The relationship between power, control, and violence defines the experience of intimate partner violence, abuse that occurs within the context of a current or former intimate relationship. Coercive control, including using violence and threats of violence to restrict another's freedom, is an especially dangerous manifestation of intimate partner violence. In this article, we point to an under-explored modality of power and control as well as resistance to intimate partner violence: the act of looking. Our analysis of interviews with 18 intimate partner violence survivors in the United States identified 'looking' as an emergent category in their experiences. We read these mentions of 'looking' through select insights from symbolic interactionism, post-structuralism, and postcolonial studies. We argue that acts of looking are everyday mechanisms for both the contestation and the maintenance of power and control in survivors' lives, highlighting dynamics of intimate partner violence that extend beyond physical violence. Paying attention to everyday forms of interaction like looking helps illuminate the webs of power in which survivors' intimate relationships are situated, including at the social and institutional levels. Therapeutic Gardens are green spaces focused on improving mental and physical healing, as well as provide wellbeing. Thus, these green spaces can constitute an important extension of the hospital space, complementing or even adding new functions to healthcare institutions. This article aims to contribute to the assessment of the conversion of current green spaces and permeable areas in 48 portuguese public hospital campuses into TG through the evaluation of 1) the current usability of green spaces, in order to assess whether the existing green spaces have structures, furniture, etc. that allow their use or whether it is necessary to construct them; 2) the existing tree cover in green spaces, as it is structural, allows to have a mature garden more quickly and provide more ecosystem services and 3) the proximity to hospital buildings with the aim of evaluating part of the direct access required by the TG. We conclude on the lack of usable green spaces and tree cover in most hospital campuses, which would imply a greater effort to reconvert these spaces. However, the existing green spaces and tree cover are located close to the hospital buildings, which also makes the conversion possible. We also noticed a lack of specifications for the construction of TG, mainly for specialized hospitals such as those for children and older adults, and also for evaluating green spaces quality in hospitals. El presente artículo tiene como propósito explorar las formas de interpretación de la enfermedad entre los rarámuri. Mediante entrevistas y observación en distintos periodos de trabajo de campo intentamos dar cuenta de que, a padecimientos como la tuberculosis, la diabetes o la hipertensión, se suman sintomatologías corpóreas y anímicas –entre otras, las producidas por el susto– que, para los rarámuri, son una enfermedad del alma, que afecta gravemente al cuerpo, perturbando su estabilidad y equilibrio físico. Intentamos mostrar que para los rarámuri los efectos de la covid-19 tuvieron menor impacto, debido a la dispersión de los asentamientos y, al mismo tiempo, encontramos que para los rarámuri las diversas interpretaciones de la enfermedad y sus efectos estuvieron ligados a su propia imagen del mundo, debido a que aún emplean métodos tradicionales de prevención y de curación de las enfermedades.

The aim of this article is to analyze the relevance of Psychoanalytic questions in the treatment of mental disorders within the context of contemporary Psychiatry based on a discussion about the phenomenon of the medicalization of life. It is a brief exploratory study on the healing in Freudian thought, with content analysis of Freud's manuscripts and analysis of the investigated field. In the treatment of mental illnesses today, society expects an innovative psychopharmacology, in which the symptom disappearing must be the main objective of this kind of intervention. Psychoanalysis, in turn, takes into account the latent sense of a symptom and the discourse of the subject about its suffering toward a psychoanalytic service and marks its difference from proposals in which the healing of mental disorders is restricted and excessive to the use of psychotropic drugs and pathologizing diagnoses. This article consists of an analysis of the curatorial text used in the exhibition Modernos Contemporâneos Volume 1, which brings together the collections of the museums of two Amazonian universities, in Belém do Pará, with works by 56 artists. Based on this excerpt, the aim is to understand this textual result of curation from an approximation between the fields of art and communication, especially in the processes of production of meanings. The curatorial text presented in the exhibition was subjected to content analysis to identify key elements applied to assist in the understanding of the exhibition's viewers, and, subsequently, to propose a dialogue through the authors José Luiz Braga (2015), Ciro Marcondes Filho (2019) and Vera França (2017). In the final considerations, it is concluded that the curatorial text is an important channel of communication, which goes beyond criticism and exhibition presentation, allowing the public to engage with new aesthetic experiences, making them part of this experience based on the information they receive, but which also carry specific discourses and intentions. The genesis of the term ex-votos dates to the Greek and Roman people and brings in its semantics the recognition of faith, being materialized in pieces that symbolize gratitude for a grace achieved, in many cases referring to the cure of an illness. Ex-votos can present themselves in diverse ways. However, this article aims to analyze some aspects of the ex-votive letters and notes researched through the Ex-votos do Brasil project, which aims to identify and catalog the vast typology of Brazilian ex-votos. The focus here is justified by bringing elements arising from a Folkcommunicational and linguistic process, with theoretical bases that substantiate the importance and strength that the ex-voto has with the medium. The study assessed the interaction between people and therapeutic plants in the traditional pharmacopoeia in different contexts of healing and religiosity. Homegardens in the towns of Abaetetuba and Vigia, and stands at the market, Feira da 25 de Setembro, in the city of Belém, PA, were investigated. The methodology included conducting semi-structured interviews and photographic records to analyze the cultural and religious value aggregated to plants and their use in the tradition of these populations. The use of 50 species of therapeutic plants was identified, 29 at Feira da 25, 11 in Abaetetuba and 19 in Vigia. There is a greater diversity of species at Feira da 25 and the demand is related to mystical rituals. The species mucuracaá, catinga de mulata, rosemary and basil are frequently used in ritual works for spiritual protection. In the homegardens, residents expressed spiritual and affective connections, wherein the plants have sacred meanings in addition to transmitting well-being. Both at markets and in homegardens, diversity in the use of species associated with the domain of knowledge and traditions passed down through family generations means the use of plants is effective at curing diseases of the body and soul. Introducción: En salud aún prevalece, a escala mundial, el modelo patogénico, el cual acentúa la etiopatogenia de la enfermedad, la curación o rehabilitación. Progresivamente se viene introduciendo el modelo de salutogénesis, que preconiza la importancia de la prevención primaria, el bienestar y la sanidad. El objetivo del artículo consiste en argumentar los nexos entre salutogénesis, curación y sanación, como categorías conectadas a la condición saludable de los sujetos, tomándose como fuente de sustentación el criterio de profesionales de la salud y la consulta de fuentes bibliográficas acreditadas acerca de la temática. Material y métodos: Se emplearon métodos y técnicas teóricos, empíricos y estadísticos. La sistematización teórica permitió caracterizar y relacionar los procesos de salutogénesis, curación y sanación. Se aplicó un cuestionario en línea a profesionales vinculados con el sector de la salud para indagar acerca de las categorías de sanación y curación, de los que se obtuvo respuesta de 35 especialistas. Los datos fueron procesados mediante la estadística descriptiva. Resultados: La exploración develó algunas diferencias y semejanzas entre los procesos curativo y sanador; destacándose el carácter más restringido del primero; en tanto la metodología más versátil y creativa, el carácter transformador y los efectos más duraderos del segundo. Se advierte que el nivel de dominio relativo a ambos procesos no es suficientemente extendido ni notorio, como se requeriría para una labor asistencial más efectiva.

Objective: To review the hoaxes’ characteristics spread through WhatsApp in Spain during COVID-19 lockdown and identify what kind of substances were promoted for consumption or application. Method: A phone number was activated to receive hoaxes via WhatsApp. A total of 2353 messages were collected, and among those 584 different hoaxes were identified and validated, between March 18 and April 18, 2020. From these 584 hoaxes, a sub-sample of 126 was selected, exclusively related to the object of study, and a content analysis table with fourteen registration fields was applied. Besides, the averages and medians of the quantitative fields were extracted. Results: Most of the messages received were texts (39%) and videos (30%). In the majority, the acting subject was presented as medical personnel (36.5%) or as an anonymous person (30.9%). The videos lasted between 2’ 40” and 18’ 18”, while the audios ranged between 1’ 35” and 7’ 48”. Regarding the gender of the informant, there was a significant difference, with 45.2% being male, and 13.5%, female and 41.3% non-identifiable. Conclusions: One out of five false health claims received was about prevention or cure of the coronavirus, based on the principle of medical authority, and basically promoting the use and consumption of substances of natural origin. Resumen: Objetivo: Examinar las características de los bulos difundidos por WhatsApp en España durante el confinamiento por la pandemia de COVID-19 e identificar qué tipo de sustancias se promovieron para su ingesta o uso. Método: Se habilitó un número de teléfono para recibir bulos por WhatsApp. Se recibieron 2353 mensajes, de los que se identificaron y validaron 584 bulos distintos, entre el 18 de marzo y el 18 de abril de 2020. De los 584 bulos, se seleccionó una submuestra de 126 relacionados con el objeto de estudio y se aplicó una ficha de análisis de contenido con 14 campos de registro. Además, se extrajeron las medias y medianas de los campos cuantitativos. Resultados: La mayor parte de los mensajes fueron cadenas de texto (39%) y vídeos (30%). En la mayoría, el sujeto se presentaba como personal médico (36,5%) o como persona anónima (30,9%). Los vídeos tuvieron una duración de entre 2’ 40” y 18’ 18”, mientras que los audios fueron de entre 1’ 35” y 7’ 48”. Con respecto al sexo, se apreció una gran diferencia: el 45,2% de los protagonistas fueron hombres, frente al 13,5% de mujeres; el 41,3% no era identificable. Conclusiones: Uno de cada cinco bulos recibidos fue sobre prevención o curación del coronavirus, argumentados sobre el principio de autoridad médica y básicamente promoviendo el uso y consumo de sustancias de origen natural.

The 2018 SAA statement encouraging collaboration between archaeologists and "responsible and responsive stewards" included recommendations epitomizing decades of established practice at the University of Iowa Office of the State Archaeologist (OSA), a research center housing the State Archaeological Repository of Iowa. At the time the SAA statement was published, OSA staff were actively implementing a grant supporting transfer to the State Repository of the John and Phil Palmquist Archaeological Collection. This grant was designed to provide hands-on research experience for undergraduate students interested in archaeology and collections management while recording improved site locational data and artifact specific documentation, including on relatively rare (for the area) red pipestone artifacts. Although modest by some standards, the Palmquist Collection includes 860 artifacts from 26 locations recorded through 40 years of surface survey by the family in a portion of Iowa that is rarely the focus of professional archaeologists. This article provides a case study of responsible archaeological practice implementing SAA recommendations, including treating collector-collaborators with respect, encouraging collector assistance in the recording of finds, capturing research data from a private collection, and facilitating curation of privately owned materials. Sinopsis: El objetivo de la limpieza del lecho de la herida es favorecer la remoción de materia extraña, rehidratar el lecho y acelerar el proceso de cicatrización, considerando siempre una evaluación holística del paciente. La limpieza es un paso fundamental en la preparación del lecho de la herida. En los últimos años, se ha intensificado la búsqueda y elaboración de soluciones limpiadoras con el potencial de promover la curación mediante la eliminación de barreras locales para la curación, sin comprometer el tejido sano y/o en formación. Entre ellas, el ácido hipocloroso (HOCl) puro pH 5.5 cumple con los objetivos de la preparación del lecho de la herida y de limpieza terapéutica de forma biocompatible, segura, eficaz y natural. Ante una ciencia mal-tratada desde su interior, un ojo enajenado y confundido en su visión, un ser humano cansado y desconfiado de la misma explicación, un mundo necesitado de comprensión y cuidado, ante unos cuantos insistentes de vivir en unos tiempos y espacios fragmentados, aparece la necesidad de escuchar de nuevo a lo propio, a lo primero y fundante como fuerza de transformación. Así, las siguientes letras reconocen un camino fenomenológico y contemplativo en la Gran Madre, la Hytcha Guaia, la Pachamama, el primer gran útero, matriz sagrada que alimenta y nutre lo humano en toda su manifestación. Para la psicología, saber de psyque, de alma, su tarea también está en mirarse, recuperarse y a través de un logos trascendente, integrativo, volver a la sensible y sentida escucha de lo divino como curación, por ello su afirmación a lo mágico, chamánico, potente y sagrado del conocimiento telúrico (de tierra), a la medicina que en ella habita y su sanación. La propuesta es el gran camino de andar la tierra, de sentir, escuchar y estar en conciencia de raíz, un camino de cuidado que constata en cada ritual y experiencia la fuerza espiritual de nuestro saber ancestral indígena como primera y perenne ciencia.

Objective/Context: This article examines the role of translators as agents and translation as a mediating strategy to establish Jewish-Argentine identities in Argentina, from the rise of Nazism until the end of the Second World War. It presents the case study of Jewish-Russian immigrant Salomón Resnick and his publishing project Judaica (1933-1946). The journal translated Jewish literary works to positively influence the opinions of Argentine intellectual elites about Jews, while aiding in the construction of Spanish-language Jewish-Argentine identities and culture. Methodology: A qualitative textual analysis of articles and works of fiction, original pieces and works translated by Judaica, as well as reviews of translated books of Yiddish literature by Argentine literary critics. These primary sources are interpreted vis-à-vis the global and local sociopolitical contexts to identify motives, editorial choices, and reception. Originality: This article adds to the historiography of Resnick's work and Judaica by unveiling the logics and strategies behind the representations and narratives about Jewishness produced by Judaica and the importance of the local context in these editorial choices. It also reveals how members of the Argentine cultural elite reacted to the journal and Resnick's translated Yiddish literature. Conclusions: While Judaica was limited in its reach and failed to measurably influence new Jewish-Argentine generations and effectively neutralize antisemitism, a study of reception in Argentina's literary circles signals that it had relative success in positively influencing the cultural elite's conceptions about Jews, Jewishness, and Jewish literature. Thus, the task of walking for years in the Colombian indigenous territory, its myths, traditions and rituals, has allowed the understanding of men sown spiritually on earth, in its pregnant womb, in the Hytcha Guaia. As a bridge to join a cosmogonic, mystical, epistemological, philosophical and psychic debate, the pretension is to return to the wisdom of our grandparents and grandmothers, to transcend the linear perspective, homogeneous and fractionated views of the academy, reality and health. A path of remembrance for the spiritual and original wisdom of fathers and mothers, who in their deepest, transforming and heartfelt senses bring men closer to becoming more humanistic.

This introduction to a collective essay collection on life stories, healing and religion revises connections between spiritual experience and perceptions of the body in the lives of early modern women, particularly nuns and women healers in Spain and America. By analysing sources such as court records, mystical writings, letters and legal statements, the journal essays that follow explore how individual identities are expressed through social networks, but also against externally imposed destinities.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the importance of the epiligament for the difference in the healing potential of the knee anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligament. To do so, we compared the structure of the anterior cruciate and the medial collateral ligament and evaluated the differences in the expression of collagen types I, III and V in a rat knee. We have also conducted a comparative quantitative analysis of the number of cells per mm2 in the two ligaments. Tissue samples were obtained from the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligament of 10 knee joints taken from five 8-month-old Wistar rats. We used standard hematoxylin and eosin staining, in addition to immunohistochemical staining with monoclonal antibodies against collagen types I, III and V. A semi-quantitative analysis of the expression was made through ImageJ, while Student's T-test was used for the statistical analysis. Our results showed higher expression of all collagen types in the epiligament, compared to the ligament proper and difference in the expression between the medial collateral and the anterior cruciate ligament in favor of the first. We also reported a statistically significant difference in the number of cells per mm2 between the two ligaments and their epiligaments. Our findings show a higher number of cells and a stronger expression of certain collagen types in the epiligament of the medial collateral compared to the anterior cruciate ligament, which may be related to the difference in their healing potential. Este artículo surge de la investigación “Manejo de las heridas quirúrgicas, desde el tipo, técnica e insumos utilizados en una ips. Armenia, Quindío, 2014, financiado por la Vicerrectoría de Investigaciones de la Universidad del Quindío. La investigación describe los métodos que son manejados para el cuidado de las heridas por parte del personal de enfermería que realiza dicho procedimiento, con el fin de conocer con detalle la técnica, o técnicas, y los procesos utilizados en el procedimiento, materiales, pasos, asepsia, entre otros; contrasta lo observado con los avances científicos-tecnológicos en este campo y determina el cuidado de enfermería brindado a los pacientes adultos hospitalizados con heridas de diferente etiología. La investigación fue de tipo Descriptiva-Transversal, con enfoque cuantitativo. La muestra se obtuvo a través de un muestreo intencional, para este caso, pacientes con herida quirúrgica hospitalizados en los servicios quirúrgicos, que ingresaron durante un trimestre por cirugía programada, complicaciones quirúrgicas o por cirugía de urgencia, en una IPS de tercer nivel de atención de Armenia, y quien es eligieron voluntariamente su participación. La técnica para la recolección de la información fue a través de la filmación del procedimiento. Posteriormente, se diligenciaron los instrumentos diseñados para los fines de la investigación; los datos fueron ingresados a Bases de Datos construidas y procesadas en SPSS.

Introduction: Venous ulcers generate physical, emotional, social and economic changes for patients, and the occurrence of infection in these wounds aggravates this situation. Objectives: i) To identify the socioeconomic characteristics of patients with infected venous ulcers selected for the study; ii) to describe the intensity of pain, reported by patients, during the dressing removal procedure; and iii) to analyze the evolution of clinical signs of infection of infected venous ulcers during the treatment of lesions with Hidrofiber technology and Ag + EXTRA technology. Method: Quasi-experimental study, following six participants for five weeks; diagnosis of venous ulcer; infection with the possibility of treatment with Hidrofiber and Ag + EXTRA Technology; exchange of protection coverage in their homes; present good cognitive and motor skills for learning. Participants were selected by completing the form to assess the ITB and clinical signs for infection. Result: An improvement in the total area was identified in the experiment group compared to the beginning of the healing follow-up and/or an improvement of approximately 91%. In contrast, the control group had a worsening in the total area compared to the beginning of the follow-up of approximately 32%. Conclusion: The most significant changes in the participants were the decline in the amount of exudate, the size of the lesions, the rapid healing process and the appearance of granulation and epithelial tissues. It was found that all participants who used the Hydrofiber technology and Ag + EXTRA Technology coverage associated with the unna boot, showed rapid and effective improvement of the lesions, when compared to the 0.1% polyhexamethylbiguanide and 0.1% betaine solution. Hafting is an important part of lithic technology that can increase our understanding of socioeconomic behavior in the past. In this article, we develop a holistic approach to studying hafting by using the concept of curation within a broader assessment of lithic technological organization in early villages. Early villages were loci of socioeconomic transformation as part of the shift from mobile foraging to more sedentary cultivation lifeways. We suggest that an examination of hafting can provide new insights into how early villagers negotiated technological requirements, economic decision making, and social interactions in these novel contexts. As a case study, we develop a curation index and apply it to an archaeological context of hafted and unhafted pointed tools from the early Neolithic village of Dhra', Jordan. This curation index allows for a discussion of the technological, economic, and social dimensions of hafting strategies at Dhra'. The presence of multiple hafting traditions within early Neolithic villages of Southwest Asia is evidence of persistent social segmentation despite food storage and ritual practices that emphasized communal integration. Through the lens of lithic technological organization, we demonstrate that hafting and curation patterns can increase our understanding of technological, economic, and social strategies in early villages. Abstract: Toni Morrison’s novels can be read as stories of trauma and healing. In Home, Morrison wants to demystify the 1950s, a time when blacks still suffered extreme violence and racial hatred. African Americans underwent both personal and collective traumas dated back to the time of slavery. Morrison depicts the restorative journeys of her characters from damaged victims towards self-sufficient and whole individuals. She deploys key elements of their recuperative process, such as storytelling, re-memorying, a supportive community, nature, etc. By the end of the novel, Frank and Cee, who carry the burden of an ominous past, experience healing and change. Título en español: “‘Herido justo en el centro…pero vivo y entero’: Curación en Volver de Toni Morrison” Resumen: Las novelas de Toni Morrison pueden ser interpretadas como historias de trauma y curación. En Home, Morrison desmitifica los años 1950, cuando los negros todavía sufrían extrema violencia y odio racial. Los traumas personales y colectivos de los afro-americanos remontan a los tiempos de la esclavitud. Morrison describe los viajes curativos de sus personajes, de víctimas dañadas a la auto-suficiencia e integridad, utilizando elementos claves de esta recuperación, como son el relato, la re-memoria, una comunidad acogedora, la naturaleza, etc. Al final de la novela, Frank and Cee, que arrastran la carga de un pasado ominoso, experimentan cambio y curación.

Neste ensaio fotográfico, apresento “Woundscapes. Suffering, creativity and bare life”, uma exibição de arte baseada em etnografia, produzida de forma colaborativa por 11 antropólogos e artistas de diferentes países, cujo trabalho se concentra na reprodução de olhares e estereótipos pós-coloniais e de memórias individuais que são ligadas às respetivas dinâmicas diaspóricas e às estratégias de cura dos imigrantes no amplo Mercado terapêutico da Grande Lisboa.

Este trabajo, resumen de un capítulo de libro no publicado por la Fundación Apostar a la Vida (Buenos Aires, Hospital Ramos Mejía), trata de establecer las relaciones entre el cáncer, como una de las enfermedades más temidas del siglo XX, y el imaginario social, según criterios citados y comentados de Bazko y Sontag. Esa búsqueda exploró en fenómenos del periodismo, de la radio y la televisión, pero aquí sólo aparecen algunas de las formas como el cine, y en especial el de Hollywood, expuso en su lenguaje las diversas problemáticas sociales y humanas generadas por dicha enfermedad. El cáncer fue motivo de interés para la ficción fílmica a casi diez años de la aparición del sonoro; la situación en la década del 50 está caracterizada a partir de la novela Pabellón del cáncer/ Rakoby Korpus (1968) de Alexander Solzhenytzin y de la película Obsesión/ Magnificent Obssesion (1954) de Douglas Sirk; hacia 1970, filmes como Love Story (Historia de amor) (1970) de Arthur Hiller y Gritos y susurros/ Viskingar och rop (1972) de Ingmar Bergman enfocaban también de maneras muy distintas la enfermedad y sus consecuencias. A fines del siglo XX y en lo que va del XXI, varias películas han indagado el desarrollo de los tratamientos y la existencia de nuevos métodos de curación que comienzan a desterrar la ecuación cáncer igual a muerte próxima y segura del imaginario social.

The articles in this issue present bioarchaeological case studies from across the globe, including North and Central America, East Asia, Europe, and the Near East. Some bioarchaeology projects are new and others are decades old, but common challenges emerge as researchers apply conservation standards to real situations in the field: a lack of training or resources for long-term curation of human remains, the lag between excavation and analysis of remains, and environmental challenges that include melting permafrost, tropical storms, and a variety of pests such as molds, fungi, bats, snakes, and insects. The studies also address ethical considerations about the use of digital images of human remains, molecular and isotopic methods that require the destruction of human tissue samples, the ability of fast-paced cultural resource management (CRM) projects to address the needs of descendant communities, and the responsibility that we have to the people we study. Techniques for addressing these challenges include new computer programs, more advanced photographic software, and research on the effects of conservation techniques that provide new "standards" for bioarchaeologists. Human skeletal remains constitute remarkably informative finds, both biologically and socioculturally. Their recovery, preservation, conservation, storage, and analysis are complex issues that need to be addressed within any given biocultural context. Given the country's geography and the long history of human occupation, Greek field archaeology is intense and ongoing, with both rescue and systematic excavations. Human burials are thus frequently encountered in excavations throughout Greece, resulting in the accumulation of osteological material. Some of the common challenges of bioarchaeological research in Greece consist of insufficient time, funding, and documentation in the field; unmet conservation needs and lack of storage space; as well as the long time-gap between excavation and analysis. Here, we give a brief overview of excavation, curation, and bioarchaeological practice within a Greek archaeological framework. We focus on the newly launched Phaleron Bioarchaeological Project on a vast necropolis from the wider Athens region in order to present our methodological approach. Finally, we consider the role of interdisciplinary collaboration in managing large-scale bioarchaeological projects and serving long-term heritage preservation goals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Archaeologists strive to understand ancient lifeways, and bioarchaeological data provide honest and immutable evidence of the realities of ancient society in the bodies of the dead. Given the importance of human remains in the archaeological record, a major component of the author's work has been devoted to the ethical responsibilities of bioarchaeologists in the treatment of the collections studied. However, the curation of skeletal remains is often challenging because the conservation and storage of these delicate materials may be afterthoughts in archaeological plans, being inadequately or incorrectly stored and sometimes treated to the same conservation conditions as more robust artifacts and samples. This article offers guidelines and recommendations for skeletal curation based on observations of curation challenges in a large collection in the subtropical Maya region. The collection was not well managed and human remains were not prioritized in the conservation program. The challenges and mitigations are presented here. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In recent years, both within and beyond academic and clinical spheres, medical and health humanities have become increasingly influential. Drawing from interdisciplinary fields in the humanities, social sciences, and the arts, medical and health humanities present unique lenses for considering nuanced spaces and lived experiences of health and health care; they also help challenge traditional ways that medicine and health care are understood and practiced. This collection brings together practitioners and theorists working broadly in medical health humanities, asking them both to consider their work as temporally and spatially located and to position their practices in conversation with a growing uptake of humanities methods and methodologies in other disciplines. The work of nine contributors uses these themes as a starting point for thinking about the future of medical health humanities in new and potentially even more productive ways.
