This comparative study examines a specific approach to public sector innovations in three European countries (UK, Finland, Denmark). As these countries are world leaders in the innovations, the knowledge gained through qualitative analysis of their government reports, publications and policy analyses can serve as an example of good practice and inspire other countries. The aim of the study is to find certain generalizing principles and procedures that can be followed in the interest of good public governance. The example of the three selected countries shows the current direction of the public sector innovation effort, how innovations are supported and implemented in the public sector. In general, the development of innovation in the public sector requires strong, concrete political (usually from the country's prime minister) and financial support, a clearly defined innovation strategy and a functioning innovation cooperation, which is set up and developed centrally. With regard to public administration, in contrast to the private sector, innovations are not regulated by law and their definition given by a law is missing. Municipal and regional governments play a crucial role in the field of innovations, supporting public sector development through local innovation laboratories/hubs and centers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The diploma thesis entitled "Geostrategic Importance of Greenland" deals with the current geopolitical position of the island in the context of advancing climate change. This brings Greenland many opportunities, but also threats that could affect its further development. The main aim of the work is therefore to examine how the geographical location of the island in combination with the advancing climate change affects its development, especially towards the future full independence from the Kingdom of Denmark. The work maps the current situation of Greenland in terms of newly emerging opportunities as well as the threats it also faces. Furthermore, the work focuses on the relationship between Greenland and Denmark and tries to describe the strategic importance of the island for Denmark. Although the Arctic is an area where states have cooperated in the past decades, in recent years tensions have been growing in the region between the Russian Federation, which is increasing its military presence there, and Western states represented by the North Atlantic Alliance. In addition, China is trying to penetrate the region, which is not indifferent to the strategic importance of the region, and other non-Arctic actors, led by the European Union, are also turning their attention to the region. in English This paper looks into how climate change is being covered by newspaper media in two Global South countries and two Global North countries - India, the Philippines, Denmark and Australia. While there is some literature on who the main sources are in climate change coverage, as well as how frequently climate change is covered in different countries, there is less literature on how climate change is framed, and how this relates to who the main sources are. Analyzing articles from three newspapers in each country, this content analysis gathered data on what sources are being predominantly used in news articles, and further, how these articles are being framed. It was found that climate change has become a highly politicized issue in the media across most of these countries, and that the main voice in how climate change is becoming to be understood is politicians - except for in Denmark. At the same time, it was found that climate change is mainly being framed as an issue in need of action - except for in Australia.

Users at the young adult age belongs to one of the target groups, which has great potential for public libraries. Attendance of young adults, i. e. people aged approximately between 25 and 35 years, significantly decreases in Czech public libraries in connection with the beginnig of economical activity (or graduation). With regard to the information needs of each target group is necessary to develop a specific range of services that will attract existing and potential users. This paper presents selected examples of good practice (cases for inspiration from Danish and Swedish libraries) which can be considered as inspirational in work with young adults. Nursing is a field that has been professionalized quite recently since the second half of the 20th century. Interest in its history rises at the end of 20th century, however, research is uneven. We have relatively well mapped history in England or USA, but informations on this topic from many other countries are not available to Czech readers. Therefore, this thesis is focused on one specific example of historical development, namely the Kingdom of Denmark. Studying history helps us understand which socio-economic, political, cultural or religious factors have influenced the current form and organization of the field. We can therefore be inspired to make positive changes in our own environment. It makes us think about an amount of questions. These questions include the influence of religion on society, the health and social policies of individual countries and the historical status of women in society. The aim of this thesis is to map the development of nursing in Denmark from its beginnings to the end of the 20th century. The partial goal is to provide an overview of the most important church influences, which were strong in Denmark even during the 20th century, to set the most important historical milestones and to introduce important personalities of Danish nursing. Furthermore, the author tries...

Equality: Age and gender Abstract Diploma thesis addresses age and gender inequalities in Czechia, Denmark, France and Poland, based on Special Eurobarometer 437 and Special Eurobarometer 465. It introduces basic terms connected with inequality in society as well as terms related to gender and age discrimination. The analytical part is focused on different perceptions of age and gender inequality by respondents from four selected countries. The questions are also analysed on base on the respondent's gender and their age group, either 25-34, or 55-64 years. The conclusion of the conducted survey data analysis is, that society in Czechia and Poland inclines towards gender-based prejudices and stereotypes more, than society in Denmark and France, which may be a consequence of stronger emphasis on gender equality in Western European countries. Age discrimination is more often noticed by Czech and French respondents, but it is clear, that respondents from all four countries perceive ageism as very serious and do not see adopted anti- discrimination measures as sufficient. Key words: discrimination, inequality, stereotypes, ageing, ageism, age discrimination, gender discrimination, Czechia, Denmark, France, Poland

The provision of online music streaming services and the management of copyright in the light of the Directive 2014/26/EU and its implementation in the Czech Republic and Denmark Abstract This thesis presents an insight into the management of copyright in musical works, with particular focus on their use in provision of online streaming services, together with the discernment of the individual aspects of such management in the context of changes brought about by the Directive 2014/26/EU and its implementation in the Czech Republic and Denmark. The aim of this thesis is to primarily describe the various models of copyright management and their importance for both the users of works and the right holders in the contemporary era of digital uses, and at the same time to analyse the individual legislative interventions into these models, confront them and infer possible de lege ferenda implications. The introductory part of the thesis also describes the streaming technology itself, especially with regard to its copyright aspects, whose grasp is essential for a proper description of the different modes of protection and application of copyright. The thesis is divided into eight chapters. The first chapter describes the historical development of copyright protection of works in the digital environment. The...

Nordic noir is a distinctive component of the current Nordic cultural export, which has become increasingly popular in recent years not only in Europe. One of the main characteristics of this genre is the description of tensions between the seemingly insignificant and peaceful social climate in the Nordic environment and the murders, racism, inequality and other malfunctioning mechanisms that occur beneath the surface. This creates an ideal spare for criticizing the welfare state. Denmark, as a representative of its Scandinavian model, is also one of the countries where nordic noir has spread very quickly. Therefore, this master thesis will be devoted to analyzing the criticism of the welfare state in the Danish series The Killing in order to demonstrate socio-critical tendencies in the aforementioned genre. It will further examine how they are approached and what specific aspects are subjected to criticism. The work aims to contribute to the current debate by presenting specific examples based on a detailed analysis of the selected case.

This diploma thesis focuses on history, position and activities of public service television broadcasters in selected European regions: South Moravia, Eastern Jutland, Andalusia and Scotland. In its theoretical section, we address the issue of the changing role of public service media in the era of technological convergence and new emerging opportunities in the environment of social media and other digital platforms. We also discuss the importance of regional television stations, studios and editorial offices from the viewpoint of both broadcasters and the citizens of particular regions. The empirical section consists of a comparative study focusing on the activities of Czech Television's studio in Brno, DR's production center in the Danish city of Aarhus, a regional station called TV2 Østjylland, RTVE's territorial center in Andalusia, a regional broadcaster RTVA and, last but not least, BBC Scotland. Based on interviews with key public service television managers in all four countries, we have mapped regional activities of these broadcasters from a number of perspectives: local and historical context; legislative and regulatory requirements; organizational and financial framework; broadcast content and interactive communication with the audience. The study also presents specific projects run by the...

The topic of my diploma thesis is the Danish foreign policy between the years 1945 and 1949 and its relation to the Danish national identity. The main research question is, if and how the Danish national identity influenced the state's shift from the traditional neutrality policy to the North Atlantic Agreement. To understand the national narrative I use a discoursive analysis of selected sources, mainly the daily press and political speeches intended for public. I focuse not only on the image Danes had about them selves, but also on their view of the other agents of the international relations - mainly on the Soviet Union, the United States and the North. The aim of this study is to analyze the development of the Schleswig-Holstein question, especially during the 1840s, and to outline Austrian Chancellor Metternich’s attitude on the issue. Metternich began to pay attention to the Schleswig-Holstein question after July 8, 1846 when Danish King Christian VIII issued the so-called Open Letter, after which Metternich was called on to express his stance. He was kept well-informed on the issue by the Austrian Ambassador to Copenhagen. Also, in the case of the Schleswig- -Holstein question, he continued in his policy of appeasement and suppressed all revolution attempts and national aspirations, especially among the Germans. Metternich was convinced that in this problematic situation, in which dynastic, national, political, and even revolutionary interests played their own individual roles – not to mention the legal interests of individual states and of the German Confederation – it would be possible to reach a satisfactory solution only if the powers involved – mainly Austria and Prussia – came to an agreement on common principles and aims.

Nowadays the Arctic becomes a new arena for political and economic interrelation of different states in their will to gain future benefits, which the region can bring. The aim of the thesis is to investigate the Arctic as an area of cooperation and (or) conflict between Russia and three EU states: Denmark, Finland and Sweden as well as the EU itself. This research paper looks on the problem from the perspective of rational- choice theory of international relations, which allows comparing the Arctic strategies of observed actors and their interests in the region. Despite existence of the Arctic Council as a platform for negotiations and multilateral agreements, as well as common will to solve the disputes there is still place for uncertainties in actor' view on the development of the Arctic. For this reason the question of the Arctic region is urgent for all above mentioned countries including the EU, which seeks to take its place in the debate.

Comparison of pension systems in Czechia and Denmark Abstract The main of thesis is to contribute to discussion on pension systems and their reforms with a focus on Czechia and Denmark. The Danish pension system is considered as the best in the world, that means it could serve as a model for the reform of the Czech pension system. The paper describes the general types of pension systems used worldwide and in more detail Czech and Danish pension systems. The second part introduces the expected population development of both countries in 2080 according to the projection EUROPOP 2013. In the analytical part of the paper are used two different models to calculated potential numbers of pensioners in 2075 and subsequently old dependency ratio. Both of models suggest a higher old dependency ratio in Czechia than Denmark.

The purpose of this dissertation is to demonstrate a new empirical and systemic geopolitical approach to the study of the ongoing territorial dispute in the Arctic resulting from the desire of two nation states, Denmark and Russia, to extend their own northernmost limits of the Exclusive Economic Zone to the central part of the Arctic Ocean. This approach combines geographic, legal and political analytical perspectives with quantitative research design to produce an inter-disciplinary study. Empirical evidence on the long-term socio-geographic development in the region (1993-2013) is provided together with information on particular territorial gains and losses for all decision-makers that arise in a number of potential scenarios (options). Variation in each decision-maker's aggregate national socio-geographic resource, as implied by particular territorial modifications in the central part of the Arctic Ocean, serves as a basis for derivation of nontrivial payoffs on each option in the dispute. These payoffs are introduced into a three-player graph model for conflict resolution (Denmark, Russia, and the World) and stable dispute solutions are suggested on the basis of different combinations of decision-makers' strategies, whose optimality is evaluated as well. Finally, alternative scenarios of...

In the second half of the twentieth century Norway repeatedly made efforts to become a member of the European Communities, which were later incorporated into the newly created European Union. Two referendums were held - in 1972 and 1994 and in both of them Norwegian citizens decided that Norway will not become a member of the EC/EU. Outcomes of the referendums were narrow, though. Interesting fact is, that referendums in the neighbor states - Denmark (1972) and Sweden (1994) ended up in favor of the European Communities/ the European Union. Bachelor thesis called "Norwegian Accession Process to the EC/EU Compared with Denmark and Sweden" concentrates on reasons of the different outcome of referendums in Norway compared to Denmark and Sweden. These Scandinavian countries have many similar characteristics, therefore was expected similar outcome. In my opinion there are three main reasons for the different results of the referendums. Firstly, there are Norwegian specifics, such as widely popular fishing and protection of agriculture. Second are economic reasons that are linked to big profits from crude oil and natural gas export. Last reason is strong national pride and fear of losing the decision making in key subjects. In the Norwegian society is still existing trauma connected with history and it is closely...

Public service television broadcasting holds a key role in the European media landscape. Furthermore, when we step down from the national level and take a look into individual regions, its importance and unique position become even more apparent. Local media companies may get bundled by strong ties between editorial staff and local advertisers while the official city journals may tend to function more like a mayor's speaking trumpet than impartial newspapers. Public service television - independent of local politicians or advertisers - has an opportunity to serve as one of the few unbiased and economically stable information sources, letting the people know about what's happening in their neighborhood: At the town hall, county seat or anywhere else within their own region. The Czech TV fulfills this role since its foundation in 1992. Starting with only seven regional newsrooms, it now operates 14 of them with a couple of new studios being built right now as the Czech TV aims to start self-reliant regional broadcasting in near future. This thesis brings a comparative study focused on the position, operations and production of the Czech TV's regional newsrooms in comparison with the situation in Denmark where regional public service television broadcasting enjoys a very privileged status since 1980s. (in English): This bachelor thesis should report about The Second Schleswig war as an encounter which led to much more serious conflicts such as Austro-Prussian War in 1866 as well as Franco-Prussian War from 1870, because this struggle and its consequences were the direct reasons of the war between two German Powers. Analysis of Austrian position in German Confederation showed that Austria hadn't have enough power and influence to play a major role in Germany and dominancy of Bismarck's Prussia was inevitable. The thesis continues with too self-confident Danish policy that started the war the Danes couldn't win. The Second Schleswig war has to be considered a one of the major events in unification of Germany. This work deals with the experimental art group Cobra which united artists of three countries - Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands, after the World War II. Although this movement was active only between the years 1948 and 1951, the beginning of this group can be traced in the pre-war period when the future members of the group were influenced by the mainstream art movements. Similarly, we cannot see the year 1951 as the end of the importance of this international art formation. Despite the short duration, the group united number of artists from different countries who then influenced many of future artists and art movements. This work therefore mentions the activity of Cobra members before the actual establishment of the group, attempts to describe in detail its work during its existence, and lastly, it indicates its further heading. A special chapter is dedicated to the connection of the group Cobra to the Czech art. The artists of Cobra drew their main inspiration from the work of arts of specific groups, such as that of children, mentally ill, so called primitive nations, or from the folk art. Alongside that, the artists created their own unique style based on collective and spontaneous work and liberal art expression. The plurality of their art expression and their relationship to other art...

Then thesis further examines Danish integration policy for the descendants of immigrants, its basic objectives and means of implementation. Additionally, some of the tools that have been proven successful are described. In conclusion, it is possible to state that Denmark can serve as an inspiration for the whole integration process, rather than to use only some of its unique tools separately. For open and rigorous approach to the integration of children of immigrants, Denmark remains one of the leading countries in promoting intercultural dialogue throughout the society.

The thesis is exploring art and architecture in Denmark and Czechoslovakia in the period 1947-1957. The main interest was to see how the interwar avant-garde movements such as Functionalism and Surrealism, as well as the legacy of Bauhaus, developed after the WWII. Yet, Functionalism and Surrealism can also be seen not only as mere artistic styles but as two different attitudes towards life, Rational and Romantic respectively. The latter, which is a passionate protest against the status quo, can especially in its revolutionary or utopian dimension serve as a form of engagement free of the simplifying Cold War binaries.

Danish immigration and integration laws were after their enactment often criticised by international human rights organisations and we can consider this laws as one of the strictest in nowadays society. Big influence on application of these laws had a political party called Danish people's party. Danish people's party is defined as populist right-wing party since their foundation in 1995. The main focus of this paper is how Danish people's party influenced immigration policy in Denmark. Is necessary to consider even the history of immigration in Denmark, because the society used to be mostly homogenous. This changed in the second half of the 20th century and nowadays foreigners represent more than 10% of Danish society. This is one of the reasons why immigration and integration became very relevant topic. And because of number of issues and problems with integration of immigrants in Danish society anti-immigration attitude of Danish people's party gain support among Danes. This behaviour results in growing fear of immigrants in Danish society and it's especially visible in case of Muslims. In the other hand strict immigration and integration make members of minorities feel unwelcome in Denmark and unequal with Danish citizens.

Comparison of development of selected demographic characteristics in the Nordic countries since 1990 Abstract The objective of this study is to compare the development of selected demographic characteristics in the Nordic countries since 1990. In this paper the Nordic countries are defined as a five state formations in Northern Europe: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. The analysis shows that the demographic development of Nordic countries is not the same and each state has its own specifics. As expected, the most distinct development had Iceland, which thanks to higher fertility rate had younger age structure. Different development had also Finland, which was aging the most and had a lower life expectancy at birth for men. Surprisingly low mortality rates were observed in Denmark, in particular for women. The curve of total fertility rate in Sweden, which was quite different from the rest of the Nordic countries, was following its rollercoaster pattern also in the period 1990-2011. The uniqueness in demographic behaviour of the Nordic countries was confirmed by the results of cluster analysis. In 1990 and 2011, these five states were in one cluster mainly due to the high percentage of live births outside marriage and in 2011 also due to higher total fertility rate. Because these states were...

This thesis deals with aspects of Danish immigration and Danish immigration policy. It aims to investigate which influences were the most significant in forming the present restrictive course of Danish immigration policy. In order to fulfill the aim of this thesis, changes made in immigration policy since the 1970's until today are analyzed and subsequently those events concerning both the national territory and the rest of the world which have most likely influenced its current course have been selected. This research resulted in the discovery that both external influences, such as terrorist attacks, European integration or cartoon controversy, and internal occurrences, such as the influence of the Danish People's Party, the media and the atmosphere in society, played their part. Though a small country, Denmark attracts immigrants due to the fact that there is a generous state welfare system and a high level of economic and social development. Until the Second World War, the flow of immigrants had been moderate and they mainly came from European countries. The current scenario has changed dramatically since then and in the course of the last forty years, the Danish population has increased by up to half a million people. Moreover, two thirds of the today's immigrants come from non-western countries which remains a serious challenge for Danish immigration society and policy.
