Understanding the interaction between national income GDP expenditure components is a key part of the study of the macroeconomics of any country. The general aim of this study is to explore this interaction between the GDP expenditure components in the time–frequency domain for the country of Japan, obtain some stylized facts and then compare them with those of the United States. The main result shows that the cyclical interactions between consumption and investment are typical of an "accelerator" effect and operate at several different frequencies, but that the several different cycles evident in the data phase out in the 1990s, once secular stagnation started to take hold. We hypothesize that Japan's investment drivers then changed to be dependent on the external sector by the 2000s. A secondary result is that Japanese fiscal policy appears to have been largely ineffective in terms of creating cyclical interactions with other GDP components. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

"Wartime North Africa: a documentary history 1934–1950" is a book edited by Aomar Boum and Sarah Abrevaya Stein that brings together a collection of testimonies and documents from North Africa during the rise of Fascism and Nazism, the impact of race laws and internment during World War II, and the challenges faced by survivors in the postwar period. The book includes a diverse range of voices, including Muslims, Jews, West African soldiers, and European refugees, and the sources are translated from multiple languages. The editors provide contextual introductions and footnotes to support the sources, allowing them to speak for themselves. In his work, Fanon generously cites Césaire's poetry. His citation from Césaire's tragedy Et les chiens se taisaient in Peau noir masques blancs, and later in Les Damnés de la terre, in support of his argument that anti-colonial violence was essential to a new, post-revolutionary beginning, is of particular interest. I want to make the case that Une tempête presents us with a complexity of temporal and intertextual folds that pursues the question of freedom and what comes after. Fanon came after Césaire but Une tempête comes after Fanon. Césaire's text, I argue, alludes to Fanon's work in different ways and in doing so appears to assert the case for non-violence, refuses the figure a decolonial tableau rasa and returns us to the predicament of colonial racism that both he and Fanon sought to overcome. In all of this, is the figure of the hyphen—a ligature binding Prospero to his imagined self, that is constituted through Caliban, but also loosely binding Césaire to Fanon. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Named Data Networking (NDN) is one of five projects funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation under its Future Internet Architecture Program. NDN has its roots in an earlier project, Content-Centric Networking (CCN), which Van Jacobson first publicly presented in 2006.1 The NDN project investigates Jacobson's proposed evolution from today's host-centric network architecture (IP) to a data-centric network architecture (NDN). This conceptually simple shift has far-reaching implications for how we design, develop, deploy, and use networks and applications. We describe the motivation and vision of this new architecture, and its basic components and operations. We also provide a snapshot of its current design, development status, and research challenges.
