Objective: To examine and map occupational health promotion programmes implemented with teachers in higher education institutions. Method: Scoping Review, according to the JBI Institute Reviewer's Manual. The research used MESH: Faculty, Health Promotion, Occupational Health and Universities, made up by a combination of fifteen keywords performed in scientific MEDLINE, CINAHL, SCOPUS, PsycINFO and Web of Science databases. Additional records identified through other sources was performed in the RCAAP, Thesis CAPES and specialized journals databases, with no temporal limit. Results: 2498 studies were found, of which 57 were read in full and 28 were part of the final selection. Most studies have established causal relationships between variables. Data mapping showed a large number of studies aimed at assessing the health and well-being of the academic community, with the development of individual and collective skills. Empowerment and learning opportunities on health issues were mentioned in the interventions aimed at promoting physical and mental health and well-being. Conclusions: All programmes assumed that the promotion of literacy influenced well-being and quality of life. This work makes it possible to guide occupational health interventions for the creation of healthy environments and implementation of healthy public policies that support and reorient conditions favorable to the health of individuals and communities and provide the promotion of well-being and healthy lifestyles in universities. Objetivo: Examinar y mapear los programas de promoción de salud ocupacional implementados con los docentes de las instituciones de educación superior. Método: Revisión de alcance, según el JBI Institute Reviewer's Manual. REFLECTION (Philosophy) , *SCIENCE - Abstract
Background: Science classification is a very important working tool for the organization, evaluation and funding of research and development activities. Based on these ratings, it is possible to obtain data to support strategic decision-making on funding policies, considering criteria of productivity, equity in access, and relationship between investment and outcomes. Science classification systems have evolved over time following the individualization path itself of a particular branch of scientific knowledge and its ability to be recognized by the scientific and social community. Thus, science classification depends on both epistemological and cultural and political criteria. Objectives and Main topics under analysis: Reflection on the science classification in Portugal and suggestion of alternatives based on other experiences worldwide. Conclusion: Science classification is a system that reinforces itself, where more power and visibility generate more resources and greater visibility. For this reason, nursing must be recognized as a scientific area and fully develop its social mandate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: to analyze the contribution of Portuguese nursing to improving universal health access and coverage by means of the identification of nurses in the health system; evolution of health indicators; and access-promoting systems, in which nurses play a relevant role. Method: this was documentary research of publications fromnational and international organizations on planning and health outcomes. Statistical databases and legislation on health reforms were consulted. Results: nurses represent 30.18% of human resources in the national health service; the systems of access promotion performed by nurses have good levels of efficacy (95.5%) and user satisfaction (99% completely satisfied); in the local care the creation of Community Care Units (185) occurred, and 85.80% of home consultations were performed by nurses. Conclusion: political strategies, the National Health Service and strengthening of human resourcesin healthcareare the main determinants. Nursing is the most numerous professional group in the National Health Service, however numbers remaindeficient in primary health care. The improvement of academic qualification and self-regulation of this professional group has allowed for better answers inimproving health for the Portuguese. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Theoretical framework: Violence in acute psychiatric units is a major challenge for healthcare professionals due to its consequences. Objectives: To assess the effectiveness of an Animal-Assisted Intervention (dog) programme in preventing violence in acute psychiatric units. Methodology: Quasi-experimental study with an experimental group (26 patients) and an equivalent control group. The experimental group was subjected to a programme composed of 6 15-minute visits by a dog/handler team over the course of 3 weeks. Every session involved 2 patients. The psychiatric symptoms and the experience and expression of anger were assessed before and after the programme. The aggressive behaviours were assessed during the programme. Results: The programme proved to be effective in reducing the frequency and severity of aggressive behaviours and the use of psychotropic drugs. No evidence was found on the impact of this programme on psychiatric symptoms and anger experience and expression. Conclusion: These interventions may be a complementary strategy for preventing and controlling violence in acute psychiatric inpatients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Heart failure is a chronic disease which can cause emotional imbalance, with anxiety and depression as two of the most prevalent emotional manifestations of mental suffering. In this study, with the aim of analyzing the effect of a nursing intervention in reducing anxiety and depression, a nursing intervention plan was developed based on Ellis’s rational-emotive behavioral approach with 10 inpatients in a pre-transplant situation. These patients were identified through screening using a measurement scale and/or through referral by the multidisciplinary team, and through further validation by a structured interview. The plan was implemented according to the individual needs identified, and the following techniques were used: relaxation, therapeutic communication and helping relationship, cognitive restructuring skills and training on the connection between thought and emotion. Quantitative data analyses were conducted based on field notes, health team observations and patients’ narratives. Findings suggest a reduction in anxiety and depressive symptoms, an increase of hope and a calming effect resulting from acceptance of the illness. The narrative analysis allows us to understand the importance of the therapeutic alliance and the benefit attributed by patients. It demonstrates the usefulness of specialized intervention in mental health nursing in these critical situations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SLEEP quality , *RESEARCH , *CROSS-sectional method , *HABIT , *QUANTITATIVE research , *HOSPITAL nursing staff , *QUESTIONNAIRES , *STATISTICAL correlation - Abstract
Objective: to identify the possible associations between sleep quality, personal and work variables and the life habits of hospital nurses. Method: a cross-sectional, exploratory, correlational and quantitative study, carried out from October to December 2019. The data were collected with the application of a questionnaire that addressed the respondents' personal characteristics, life habits and working conditions. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Brazilian Portuguese version, was used to assess sleep quality. Results: the participants were 42 professionals: 31 (73.8%) women, aged between 26 and 66 years old (mean of 40.2); 61.9% worked overtime; 26.2% had two employment contracts and 40.5% had absences from work. Sleep quality was considered good by 9.5% of the participants, poor by 64.3% and categorized as with sleep disorders by 26.2%. In the population that worked rotating shifts, this quality was identified as poor by 26.2%. The worst results were found in the age group from 30 to 39 years old and there was a statistical significance in the "living with a partner" variable. Conclusion: there was impairment in the nurses' sleep quality and there is a need to monitor these workers, particularly those who work in shifts, in order to provide preventive measures to mitigate the harms to their health. - Abstract
Objective: To develop and evaluate the psychometric characteristics of the Psychiatric In-patients Comfort Scale (PICS) in hospitalized psychiatric patients., Method: The items of the PICS were drawn from a literature review, existing comfort instruments, suggestions made by experts, and interviews on perceived comfort with 18 hospitalized patients. A pilot study was performed with the first version of the scale, containing 98 items, in a sample of 49 patients. This process resulted in a 51-item version. Internal consistency, construct validity, and concurrent validity were measured in a second sample of 273 patients., Results: Data analysis, factor analysis, and reliability analysis resulted in a 38-item version. The factor analysis indicated a 3-factor structure: relief, ease, and transcendence, which explained 38.64% of the total variance. The comfort dimensions correlated positively with well-being and with positive experiences of suffering and negatively with the remaining dimensions of suffering, supporting concurrent validity. Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the total PICS-38 was 0.89, and the subscales ranged from 0.75 to 0.90., Conclusion: Based on psychometric properties, the PICS is a valid and reliable tool that can be used by nurses to assess comfort in hospitalized psychiatric patients. The items are conceptually grouped in 3 factors corresponding to the states of relief, ease, and transcendence of the comfort structure proposed by Kolcaba.
