A study was conducted to analyze the flow associated with a flap edge, one of the three-dimensional properties of flow over a high-lift system. Structured, overset grids were utilized with an incompressible Navier-Stokes to calculate the flow over a two-element high-lift. The full-span and half-span Fowler flap configurations were then determined. Results indicated a number of flow features that significantly influence the performance of high-lift system. These include the flap-edge vortex, flow separation and spanwise lift distribution.

The effects of turbulence models on a massive three-dimensional separated flow about a prolate spheroid at a high-angle-of-attack was studied using the F3D thin-layer Navier-Stokes code. Several types of modified turbulence models were employed to evaluate the turbulent viscous stress and heat-flux quantities. The governing Navier-Stokes equations were then derived based on mass, momentum and energy conservation laws and integrated with the F3D numerical code. Variations were noted in the results obtained from the different turbulence models.
