Introduction: Limited data on 24-hour movement behaviors of children aged 5–8 years exist globally. We describe the prevalence and sociodemographic associations of meeting physical activity (PA), sedentary recreational screen time (ST), and sleep guidelines among children from 11 jurisdictions in the US-Affiliated Pacific region. Methods: Cross-sectional representative data from 1192 children aged 5–8 years living in the US-Affiliated Pacific region were drawn from the baseline 2012–2014 Children's Healthy Living Program. Sleep and moderate- to vigorous-intensity PA were calculated from accelerometry. ST and sociodemographic data were collected from caregiver surveys. The percentage of children meeting the Asia-Pacific 24-hour movement guidelines for PA (≥60 min/d of moderate- to vigorous-intensity PA), sleep (≥9 and ≤ 11 h/d) and ST (≤2 h/d) were calculated. Generalized linear mixed models were used to examine associations with adiposity and sociodemographic variables. Results: Twenty-seven percent (95% confidence interval, 24.6–30.0) of children met integrated guidelines; 98% (96.2–98.0) met PA, 78% (75.4–80.0) met sleep, and 35% (32.6–38.0) met ST guidelines. Females (adjusted odds ratio = 1.40 [95% confidence interval, 1.03–1.91]) and those living in lower-middle-income jurisdictions (2.29 [1.49–3.54]) were more likely to meet ST guidelines. Overweight children (0.62 [0.40–0.96]), those aged 8 years (0.39 [0.22–0.69]), and children with caregivers of an education level of high school or beyond (0.44 [0.29–0.68]) were less likely to achieve ST guidelines. Children from midrange annual household incomes were less likely to meet combined guidelines (0.60 [0.39–0.92]). Conclusions: Three-quarters of children are not meeting integrated Asia-Pacific 24-hour movement guidelines. Objective: This study aimed to assess the changes in the frequency of physical activity (PA) counseling and in the predictors of primary care PA promotion in Québec primary care physicians (PCPs) between 2010 and 2020. Methods: In 2010, we conducted a survey among Québec PCPs. Questions included: frequency of promoting PA to patients, perceived barriers, needs to improve PA promotion practice, frequency of PCPs' PA practice, and sociodemographic information. In 2020, we took over the 2010 questionnaire to document the evolution of the PA promotion practice. Results: The proportion of PCPs discussing PA with their patients significantly increased (P <.05) in 2020 for the following health conditions: depression, low back pain, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and cancer; it declined (P <.05) for overweight patients, those with metabolic syndrome, and in primary prevention. Collaboration with PA professionals was the major need identified, and it increased in 2020. PCPs' own practice of PA was a predictor of PA promotion in 2010 (odds ratio = 6.679; P <.001) and in 2020 (odds ratio = 6.679; P <.001). In both 2010 and in 2020, older or more experienced PCPs were more likely to discuss PA with their patients without diagnosed diseases than younger ones or those with less experience. Conclusions: Over the last 10 years, there has been a significant increase in PCPs promoting PA in Québec; however, it has been mainly oriented toward secondary prevention. It is concerning that PA counseling in primary prevention has declined, notably among younger PCPs. The stronger claim for closer collaboration with kinesiologists suggests that PCPs are in favor of an interprofessional strategy, namely collaboration with PA specialists. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: To evaluate peri-implant tissue health and bone resorption in patients with implant-supported fixed partial rehabilitations. In particular, possible correlations between plaque accumulation and bone loss, as well as other periimplant health parameters, were investigated. Materials and Methods: A total of 44 patients rehabilitated with fixed implant-supported partial rehabilitations were included. The following parameters were recorded: spontaneous bleeding (SB), suppuration, bleeding on probing (BOP), plaque index (PI), and probing depth (PD). Periapical radiographs were taken to measure crestal bone loss (BL). A nonparametric test (Spearman rank coefficient; rs) was used to identify possible correlations between the clinical parameters recorded. Results: A total of 121 implants were analyzed. Global PI and BOP were 49.58% and 20.25%, respectively. There were no cases of suppuration, and only 2 implants showed spontaneous bleeding. Mean BL was 1.53 mm (SD: 0.98). No implants showed peri-implantitis. There was a weak, statistically significant correlation between PI and BL (rs = 0.27, P [2-tailed] = .99) and between PI and the other peri-implant parameters (BOP: rs = 0.14, P = .14; PD: rs = 0.04, P = .65; SB: rs = --0.08, P = .34). A very weak correlation was also found between BL and BOP (rs = 0.1, P = .2) and between BL and PD (rs = 0.02, P = .7). Correlation was found between BL and age (rs = 0.13, P = .81) and between the other peri-implant parameters and age using dichotomization (> or < 65 years; PI: rs = --0.14, P = .11; PD: rs = --0.21, P = .01; BOP: rs = --0.21, P = .01; SB: rs = 0.05, P = .53). No statistically significant correlations were found between the clinical parameters evaluated and the sex or the dental arch treated (maxilla vs mandible). In contrast, the correlation between periodontal parameters and years elapsed since surgery (follow-up) was significant. Conclusions: The present research suggests that in implant-supported fixed partial rehabilitations, dental implants with greater plaque accumulation are more likely to present augmented probing depth, peri-implant inflammation, and bone loss, although the correlation is statistically very weak. Depression is linked to obesity. The body roundness index (BRI) provides a more accurate assessment of body and visceral fat levels than the body mass index or waist circumference. However, the association between BRI and depression is unclear. Therefore, we investigated this relationship using the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database. In this population-based cross-sectional study, data from 18,654 adults aged ≥20 years from the NHANES 2011–2018 were analyzed. Covariates, including age, gender, race/ethnicity, education level, marital status, poverty-income ratio, alcohol status, smoking status, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, energy intake, physical activity, total cholesterol, and triglycerides were adjusted in multivariable logistic regression models. In addition, smooth curve fitting, subgroup analysis, and interaction testing were conducted. After adjusting for covariates, BRI was positively correlated with depression. For each one-unit increase in BRI, the prevalence of depression increased by 8 % (odds ratio = 1.08, 95 % confidence interval = 1.05–1.10, P < 0.001). As this was a cross-sectional study, we could not determine a causal relationship between BRI and depression. Patients with depression in this study were not clinically diagnosed with major depressive disorder. BRI levels were positively related to an increased prevalence of depression in American adults. Backgroud: The relationship between serum uric acid (SUA) and 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) has been variably characterized in existing literature, with inconsistent results regarding its nature and implications in the Chinese population. This study aims to clarify this association, considering the potential impact of vitamin D levels on SUA. Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 7,086 individuals from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, screened throughout 2020. We collected data on 25(OH)D, SUA, and other metabolic markers. Logistic regression models adjusted for confounding factors were utilized to analyze the relationships. Results: Our findings illustrate a statistically significant inverted U-shaped relationship between 25(OH)D and SUA. The identified threshold effect at 28.82 ng/ml is pivotal; with 25(OH)D levels below this point associated with an increased risk of hyperuricemia (odds ratio: 1.0146, p = 0.0148), and levels above it offering protective benefits (odds ratio: 0.9616, p = 0.0164). Conclusions: Our findings confirm a nonlinear, inverted U-shaped correlation between 25(OH)D and SUA, emphasizing the importance of maintaining vitamin D levels within a specific range to effectively manage hyperuricemia. These results support the implementation of personalized vitamin D supplementation strategies to optimize metabolic health outcomes, highlighting the complex interplay between vitamin D status and uric acid levels. The Visceral Adiposity Index (VAI) assesses visceral fat and related metabolic risks. However, its precise correlation with sarcopenia is unclear. This study aimed to examine this correlation. A cross-sectional analysis was conducted using NHANES data from 2011 to 2018. To correct VAI skewness, a logarithmic transformation was applied. Multiple covariates were included, and logistic regression was employed to explore the relationship between VAI and sarcopenia. Restricted cubic spline (RCS) and threshold saturation analyses were used to investigate the nonlinear relationship. Subgroup analyses evaluated the effects of various stratification factors. Sensitivity and additive analyses tested the robustness of the findings. The study included 4688 individuals. Participants with sarcopenia had significantly higher VAI values. Logistic regression revealed a significant positive connection between Log VAI and sarcopenia (OR 2.09, 95% CI 1.80–2.43) after adjusting for variables. RCS analysis showed a nonlinear correlation, identifying a breakpoint at VAI = 1.51. To the left of this breakpoint, each unit increase in VAI significantly correlated with a higher likelihood of sarcopenia (OR 2.54, 95% CI 1.74–3.79); to the right, increases in VAI did not significantly affect prevalence. Subgroup analyses suggested VAI as an independent risk factor. Sensitivity and additive analyses confirmed the main findings' robustness. Among American adults, the VAI is significantly associated with sarcopenia, with higher VAI values potentially increasing the prevalence of sarcopenia. Background: In developing nations, myocardial infarction (MI) remains a significant contributor to deaths from sudden cardiac arrest, with diet playing a key role in its incidence through oxidative stress mechanisms. Although the connection between the Dietary Antioxidant Index (DAI) and cardiovascular diseases has been demonstrated in some studies, the relationship between DAI and MI has not been extensively explored. Therefore, this research aims to investigate this association. Methods: We conducted a nested case-control study involving 156 MI cases and 312 healthy controls, utilizing data from the Fasa Adults Cohort Study (FACS), a population-based study of individuals aged 35–70 residing in Fasa, Iran, with 11,097 participants included at baseline. The DAI was determined by normalizing the intake values of six dietary vitamins and minerals, adjusting by subtracting the global mean, and then dividing by the global standard deviation. MI diagnosis was established by an experienced cardiologist using electronic medical records. Conditional logistic regression was employed to examine the association between DAI and MI. Results: There were no significant differences between the case and control groups in terms of age (P = 0.96), gender distribution (P = 0.98), and education level (P = 0.38). In a multiple conditional logistic regression analysis, after adjusting for key variables—including body mass index (BMI), smoking status, education level, and serum levels of triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), total cholesterol (TC), fasting blood sugar (FBS), saturated fatty acids (SFA), and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA)—an inverse association was found between DAI and the risk of myocardial infarction (MI) [adjusted Odds Ratio (Adj OR) = 0.88, 95% Confidence Interval (CI): 0.85–0.92; P < 0.001]. Conclusions: This study highlights the crucial role of the DAI in reducing the risk of myocardial infarction. Promoting diets rich in antioxidants presents a straightforward and effective strategy for MI prevention and the promotion of cardiovascular health, underscoring the novelty and significance of this research in dietary approaches to disease prevention. Background: Neonatal hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) leads to different degrees of neurological sequelae. The incidence of HIE is relatively high, and the causal pathways leading to HIE are still controversial. This study aimed to investigate the risk factors associated with HIE comparing differences between genders. Methods: A cross-sectional study of 196 neonates diagnosed with HIE was conducted. Based on the severity of clinical findings, HIE was classified as mild, moderate or severe. For mild HIE, the outcomes were relatively less severe, whereas moderate to severe HIE could suffer serious consequences, including death, cerebral palsy, epilepsy. T-test, chi-square test and logistic regression were used to analyze data. Results: Among the 196 neonatal HIE, 39 (19.9%) had mild HIE,157 (80.1%) had moderate or severe HIE. The logistic regression analysis showed that gender was a specific stratified characteristic of moderate or severe HIE. In the male neonates group, emergency cesarean section, abnormal labor stage and amniotic fluid contamination were associated with an increased risk of moderate or severe HIE, where the adjusted odds ratios (ORs) were 4.378 (95% confidence intervals (CI):2.263–6.382), 2.827 (95% CI:1.743–5.196) and 2.653 (95%CI:1.645–3.972), respectively. As expected, a significant additive effect was found in the interactions between emergency cesarean section and abnormal labor stage, as well as between emergency cesarean section and amniotic fluid contamination, where the relative excess risk of interaction was 2.315(95%CI:1.573–3.652) and 1.896(95%CI: 1.337–3.861) respectively. Conclusion: Emergency cesarean section, abnormal labor stage and amniotic fluid contamination were risk factors of moderate or severe HIE in neonates, and the associations were significantly correlated with male gender. Notably, coinciding incidences of emergency cesarean section with abnormal labor stage, or emergency cesarean section with amniotic fluid contamination were possibly synergistic in increasing the risk of moderate or severe HIE. Background: Atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) index is an important marker of insulin resistance and a significant risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Abdominal aortic calcification (AAC) is significantly associated with subclinical atherosclerotic disease. However, there are no studies that have examined the relationship between AIP index and AAC, so we investigated the potential association between them in the general population. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES, 2013–2014). The association of AIP with AAC was estimated by multivariable regression analysis. Results: After adjusting for confounders, the odds of extensive AAC doubled per unit increase in the AIP index (OR = 2.00, 95% CI: 1.05, 3.83; P = 0.035). The multivariable OR and 95% CI of the highest AIP index tertile compared with the lowest tertile was significantly different. (OR = 1.73, 95% CI: 1.05, 2.83; P = 0.031). The subgroup analyses indicated that the association was consistent irrespective of age, sex, hypertension, diabetes, smoking status, eGFR and hypercholesteremia. Background: The neutrophil-to-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (NHR) has emerged as a promising biomarker for assessing inflammation and lipid dysregulation. Increasing evidence indicates that these metabolic disturbances play a crucial role in the development of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease(MASLD). This study aims to investigate the association between NHR, MASLD, and liver fibrosis. Methods: This cross-sectional study analyzed data from the 2017–2020 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Weighted multivariate logistic regression models were used to investigate the association between NHR and both MASLD and liver fibrosis. Smoothed curve fitting and threshold effect analysis were performed to detect potential nonlinear relationships. Subgroup analyses were conducted to assess the consistency of these associations across different groups. Results: The study involved 4,761 participants. We observed a significant positive association between NHR and MASLD (OR = 1.20, 95% CI: 1.09–1.31). However, there was no significant association between NHR and liver fibrosis (OR = 1.01; 95% CI: 0.94–1.09). The analysis of smoothed curve fitting and threshold effect revealed an inverted U-shaped relationship between NHR and MASLD, with a turning point at 5.63. Conclusion: Our findings indicate a positive correlation between elevated NHR levels and MASLD prevalence. However, we did not observe a significant association between NHR and liver fibrosis prevalence. Further prospective research is needed to validate these findings in a longitudinal setting. Objected: To evaluate the association between osteoarthritis (OA) and Parkinson's disease (PD) in adults in the United States. Methods: Using 2011-2020 NHANES data, a cross-sectional study of 11,117 adults over the age of 40 was conducted. Univariate logistic regression and multivariate logistic regression were used to analyze the relationship between arthritis and PD. In addition, stratified analysis was used to examine whether the relationship between arthritis and PD was interactive with age, gender, race, education, BMI. Results: In this study, a total of 11,117 participants were included, and we found that osteoarthritis was positively correlated with the development of PD compared with non-arthritis patients [1.95 (1.44 ~ 2.62)] (p < 0.001). After adjusting the covariates, the results are still stable. Conclusion: PD patients were positively correlated with OA. Among people with OA, there was a 95% increased risk of PD compared to people without arthritis. Therefore, when treating OA, attention should be paid to the increased risk of PD. Background: The systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) is a novel inflammatory marker used to assess the immune-inflammatory status of the human body. The systemic immune inflammation has an interplay and mutual relationship with neurological disorders. Serum neurofilament light chain (sNfL) is widely regarded as a potential biomarker for various neurological diseases. The study aimed to examine the association between SII and sNfL. Methods: This cross-sectional investigation was conducted in a population with complete data on SII and sNfL from the 2013-2014 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). The SII was calculated by dividing the product of platelet count and neutrophil count by the lymphocyte count. Multivariate linear regression models and smooth curves were used to explore the linear connection between SII and sNfL. Sensitivity analyses, interaction tests, and diabetes subgroup smoothing curve fitting were also performed. Results: A total of 2,025 participants were included in our present research. SII showed a significant positive association with the natural logarithm-transformed sNfL (ln-sNfL) in crude model [0.17 (0.07, 0.28)], partially adjusted model [0.13 (0.03, 0.22)], and fully adjusted model [0.12 (0.02, 0.22)]. In all participants, the positive association between SII and ln-sNfL served as a linear relationship, as indicated by a smooth curve. Interaction tests showed that age, gender, BMI, hypertension, and diabetes did not have a significant impact on this positive association (p for interaction >0.05). The subgroup analysis of diabetes was conducted using smooth curve fitting. It was found that compared to the group without diabetes and the group in a pre-diabetic state, the effect was more pronounced in the group with diabetes. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that there is a positive association between SII and sNfL. Furthermore, in comparison to individuals without diabetes and those in a pre-diabetic state, the positive association between SII and sNfL was more pronounced in individuals with diabetes. Background: Depression poses a significant challenge globally, including in safety-critical industries such as aviation. In Saudi Arabia, where the aviation sector is rapidly expanding, pilots encounter unique stressors inherent to their profession. However, research on pilot mental health, particularly within the Saudi context, remains limited despite its critical role in flight safety. Methods: This cross-sectional survey was designed to estimate the self-reported prevalence of depression in a convenience sample of airline pilots in Saudi Arabia. Participants were recruited from various commercial airlines in Saudi Arabia. Recruitment efforts utilized targeted outreach on social media platforms, focusing on pilot forums and groups. The survey was administered online for accessibility and convenience. The structured questionnaire, developed through a literature review and expert consultation, comprises sections on demographic and professional characteristics, occupational information, health habits, and depression assessment via the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9). Results: This study enrolled 310 participants, with the largest cohort (34.8%, n = 108) falling within the 30–39 years age group, closely followed by individuals under 30 years (30.0%, n = 93). Males dominated the sex distribution (99.0%, n = 307). The mean PHQ-9 score was 8.2 ± 5.4. Notably, 40.6% (n = 126) of the participants had a score of 10 or higher, indicating the potential for moderate, moderate-severe, or severe depression. Multivariable binary logistic regression analysis revealed that pilots with 11–15 years of experience had greater odds of experiencing depression than did those with 0–10 years of experience did (odds ratio [OR]: 3.0, 95% confidence interval [CI]: [1.1–8.4], p = 0.04). Pilots with rest times exceeding 24 h had lower odds of depression than did those with rest times less than 1 h (OR: 0.3, 95% CI: [0.1–0.8], p = 0.02). Engaging in regular exercise was associated with reduced odds of depression (OR: 0.3, 95% CI: [0.2–0.5], p < 0.01), as was longer sleep duration (> 8 h) (OR: 0.2, 95% CI: [0.1–1.0], p = 0.04). Conclusion: Our study estimates the prevalence and severity of self-reported depressive symptoms among airline pilots in Saudi Arabia, surpassing global estimates. The identified factors, including lack of regular exercise, short sleep duration, and insufficient rest between flights, underscore the complex mental health challenges faced by pilots in this region. Background and objective: The value of the non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (NHHR) assessment in the context of metabolic abnormalities is growing in importance. Nevertheless, the relationship between NHHR and hyperuricemia (HUA) is unknown. This study seeks to investigate the relationship between NHHR and HUA. Methods: The data derived from the 2017–2020 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) included 7,876 adult participants. The multivariable logistic regression model, subgroup analysis and smooth fitting curve were utilized in order to investigate the association between NHHR and HUA. Results: In the fully adjusted model 3, NHHR was significantly associated with HUA. Specifically, participants in the highest quartile of NHHR had 1.95 times higher odds of HUA prevalence compared to those in the lowest quartile [2.95 (2.39, 3.64), P < 0.0001]. Although the overall trend suggested a positive association, further analysis using smooth fitting curves and threshold effect analysis indicated that this association was nonlinear, with an inflection point at 5.8. The positive association persisted across different HUA definitions and after removing outliers. Subgroup analysis showed significant interactions between NHHR and HUA in different races and diabetes statuses. The odds of HUA prevalence were higher among non-diabetic participants [1.40 (1.32, 1.49), P < 0.0001] compared to diabetic participants [1.18 (1.06, 1.32), P = 0.0031]. Mexican Americans had the lowest odds of HUA prevalence [1.09 (0.92, 1.27), P = 0.2413] compared to other races. Conclusions: There is a significant positive association between NHHR and HUA, indicating that NHHR may serve as a potential risk assessment maker for HUA, although further prospective studies are needed for validation. Non-condom use is known as one of the risky sexual behaviors among youth and a contributing factor to the high prevalence of HIV in Nigeria. Therefore this study aimed to assess the spatial pattern and determinants of non-condom use among sexually active young people in Nigeria. The study employed a cross-sectional analysis of population-based data involving 288 males and 780 females aged 15–24 years, giving 1068 sexually active young people drawn from the 2018 NDHS. The study adopted a multi-level and spatial analysis to identify factors associated with non-condom use in Nigeria. The prevalence of non-condom use was 57.7% in this study. The spatial analysis showed that the Northeastern and South–South regions of Nigeria had a high proportion of non-condom use among young people, while the Northwest, North-Central, and Southwestern parts had low proportions of non-condom use. On multilevel analysis, the individual and community level factors associated with non-condom use included exposure to media (AOR 0.59; 95% CI 0.39–0.91) and younger age (AOR 0.72; 95% CI 0.53–0.98). Areas with a high proportion of non-condom use should receive the most attention through the promotion of condom use and education, alongside a focus on important associated factors. Data from 370 families of critically ill patients were used to evaluate the structural, convergent and discriminant validity as well as the reliability of the new instrument.Confirmatory factor analysis indicated good model fit, supporting the proposed structure. All items displayed high standardised factor loadings except one, which improved upon freeing an error covariance. Positive inter‐factor correlations were moderate to strong and were substantially lower than the square root of the average variance extracted, supporting both convergent and discriminant validity, respectively. Additionally, all subscales demonstrated well to excellent reliability.The findings provide preliminary support for the multiple types of validity evidence and the reliability of the instrument. Background: Women's Dietary Diversity Score (WDDS) is an indicator of dietary diversity, a key component of diet quality in women of reproductive age (WRA). Limited information is available regarding its applicability in other population groups. Objective: To examine the ability of the Minimum Dietary Diversity for Women (MDD-W) of 5-food groups cutoff to predict micronutrient adequacy in men and women 15 to 65 years old from 8 Latin American countries. Methods: We used a 24-hour recall from 9216 participants in the Latin American Study on Nutrition and Health (ELANS) to determine Dietary Diversity Score (DDS) based on the consumption of 10 food groups. The Mean Probability of Adequacy (MPA) was associated with DDS for the overall sample, for men, WRA, and women of nonreproductive age (WNRA). Sensitivity and specificity analyses were performed to determine if the 5-food groups cutoff point for MDD can be used to correctly identify men, WRA, and WNRA with adequate micronutrient adequacy (MPA ≥ 0.70). Background: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and inflammatory periodontal disease (IPD) are both prevalent chronic conditions with growing recognition of potential interplay. Understanding their association is crucial for comprehensive disease management. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 300 participants, including 150 with NAFLD and 150 controls without NAFLD. Diagnosis of NAFLD was confirmed by liver ultrasound, while IPD was assessed through clinical periodontal examination. Demographic data, medical history, and lifestyle factors were recorded. Statistical analyses, including chi-square tests and logistic regression, were performed to determine the association between NAFLD and IPD. Results: Among participants with NAFLD, 65% were found to have IPD compared to 35% in the control group. Logistic regression analysis revealed a significant association between NAFLD and IPD (OR = 2.5, 95% CI: 1.7–3.8, p < 0.001). Background: The evaluation of histopathological outcomes post-elective surgical procedures is crucial in understanding the prevalence of various pathologies and the efficacy of surgical interventions. Objective: To assess and analyze the histopathological outcomes of elective surgical procedures performed in a tertiary care hospital. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 200 patients who underwent elective surgical procedures. Histopathological examinations of surgical specimens were performed, and data were analyzed using statistical methods to determine the prevalence and types of histopathological findings. Introduction: lumbar foraminal stenosis refers to the constriction of the lateral canal through which the nerve root exits the spinal canal in the lumbar spine. It occurs in 8-11% of patients aged over 40 years. Failure to detect and alleviate foraminal constriction can contribute to up to 60% of instances of unsuccessful lumbar surgery. This study aimed to develop an index to assess the extent of foraminal narrowing, thereby aiding decisions regarding direct or indirect foraminal decompression. Material and methods: a cross-sectional study was conducted, involving 49 patients, wherein measurements of all five lumbar foramina were taken using X-rays and simple magnetic resonance imaging. These measurements primarily focused on the foraminal width and the lower endplate, which were then correlated to establish a foraminal width/lower endplate index. Results: the foraminal width/lower endplate index < 10% yielded an odds ratio (OR) of 3.07 on lateral radiography, 3.59 on flexion radiography, and 4.01 on extension radiography. In MRI, an OR of 0.195 was found for the left foramina, while an OR of 3.07 was observed for the right foramina. Conclusion: this study paves the way for further exploration of preoperative and postoperative clinical outcomes across various surgical decompression methods guided by the FW/LE index. Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine the associations between body composition and temporal eating patterns, including time of first eating occasion, time of last eating occasion, eating window, and eating jet lag (the variability in meal timing between weekdays and weekends). Methods: A total of 131 participants were included in the study. Temporal eating pattern information was collected through consecutive 7-day eat timing questionnaires and photographic food records. Body composition was assessed by bioelectrical impedance analysis. Multiple linear regression models were used to evaluate the relationships of temporal eating patterns with body composition, and age was adjusted. Eating midpoint was additionally adjusted in the analysis of eating window. Results: On weekdays, both later first eating occasion and last eating occasion were associated with lower lean mass, and longer eating window was associated with lower body fat percentage. On weekends, both later first eating occasion and last eating occasion were associated with lower lean mass, and longer eating window was associated with higher FFMI. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the associations between dietary diversity and risk of dyslipidemia in Japanese workers. Methods: The cross-sectional study included 1399 participants aged 20–63 years and the longitudinal study included 751 participants aged 20–60 years in 2012–2013 (baseline) who participated at least once from 2013 to 2017 with cumulative participation times of 4.9 times. Dietary intake was assessed using a food frequency questionnaire, and dietary diversity score (DDS) was determined using the Quantitative Index for Dietary Diversity. Dyslipidemia was diagnosed when at least one of the following conditions was met: hypertriglyceridemia, high LDL-cholesterol, low HDL-cholesterol, high non-HDL-cholesterol, and a history of dyslipidemia. Multivariable logistic regression was used to calculate the odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for dyslipidemia with control of confounding factors in cross-sectional analysis. Generalized estimating equations were used for calculating the ORs (95% CI) for dyslipidemia in the follow-up period according to the DDS at baseline with control of confounding factors in longitudinal analysis. Results: Cross-sectional analysis showed that the highest DDS reduced the odds of dyslipidemia in men (OR [95% CI] in Tertile 3: 0.67 [0.48–0.95], p value = 0.023). In longitudinal analysis, a moderate DDS reduced the risk of dyslipidemia (OR [95% CI] in Tertile 2: 0.21 [0.07–0.60], p value = 0.003) in women. Conclusions: The results of cross-sectional analysis in this study suggest that the higher diversity of diet might reduce the presence of dyslipidemia in men and the results of longitudinal analysis suggest that a moderate DDS might reduce the risk of dyslipidemia in women. Objectives: To investigate community health centers' (CHCs) health literacy. Design: A cross‐sectional study. Sample: A total of 374 CHCs were surveyed and 258 CHCs responded, with an effective questionnaire response rate of 69.0%. Measurements: Data were collected by using a self‐developed health literacy assessment tool to survey CHCs' health literacy throughout Taiwan from January to December 2019. Results: The item of organizational health literacy (OHL) with the highest proportion of CHCs not implementing them was "Design of easy‐to‐use computer applications and new media" (47.3% not yet achieved), followed by "Involving target audiences in document and service development" (34.9% not yet achieved). CHCs located in northern Taiwan had higher health literacy achievement scores than those in other regions, and those in urban areas had higher health literacy achievement scores than those in general and remote areas. Conclusions: This study identified items with poor implementation of OHL and found regional differences in health literacy among CHCs. Labor is a complex, subjective experience, and all factors that influence pain should be considered to ensure a comprehensive evaluation. This study aimed to determine whether gender roles were predictive of labor pain. The study has a descriptive and cross-sectional design. It was carried out in a delivery room of a city hospital in Turkey between September 2019 and September 2020. The study sample consisted of 231 primiparous women presenting for labor and delivery. Data were gathered with a descriptive characteristics form, Visual Analogue Scale and The Bem Sex-Role Inventory. Descriptive statistics and simple regression analysis were employed to analyze the obtained data. Regression analysis demonstrated that gender roles were predictive of labor pain in the latent, active, and transitional stages, but not in the second stage. Gender roles were most responsible for labor pain in the latent phase. Results of the study revealed that gender roles may be useful variables to predict women's labor pain, and contributed to the relevant literature. Nurses and midwives offering care for labor pain should consider gender roles as a factor affecting labor pain. It is also necessary to individualize the supporting care given during labor. Background: The effects of climate change have been evident throughout all domains of health such as physical, social, environmental, and mental. However, the lack of perception made it a grey topic among the public. The aim of the study was to determine the perception of climate change on physical, environmental, and mental domains of health and to find the association between the physical, environmental, and mental effects of climate change and its basic characteristics. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted in a cross-sectional design among the general population above 30 years in the field practice area [urban and rural] of tertiary care hospital Perambalur for a period of three months. The data were collected using a semi-structured questionnaire and the interviewer method, which includes sociodemographic characteristics along with questions on the perception of climate change effects on mental, physical, and environmental aspects. The regression models were used to analyze the odds of perception among the subjects with respect to the various domains of characteristics. Results: The study included 877 participants, where the majority of subjects perceived the effects of climate change on physical, mental, and environmental domains of health. The odds of having a higher perception were significant in regression analysis among people with higher/school education, agriculture occupation, and rural residence (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Most of the study participants had an increased perception of climate change effects, making the subjects better candidates to impart adaptive strategies. Purpose: To comprehensively analyze the factors associated with different intensities of physical activity and sedentary behavior in newly diagnosed lung cancer patients in the early postoperative period, providing a basis for clinically tailored personalized intervention measures. Methods: A cross-sectional study design was employed, and 915 patients newly diagnosed with lung cancer completed a questionnaire survey on demographics, disease, health-related fitness, and psychosocial factors. Physical activity levels and sedentary behaviors were assessed using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS 25.0. Results: The physical activity level of walking amounted to 1265.4 ± 1025.8 MET-min/week, potentially influenced by factors such as region, depression, health behavior capacity, and lactate dehydrogenase. The moderate-intensity physical activity level stood at 529.8 ± 976.5 MET-min/week, subject to influences like regional lymph node staging, body mass index, and albumin levels, among other factors. The high-intensity physical activity level was 111.1 ± 731.0 MET-min/week, potentially affected by region, grip strength, health behavior capacity, and other factors. Sedentary time averaged 5 ± 3 h/day, potentially influenced by work conditions, red blood cell values, and other factors. With remarkable progress in the field of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) prophylaxis, it is critical to understand population immunity against RSV. We aim to describe the RSV pre-F IgG antibodies across all age groups in Southern China and to evaluate the risk factors associated with lower antibody levels. We performed a community-based cross-sectional sero-epidemiological study in Anhua County, Hunan Province, Southern China, from July 15, 2021, to November 5, 2021. Serum samples were tested for IgG antibodies against the RSV prefusion F (pre-F) protein using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. We estimated the geometric mean titres (GMTs) and seropositivity rates across all age groups. The generalized linear models were built to identify factors associated with antibody levels. A total of 890 participants aged 4 months to older than 89 years were enrolled. The lowest RSV pre-F IgG GMTs were observed in infants and toddlers aged 4 months to younger than 2 years (3.0; 95% CI, 2.6–3.5). With increasing age, the RSV pre-F IgG GMT increased to 4.3 (95% CI, 4.1–4.4) between the ages of 2 and younger than 5 years and then stabilized at high levels throughout life. All the children had serological evidence of RSV infection by the age of 5 years. Age was associated with RSV pre-F antibody levels in children, with an estimated 1.9-fold (95% CI, 0.8–3.6) increase in titre per year before 5 years of age, although it was not significantly associated with antibody levels in adults aged older than 60 years. Purpose: The study aimed to investigate the relationship between obesity and common mental disorders (CMD) among women. Methods: This is a cross-sectional population-based study with a representative sample of 981 adult women (20–60 years of age) living in the urban area of the municipality of São Leopoldo, RS, Brazil, in 2015. The presence of CMD was assessed using the Self-Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ-20 ≥ 8). Obesity was defined by body mass index (BMI ≥ 30.0 kg/m2). Prevalence ratios (PRs) for the association between obesity and CMD were measured by Poisson regression with robust variance, including their respective 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results: The mean age of the sample was 40.3 years (standard deviation = 11.4 years). The prevalence of CMD was 33.7% (95% CI 30.8–36.7), while obesity was 31.2% (95% CI 28.3–34.1). The occurrence of CMD was higher in women with low levels of education and belonging to lower economic class, as well as smokers and those who were insufficiently active. Obesity was more prevalent in older women (50–60 years old) with less schooling, who did not consume alcohol, and those who were insufficiently active. After adjusting for potential confounding factors, women with obesity were 22% more likely to have CMD when compared to those without obesity (PR = 1.22; 95% CI 1.02–1.45; p = 0.030). Conclusions: This study demonstrated a significant association between obesity and the presence of CMD among women. Additionally, the prevalence of obesity and CMD were high in this population group. We examined whether quarantined individuals complied with rules to prevent transmission at home and whether the government provided appropriate support to individuals in quarantine. Between November 2020 and August 2021, we surveyed 198 individuals who had been or were quarantined at home without infection. The online survey results show that respondents experienced difficulties living in close quarters with their cohabitants and had low compliance with in-house hygiene rules. The government needed to provide adequate employment protection, living expense, or care support. Such failures of the system were mainly due to a lack of legal grounds for the government to operate. Background: Prevotella bacteria are associated with inherent diseases of the oral cavity, such as periodontal disease, and systemic diseases. Oral frailty (OF) has been associated with nursing necessity and death. However, the relationship between OF and oral microbiota has not been fully clarified. Objective: This cross‐sectional study investigated the association between OF and Prevotella percentage in the oral microbiota of community‐dwelling older adults. Methods: Oral bacteria species from saliva were identified in 208 community‐dwelling older individuals aged ≥60 years in Japan. The proportion of Prevotella in the oral microbiota was classified into three tertile groups, and its relationship with each test item for OF (number of remaining teeth, masticatory performance, oral diadochokinesis, tongue pressure, difficulties eating tough foods, difficulties swallowing tea or soup, number of applicable OF judgement items, and existence of OF) was examined using ordinal logistic regression analysis. Results: The Prevotella proportions were classified into lower, middle and upper groups, comprising 70, 69 and 69 participants, respectively. The three groups showed a significant relationship between the number of remaining teeth (odds ratio [OR]: 0.946, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.915–0.977), masticatory performance (OR: 0.897, 95% CI: 0.844–0.953), number of applicable OF judgement items (OR: 1.477, 95% CI: 1.14–1.915), and existence of OF (OR: 4.194, 95% CI: 1.519–11.576). This study investigated the association between coffee and caffeine consumption and the risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) as well as lung function utilizing data from the NHANES 2007–2012. We assessed the associations of coffee and caffeine consumption with the risk of COPD and lung function parameters, including FEV1 and FVC, adjusting for common demographic and disease characteristics in a cross-sectional analysis of NHANES data. A total of 9763 participants were included in the study, and 592 were diagnosed with COPD. Multivariate regression models revealed positive associations between coffee and caffeine consumption and the risk of COPD and lung function. Subgroup analyses stratified by sex, DM, hypertension status, and smoking habits identified potential effect modifiers as well as inflection points from threshold effect examinations. The results of this cross-sectional study indicated significant positive correlations between coffee and caffeine consumption and the risk of COPD. Additionally, positive correlations between exposure variables and FEV1 and FVC were detected. Among the stratification factors, smoking status exhibited the most potential for modifying effects. Several studies have shown that dietary isoflavones are negatively correlated with total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol. However, few studies have investigated the link between dietary isoflavones and remnant cholesterol (RC). We used the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database to explore the association between dietary isoflavone intake and RC. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 4731 participants aged ≥ 20 years from the 2007–2008, 2009–2010, and 2017–2018 NHANES databases. We adopted univariate and multiple linear regression analysis and restricted cubic spline (RCS) to assess the relationship between dietary isoflavone intake and RC. Moreover, we conducted stratified and interaction analyses to ensure the stability of the results and identify specific populations. The weighted multifactor linear regression model showed a negative correlation between dietary isoflavone intake and remnant cholesterol (Model 2, β = -0.049, 95% CI: (-0.096, -0.002), P = 0.040). The RCS analysis indicated that there was an L-shaped negative correlation between dietary isoflavone intake and RC (P -value for non-linearity was 0.0464). Stratified analyses showed the inverse relationship between dietary isoflavone intake and RC persisted in most subgroups and there was no interaction except for the recreational activity group. Our study found a non-linear and negative association between dietary isoflavone intake and RC in US adults, so we hypothesized that consuming an isoflavone-rich diet may help reduce blood RC and further reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. Background: This research aimed to explore the association between changes in the intake of common individual vitamins and combinations of vitamins and the prevalence of kidney calculi. Methods: We used data from NHANES to investigate the association between nine common vitamins and kidney stone prevalence. Participants were clustered into several vitamin exposure patterns using an unsupervised K-means clustering method. We used logistic regression models and restrictive cubic spline curves to explore the influence of vitamins. Results: The regression model exposed that compared to lower intake, high intake of vitamin B6 [Q4: OR (95% CI) = 0.76 (0.62, 0.93)], vitamin C [Q4: OR (95% CI) = 0.73 (0.59, 0.90)] and vitamin D [Q4: OR (95% CI) = 0.77 (0.64, 0.94)] individually exerted protective effects against the prevalence of kidney stones. Furthermore, the restrictive cubic spline analysis showed that the protective effect against the prevalence of kidney stones is enhanced as the take of vitamin B6 and vitamin D increased. Moreover, with the increase in vitamin C intake, its protective effect may turn into a risk factor. Regarding mixed exposure, Cluster 4 exhibited a significant protective effect against kidney stones compared with Cluster 1 [Model 3: OR (95% CI) = 0.79 (0.64, 0.98)]. Conclusions: Our research revealed that high levels of vitamin B6 and vitamin D intake were linked to a lower prevalence of kidney stone. With the gradual increase intake of vitamin C, the prevalence of kidney calculi decreased first and then increased. This study aimed to explore physicians' and pharmacists' knowledge, attitudes, and practice (KAP) regarding the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular toxicity associated with cancer treatment. A multicenter cross-sectional study included physicians and pharmacists between April 2023 and June 2023. The study included 918 participants (514 physicians and 404 pharmacists). The average scores of knowledge, attitudes, and practice were 11.6 ± 3.39, 24.7 ± 2.6, and 26.3 ± 6.8 points. Sufficient knowledge was significantly associated with age ≥ 41 years (odds ratio (OR) = 2.745, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.086–6.941, P = 0.033), male (OR = 2.745, 95% CI 1.150–2.223, P = 0.005), bachelor's degree (OR = 0.084, 95% CI 0.013–0.533, P = 0.009), master's degree and above (OR = 0.096, 95% CI 0.015–0.609, P = 0.013), physician occupation (OR = 7.601, 95% CI 1.337–43.207, P = 0.022), pharmacy department (OR = 18.858, 95% CI 3.245–109.57, P = 0.001), oncology department (OR = 4.304, 95% CI 2.426–7.634, P < 0.001), cardiology department (OR = 3.001, 95% CI 1.387–6.492, P = 0.005), hospitals located in Eastern China (OR = 1.957, 95% CI 1.120–3.418, P = 0.018), and hospitals located in Western China (OR = 3.137, 95% CI 1.783–5.518, P < 0.001). Positive attitudes were significantly associated with a senior professional title (OR = 2.989, 95% CI 1.124–7.954, P = 0.028) and hospitals located in Eastern China (OR = 0.424, 95% CI 0.257–0.698, P = 0.001), Western China (OR = 0.231, 95% CI 0.136–0.394, P < 0.001), and Southern China (OR = 0.341, 95% CI 0.198–0.587, P < 0.001). Proactive practice was significantly associated with male (OR = 1.414, 95% CI 1.029–1.943, P = 0.033), senior professional title (OR = 3.838, 95% CI 1.176–12.524, P = 0.026), oncology department (OR = 3.827, 95% CI 2.336–6.272, P < 0.001), and cardiology department (OR = 2.428, 95% CI 1.263–4.669, P = 0.008). Thyroid nodule (TN) has been becoming a great concern worldwide due to its high incidence. Although some studies have reported associations between trace elements exposure and the risk of TNs, the linkage was not inconclusive. The present study aimed to identify the association of selected serum trace elements (Ca, Mg, V, Fe, Co, Cu, Zn, Se, Mn and Mo) with TNs among general adults. A cross-sectional study was conducted in January 2021 in Chengdu, China. 1282 subjects completed the questionnaire and gave at least one human biological material after an overnight fast, venous blood, and urine, including 377 TN participants defined through ultrasound. Various trace elements in serum specimens were determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. Thyroid functions were tested by chemiluminescent microparticle immunoassay (CMIA). The associations between trace elements levels and the risk of TNs were examined by restricted cubic splines (RCS) regression and bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) models. TNs were more common in females (P < 0.001) and in the elderly (P < 0.001) and that they were also frequently associated with fertility, marital status, annual household income, drinking, anxiety, vitamin supplement, tea consumption, hypertension and hyperlipidemia. After adjusting for confounders by a propensity score matching model, the association between trace elements concentrations and TNs risk was found to be statistically insignificant in the RCS (P for nonlinear > 0.05) and BKMR models. FT3 or T4 (total or free) increased significantly with increasing total trace elements mixture levels. In TI-RADS-4 TN subjects, TPO-Ab level increased significantly with increasing total trace elements mixture levels in the high-dose range. Ca, Zn, Mo at their 75th percentile showed positive individual effects on TPO-Ab, which was examined to be interactive. The detection of trace elements for TNs in general adults may be of no significance, but once individuals classified as TI-RADS-4 TNs are detected with abnormal TPO-Ab, Ca, Zn and Mo level are recommended to measure. Background: Unintentional injuries is the leading cause of death in children aged 6–18 in China. Previous studies on the association between the guardians' educational levels and unintentional injuries in children have been inconclusive, and it remains unclear among the Chinese population. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the association between guardians' educational levels and unintentional injuries in children aged 6–18 in Shenzhen, China. Methods: This cross-sectional study enrolled 9,903 children aged 6–18 in Shenzhen in 2020 using a multistage cluster sampling method. Information on the children and guardians were collected, and unintentional injuries in the past year was examined by using two nested questions. Logistic regression analyses were used to test the association between the guardians' educational levels and unintentional injuries in children aged 6–18, and the crude odds ratios (ORs) and adjusted ORs with 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) were calculated. Results: 275 of the 9,903 children reported experiencing at least one unintentional injuries in the past year, and the weighted incidence of unintentional injuries was 6.3% (95% CI: 5.8–6.8%) in children aged 6–18 in Shenzhen, China. The incidence of unintentional injuries differed significantly in the guardians' education levels (P < 0.05). After adjustment for the children's variables, multiple binary logistic regression analysis showed that compared to children whose guardians' educational levels were low, children whose guardians' educational levels were high (adjusted OR = 0.57, 95% CI: 0.37–0.87) and medium (adjusted OR = 0.56, 95% CI: 0.39–0.81) had a lower odds of unintentional injuries. Similar results were also observed when further adjustment for both the children's and guardians' variables. Conclusion: The overall incidence of unintentional injuries in children aged 6–18 in Shenzhen was low, and it was associated with the guardians' educational levels. Children whose guardians' educational levels were low should be given special concern to prevent unintentional injuries, and it is suggested to reduce the incidence of unintentional injuries in children by improving the guardians' educational levels. Background: The national volume-based procurement (NVBP) policy has significantly decreased prices and increased the accessibility of NVBP drugs. Nevertheless, issues such as heightened adverse reactions and suboptimal efficacy have arisen. Concerns regarding the quality of low-cost medications and the absence of long-term research have been widely recognized. This has led to caution among patients with late-life depression (LLD) due to their delicate health and the severity of their condition. This study evaluated the choice intention for NVBP drugs and associated factors in older patients with LLD. Methods: A weighted sample of 408 participants between December 2022 and March 2023 were included. Data were collected via face-to-face interviews and questionnaires. To identify significant associated factors of choice intention, a multilevel logistic regression model was employed. Results: Over half (53.68%) of older patients with LLD intended to choose NVBP drugs. Associated factors included self-assessed poor economy, higher out-of-pocket expenses, monthly household income exceeding CNY 6000, absence of other non-communicable chronic diseases, ordinary registration, urban employee medical insurance, no requirements for brand-name drugs, adverse reactions after using NVBP drugs, and rejection of physicians' recommendation for NVBP drugs. The interaction effect between the real economic condition and patients self-assessed economy significantly influences choice intention for NVBP drugs. Among 124 patients with self-assessed poor economy, 75 showed a higher intention to use NVBP drugs. In these patients, age, medical insurance reimbursement, and brand awareness were significantly associated with choice intention. Conclusion: Economic factors, physical conditions, medical needs, and physician recommendations significantly influenced the choice intention for NVBP drugs. The choice intention can be improved by strengthening physician-patient communication, increasing the scope and proportion of medical insurance reimbursement, improving substitution studies, and conducting post-marketing re-evaluations of NVBP drugs. Background: The relationship between obesity and type 2 diabetes with bone health has always been a topic of debate. The weight-adjusted waist index has become a commonly used indicator for assessing central obesity, fat, and muscle mass. However, currently there is no research reporting the association between weight-adjusted waist index and risk of osteoporosis in populations of type 2 diabetes. Therefore, this study aims to provide new information on the association between weight-adjusted waist index and risk of osteoporosis in type 2 diabetes. Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 963 patients with type 2 diabetes who were admitted to the Department of Endocrinology of Cangzhou Central Hospital. Multivariate logistic regression models were used to assess the association between weight-adjusted waist index and osteoporosis. The potential nonlinear association was evaluated. The effects of interaction between subgroups were assessed using the likelihood ratio test. Results: Weight-adjusted waist index was positively associated with the risk of osteoporosis, regardless of traditional confounding factors. For each 1 unit increased in weight-adjusted waist index, the risk of osteoporosis increased by 67%. Furthermore, there was a nonlinear relationship between weight-adjusted waist index and osteoporosis. The subgroup analysis did not reveal any significant interactions. Conclusions: Our study indicated a positive association between weight-adjusted waist index and the risk of osteoporosis in adult Chinese type 2 diabetes patients, and this relationship was nonlinear. Background: The ratio between non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (NHHR) is a reliable marker for assessing the risk linked to lipid metabolism disorders. Sarcopenia, characterized by age-related loss of muscle mass and strength/function, includes the assessment of muscle mass, muscle strength, and muscle-specific strength. However, research into NHHR's relationship with low muscle mass risk remains unexplored. Methods: Our study utilized a cross-sectional approach, examining data derived from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2011 to 2018. Through multivariable linear and logistic regression, we investigated the relationships of the NHHR with muscle mass and low muscle mass. We visualized the results using smoothing curves and assessed threshold effects. We also performed various subgroup and sensitivity analyses. Results: This research encompassed 9,012 participants and demonstrated significant nonlinear associations between NHHR and ALMBMI or low muscle mass risk in a generalized additive model (GAM), pinpointing critical NHHR values (3.328 and 3.367) where changes in NHHR significantly impacted ALMBMI and low muscle mass risk. Conclusions: The NHHR demonstrates a significant association with an increased risk of low muscle mass among middle-aged Americans. AbstractExcessive visceral adipose tissue (VAT) is a significant risk factor for various diseases. Diet plays a crucial role in controlling obesity. This study examined the association between the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet and VAT in 9027 adults using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Linear regression models were used to explore this association, with subgroup analyses included. Results showed a significant inverse association between DASH scores and VAT area, even after adjusting for covariates (β = −2.18, 95% CI: −3.10, −1.27). Participants in the highest DASH score tertile had significantly lower VAT areas compared to those in the lowest tertile (β = −7.2, 95% CI: −10.40, −4.01). Background: Although burnout syndrome has been described in numerous research studies, the data on burnout syndrome among medical students in developing countries is scanty. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of high-risk for burnout syndrome and its associated factors among university undergraduate medical students in Serbia. Methods: An observational, analytical, cross-sectional study was conducted using the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Student Survey and a survey on associated factors. The research was carried out from February to March 2014. Multivariate logistic regression was used to determine the adjusted odds ratio (Odds Ratio, OR) with 95% Confidence Interval (95%CI) in order to identify independent correlates of high risk of burnout syndrome. Results: A high risk for burnout syndrome was noted in 15.0% of respondents; that is, 114/760 medical students suffered from high emotional exhaustion, high cynicism, and low academic efficiency. According to the results of multivariate logistic regression, the main significant independent correlates of high risk for burnout syndrome in medical students were: age of students (for aged 22–24: adjusted OR = 5.64, 95%CI = 2.58–12.34, p < 0.001 for aged ≥ 25: adjusted OR = 5.65, 95%CI = 2.08–15.39, p = 0.001) with p for trend < 0.001, higher frequency of alcohol consumption (for habit 1–2 times a week: adjusted OR = 2.01, 95%CI = 1.01–4.03, p = 0.048) with p for trend = 0.025, and use of sedatives (adjusted OR = 3.44, 95%CI = 1.31–9.04; p = 0.012). Conclusion: The present study identified several factors associated with burnout syndrome in Serbian medical students. Some factors associated with the high risk of burnout syndrome in medical students are modifiable. It is important to carry out similar research on burnout syndrome in the future, especially using longitudinal studies, in order to evaluate the associations found in this cross-sectional study. Patient satisfaction is important in healthcare as it affects the quality of care and can lower costs in hospitals. This study aimed to measure immigrant satisfaction with outpatient services at Firoozabadi Hospital's pediatric clinic. Data were collected from immigrant patients from January to July 2023. The Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire 18 and the personal information checklist were used in oral interviews with caregivers. The overall satisfaction score was 72.95 out of 90, with a standard deviation of 12.57. Financial issues received the lowest satisfaction scores, while interpersonal manner received the highest ratings. Out of the 241 respondents, 48.6% were completely satisfied, 32.7% were satisfied, 10.6% had no opinion, and 4.4% expressed dissatisfaction. Satisfaction levels were not correlated with income, education, possession of identification documents or health insurance, and length of stay in Iran. Overall, most participants were happy with the outpatient services, but many lacked health insurance. Background: Obstetric ultrasound is considered important for determining gestational age, identifying single or multiple pregnancies, locating the placenta and fetal anomalies and monitoring fetal growth and pregnancy-related complications in order to improve patient management. Objectives: To explore health professionals' perspectives on different aspects of obstetric ultrasound in Tanzania regarding self-reported skills in performing ultrasound examinations and what could improve access to and utilization of obstetric ultrasound in the clinical setting. Design: Cross-sectional study. Material and Methods: Data was collected between November and December 2017 using a questionnaire based on previous qualitative research results from the CROss Country UltraSound Study (CROCUS Study). Seventeen healthcare facilities in 5 urban and semiurban municipalities in the Dar-es-Salaam region were included, with 636 health professionals participating (physicians, n = 307 and midwives/nurses, n = 329). Results: Most health professionals (82% physicians, 81% midwives/nurses) believed that obstetric ultrasound was decisive in the clinical management of pregnancy. Results indicate proficiency gaps across disciplines: 51% of physicians and 48.8% of midwives/nurses reported no or low-level skills in assessing cervical length. Similarly, deficiencies were observed in evaluating the four-chamber view of the fetal heart (physicians: 51%, midwives/nurses: 61%), aorta, pulmonary artery (physicians: 60.5%, midwives/nurses: 65%) and Doppler assessments (umbilical artery: physicians 60.6%, midwives/nurses 56.1%). Compared to midwives/nurses, physicians were significantly more likely to agree or strongly agree that utilization would improve with more ultrasound machines (odds ratio (OR) 2.13; 95% confidence intervals (CI) 1.26–3.61), better quality of ultrasound machines (OR 2.27; 95% CI 1.10–4.69), more training for health professionals currently performing ultrasound (OR 2.11; 95% CI 1.08–4.17) and more physicians trained in ultrasound (OR 2.51; 95% CI 1.30–4.87). Conclusions: Improving the provision of obstetric ultrasound examinations in Tanzania requires more and better-quality ultrasound machines, enhanced training for health professionals and an increased number of physicians trained in ultrasound use. Background: Value-Based Care (VBC) is increasingly recognized as a pivotal approach in healthcare, aiming to improve patient outcomes while optimizing costs. Understanding the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of nurses towards VBC is crucial for its successful implementation. Methods: This study adopts a multi-center, online, cross-sectional design to survey registered nurses across China to evaluate their KAP related to VBC.The survey was disseminated through the platform Wenjuanxing (SoJump) targeting professional nursing groups, utilizing a structured questionnaire on a five-point Likert scale. Result: The survey received a total of 1,825 valid responses from 82 hospitals across 18 provinces, with the majority coming from female nurses (95.02%), and a significant portion of the nurses having 10–19 years of clinical experience. 41.32% of the participants indicated they were familiar with Value-Based Care (VBC), and 68% expressed a willingness to participate in relevant training. There was a significant difference (p < 0.001) in the reported incidence of low-value services between nurses' self-reports and their reports about colleagues, with a lower incidence reported by nurses themselves. The highest incidence of low-value services reported by nurses themselves was "Unnecessary Lab testing" (6.52%), while the highest incidence reported by nurses about their colleagues was "Insufficient Treatment" (12.75%). Background: Cobalt (Co) is a metal which is widely used in the industrial production. The previous studies found the toxic effects of environmental Co exposure on multiple organs. However, the correlation of blood Co concentration with lung function was inconsistent in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Methods: All 771 stable COPD patients were recruited. Peripheral blood and clinical information were collected. The levels of blood Co and serum CC16 were measured. Results: Cross-sectional study suggested that the level of blood Co was inversely and dose-dependently related to lung function parameters. Each 1 ppm elevation of blood Co was related to 0.598 L decline in FVC, 0.465 L decline in FEV1, 6.540% decline in FEV1/FVC%, and 14.013% decline in FEV1%, respectively. Moreover, higher age, enrolled in winter, current-smoking, higher smoking amount, and inhaled corticosteroids prominently exacerbated the negative correlation between blood Co and lung function. Besides, serum CC16 content was gradually reduced with blood Co elevation in COPD patients. Besides, serum CC16 was positively correlated with lung function, and inversely related to blood Co. Additionally, decreased CC16 substantially mediated 11.45% and 6.37% Co-triggered downregulations in FEV1 and FEV1%, respectively. Conclusion: Blood Co elevation is closely related to the reductions of pulmonary function and serum CC16. Background: Recent years have seen the emergence of numerous novel indicators for visceral obesity. This study investigates the potential correlation between the Chinese visceral adiposity index (CVAI) and hyperuricemia (HUA). Methods: This research, derived from a 2011 cross-sectional analysis in Dalian, China, employed restricted cubic spline (RCS) plots to identify inflection points. Subsequently, one-way and multifactorial logistic regression models were utilized, with HUA as the outcome variable. Additionally, subgroup analyses and interaction tests were conducted. Eventually, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were calculated to assess the effectiveness of CVAI and other body composition indices in predicting HUA. Results: The study included 10,061 individuals, with a HUA prevalence of 14.25%. Significant relationships with HUA were observed for CVAI. RCS analysis revealed a J-shaped relationship between CVAI and HUA. Compared to those in the low CVAI category, HUA was notably associated with individuals in the high CVAI category in multifactorial logistic regression (OR = 2.661, 95% CI: 2.323, 3.047). Subgroup analyses demonstrated stronger relationships in women, participants without hypertension, and participants without diabetes. Additional modeling via ROC curves suggested that the CVAI may offer effective predictive value for HUA. Conclusion: This study confirmed that an elevated CVAI elevates the risk of HUA in middle-aged and elderly populations in the Dalian community. Background: Evidence shows that cancer patients are more likely to have hyperuricemia (HUA) compared to the general population, with lipid metabolism playing a significant role. However, it is still unclear whether there is a non-linear relationship between the non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (NHHR) and HUA in these patients. This study aims to explore the association between NHHR and HUA in cancer patients. Methods: This study included participants from the NHANES database from 2007 to 2018. We used multivariable logistic regression, restricted cubic splines (RCS) analysis, and subgroup analysis to examine the association between NHHR and HUA and gout in cancer patients, as well as to investigate differences in this association among specific subgroups. Results: A total of 2826 participants were included, with a HUA prevalence of 24.30%. Weighted multivariable logistic regression showed that for each unit increase in NHHR, the odds of HUA in cancer patients increased by 16% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.06, 1.29, P = 0.002). When NHHR was divided into tertiles, those in the highest tertile (Q3) had a 1.84 times higher odds of developing HUA compared to those in the lowest tertile (Q1) (95% CI: 1.32, 2.58, P < 0.001). However, there was no significant association with gout. RCS analysis further revealed a significant non-linear positive association, particularly among males. Subgroup analysis and interaction tests indicated a stronger association in cancer patients who did not have a history of stroke. Objectives: The relationship between non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (NHHR) and hypertension remains uncertain, warranting further investigation. This study aims to elucidate the association between NHHR and hypertension. Methods: A comprehensive cross-sectional stratified survey involving 30,602 participants aged 20 years and older was conducted using the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) dataset from 2001 to 2018. NHHR was calculated as [total cholesterol (TC) - high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C)]/HDL-C. The relationship between NHHR and hypertension was examined using weighted multiple linear regression, smooth curve fitting, hierarchical analysis, and interaction testing. Results: The mean age of participants was 49.82 ± 17.64 years, with 15,266 women included. The average NHHR was 2.94 ± 0.56. A positive correlation between NHHR and hypertension was observed. Stratification of NHHR into quartiles, in the fully adjusted Model 3, revealed that individuals in the highest NHHR quartile had a 60% increased risk of hypertension for each unit increase in NHHR compared to those in the lowest quartile. Interaction tests indicated that the relationship between NHHR and hypertension remained consistent across subgroups, except for gender, age, education, and smoking status, which influenced this association. Conclusion: Analysis of NHANES data from 2001 to 2018 demonstrated a consistent positive association between NHHR and hypertension. Purpose: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) commonly impacts the quality of life in older men. However, there is lack of research on relationship between dietary niacin intake and the risk of BPH. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between dietary niacin intake and the risk of BPH. Methods: Data from the NHANES spanning 2003 to 2008 were utilized. BPH was determined using a self-report questionnaire, while dietary niacin intake was calculated based on the mean of two distinct diet interviews. Multivariate logistic regressions were performed to explore the association, supplemented with restricted cubic splines and subgroup analysis. Results: A total of 700 males were enrolled, of which 653 men had BPH. After adjusting for all covariates, a high dietary intake of niacin was associated with an increased risk of BPH (OR: 1.04; 95%CI: 1.01–1.07). Furthermore, when the lowest dietary niacin intake is used as the reference, the highest tertile is associated with an increased risk of BPH (OR: 2.34, 95% CI: 1.24-4,42). Restricted cubic splines demonstrated a positive correlation between dietary niacin intake and BPH risk. Conclusions: The study results demonstrated a positive association between dietary niacin intake and the risk of BPH in elderly men in the US. These findings underscore the importance of systematic assessment before supplementing micronutrients in elderly men. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
