Abstract

In children with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) who lack a human leukocyte antigen (HLA) identical sibling, the donor can be replaced with an HLA-matched unrelated donor (MUD) or a haploidentical donor (haplo). We compared outcomes of patients <18 years with AML in first and second complete remission (CR1 & CR2) undergoing a hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HCT) either with a MUD with anti-thymocyte globulin (ATG) (N=420) or a haplo HCT with post-transplant cyclophosphamide (PT-CY) (N=96) after a myeloablative conditioning regimen (MAC) between 2011 and 2021, reported to the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation. A matched pair analysis was performed to adjust for differences among groups. The final analysis was performed on 253 MUD and 95 haplo-HCT. In the matched cohort, median age at HCT was 11.2 and 10 years and median year of HCT was 2017 and 2018, in MUD and haplo-HCT recipients, respectively. The risk of grade III-IV acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) was significantly higher in the haplo group (hazard ratio [HR]=2.33, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.18-4.58; P=0.01). No significant differences were found in 2 years overall survival (OS; 78.4% vs. 71.5%; HR=1.39, 95% CI: 0.84-2.31; P=0.19), leukemia-free survival (LFS; 72.7% vs. 69.5%; HR=1.22, 95% CI: 0.76-1.95; P=0.41), CI of relapse (RI; 19.3% vs. 19.5%; HR=1.14, 95% CI: 0.62-2.08; P=0.68) non-relapse-mortality (NRM; 8% vs. 11%; HR=1.39, 95% CI: 0.66-2.93; P=0.39) and graft-versus-host free relapse-free survival (GRFS; 60.7% vs. 54.5%, HR=1.38, 95% CI: 0.95-2.02; P=0.09) after MUD and haplo-HCT respectively. Our study suggests that haplo-HCT with PT-CY is a suitable option to transplant children with AML lacking a matched related donor.

Sklodowskiej-Curie 9, Bydgoszcz 85-094, PolandTel +48 52 585 48 60Fax +48 52-585 4087Email k.czyzewski@cm.umk.plObjective: The analysis of epidemiology, risk factors and outcome of viral infections in children and adolescents after hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT).Methods: In this multicenter nationwide study a total of 971 HCT procedures (741 allo-HCT; 230 auto-HCT) over a period of 6 years were analyzed.Results: During this period 801 episodes of viral infections were diagnosed in 442 patients. The incidence of viral infections was 57.9% in allo-HCT and 4.8% in auto-HCT patients. The most frequent infections after allo-HCT were caused by cytomegalovirus (CMV), polyoma BK virus (BKV) and Epstein–Barr virus (EBV). The majority of infections occurred within the first 4 months after allo-HCT and over 80% required pharmacotherapy or symptomatic therapy. The median time of treatment of specific viral infection ranged from 7 (for EBV) to 24 (for CMV) days. The highest mortality was observed in case of CMV infection. The risk factors for viral infections were allo-HCT, acute leukemia, acute and chronic graft versus host disease (a/cGVHD), and matched unrelated donor (MUD)/mismatched unrelated donor (MMUD)-HCT. The risk factor for death from viral infection were CMV-IgG seropositivity in acute lymphoblastic leukemia recipient, and MUD/MMUD-HCT. The incidence of EBV infection requiring pre-emptive treatment with rituximab in allo-HCT children was 19.3%. In 30.8% cases of EBV infection, these episodes were preceded by other viral infection and treated with antivirals, which did not prevent development of EBV-DNA-emia with need of rituximab treatment in 81.5% cases. In 47.7% of these cases, GVHD was a factor enabling development of significant EBV-DNA-emia during antiviral therapy of other infection.Conclusion: We have shown that antiviral drugs do not prevent EBV reactivation in allo-HCT pediatric patients.Keywords: children, EBV, HCT, infectious complications, risk factors analysis, viral infections

Bacterial infections occurred in 74.3% patients with ES and in 41.1% with OSA. The median time from diagnosis to first infection was 4.9 months. 33.0% of bacterial episodes were diagnosed as bloodstream (BSI), 31.1% as gastrointestinal tract, 30.1% as urinary tract infection. Infection-related mortality (IRM) from bacterial infection was 6% and 15% in ES and OSA patients, respectively. Cumulative incidence was 7.1% for invasive fungal disease and 6.3% for viral infections. The only significant risk factor for IRM was time to infection ≥5 months since the beginning of chemotherapy. All patients who have died from infection had BSI and were in neutropenia.Conclusions: Infections in the children with MBT in our study occurred with high frequency, especially in patients with ES. The most frequent were bacterial infections, while fungal and viral infections were episodic. Among the bacterial infections, bloodstream, urinary tract and gastrointestinal tract infections occurred with similar frequency. All deceased patients died due to BSI. Abstract

The p53 mutation spectrum can generate hypotheses linking carcinogen exposure to human cancer. Although it is well-documented that tobacco smoking is a major cause of lung cancer, the contribution of air pollution is less well-established. We determined the molecular and immunohistochemical changes (p53 gene mutations, p53 protein accumulation and WAF1 protein expression) and genetic polymorphisms of GSTM1, CYP1A1 and CYP2D6 genes in a case series of non-small-cell lung cancers from Silesia. This region of southern Poland is highly industrialized with considerable environmental pollution. More than 50% of lung cancers (90/164) contained p53 mutations and 75% showed the combined alteration of the p53 gene and protein accumulation. Males occupationally exposed to coal-derived substances showed a relatively high frequency of squamous and large-cell carcinomas, relatively frequent mutations in codon 298 of p53 and a low frequency of p53 immunohistochemically positive tumours. Codon 298 GAG→ →TAG mutations have rarely been found in lung cancers in other populations. We found no correlation between WAF1 protein expression and mutations in the p53 gene or p53 protein accumulation. No statistically significant relationship was found between p53 mutations and GSTM1, CYP1A1, CYP2D6 genotypes. Never smokers with lung cancers from Silesia had a higher frequency of G:C→ →T:A transversions than previously reported of the p53 mutation spectrum in never smokers (6/15 vs 4/34; P = 0.06 by χ2). These data are a tentative indication that occupational and environmental exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, such as benzo(a)pyrene, in polluted air contributes to the molecular pathogenesis of lung cancer in never smokers. © 1999 Cancer Research Campaign

Abstract

Recently, it was suggested that the presence of total cholesterol (TC), age and sex interaction in Alzheimer's type dementia (AD) is linked with the apolipoprotein E (APOE) genotype. Our objective was to determine whether the serum lipid profile in AD patients and their first degree non-demented relatives of a certain age (NDR) was dependent on APOE genotype. We included 28 mild to moderate AD and 30 NDR according to DSM-III-R and NINCDS-ADRDA criteria. NDR individuals were investigated in an age group similar to the AD group (brother-sister relationship) and in a group including younger individuals (AD patients-children relationship). Our data indicate significant differences between decreased total cholesterol and low density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio in the group of AD patients versus NDR individuals of similar age, independent of APOE genotype, and an increased total cholesterol and low density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio in a group of AD patients versus their children of the same genotype. There was no significant correlation between triglycerides and high density lipoprotein levels with APOE genotype in any of the tested groups. In conclusion, there was a decreased selected lipid serum profile parameters in AD compared to age matched non demented first degree relatives.

Abstract

Injection of bupivacaine into the rat anterior tibial muscle produced rapid necrosis with disintegration of muscle fibres and phagocytic infiltration within two days. Regenerating myotubes appeared four days after injection, and muscle structure was restored seven days after injection. One day after injection, axons and end-plate cholinesterase appeared normal in spite of the underlying muscle fibre necrosis. Intensity of cholinesterase staining was gradually reduced through the second and third day but axons remained intact. On the fourth day, newly formed end-plates delineated by cholinesterase stain were seen on myotubes. Some were innervated by thin regenerating axons. Axonal outgrowth appeared to compensate for occasional neuronal degeneration and for the greater number of end-plates on myotubes. In some areas, not all end-plates were innervated by the fourth day but were by the fifth day. On the sixth and seventh day after myotube maturation, a process of degeneration of superfluous end-plates and axons occurred, reducing their number to the number of muscle fibres. Fourteen and 28 days after injection, the innervation pattern was normal except for a slight increase in terminal innervation band width. These results indicate that injection of bupivacaine does not directly affect intramuscular nerves and that the changes observed in this experimental model are the consequence of muscle fibre degeneration and regeneration.

Abstract

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a multifactorial movement disorder characterized by progressive neurodegeneration. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have nominated over fifteen distinct loci associated with risk of PD, however the biological mechanisms by which these loci influence disease risk are mostly unknown. GWAS are only the first step in the identification of disease genes: the specific causal variants responsible for the risk within the associated loci and the interactions between them must be identified to fully comprehend their impact on the development of PD. In the present study, we first attempted to replicate the association signals of 17 PD GWAS loci in our series of 1381 patients with PD and 1328 controls. BST1, SNCA, HLA-DRA, CCDC62/HIP1R and MAPT all showed a significant association with PD under different models of inheritance and LRRK2 showed a suggestive association. We then examined the role of coding LRRK2 variants in the GWAS association signal for that gene. The previously identified LRRK2 risk mutant p.M1646T and protective haplotype p.N551K-R1398H-K1423K did not explain the association signal of LRRK2 in our series. Finally, we investigated the gene-gene interaction between PARK16 and LRRK2 that has previously been proposed. We observed no interaction between PARK16 and LRRK2 GWAS variants, but did observe a non-significant trend toward interaction between PARK16 and LRRK2 variants within the protective haplotype. Identification of causal variants and the interactions between them is the crucial next step in making biological sense of the massive amount of data generated by GWAS studies. Future studies combining larger sample sizes will undoubtedly shed light on the complex molecular interplay leading to the development of PD.

Abstract

Alzheimer's disease is a genetically heterogeneous disorder of CNS. The presence of APOE-epsilon 4 allele is known to increase the risk of early and late onset sporadic and late onset familial forms of AD. In various Western European countries, USA, Canada, Japan and Australia the allelic frequency ranges between 0.1-0.18 in controls, and between 0.24-0.52 in AD patients. In the present study on Polish population, we analyzed the frequency of APOE-epsilon 4 allele in persons with Alzheimer's disease (AD). APOE genotypes were determined in 30 mild to moderate AD (83%) and mixed dementia (MIX, 17%), as well as in 11 nondemented first-degree relatives of AD (NDR), recruited from AD patient registry in Warsaw. Among the AD and MIX patients the APOE-epsilon 4, epsilon 3, epsilon 2 allele frequency was 0.333, 0.65 and 0.017 respectively.

Abstract

Nucleoside analogues such as fludarabine and cladribine are used in therapy of indolent lymphomas and leukemias in adults, while cytarabine is used mainly in protocols for acute leukemias. Mechanisms of their activity is based on inhibition of enzymes involved in DNA, RNA and protein synthesis. The objective of the study was the analysis of in vitro cellular drug sensitivity in childhood acute lymphoblastic (ALL) and myeloid (AML) leukemia. Isolated leukemic cells obtained from 264 patients, including 152 initial ALL, 45 relapsed ALL, 54 initial AML and 13 relapsed AML were tested for cytotoxicity for fludarabine, cladribine, and cytarabine by the MTT assay. Drug concentration lethal to 50% of tested cells was regarded as a value of drug resistance. Three tested nucleoside analogues showed highest cytotoxicity against initial ALL samples. Samples of relapsed ALL and initial AML were more resistant than ALL de novo ones. Unexpectedly, no differences were observed between initial and relapsed AML samples for all tested drugs, what suggests that nucleoside analogues are active drugs in relapsed AML, which is commonly regarded as a resistant disease. All tested drugs presented significant cross-resistance in each of analyzed subgroups. In summary, tested nucleoside analogues presented relatively good activity against childhood leukemias at relapse stage.

Abstract

Aims and Objectives: A new pathomechanism of Parkinson's disease (PD) involving regulation of mitochondrial functions was recently proposed. Parkin complexed with mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM) binds mtDNA and promotes mitochondrial biogenesis, which is abolished by PARK2 gene mutations. We have previously shown that mitochondrial haplogroups/clusters and TFAM common variation influenced PD risk. We investigate the role of PARK2 polymorphisms on PD risk and their interactions with mitochondrial haplogroups/clusters as well as with TFAM variability.Methods: 104 early-onset PD patients (EOPD, age at onset ≤ 50 years) were screened for PARK2 coding sequence changes including gene dosage alterations. Three selected PARK2 polymorphisms (S167N, V380L, D394N) were genotyped in 326 PD patients and 315 controls using TaqMan allelic discrimination assay.Results: PARK2 screen revealed two heterozygous changes in two EOPD patients: exon 2 deletion and one novel synonymous variation (c.999C > A, P333P). In association study no differences in genotype/allele frequencies of S167N, V380L, D394N were found between analyzed groups. Stratification by mitochondrial clusters revealed higher frequency of V380L G/G genotype and allele G in PD patients, within HV cluster (p = 0.040; p = 0.022, respectively). Moreover, interaction between genotypes G/G V380L of PARK2 and G/G rs2306604 of TFAM, within HV cluster was significant (OR 2.05; CI 1.04-4.04; p = 0.038).Conclusions: Our results indicate that co-occurrence of G/G V380L PARK2 and G/G rs2306604 TFAM on the prooxidative HV cluster background can contribute to PD risk. Abstract

A single nucleotide polymorphism in the promoter region of the dopamine beta-hydroxylase gene (DBH -1021C>T; rs1611115) is reported to regulate plasma enzyme activity levels. This variant has also been the focus of two large association studies in Parkinson's disease yielding conflicting results. We examined this association in four Caucasian patient-control series (n=2696). A modest protective association was observed in the Norwegian series (OR=0.81, p=0.03; n=1676), however, the effect was in the opposite direction in the Polish series (OR=2.01, p=0.01; n=224). No association was observed for DBH -1021C>T with disease susceptibility in the US and Irish series, or combining all four series (OR=0.91, p=0.16, n=2696). We observed a modest association between DBH -1021C>T and AAO in the combined series (p=0.01). Taken together, these findings indicate that DBH -1021C>T does not play a major role in the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

In children with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) who lack a human leukocyte antigen (HLA) identical sibling, the donor can be replaced with an HLA-matched unrelated donor (MUD) or a haploidentical donor (haplo). We compared outcomes of patients <18 years with AML in first and second complete remission (CR1 and CR2) undergoing a hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HCT) either with a MUD with anti-thymocyte globulin (ATG) (N=420) or a haplo HCT with post-transplant cyclophosphamide (PT-CY) (N=96) after a myeloablative conditioning regimen (MAC) between 2011 and 2021, reported to the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation. A matched pair analysis was performed to adjust for differences among groups. The final analysis was performed on 253 MUD and 95 haplo-HCT. In the matched cohort, median age at HCT was 11.2 and 10 years and median year of HCT was 2017 and 2018, in MUD and haplo-HCT recipients, respectively. The risk of grade III-IV acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) was significantly higher in the haplo group (hazard ratio [HR]=2.33, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.18-4.58; P=0.01). No significant differences were found in 2 years overall survival (OS; 78.4% vs. 71.5%; HR=1.39, 95% CI: 0.84-2.31; P=0.19), leukemia-free survival (LFS; 72.7% vs. 69.5%; HR=1.22, 95% CI: 0.76-1.95; P=0.41), CI of relapse (RI; 19.3% vs. 19.5%; HR=1.14, 95% CI: 0.62-2.08; P=0.68) non-relapse-mortality (NRM; 8% vs. 11%; HR=1.39, 95% CI: 0.66-2.93; P=0.39) and graft-versus-host free relapse-free survival (GRFS; 60.7% vs. 54.5%, HR=1.38, 95% CI: 0.95-2.02; P=0.09) after MUD and haplo-HCT respectively. Our study suggests that haplo-HCT with PT-CY is a suitable option to transplant children with AML lacking a matched related donor.

Abstract

Septic shock is a very rare manifestation of invasive fungal disease (IFD) in children after allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HCT). The objective of this paper is analysis of two cases of pediatric patients with IFD caused by Saprochaete clavata after allo-HCT. Literature data on this infection in children and its outcome were also summarized. Infection with Saprochaete clavate presenting with symptoms of septic shock was being reported in 4 children, and 2 of them survived the infection. 43. Focal Crescentic Glomerulonephritis Following COVID-19 Viral Vector Vaccination.

Abstract

Vaccination is a vital tool aimed at curbing the COVID-19 pandemic, and the FDA has authorized several vaccines for emergency use to combat COVID-19. Our patient presented with acute kidney injury two weeks after receiving the first dose of the COVID-19 Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine. Renal biopsy confirmed focal crescentic glomerulonephritis. The patient has been unable to achieve remission after diagnosis and is now a candidate for a kidney transplant. In conclusion, this case report provides insight into the possible relationship between glomerular disease following COVID-19 Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccination. Abstract

Background: Infections caused by Stenotrophomonas maltophilia (SM) have documented high mortality rate in immunocompromised patients., Aim: This nationwide multicenter study was performed to analyze the epidemiology of SM infections in children undergoing anticancer therapy (pediatric hematology and oncology [PHO]) or hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) over 2012-2019, including incidence and outcome of SM infections, as well as treatment regimens and multidrug resistance., Methods: Cumulative incidence of SM infections was calculated using the competing risk analysis from the day of diagnosis (PHO setting) or from the day of transplantation (HCT setting). The Kaplan-Meier method was used to determine survival from infection., Results: During the study period of 8 years, a total number of 1356 HCTs and 7337 children newly diagnosed for malignancy were analyzed. Diagnosis of acute leukemia was a predisposing factor for SM infection. The cumulative incidence of SM infections was comparable in HCT patients in comparison to PHO (0.81% vs. 0.76%). High rate of trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole susceptibility among SM isolates was observed in both groups of patients (80.8%). Although this was the drug of choice, survival rates from SM infections were significantly lower in HCT than in PHO (45% vs. 85%, P = 0.001, log-rank test). We found the transplant procedure and lack of clinical resolution after 18 days of antibiotic therapy to be independent mortality risk factors., Conclusions: The risk of SM infections and the occurrence of resistant bacterial strains in allo-HCT patients were comparable to PHO patients. Abstract

Background/aim: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is one of the major causes of morbidity following hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT). Allogeneic HCT (allo-HCT) recipients are at the highest risk of clinically significant CMV reactivation. While letermovir has been approved for prophylactic use in CMV seropositive adults, reports on pediatric data are very limited. The objective of the study was to examine the use of letermovir for prophylaxis from CMV infection in children undergoing allo-HCT in a single center., Patients and Methods: This retrospective matched-pair analysis study included 39 CMV-seropositive pediatric patients undergoing allo-HCT receiving letermovir as a primary prophylaxis for CMV infection on a compassionate-use basis (LMV group, n=13) or not (control group, n=26). There were no differences in basic characteristics between the analyzed groups. Among patients of the study group, 12 received primary prophylaxis with letermovir from day +1 after HCT. One patient, previously treated with ganciclovir received secondary prophylaxis from day +18., Results: Prophylactic dose of letermovir was adjusted to cyclosporine co-administration, varied in between 120-480 mg, and given orally, once daily. No CMV reactivation was observed during administration of letermovir. Cumulative incidence of CMV reactivation was significantly higher for the control group not receiving prophylaxis. Of the 13 patients of the study group, three died; however, deaths were not attributable to CMV infection. We did not observe any toxicities related to letermovir., Conclusion: Our data support letermovir prophylaxis efficacy and safety in pediatric patients after allo-HCT. Abstract

Background/aim: Comparison of transplant outcomes in long-term follow-up of children after total body irradiation (TBI)- or chemotherapy-based conditioning allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HCT)., Patients and Methods: Patients undergoing allo-HCT for Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) conditioned either with TBI (n=55) or chemotherapy (n=84) were compared. The following transplant outcomes were analyzed: overall survival (OS), event-free survival (EFS), relapse incidence (RI), and graft-versus-host-disease (GVHD)-free-relapse-free survival (GRFS)., Results: All analyzed long-term transplant outcomes were significantly better for patients conditioned with TBI at 2 years after transplant. OS at 2 years was 84% after TBI and 60.5% after chemotherapy-conditioning (p=0.005). Risk factor analysis showed that two factors, TBI-based conditioning and transplant in first remission of ALL, significantly improved OS, EFS, GRFS, and decreased RI., Conclusion: TBI-based conditioning before allogeneic HCT in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia provides significantly better transplant outcomes, when compared to chemotherapy-based conditioning., (Copyright © 2021 International Institute of Anticancer Research (Dr. George J. Abstract

Background: Infectious complications (IC) caused by bacterial strains often impede anticancer therapy. The study aimed to retrospectively analyze bacterial IC that could help predict the risk and optimize the empirical treatment for bacterial infections in pediatric cancer patients. Patients and Methods: Over a 72-month period, all-in 5,599 children with cancer: 2,441 patients with hematological malignancy (HM including acute leukemias, Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphomas [NHLs], and Langerhans cell histiocytosis) and 3,158 with solid tumors (STs including central nervous system tumors, neuroblastoma, Wilms' tumor, soft tissue sarcoma, germ cell tumors, Ewing sarcoma, osteosarcoma, hepatoblastoma, and others) were enrolled into the study. Episodes of bacterial infectious complications (EBICs) confirmed by microbiological findings were reported by each hospital and analyzed centrally. Results: At least 1 EBIC was diagnosed in 2,155 (36.8%) children (1,281 [59.4%] with HM and 874 [40.6%] with ST; p  < 0.001). All-in 4,860 EBICs were diagnosed including 62.2% episodes in children with HM and 37.8% in children with ST ( p  < 0.001). Having analyzed the source of infections, blood stream infections predominated, apart from NHL patients in whom the most common type was gut infections. The profile of bacteria strains was different in HM and ST groups ( p  < 0.001). However, in both groups the most common Gram-negative pathogen was Enterobacteriaceae, with the rate being higher in the HM group. Among Gram-negative strains low susceptibility to ceftazidime, whereas among Enterococcus spp. low susceptibility to vancomycin was noticed. The rate of multidrug-resistant (MDR) pathogens was high, especially for Gram negatives (47.7% vs. 23.9%; p  < 0.001). The survival after infections was comparable for HM and ST patients ( p  = 0.215). Conclusions: The risk of bacterial IC in HM patients was higher than in the ST group. The high rate of MDR strains was detected in pediatric cancer patients, especially in those with HM.

Abstract

High-dose chemotherapy with autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation improves event-free survival in patients with high-risk neuroblastoma. However, in heavily pretreated patients, poor marrow function can be an obstacle in the successful proceeding of therapy. Priming with plerixafor plus filgrastim is an option for effective mobilization and collection of stem cells. In addition, thrombopoietin agonist eltrombopag can improve the outcome of posttransplantation thrombocytopenia and poor graft function in the posttransplant setting. We describe a case of a child with high-risk neuroblastoma, for whom plerixafor and eltrombopag were used as an effective and safe supportive therapy.

Abstract

Toxoplasmosis is a potentially fatal complication after hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT). Pre-transplant seropositivity of graft recipient to Toxoplasma gondii (Nicolle et Manceaux, 1908) is an important factor for disease reactivation after HCT. As toxoplasmosis epidemiology varies all over the world, we performed a Polish nationwide retrospective cohort study to determine the seroprevalence of toxoplasmosis in donors and pediatric allogeneic and autologous HCT recipients and the incidence of clinically evident toxoplasmosis in this patient group. Polish adult donors had higher anti-T. gondii seroprevalence than Polish pediatric donors (28% vs 8%; OR = 4.4; p = 0.02) and allo-HCT recipients (28% vs 17%; OR = 1.9; p = 0.01). Clinically apparent disease occurred in 1% of allo-HCT recipients: it was diagnosed by PCR as cerebral and/or ocular toxoplasmosis and successfully treated with antiprotozoal therapy. Regarding current practice, no prospective screening for infection of T. gondii in pediatric HCT centres is being performed, but, vast majority of HCT pediatric patients are receiving anti-T. gondii active prophylaxis. Since pre-HCT T. gondii serology was not assessed in all HCT; recipients, we propose this test should be a standard practice. Standardisation of management with infection of T. gondii in children after HCT is needed.

Background/aim: The objective of the study was to propose clinical guidelines for the use of minimally invasive surgery (MIS) in pediatric oncology., Patients and Methods: Two groups of experts, including pediatric surgeons and pediatric oncologists were created in order to establish strategies of diagnostic and therapeutic surgical management in pediatric oncology., Results: On the basis of the analysis of the existing literature, we elaborated guidelines that were graded according to the simple practical clinical system: yes/no.
