Abstract Background Chylothorax is a postoperative complication in patients with lung cancer. Diet-control approaches have been the mainstay for managing this condition. However, a surgical intervention is needed for the patients if conservative treatment is ineffective. Because of the lack of accurate indicators to assess the prognosis of the postoperative complication at an early stage, the criteria of surgical treatment were not consistent. Methods We reviewed 2942 patients who underwent pulmonary resection and lymph node dissection for primary lung cancer at our hospital between March 2021 and December 2022. The prognostic implications of clinical indicators were assessed in patients with postoperative chylothorax who were managed with a low-fat diet. Binary logistic regression was used to explore the predictive value of these indicators for patient prognosis. Results Postoperative chylothorax occurred in 108 patients and 79 patients were treated with a low-fat diet management while 29 patients were managed with TPN. In contrast to drainage volume, the pleural effusion triglyceride level after 2 days of low-fat diet exhibited enhanced predictive efficacy in predicting patient prognosis. When the pleural fluid triglyceride level of 1.33 mmol/L was used as the diagnostic threshold for prognosis, the sensitivity and specificity reached 100% and 80.6%, respectively. Conclusions The pleural effusion triglyceride level after 2 days of low-fat diet can serve as a valuable prognostic indicator in patients undergoing lung surgery and experiencing chylothorax. This predictive approach will help thoracic surgeons to identify patients with poor prognosis in a timely manner and make decision to perform necessary surgical interventions.

Deoxynivalenol (DON) is one of the most common mycotoxins distributed in food and feed, which causes severe liver injury in humans and animals. Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) has received much attention in mycotoxin degradation due to the advantages of easy operation, high efficiency, and low temperature. So far, the majority of studies have focused on the degradation efficiency and mechanism of CAP on DON, while there is still little information available on the hepatotoxicity of DON after CAP treatment. Herein, this study aimed to investigate the effect of CAP on DON-induced hepatotoxicity both in vitro and in vivo and its underlying mechanisms. The results showed that 120-s CAP treatment achieved 97 % degradation of DON. The vitro hepatotoxicity of DON in L02 cells was significantly reduced with CAP treatment time. Meanwhile, CAP markedly alleviated DON-induced liver injury in mice including the balloon-like degeneration of liver tissues and elevation of AST and ALP level. The underlying mechanism for CAP detoxification of DON-induced hepatotoxicity was further elucidated. The results showed that DON caused severe oxidative stress in cells by suppressing the antioxidant signaling pathway of Nrf2/HO-1/NQO-1, consequently leading to mitochondrial dysfunction and cell apoptosis, accompanied by cellular senescence and inflammation. CAP blocked DON inhibition on the Nrf2/HO-1/NQO-1 signaling pathway through the efficient degradation of DON, accordingly alleviating the oxidative stress and liver injury induced by DON. Therefore, CAP is an effective method to eliminate DON hepatotoxicity, which can be applied in the detoxification of mycotoxin-contaminated food and feed to ensure human and animal health.

Abstract Background The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index is regarded as a dependable alternative for assessing insulin resistance (IR), given its simplicity, cost-effectiveness, and strong correlation with IR. The relationship between the TyG index and adverse outcomes in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) is not well established. This study examines the association of the TyG index with long-term adverse outcomes in hospitalized CHD patients. Methods In this single-center prospective cohort study, 3321 patients hospitalized with CHD were included. Multivariate Cox regression models were employed to assess the associations between the TyG index and the incidence of all-cause mortality and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs). To examine potential nonlinear associations, restricted cubic splines and threshold analysis were utilized. Results During a follow-up period of 9.4 years, 759 patients (22.9%) succumbed to mortality, while 1291 (38.9%) experienced MACEs. Threshold analysis demonstrated a significant “U”-shaped nonlinear relationship with MACEs, with different hazard ratios observed below and above a TyG index of 8.62 (below: HR 0.71, 95% CI 0.50–0.99; above: HR 1.28, 95% CI 1.10–1.48). Notably, an increased risk of all-cause mortality was observed only when the TyG index exceeded 8.77 (HR 1.53, 95% CI 1.19–1.96). Conclusions This study reveals a nonlinear association between the TyG index and both all-cause mortality and MACEs in hospitalized CHD patients with CHD. Assessing the TyG index, particularly focusing on individuals with extremely low or high TyG index values, may enhance risk stratification for adverse outcomes in this patient population.

Abstract This report introduces a young adult who has been in bed for more than ten years with end-stage hemophilic arthropathy. He didn’t have access to factor VIII (FVIII) in the early stage of hemophilia due to the high costs of clotting replacement therapy. As a result, he is experiencing some difficulties, such as joint contracture, muscular atrophy, severe pain, and poor function of cardiopulmonary. He came to visit us for a comprehensive rehabilitation program, and, finally, he achieved the basic goal of self-care in daily life.

The diffusion of trace elements in mining wastelands has attracted widespread attention in recent years. Vegetation restoration is an effective measure for controlling the surface migration of trace elements. However, there is no field evidence of the effective riparian zone width in mining wastelands. Three widths (5 m, 7.5 m, and 10 m) of Rhododendron simsii/Lolium perenne L. riparian zones were constructed in lead–zinc mining wastelands to investigate the loss of soil, cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), arsenic (As), lead (Pb), and zinc (Zn). Asbestos tiles were used to cut off connections between adjacent plots to avoid hydrological interference. Plastic pipes and containers were used to collect runoff water. Results showed that more than 90% of trace elements were lost in sediment during low coverage and heavy rainfall periods. Compared with the 5 m riparian zone, the total trace element loss was reduced by 69–85% during the whole observation period in the 10 m riparian zone and by 86–99% during heavy rain periods in the 10 m riparian zone, which was due to reduction in runoff and concentrations of sediment and trace elements in the 10 m riparian zone. Indirect negative effects of riparian zone width on trace element loss through runoff and sediment concentration were found. These results indicated that the wide riparian zone promoted water infiltration, filtered soil particles, and reduced soil erosion and trace element loss. Riparian zones can be used as environmental management measures after mining areas are closed to reduce the spread of environmental risks in mining wastelands, although the long-term effects remain to be determined.

Abstract The product functions (PFs) extracted by local mean decomposition (LMD) of the noisy signal contain obvious energy‐concentrated pulses. As a result, the conventional amplitude threshold filtering used in wavelet transform (WT)‐based and empirical mode decomposition (EMD)‐based de‐noising methods is no longer applicable. To address this issue, an improved signal de‐noising method is proposed by using the multi‐level local mean decomposition (ML‐LMD), the superposition and recombination (SR) of high‐order PFs, the outlier detection, and waveform smoothing (OD‐WS) to remove noise by eliminating the pulse components. The proposed method's superior noise reduction performance is demonstrated through theoretical analysis and experimental verification. Compared to well‐known methods like WT‐based and EMD‐based de‐noising, the results show that the proposed method has significant comparative advantages in reducing noise in rolling bearing signals.

This study determined the effects of seed structures on seed dormancy and tested methods to break dormancy in seeds of Urochloa hybrid cultivar ‘Mulato II’. Seeds stored for 10 months in indoor ambient conditions were studied to determine effects of seed structures on seed germination and their water permeability. Results showed that seed structures presented a barrier to water permeability. Removal of lemmas, puncturing the seed coat, seed structure removal and sulfuric acid immersion all reduced seed dormancy. Water and alcohol extracts from different parts of seeds inhibited seed germination of Brassica pekinensis seeds. There were 3 mechanisms responsible for seed dormancy; first, the mechanical barrier of seed structures, which excluded water and reduced gas exchange as well as restricting growth of the embryo; second, an endogenous germination inhibitor mainly found in lemmas; and third, water permeability of the seed coat (including pericarp and testa). The mechanical removal of lemmas and immersion in concentrated sulfuric acid reduced seed dormancy, although mechanical removal of the lemma alone was effective, convenient and safer.

[Purpose/significance] By calculating the operation efficiency of WeChat public account of academic journals of library, information and archives management, this study understands its development status and gives targeted suggestions. It is of certain guiding significance for the future development of the public account of academic journals of library, information and archives management. [Method/process] In this paper, 20 journal public accounts were selected as research samples, and the three-stage DEA method was used to determine the input-output index data, the operating efficiency value of each public account was estimated through the DEA-BCC model, and the impact of environmental factors were eliminated combined with SFA regression. [Result/conclusion] After excluding environmental factors and the influence of random noise, the average comprehensive efficiency of public accounts has increased compared with the first stage, but there are still 16 public accounts that did not achieve DEA effectiveness. Finally, combining with the principle of data envelope analysis, the public account improvement proposal is put forward from two perspectives of saving investment resources and ensuring the effectiveness of investment.

The thinning vegetation and soil erosion problems left behind by extractive mining have caused serious environmental pollution, and vegetation restoration is one of the effective strategies to counter them. To study the effects of vegetation restoration on plant community species diversity, soil carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus, and the response of their plant community succession, four communities of different ages (1, 7, 10, 40) and one natural forest (>50 years) in the Kunyang phosphate mine were selected, and the analysis was carried out using the methods and protocols for plant community inventory. The species composition was recorded, and soil was collected from 0–60 cm in each community to determine the response of soil nutrients and plant diversity to the restoration process. The results show that the species richness of the community increases with the restoration year, the species composition at 40 years of restoration is similar to that of the natural forest, and the Shannon–Wiener diversity index in the tree layer at 40 years of restoration is greater than in the natural forest. Soil pH showed a decreasing trend with restoration year, and TP and AP increased with increasing time series. And the linear stepwise regression analysis showed that soil pH, soil organic carbon (SOC), total phosphorous (TP), available phosphorous (AP), and restoration year were the main factors of plant diversity. Compared to restoration of 10 years, TP and AP at the restoration of 40 years increased to 11.9–20.0 g∙kg−1 and 33.4–75.5 mg∙kg−1. The SOC of the community reached a maximum at 40 years of restoration, 1.5, 2.8, and 2.4 times higher at 0–20 cm, 20–40, and 40–60 cm, respectively, than at 1 year. The organic carbon fraction increased with the restoration year in an ‘N’ pattern, and mineral-associated organic carbon (MOC) and unstable organic carbon fraction decreased at 10 years and 40 years of restoration. The SOC of natural forests decreased, but stable organic carbon increased. The soil pH, SOC, and organic carbon fraction of the communities decreased with increasing soil depth, while TP and AP increased with increasing soil depth at the later period of restoration. In general, with extended restoration years, 40 years plant of restoration in phosphate mines can be expected to allow for plant community succession to climax community, and the key influence on plant diversity are the phosphorus and stable carbon fractions. These results are expected to facilitate the future basis for vegetation succession and restore systems during mining area restoration.

Rolling bearings are critical in maintaining smooth operation of rotating machinery and considerably influence its reliability. The signals collected from rolling bearings in field conditions are often subjected to noise, creating a challenge to extract weaker fault features. This paper proposes a rolling bearing fault diagnosis method that addresses the above-mentioned problem through the moth-flame optimization algorithm optimized variational mode decomposition (MFO-optimized VMD) and an ensemble differential evolution online sequential extreme learning machine (DE-OSELM). By using the dynamic adaptive weight factor and genetic algorithm cross operator, the optimization accuracy and global optimization ability of the moth-flame optimization (MFO) are improved, and the two basic parameters of VMD decomposition level and quadratic penalty factor are adaptive selected. Since the vibration characteristics of the signal cannot be fully interpreted by a single index, The effective weighted correlation sparsity index (EWCS) is utilized to extract the relevant intrinsic mode functions (IMF) of VMD decomposition and extract their energies as features. In order to improve the classification accuracy, The energy feature set is subsequently inputted into DE-OSELM for training and classification purposes, and the proposed method is assessed via a sample set with four different health states of actual rolling bearings. Our proposed method results are compared with other diagnosis methods, proving its feasibility to diagnose rolling bearing faults with higher classification accuracy.

Sulfur plays a vital role in the phytoremediation of lead-contaminated soil. The effects of different sulfur forms (S Na2S, and Na2SO4) on lead (Pb) absorption in hyperaccumulator Arabis alpina L. var. parviflora Franch were studied in a soil pot experiment. The subcellular sulfur and lead enrichment characteristics in A. alpina were studied by adding sulfur in different forms and concentrations (0, 75, and 150 mg·kg−1) to Pb-contaminated soil. The results show that the root and shoot biomass increased by 1.94 times under Na2S and Na2SO4 treatment, and the root–shoot ratio of A. alpina increased 1.62 times under the three forms of sulfur treatments, compared with the control. Sulfur content in cell walls and soluble fractions of the root and shoot of A. alpina significantly increased 3.35~5.75 times and decreased 5.85 and 9.28 times in the organelles under 150 mg·kg−1 Na2SO4 treatment. Meanwhile, Pb content in the root and shoot cell walls of A. alpina significantly increased by 3.54 and 2.75 times, respectively. Pb content in the shoot soluble fraction increased by 3.46 times, while it significantly reduced by 3.78 times in the shoot organelle. Pb content in the root organelle and soluble fraction decreased by 2.72 and 2.46 times. Different forms and concentrations of sulfur had no regularity in the effect of Pb and sulfur content in the subcellular components of A. alpina, but the bioconcentration and translocation factors of A. alpina increased compared with the control. Under different concentrations of Na2SO4, there was a significant positive correlation between the contents of sulfur and Pb in the subcellular components of the root of A. alpina (p < 0.05). These results indicate that sulfur application can enhance the Pb resistance of A. alpina by strengthening the cell wall fixation and vacuolar compartmentalization.

The T700/HT280 composites were subjected to vacuum thermal cycling (-140-180℃,10-3 Pa). The mass loss rate, dynamic mechanical properties and low-speed impact of composites were tested before and after vacuum thermal cycling respectively. The visual observation, ultrasonic C-scan and finite element (FE) analysis were used to analyze, characterize and simulate the low-speed impact damage. The results show that the mass loss rates of T700/HT280 composites and matrix resin are increased rapidly and then level off with the increase of the number of vacuum thermal cycles, which is due to the gassing effect. After the vacuum thermal cycle treatment, T700/HT280 composites show some degree of post-cure, thermal aging and partial interface debonding. The main damage mode at low impact energy is that the matrix resin is compressed. However, matrix cracking and delamination are deemed as the damage mode at high impact energy. The FE simulation results are consistent with the experimental results. As the impact energy increases, the absorption energy of the composites is increased. Under the condition of 30-40 J impact energy, the absorption energy can effectively characterize the environmental damage effects of vacuum thermal cycle on composites.

The enhancement of chopped fiber as a reinforcing agent on the welding interface of composite materials was explored. Glass fiber reinforced polyetherimide (GF/PEI) laminate was joined using the pulse resistance welding technology, using a stainless steel (SS) mesh as the heating element. A single lap shear test was performed on the weldments of aramid fiber (AF), glass fiber (GF), and carbon fiber (CF) as reinforcing agents to evaluate the strength of the welded joint. The results show that the fiber achieves the welding interface strengthening by cooperating with the SS mesh heating element to contribute to the mechanical properties of the welded joint. Fracture analysis shows that under the reinforcement of fiber, the main failure mode in the initial stage of welding is fiber and matrix debonding. When the strength of the weldment achieves the best, the failure mode is changed into the simultaneous tearing of SS mesh heating element and fiber tear.

The material behavior of glass fiber reinforced aluminum laminates (GLARE) under low-speed impact of a falling hammer was studied, and a finite element model of ABAQUS for simulation and experimental verification was built. According to the characteristics of fiber metal matrix materials, the continuous damage mechanics (CDM) model was adopted, and the impact energy values of the falling hammer were set as 6.22 J, 12.38 J and 14.46 J respectively. The corresponding boundary conditions and loads of the model in ABAQUS were confirmed to obtain the velocity-time curve and energy loss curve of the falling direction of the falling hammer. The cohesive layer between metal layer and composite layer was taken into consideration, and the ‘Cohesive Layer’ in ABAQUS was adopted to bond metal layer and composite material layer. The tensile and compressive damage states of fibers and matrix in simulation were observed and compared with the experimental results. The results show that the finite element simulation can accurately simulate the crack and bulge effect on the back of GLARE laminates after the impact, as well as the damage situation of the matrix and fiber, so as to well predict the internal damage of the composite material.

Triangular grid reinforced by carbon fiber/epoxy (CF/EP) was designed and manufactured. The sandwich structure was prepared by gluing the core and composite skins. The mechanical properties of the sandwich structure were investigated by the finite element analysis (FEA) and three-point bending methods. The calculated bending stiffness and core shear stress were compared to the characteristics of a honeycomb sandwich structure. The results indicated that the triangular core ultimately failed under a bending load of 11000 N; the principal stress concentration was located at the loading region; and the cracks occurred on the interface top skin and triangular core. In addition, the ultimate stress bearing of the sandwich structure was 8828 N. The experimental results showed that the carbon fiber reinforced triangular grid was much stiffer and stronger than the honeycomb structure.

It is demonstrated that elevated serum levels of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and phosphate indicate a higher risks of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and total mortality in population with chronic kidney disease (CKD), but it remains unclear whether this association exists in people with normal or preserved renal function.Clinical trials were searched from Embase and PubMed from inception to 2013 December using the keywords "ALP", "phosphate", "CVD", "mortality" and so on, and finally 24 trials with a total of 147634 patients were included in this study. Dose-response and semi-parametric meta-analyses were performed.A linear association of serum levels of ALP and phosphate with risks of coronary heart disease (CHD) events, CVD events and deaths was identified. The relative risk (RR) of ALP for CVD deaths was 1.02 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.01-1.04). The RR of phosphate for CVD deaths and events was 1.05 (95% CI, 1.02-1.09) and 1.04 (95% CI: 1.03-1.06), respectively. A non-linear association of ALP and phosphate with total mortality was identified. Compared with the reference category of ALP and phosphate, the pooled RR of ALP for total mortality was 1.57 (95% CI, 1.27-1.95) for the high ALP group, while the RR of phosphate for total mortality was 1.33 (95% CI, 1.21-1.46) for the high phosphate group. It was observed in subgroup analysis that higher levels of serum ALP and phosphate seemed to indicate a higher mortality rate in diabetic patients and those having previous CVD. The higher total mortality rate was more obvious in the men and Asians with high ALP.A non-linear relationship exists between serum levels of ALP and phosphate and risk of total mortality. There appears to be a positive association of serum levels of ALP/phosphate with total mortality in people with normal or preserved renal function, while the relationship between ALP and CVD is still ambiguous.
