2. Metal-insulator phase separation in KTaO3-based two-dimensional electron gas

Abstract

Electronic phase separation (EPS) originates from an incomplete transformation between electronic phases, causing the inhomogeneous spatial distribution of electronic properties. In the system of two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG), the EPS is usually identified based on a percolative metal-to-superconductor transition. Here, we report a metal-insulator transition (MIT) in KTaO3-based 2DEG with the width of conductive channel decreasing into micrometer scale. Hysteretic resistance-temperature relations are observed due to the competition between metallic and insulating phases, which is tunable by magnetic field. Such a size-dependent MIT effect is attributed to the coexistence and separation of metallic and insulating phases. Combining density functional theory calculation, we propose a theoretical model to simulate the dynamic process of the EPS using the percolation theory, demonstrating the mechanism of size-dependent MIT. Our work suggests a clear and simple 2DEG platform to achieve the spatial coexistence of metallic and insulating phases.

Abstract

Ferroelectrics are essential in low-dimensional memory devices for multi-bit storage and high-density integration. A polar structure is a necessary premise for ferroelectricity, mainly existing in compounds. However, it is usually rare in elemental materials, causing a lack of spontaneous electric polarization. Here, we report an unexpected room-temperature ferroelectricity in few-chain Te nanowires. Out-of-plane ferroelectric loops and domain reversal are observed by piezoresponse force microscopy. Through density functional theory, we attribute the ferroelectricity to the ion-displacement created by the interlayer interaction between lone pair electrons. Ferroelectric polarization can induce a strong field effect on the transport along the Te chain, supporting a self-gated field-effect transistor. It enables a nonvolatile memory with high in-plane mobility, zero supply voltage, multilevel resistive states, and a high on/off ratio. Our work provides new opportunities for elemental ferroelectrics with polar structures and paves a way towards applications such as low-power dissipation electronics and computing-in-memory devices.

10. Detection of Debonding Defects in Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (CFRP)–Rubber Bonded Structures Based on Active Lamb Wave Energy Analysis.

Abstract

Carbon fiber-reinforced polymers (CFRPs) are widely used in the fabrication of solid rocket motor casings due to their exceptional performance. However, the bonding interface between CFRP and viscoelastic materials (rubber) is prone to debonding damage during service and storage under complex environmental conditions, which poses a significant threat to the structural integrity and reliability of the engine. Existing nondestructive testing (NDT) methods, such as X-ray imaging, infrared thermography, and ultrasonic testing, although somewhat effective, exhibit significant limitations in detecting interfacial defects in deep or multilayered composite materials, particularly under the challenging conditions of service and storage. This study proposes an innovative method based on active Lamb wave energy analysis and introduces the Damage Evolution Factor (DEF), specifically designed to detect and evaluate interfacial debonding defects in CFRP–rubber bonded structures within solid rocket motors during service and storage. Through numerical simulations and experimental validation, we selected the A0 mode Lamb wave, which is more sensitive to interfacial damage, as the incident wave and excited it on the surface of the structure. Displacement time-history response signals at observation points under different damage models were extracted and analyzed, and DEF values were calculated. The results show that DEF values increase with the size of the interfacial debonding damage. Similar trends were observed in experimental studies, further validating the effectiveness of this method and demonstrating that DEF can be used for the quantitative evaluation of interfacial debonding defects in CFRP–rubber bilayer bonded structures. Abstract

Hemorrhagic shock is the primary cause of death in patients with severe trauma, and the development of rapid and efficient hemostatic methods is of great significance in saving the lives of trauma patients. In this study, a polycaprolactone (PCL) nanofiber membrane was prepared by electrospinning. A PCL–PDA loading system was developed by modifying the surface of polydopamine (PDA), using inspiration from mussel adhesion protein, and the efficient and stable loading of thrombin (TB) was realized to ensure the bioactivity of TB. The new thrombin loading system overcomes the disadvantages of harsh storage conditions, poor strength, and ease of falling off, and it can use thrombin to start a rapid coagulation cascade reaction, which has the characteristics of fast hemostasis, good biocompatibility, high safety, and a wide range of hemostasis. The physicochemical properties and biocompatibility of the PCL–PDA–TB membrane were verified by scanning electron microscopy, the cell proliferation test, the cell adhesion test, and the extract cytotoxicity test. Red blood cell adhesion, platelet adhesion, dynamic coagulation time, and animal models all verified the coagulation effect of the PCL–PDA–TB membrane. Therefore, the PCL–PDA–TB membrane has great potential in wound hemostasis applications, and should be widely used in various traumatic hemostatic scenarios. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

ObjectiveTo investigate the value of serum carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9) and carbohydrate antigen 24-2 (CA24-2) in the diagnosis of benign and malignant biliary tract diseases. MethodsA total of 214 patients with biliary tract diseases who were hospitalized in Department of Gastroenterology and Department of General Surgery in the First Hospital Affiliated to Hebei North University from January 2012 to October 2015 were enrolled, and according to the nature of lesions, they were divided into benign lesion group (162 patients) and malignant lesion group (52 patients). The healthy people who underwent physical examination during the same period of time in the Physical Examination Center were enrolled as normal control group (40 persons). Peripheral venous blood was collected for all subjects in a fasting state, and the serum levels of total bilirubin (TBil), direct bilirubin (DBil), and indirect bilirubin (IBil) were measured. Radioimmunoassay was used to measure the serum levels of CA19-9 and CA24-2. The Kruskal-Wallis H test was used for comparison of continuous data between multiple groups, and the Wilcoxon rank sum test was used for further comparison between any two groups; the chi-square test was used for comparison of categorical data between groups; Pearson correlation analysis was also performed. ResultsCompared with the normal control group, the benign lesion group and the malignant lesion group showed significant increases in the serum levels of TBil and CA19-9 (all P＜0.01). Compared with the benign lesion group, the malignant lesion group showed significant increases in the serum levels of CA19-9 and CA24-2 (all P＜0.01). The serum levels of CA19-9 and CA24-2 were not associated with tumor location in cholangiocarcinoma, but they were associated with the degree of tumor differentiation(χ2=6860 and 9010, all P＜005). The combined measurement of CA19-9 and CA24-2 had a sensitivity of 88.5% and a specificity of 82.1% in the diagnosis of cholangiocarcinoma,which were significantly higher than the sensitivity and specificity of CA19-9 or CA24-2 measurement (all P＜0.01). In the patients with benign biliary tract diseases and cholangiocarcinoma, serum CA19-9 was positively correlated with serum TBil (r=0.634 and 0.346, both P＜0.05), and the benign lesion group had a significantly greater correlation between serum CA19-9 and serum TBil than the malignant lesion group. ConclusionCombined measurement of CA19-9 and CA24-2 has clinical significance in early diagnosis of cholangiocarcinoma.

Abstract

This study proposes a new type externally pressurized spherical gas bearing with slot–orifice double restricted restrictors, used in a new type gas gyroscope. Based on the spherical Reynolds equation and cylindrical Reynolds equation, small perturbation theory is employed to analyze the dynamic characteristics of the new type externally pressurized spherical gas bearing. The slot gas film and the spherical film are united by means of compatibility condition and a weak solution formula, based on Galerkin residual method, is erected. The nonlinear coupled weak solution equations are solved with FEM and the dynamic coefficients are obtained. Numerical simulation is operated and the change laws that the dynamic coefficients change with dimensionless perturbation frequency f, eccentricity ratio Eh and other structure parameters are analyzed. This paper provides a reference and preparation for analysis on the dynamic characteristics of the similar gas bearings.
