oficiais dos Estado-nação. É urgente, portanto, nos debruçarmos sobre essas práticas eivadas de letalidade e que atendem à necropolítica. This paper proposes to critically analyse condemnatory sentences of women imprisoned in Salvador whose convictions were motivated by the War on Drugs. For such, the only possible path was no other than the one which carried the understanding of our society as a class divided one, relying on racism and patriarchy as its structuring elements. The criminal legal system is immersed in this paradigm, and such system is a control tool of the captalism, which, therefore, reproduces practices of violence and maintenance of oppression. War on Drugs emerges as na instrument of such control, basically conforming itself against vulnerable groups, especially black women. In a genocidal incursion, this War opeartes by leaving behind an undoubtful trace of violence and pain, as attested not only by academic researches, but also by Nation-State's official institutions. Therefore, it is urgent for us to focus on such lethality-charged, necropolitics attending practices.

RESUMO Trata-se de um estudo crítico de decisões que resultam no encarceramento de mulheres pela prática do crime de tráfico de drogas, que se justifica em razão da contradição existente entre a política repressora de combate às drogas e as alternativas à privação da liberdade, que a própria legislação penal adota para afastar os efeitos deletérios do aprisionamento em massa. Dessa forma, o presente trabalho tem por escopo analisar as situações em que seria cabível a substituição de penas privativas de liberdade por penas restritivas de direito em sentenças de mulheres condenadas por tráfico de drogas, cujo cumprimento da pena privativa de liberdade é acompanhado pelo Conjunto Penal Feminino de Salvador/BA, através de uma análise crítica das sentenças relacionadas a tais casos. A análise foi feita sob a ótica da criminologia crítica, dos princípios constitucionais penais, considerando o funcionamento do sistema punitivo atual concernente ao crime de tráfico e à aplicação das respectivas penas. ABSTRACT This is a critical study of decisions convicting woman for drug trafficking to custodial penalty, justified by the contradictions existent between drugs fighting repressive politics and alternatives to freedom privation, adopted by the criminal legislation in order to keep away deleterious massive incarceration effects. In this way, the present work had for scope the analysis of situations in which would be appropriate the conversion of custodial sentences into rights restricting penalties in sentences of drug trafficking convicted women who are serving sentences in Salvador, through a critical analysis of the reasons presented by the magistrates for not converting them. The analysis was made from the perspective of critical criminology, criminal constitutional principles, considering how the current punitive system works when it comes to drug traffic and the application of their penalties.
