Abstract

The article discusses the preparation and recovery of a private practice in Joplin, Missouri, in case of natural disasters. After an EF5 tornado hit the area and destroyed the clinic, the key factor that helped recover and set up the clinic in three days was the off-site backup electronic health record (EHR) and other protected health information (PHI). The article also offers disaster preparedness tips for future calamities and some important lessons learnt during the EF5 tornado.
