Abstract

We present the analytic solution for the stationary quantum HamiltonJacobi equation. Knowing the strong relation between the Riccati and quantum Hamilton-Jacobi equations, we develop a simple method to obtain the exact solution. Then, in order to prove the validity of the proposed method, we use two central potentials: the three-dimensional harmonic oscillator and Coulomb potential, both with bound-states. Finally, we compute the action-angle variables in a entirely quantum version for to achieve connect with the nodes of the wave function., Comment: 14 pages, 3 figures

Abstract

We give the calibration and scientific performance parameters of the Planck Low Frequency Instrument (LFI) measured during the ground cryogenic test campaign. These parameters characterise the instrument response and constitute our best pre-launch knowledge of the LFI scientific performance. The LFI shows excellent $1/f$ stability and rejection of instrumental systematic effects; measured noise performance shows that LFI is the most sensitive instrument of its kind. The set of measured calibration parameters will be updated during flight operations through the end of the mission., Comment: Accepted for publications in Astronomy and Astrophysics. Abstract

This paper provides an overview of the Low Frequency Instrument (LFI) programme within the ESA Planck mission. The LFI instrument has been developed to produce high precision maps of the microwave sky at frequencies in the range 27-77 GHz, below the peak of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) radiation spectrum. The scientific goals are described, ranging from fundamental cosmology to Galactic and extragalactic astrophysics. The instrument design and development are outlined, together with the model philosophy and testing strategy. The instrument is presented in the context of the Planck mission. The LFI approach to ground and inflight calibration is described. We also describe the LFI ground segment. We present the results of a number of tests demonstrating the capability of the LFI data processing centre (DPC) to properly reduce and analyse LFI flight data, from telemetry information to calibrated and cleaned time ordered data, sky maps at each frequency (in temperature and polarization), component emission maps (CMB and diffuse foregrounds), catalogs for various classes of sources (the Early Release Compact Source Catalogue and the Final Compact Source Catalogue). The organization of the LFI consortium is briefly presented as well as the role of the core team in data analysis and scientific exploitation. All tests carried out on the LFI flight model demonstrate the excellent performance of the instrument and its various subunits. The data analysis pipeline has been tested and its main steps verified. In the first three months after launch, the commissioning, calibration, performance, and verification phases will be completed, after which Planck will begin its operational life, in which LFI will have an integral part., Comment: 25 pages, 16 figures. Abstract

BACKGROUND: The use of molecular amplification as-says for TB diagnosis is limited by their costs and cartridge stocks. Pooling multiple samples to test them together is reported to have similar accuracy to individual testing and to save costs. METHODS: Two surveys of individuals with presumptive TB were conducted to assess the performance of pooled testing using Xpert® MTB/RIF (MTB/RIF) and Xpert® Ultra (Ultra). RESULTS: A total of 500 individuals were tested using MTB/RIF, with 72 (14.4%) being MTB-positive. The samples were tested in 125 pools, with 50 pools having 1 MTB-positive and 75 only MTB-negative samples: 46/50 (92%, 95% CI 80.8–97.8) MTB-positive pools tested MTB-positive and 71/75 (94.7%, 95% CI 86.9–98.5) MTB-negative pools tested MTB-negative in the pooled test (agreement: 93.6%, κ = 0.867). Five hundred additional samples were tested using Ultra, with 60 (12%) being MTB-positive. Samples were tested in 125 pools, with 42 having 1 MTB-positive and 83 only MTB-negative samples: 35/42 (83.6%, 95% CI 68.6–93.0) MTB-positive pools tested MTB-positive and 82/83 (98.8%, 95% CI 93.5–100.0) MTB-negative pools tested MTB-negative in the pooled test (agreement: 93.6%, κ = 0.851; P > 0.1 between individual and pooled testing). Pooled testing saved 35% (MTB/RIF) and 46% (Ultra) of cartridges. CONCLUSIONS: Pooled and individual testing has a high level of agreement and improves testing efficiency.

28. Clinical characteristics and outcome of drug-induced liver injury in the older patients: from the young-old to the oldest-old

Abstract

Older patients with hepatotoxicity have been scarcely studied in idiosyncratic drug-induced liver injury (DILI) cohorts. We sought the distinctive characteristics of DILI in older patients across age groups. A total of 882 DILI patients included in the Spanish DILI Registry (33% ≥ 65 years) were categorized according to age: “young” (< 65 years); “young-old” (65–74 years); “middle-old” (75–84 years); and “oldest-old” (≥ 85 years). All elderly groups had an increasingly higher comorbidity burden (P < 0.001) and polypharmacy (P < 0.001). There was a relationship between jaundice and hospitalization (P < 0.001), and both were more prevalent in the older age groups, especially in the oldest-old (88% and 69%, respectively), and the DILI episode was more severe (P = 0.029). The proportion of females decreased across age groups from the young to the middle-old, yet in the oldest-old there was a distinct female predominance. Pattern of liver injury shifted towards cholestatic with increasing age among top culprit drugs amoxicillin-clavulanate, atorvastatin, levofloxacin, ibuprofen, and ticlopidine. The best cutoff point for increased odds of cholestatic DILI was 65 years. Older patients had increased non–liver-related mortality (P = 0.030) as shown by the predictive capacity of the Model for End-Stage Liver Disease score (odds ratio (OR) = 1.116; P < 0.001), and comorbidity burden (OR = 4.188; P = 0.001) in the 6-month mortality. Older patients with DILI exhibited an increasingly predominant cholestatic phenotype across a range of culprit drugs, other than amoxicillin-clavulanate, with increased non–liver-related mortality and require a different approach to predict outcome. The oldest DILI patients exhibited a particular phenotype with more severe DILI episodes and need to be considered when stratifying older DILI populations.
