Background: Biliary dilatation without obvious etiology on cross sectional imaging warrants further investigation. This study aimed to assess yield of endoscopic ultrasound in providing etiologic diagnosis in such situation. Methods: Prospective cohort of consecutive patients with biliary dilatation & non diagnostic computed tomography (CT) and /or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) underwent endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) with/without fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) and were followed clinically, biochemically with/without radiology for up to six months. The findings of EUS were corroborated with histopathology of surgical specimens and endoscopic retrograde cholangiography (ERCP) findings in relevant cases. Results: Median age of 121 patients completing follow up was 55 years. 98.2% patients were symptomatic and median common bile duct (CBD) diameter was 13 mm. EUS was able to identify lesions attributable for biliary dilatation in (67 out of 121) 55.4% cases with ampullary neoplasm being the commonest (29 out of 67 i.e. 43%). Multivariate logistic regression analysis identified jaundice as the predictor of positive diagnosis on EUS, of finding ampullary lesion and pancreatic lesion on EUS. EUS had sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and diagnostic accuracy of 95.65%, 94.23%, 95.65% and 95.04% respectively in providing etiologic diagnosis. Threshold value for baseline bilirubin of 10 mg%, for baseline CA 19.9 of 225 u/L and for largest CBD diameter of 16 mm were determined to have specificity of 98%, 95%, 92.5% respectively of finding a positive diagnosis on EUS. The surgical management of extremity bone and soft tissue sarcomas has evolved significantly over the last 50 years. The introduction and refinement of high-resolution cross-sectional imaging has allowed accurate assessment of anatomy and tumor extent, and in the current era more than 90% of patients can successfully undergo limb-salvage surgery. Advances in imaging have also revolutionized the clinician's ability to assess treatment response, detect metastatic disease, and perform intraoperative surgical navigation. This review summarizes the broad and essential role radiology plays in caring for sarcoma patients from diagnosis to post-treatment surveillance. Pancreatic cystic lesions (PCLs) are increasingly diagnosed owing to the wide use of cross-sectional imaging techniques. Accurate identification of PCL categories is critical for determining the indications for surgical intervention or surveillance. The classification and management of PCLs rely on a comprehensive and interdisciplinary evaluation, integrating clinical data, imaging findings, and cyst fluid markers. EUS (endoscopic ultrasound) has become the widely used diagnostic tool for the differentiation of pancreatic cystic lesions, offering detailed evaluation of even small pancreatic lesions with high sensitivity and specificity. Additionally, endoscopic ultrasound–fine-needle aspiration enhances diagnostic capabilities through cytological analysis and the assessment of fluid viscosity, tumor glycoprotein concentration, amylase levels, and molecular scrutiny. These detailed insights play a pivotal role in improving the clinical prognosis and management of pancreatic neoplasms. This review will focus mainly on the latest recommendations for the differentiation, management, and treatment of pancreatic cystic lesions, highlighting their clinical significance. Crohn's disease (CD) is frequently complicated by strictures that can be either inflammatory or fibrostenotic. This distinction is important for deciding the best treatment course, but it can be difficult to determine clinically, sometimes even by advanced imaging techniques. We performed miRNA PCR panel screening on pooled samples of ileum with CD fibrostenosis or inflammatory stenosis. Eight miRNAs with profibrotic (miR-93-5p, miR-376c-3p and miR-424-5p), or fibroprotective (miR-133a-3p, miR-133b, miR-193a-5p, miR-335-5p and miR-378a-3p) functions described in the literature were selected for validation on 20 samples each of CD with fibrostenosis or inflammatory stenosis, with a separate sampling of the submucosa and subserosa. The results showed significant differences between the groups in subserosal samples, with upregulation of profibrotic miRNAs and downregulation of fibroprotective miRNAs in fibrostenosis compared to inflammatory stenosis. Only miR-424-5p showed a significant difference in the submucosa. There were significant differences in miRNA expression between subserosa and submucosa. Our results provide further evidence that the major differences between fibrostenosis and inflammatory stenosis are located in the subserosa, which is inaccessible to endoscopic sampling, highlighting the need for cross-sectional imaging or serological markers. Introduction: Complicated perianal disease (cPD) may be the sole presentation of Crohn's disease (CD). The role of small-bowel capsule endoscopy (SBCE) in the diagnostic algorithm of cPD is unclear. We aimed to evaluate the role of SBCE as a diagnostic tool, in patients with cPD, after a negative standard workup for CD. Methods: A multicenter, retrospective, cross-sectional study, in patients with cPD, and negative standard workup for CD (ileocolonoscopy and cross-sectional imaging), who underwent SBCE for suspected CD. Demographics, biomarkers, and the Lewis Score (LS) were recorded and analyzed. An LS ≥ 135 was considered a positive SBCE for diagnosing CD. Results: Ninety-one patients were included: 65 (71.4%) males; median age: 37 (29–51) years; cPD duration: 25.1 (12.5–66.1) months. Positive SBCE: 24/91 (26.4%) patients. Fecal calprotectin (FC) positively correlated with LS (r = 0.81; p < 0.001). FC levels of 100 µg/g and 50 µg/g had a sensitivity of only 40% and 55% to rule out small-bowel CD, with a negative predictive value (NPV) of only 76% and 80%, respectively. Conclusions: SBCE contributed to CD diagnosis in a quarter of patients with cPD after a negative standard workup. FC levels correlated with the degree of inflammation defined by the LS. Objective: To rigorously evaluate the impact of the percentage of parenchymal volume preserved (PPVP) and how well the preserved parenchyma recovers from ischaemia (Recischaemia) on functional outcomes after partial nephrectomy (PN) using an accurate and objective software‐based methodology for estimating parenchymal volumes and split renal function (SRF). A secondary objective was to assess potential predictors of the PPVP. Patients and Methods: A total of 894 PN patients with available studies (2011–2014) were evaluated. The PPVP was measured from cross‐sectional imaging at ≤3 months before and 3–12 months after PN using semi‐automated software. Pearson correlation evaluated relationships between continuous variables. Multivariable linear regression evaluated predictors of ipsilateral glomerular filtration rate (GFR) preserved and the PPVP. Relative‐importance analysis was used to evaluate the impact of the PPVP on ipsilateral GFR preserved. Recischaemia was defined as the percentage of ipsilateral GFR preserved normalised by the PPVP. Results: The median tumour size and R.E.N.A.L. nephrometry score were 3.4 cm and 7, respectively. In all, 49 patients (5.5%) had a solitary kidney. In all, 538 (60%)/251 (28%)/104 (12%) patients were managed with warm/cold/zero ischaemia, respectively. The median pre/post ipsilateral GFRs were 40/31 mL/min/1.73 m2, and the median (interquartile range [IQR]) percentage of ipsilateral GFR preserved was 80% (71–88%). The median pre/post ipsilateral parenchymal volumes were 181/149 mL, and the median (IQR) PPVP was 84% (76–92%). In all, 330 patients (37%) had a PPVP of <80%, while only 34 (4%) had a Recischaemia of <80%. The percentage of ipsilateral GFR preserved correlated strongly with the PPVP (r = 0.83, P < 0.01) and loss of parenchymal volume accounted for 80% of the loss of ipsilateral GFR. Multivariable analysis confirmed that the PPVP was the strongest predictor of ipsilateral GFR preserved. Greater tumour size and endophytic and nearness properties of the R.E.N.A.L. nephrometry score were associated with a reduced PPVP (all P ≤ 0.01). Solitary kidney and cold ischaemia were associated with an increased PPVP (all P < 0.05). Conclusions: A reduced PPVP predominates regarding functional decline after PN, although a low Recischaemia can also contribute. A pulsating waterjet is a technological modification of a conventional waterjet that utilizes ultrasonic vibrations to generate a modulated jet, resulting in repetitive fatigue loading of the material. The erosion efficiency of the ultrasonic pulsating waterjet is majorly determined by the hydraulic factors and its interaction with standoff distance. However, the dependency of the wear rates on different hydraulic factors and formulation of an implicit prediction model for determining effective standoff distance is still not present to date. Therefore, in this study, the combined dependency of the supply pressure (20-40 MPa), nozzle diameter (0.3-1.0 mm), and standoff distance (1-121 mm) on wear rates of AW-6060 aluminum alloy are studied. Statistical analysis is used to determine the statistically significant factors and formulate regression equations to determine output responses within the experimental domain. The surface topography and sub-surface microhardness of the eroded grooves were studied. The results show that both the disintegration depth and the material removal increase with an increase in the nozzle diameter and supply pressure. However, the dependency of the output responses on nozzle diameter is statistically more evident than supply pressure and two-way interactions. Cross-sectional images of the grooves showed typical hydrodynamic erosion characteristics in erosion cavities, subsurface voids, and material upheaving. Pancreatic cystic lesions (PCLs) pose a diagnostic challenge due to their increasing incidence and the limitations of cross-sectional imaging and endoscopic-ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA). EUS-guided through the needle biopsy (EUS-TTNB) has emerged as a promising tool for improving the accuracy of cyst type determination and neoplastic risk stratification. EUS-TTNB demonstrates superior diagnostic performance over EUS-FNA, providing critical preoperative information that can significantly influence patient management and reduce unnecessary surgeries. However, the procedure has risks, with an overall adverse event rate of approximately 9%. Preventive measures and further prospective studies are essential to optimize its safety and efficacy. This review highlights the potential of EUS-TTNB to enhance the diagnostic and management approaches for patients with PCLs. It examines the current state of EUS-TTNB, including available devices, indications, procedural techniques, specimen handling, diagnostic yield, clinical impact, and associated adverse events. Cathode composites were fabricated using the nuclear growth (SEED) method. Compared to mortar mixing, the SEED method demonstrated higher cycle stability, with a 90LiNi1/3Mn1/3Co1/3O2–10Li7P2S8I composite retaining 99.7% discharge capacity after six cycles compared to 66.1%. Cross-sectional SEM-EDX images suggest that the solid electrolyte was more uniformly distributed in the cathode composite prepared using the SEED method. Aim Materials and Methods Results Conclusion To evaluate the performance of low‐dose cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) protocols with regard to linear bone measurements in the posterior mandible for implant planning compared with higher dose protocols.Forty‐two edentulous posterior sites in human cadaveric mandibles were imaged in three CBCT scanners using three or four protocols with varying exposure parameters to achieve lower dose. Co‐registration was performed to generate sagittal and cross‐sectional image sections representative of the implant site. Three observers measured bone height, from the alveolar crest to the mandibular canal, and width, three mm from the top of the alveolar crest. Intra‐ and interobserver reproducibility were assessed for the cases rated as nonmeasurable as well as for completed measurements. The measurements were analyzed using paired t‐tests for differences among the CBCT protocols and the frequency distribution of nonmeasurable cases with a Pearson Chi‐square test.Reproducibility for registering nonmeasurable cases varied among observers; however, no consistent significant differences were found in the frequency distribution of these cases among observers, units, and protocols. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) were >0.9 for all measurements of bone height and width. Mean differences of <0.5 mm were found regardless of protocol; however, one observer did in some cases produce larger differences.Linear bone measurements did not differ significantly and could be performed with excellent reliability, using low‐dose CBCT protocols compared with standard and high‐resolution ones. Introduction: The radiographical assessment of patella height has historically been performed using X-Ray. The aim of this study was to evaluate a new method for the assessment of patella height using MRI and to assess the correlation with the X-Ray based assessment. Materials and methods: 159 patients who had both lateral radiographs and MRI images were included. Parameters measured included traditional radiographical CDI, MRI-based CDI, and TT-TG distance. On the basis of the TT-TG, the patients were divided into 2 groups. Two different methods were used to assess CDI using MRI: using a single slice image, and an alternative technique using two different cross-sectional images. The correlation of the two measurement methods was assessed using Pearson's correlation coefficient. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was determined from the measurements of the two investigators. Results: The average TT-TG distance was 11.6 mm (± 4.6). In patients with a TT-TG < 15 mm, both measurement methods showed comparable correlation with measurements on X-Ray. In patients with a TT-TG of > 15 the the new cross-sectional imaging method showed higher correlation with traditional X-Ray assessment compared to CDI assessment using the traditional single slice method (r = 0.594, p < 0.001 vs. r = 0.302, p = 0.055). Conclusions: The assessment of CDI on MRI using a cross-sectional imaging method has a better correlation with traditional X-Ray assessment of CDI than single-slice assessment. Pancreatic cystic lesions (PCLs) have increased in prevalence due to the increased usage and advancements in cross-sectional abdominal imaging. Current diagnostic techniques cannot distinguish between PCLs requiring surgery, close surveillance, or expectant management. This has increased the morbidity and healthcare costs from inappropriately aggressive and conservative management strategies. Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) needle-based confocal laser endomicroscopy (nCLE) allows for microscopic examination and delineation of the surface epithelium of PCLs. Landmark studies have identified characteristics distinguishing various types of PCLs, confirmed the high diagnostic yield of EUS-nCLE (especially for PCLs with an equivocal diagnosis), and shown that EUS-nCLE helps to change management and reduce healthcare costs. Refining procedure technique and reducing procedure length have improved the safety of EUS-nCLE. The utilization of artificial intelligence and its combination with other EUS-based advanced diagnostic techniques would further improve the results of EUS-based PCL diagnosis. A structured training program and device improvements to allow more complete mapping of the pancreas cyst epithelium will be crucial for the widespread adoption of this promising technology. This study aimed to validate the accuracy of identifying Japanese hardwood species from microscopic cross-sectional images using convolutional neural networks (CNN). The overarching goal is to create a versatile model that can handle microscopic cross-sectional images of wood. To gauge the practical accuracy, a comprehensive database of microscopic images of Japanese hardwood species was provided by the Forest Research and Management Organization. These images, captured from various positions on wood blocks, different trees, and diverse production areas, resulted in substantial intra-species image variation. To assess the effect of data distribution on accuracy, two datasets, D1 and D2, representing a segregated and a non-segregated dataset, respectively--from 1,000 images (20 images from each of the 50 species) were compiled. For D1, distinct images were allocated to the training, validation, and testing sets. However, in D2, the same images were used for both training and testing. Furthermore, the influence of the evaluation methodology on the identification accuracy was investigated by comparing two approaches: patch evaluation and E2 image evaluation. There has been an increased recognition of a subset of congenital lobar emphysema (CLE), termed congenital sublobar hyperinflation (CSLH), which may affect only a segment of lung as opposed to an entire lobe. This is an uncommon variant for which there is a paucity of information in published literature. The majority of CLE are managed surgically. Current literature suggests non-operative management for CSLH. However, there has been slow adoption of non-operative management and there is not a well-established observation pathway. A retrospective review of all pediatric patients diagnosed with CSLH at a single institution was performed from 2017 to 2023 to determine if this variant may be safely managed with observation. A total of 10 patients were identified. Of these, three patients had consolidation on cross-sectional imaging; therefore, operative intervention was undertaken given diagnostic uncertainty. All patients managed observationally remained asymptomatic. This case series validates non-operative management for patients with asymptomatic CSLH. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This publication provides an overview of current imaging indications and practices for patients undergoing gender-affirming surgery, with an emphasis on the importance of tailored, patient-specific care. Gender-affirming surgeries are performed with personalized approaches at various stages of life for those with intersex traits or differences in sex development (I/DSD) and transgender and gender diverse (TGD) individuals. For I/DSD patients, ultrasound, genitography, or MRI occurs during infancy and puberty to evaluate genital and gonadal anatomy. Facial harmonization involves bony and soft tissue modifications, guided by maxillofacial computerized tomography (CT) with three-dimensional reconstruction. Ultrasound is the main modality in assessing hormone-related and post-surgical changes in the chest. Sella turcica is an important anatomical structure that contains the pituitary gland. Changes observed on the sella turcica facilitate the identification of diseases such as Down syndrome, Seckel syndrome and tuberculum sellae meningioma in humans. Therefore, studies in this region are critical for a better understanding of sella turcica. The crania of six adult male tuj sheep, five adult male hair goats and five adult male gazelles were used in the study. Cross‐sectional images of the cranium were captured using computed tomography. Cross‐sectional images were used to model the sella turcica region in 3D, and the region was analysed morphologically and morphometrically. It was observed in the study that fossa hypophysialis, dorsum sella and processus clinoideus caudalis were clearly observed on the sella turcica. The processus clinoideus caudalis in some animals was not split into two. In morphometric analysis, the sella turcica length and sella turcica height (rostral border) parameters were statistically significant between the groups (p < 0.05). Consequently, this study morphological and morphometric examinations were carried out on the sella turcica of different ruminant species, and the differences between the groups were discussed. Introduction: The uniqueness of the atlas (C1) and axis (C2) cervical vertebrae helps in transmitting weight from the cranial cavity to the rest of the vertebral column. A detailed understanding of the C1 and C2 morphometric dimensions is essential for evaluating treatment protocols such as screw placement and intralaminar fixations to provide stability for the occipitocervical complex. Computerised Tomography (CT) scan images are best for demonstrating the osseous margins. Aim: To assess the relationship between the linear morphometric measurements of the CT images and dry C1 and C2 vertebrae. Materials and Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted using 35 atlas (C1) and 35 axis (C2) dry bones from the Department of Anatomy, Karuna Institute of Medical Sciences, Palakkad, Kerala, India, from August 2023 to October 2023. A total of 35 CT scan images were also taken for the study. Siemens Syngo software tool was utilised to assess the C1 and C2 vertebrae. Measurements of the vertebral canal, foramen transversarium, superior articular facets, vertebral artery groove, dens, and body were performed on dry C1, C2, and CT images. Descriptive statistics were evaluated using mean, standard deviation, percentage difference, and mean deviation. The unpaired t-test was used to test significance, with p-value <0.05 considered statistically significant. Results: Concerning the anatomical parameters, between the dry C1 and CT scan images, all linear parameters were statistically significant (p-value <0.05), except for the vertebral artery grooveinner and outer distances, which were not statistically significant. Regarding C2, when comparing anatomical parameters between dry vertebrae and CT scan images, the width of the body and the length of the vertebral canal were not statistically significant, while all other C2 parameters were statistically significant (p-value <0.05). Conclusion: The results obtained from the study on the atlas and axis may be valuable for operating surgeons during surgical procedures in the craniovertebral region. Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate overdilation of 10-mm standard and 8–10 mm controlled-expansion Viatorr stents to 12 mm during transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) placement when insufficient reduction (<50%) in portosystemic gradient (PSG) is achieved with standard 10 mm dilation. Materials and Methods It is a single-institution, institutional review board-approved, retrospective review of TIPS (2013–2022) to identify patients in the overdilation group (12 mm dilation of a 10-mm stent) and a control group (10 mm dilation of a 10-mm stent) matched for age, indication, stent type, Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD) score, pre-TIPS PSG, and variceal embolization. Stent diameter, technical success, clinical outcomes, and adverse events were assessed for both groups. Results TIPS was created for the overdilation group (n = 35, 57 ± 11 years, 69% male; MELD: 14 ± 5) and control group (n = 35, 57 ± 11 years, 83% male; MELD: 14 ± 5). Overdilation to 12 mm adequately reduced PSG by more than 50% (55 vs. 65% in the control group, p = 0.11). The stent diameter was larger in the overdilation group on cross-sectional imaging (9.8 ± 0.2 vs. 9.5 ± 0.4 mm, p < 0.001), with an estimated 57% higher volume flow rate (p = 0.002). Patients were followed for a median of 11.3 months (range: 0.03–75) and 15.6 months (range: 0.03–106) in the overdilation and control groups, respectively. There was an equivalent rate of ascites resolution (56 vs. 63%, p = 0.68) and rebleeding (13 vs. 17%, p = 0.82) in the overdilation and control groups, with a similar risk of new-onset hepatic encephalopathy (41 vs. 33%, p = 0.51) and TIPS occlusion (11 vs. 9%, p = 0.69). Overdilation did not result in any instance of stent fracture. Conclusion Overdilation of 10-mm Viatorr stents with 12 mm balloons may provide benefit by potentially reducing PSG further for patients initially having inadequate PSG reduction with short-term safety. The hip cartilage and labrum, as the main targets of femoroacetabular impingement, sports‐related or traumatic damage, as well as congenital and developmental abnormalities, have attracted increasing attention with the development of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and hip arthroscopy. MRI is a commonly used imaging modality to noninvasively visualize the hip cartilage and labral lesions. However, conventional orthogonal MRI planes encounter unique challenges given the ball‐and‐socket configuration of the hip joint, its anatomically abducted and anteverted orientation, and the thin, closely apposed cartilage enveloping the femoral head and acetabulum. Advancements in hip MRI's radial plane, which is acquired through the center of the hip joint, offer a solution. This technology provides true cross‐sectional images of the cartilage and labrum perpendicular to the curvature of the joint, thereby mitigating the partial‐volume‐averaging effects. The integration of 3.0‐Tesla high field strength and three‐dimensional (3D) acquisition techniques further enhances the capabilities of the radial plane. This combination yields a high signal‐to‐noise ratio, high spatial resolution, high contrast between intraarticular structures, while minimizing partial‐volume‐averaging effects. Such improvements potentially facilitate the comprehensive detection of even minor chondral and labral lesions. The capability for multiplanar reconstruction from a single 3D volumetric acquisition further strengthens the usefulness of the radial plane by aiding in precise localization of hip cartilage and labral lesions, in line with hip arthroscopy findings. These advancements have the potential to standardize MRI evaluations and radiographic reporting systems for hip cartilage and labrum, offering precise guidance for hip arthroscopy. This article presents a comprehensive review of radial plane technology applied to the hip MRI, and discusses the morphological assessment and localization of hip cartilage and labral lesions utilizing this advanced imaging technique. Introduction: The use of endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided transmural stent placement for pancreatic walled-off necrosis (WON) drainage is widespread. This study retrospectively analyzed imaging parameters predicting the outcomes of WON endoscopic drainage using lumen-apposing metal stents (LAMS). Methods: This study analyzed the data of 115 patients who underwent EUS-guided debridement using LAMS from 2011 to 2015. Pre-intervention CT or MRI was used to analyze the total volume of WON, percentage of debris, multilocularity, and density. Success measures included technical success, the number of endoscopic sessions, the requirement of percutaneous drainage, long-term success, and recurrence. Results: The primary cause of pancreatitis was gallstones (50.4%), followed by alcohol (27.8%), hypertriglyceridemia (11.3%), idiopathic (8.7%), and autoimmune (1.7%). The mean WON size was 674 mL. All patients underwent endoscopic necrosectomy, averaging 3.1 sessions. Stent placement was successful in 96.5% of cases. Procedural complications were observed in 13 patients (11.3%) and 6 patients (5.2%) who needed additional percutaneous drainage. No patients reported recurrent WON posttreatment. Univariate analysis indicated a significant correlation between debris percentage and the need for additional drainage and long-term success (p < 0.001). The number of endoscopic sessions correlated significantly with debris percentage (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Pre-procedural imaging, particularly debris percentage within WON, significantly predicts the number of endoscopic sessions, the need for further percutaneous drainage, and overall long-term success. The defects distribution of ion-implanted SiC is a key to understanding changes in the electronic, optical, and mechanical properties of SiC devices. However, accessing the defect distribution within the sample primarily relies on simulation, yet a number of factors remain unaccounted for in the simulation results, ultimately resulting in numerous inaccuracies. To address this issue, a defect distribution investigation method based on the combination of argon ion etching and deep-ultraviolet (DUV) Raman spectroscopy has been established. The defects at different depths were exposed to the surface by etching, and the crystal quality of the surface layer was assessed using Raman spectra with a 266 nm DUV laser. The spectra for the H+ implanted 4H-SiC showed that the full width at half maximum of the transverse optical mode at 781 cm−1 and the longitudinal optical mode at 965 cm−1 exhibited an increasing and then decreasing trend, approximate to a Gaussian distribution. These results were confirmed with the transmission electron microscopy cross-sectional image and SRIM-2013 simulation. Fibrosis is a pathological process that occurs due to chronic inflammation, leading to the proliferation of fibroblasts and the excessive deposition of extracellular matrix (ECM). The process of long-term fibrosis initiates with tissue hypofunction and progressively culminates in the ultimate manifestation of organ failure. Intestinal fibrosis is a significant complication of Crohn's disease (CD) that can result in persistent luminal narrowing and strictures, which are difficult to reverse. In recent years, there have been significant advances in our understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying intestinal fibrosis in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Significant progress has been achieved in the fields of pathogenesis, diagnosis, and management of intestinal fibrosis in the last few years. A significant amount of research has also been conducted in the field of biomarkers for the prediction or detection of intestinal fibrosis, including novel cross-sectional imaging modalities such as positron emission tomography (PET) and single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). Molecular imaging represents a promising biomedical approach that enables the non-invasive visualization of cellular and subcellular processes. Molecular imaging has the potential to be employed for early detection, disease staging, and prognostication in addition to assessing disease activity and treatment response in IBD. Molecular imaging methods also have a potential role to enabling minimally invasive assessment of intestinal fibrosis. [Display omitted] Electrowetting on conventional dielectrics requires direct fluid-electrode contact to generate strong electric fields at the three-phase contact line to modulate the wetting. Since the electric field alters wetting, the modulation of wetting can be achieved by applying an external electric field through insulated electrodes, preventing the liquid from contacting the electrodes. A simple and efficient method for non-contact between the fluid and the electrode external electric field modulation of fluid wetting was proposed. The switching ability of droplets on microgroove surfaces from Cassie-Baxter to Wenzel wetting state under an external electric field was used to drive and quantify the relationship between wetting, contact angle, and the applied voltage. Applying an external electric field modulates the wetting of deionized water, ionic liquids, and high-viscosity liquids on microgrooves. The wetting degree of liquid can be controlled by adjusting the external voltage parameters. The finite element simulations revealed that the Maxwell force drove this process. The effects of substrate size and liquid properties on wetting behavior were also examined. Post-application cross-sectional imaging showed the formation of a conformal interface, highlighting the relevance of the proposed method in advanced adaptive shape fabrication and microfluidic control, among other applications. Pancreatic cystic neoplasms are lesions comprised of cystic components that show different biological behaviors, epidemiology, clinical manifestations, imaging features, and malignant potential and management. Benign cystic neoplasms include serous cystic neoplasms (SCAs). Other pancreatic cystic lesions have malignant potential, such as intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms and mucinous cystic neoplasms. SCAs can be divided into microcystic (classic appearance), honeycomb, oligocystic/macrocystic, and solid patterns based on imaging appearance. They are usually solitary but may be multiple in von Hippel–Lindau disease, which may depict disseminated involvement. The variable appearances of SCAs can mimic other types of pancreatic cystic lesions, and cross-sectional imaging plays an important role in their differential diagnosis. Endoscopic ultrasonography has helped in improving diagnostic accuracy of pancreatic cystic lesions by guiding tissue sampling (biopsy) or cyst fluid analysis. This study reports that hot pressing a high loading (9.375 mg cm−2; > 5 mAh cm−2) all-solid-state FeS2 composite cathodes at 240 °C and 47 MPa improved initial cycle performance. At 25 °C, a cold-pressed cell delivered negligible capacity whereas a hot-pressed cell delivered 332 mAh g−1 (2.34 mAh cm−2). At 60 °C, a cold-pressed cell delivered 666 mAh g−1 (4.70 mAh cm−2) whereas a hot-pressed cell delivered 782 mAh g−1 (5.52 mAh cm−2). Hot-pressed cathode composites had a 20% porosity whereas cold-pressed cathode composites had a 30% porosity. Increased initial discharge capacity was attributed to better solid–solid interfacial contact between sulfide solid-state electrolyte (SSE) particles and between SSE and FeS2 active material particles. Cell failure occurred upon extended cycling due to the stresses generated by the expansion of lithiated FeS2. Skin and soft tissues are among the most common sites of infections. Infections can involve the superficial epidermis to deep muscles and bones. Most infections spread through contiguous structures, although hematogenous spread can occur in the setting of an immunocompromised state and with atypical infections. While clinical diagnosis of infections is possible, it often lacks specificity, necessitating the use of imaging for confirmation. Cross-sectional imaging with US, CT, and MRI is frequently performed not just for diagnosis, but to delineate the extent of infection and to aid in management. Nonetheless, the imaging features have considerable overlap, and as such, it is essential to integrate imaging features with clinical features for managing soft tissue infections. Radiologists must be aware of the imaging features of different infections and their mimics, as well as the pros and cons of each imaging technique to properly use them for appropriate clinical situations. Autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) is a unique form of chronic pancreatitis with a multifactorial pathogenesis. Historically, it has been classified as type 1 and type 2, according to its clinical and histological features. The diagnosis of AIP is challenging and relies on a combination of clinical, histopathologic, serologic, and imaging characteristics. In the available guidelines, the imaging hallmarks of AIP are based on cross-sectional imaging and cholangiopancreatography retrograde endoscopic findings. Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) is generally used for pancreatic tissue acquisition to rule out pancreatic cancer and diagnose AIP with limited accuracy. Several papers reported the reliability of EUS for providing informative morphologic features of AIP. Nowadays, the improvement in the resolution of EUS conventional images and the development of new ancillary technologies have further increased the diagnostic yield of EUS: contrast-enhanced EUS and EUS elastography are non-invasive and real-time techniques that strongly support the diagnosis and management of pancreatic diseases. In this review article, we will present the role of conventional EUS and ancillary diagnostic techniques in the diagnosis of AIP to support clinicians and endosonographers in managing this condition. Surgical oncology often requires the use of contrast-enhanced cross-sectional imaging preoperatively to characterize solitary tumours and identify sentinel lymph nodes. Intraoperative optical guidance can effectively aid tissue-sparing tumour excision and locate sentinel lymph nodes. Nanotrast-CF800 (CF800) is a novel dual-modality contrast agent, which co-encapsulates iohexol and indocyanine green (ICG) within a liposomal nanoparticle. It was developed for preoperative and intraoperative imaging of solitary tumours and sentinel lymph node mapping and its efficacy has been demonstrated in preclinical animal models (Zheng et al. 2015). The objective of this study is to evaluate the safety profile of CF800 following intravenous administration in healthy dogs. Six research dogs were randomized into two groups. Group 1 received a low dose (1 mL/kg) and group 2 received a high dose (5 mL/kg). Dogs were placed under general anesthesia and a continuous rate infusion of CF800 was administered based on group allocation. Physiologic parameters including heart rate, respiratory rate, direct arterial blood pressure, cardiac output, and temperature were measured at set time points. Plasma concentrations of iohexol, ICG, and histamine were measured at set time points. Dogs underwent whole body computed tomography scans pre-injection, 2-, and 7-days post-injection (p.i.). Contrast enhancement was measured in select organ systems and great vessels at each time point. There were no significant changes in physiologic parameters following IV infusion of CF800 in all dogs. Plasma iohexol and ICG concentrations peaked at 1 day p.i., while histamine concentrations peaked at 30 minutes p.i. Significant contrast enhancement was noted within the liver, heart, aorta, and caudal vena cava on day 2 p.i., which was significantly different compared to baseline. Prolonged contrast retention within the liver was identified. Intravenous administration of CF800 was safe to use in healthy dogs with no significant systemic adverse effects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Sarcopenia is associated with falls, fractures, postoperative complications such as periprosthetic joint infections and dislocations, and early mortality. Although cross-sectional imaging is currently used to diagnose sarcopenia, inexpensive and widely available screening tests are needed. The goal of this study was to investigate whether measurements of thigh muscles made on radiographs can predict psoas muscle area and the presence of sarcopenia as determined on computed tomography (CT) scans. Methods: A retrospective radiographic review was performed to measure thigh muscle area in the coronal and sagittal planes using the differential in soft-tissue attenuation. Psoas muscle area on CT at L3 and L4 served as the gold standard for the diagnosis of sarcopenia. The correlation between thigh muscle and psoas muscle areas was determined, and multivariable models were developed to identify predictors of psoas muscle area and sarcopenia. Results: Four hundred and fourteen patients (252 male, 162 female) were identified. Seventy-six (18.4%) of the patients had an L4 psoas muscle area below the sex-specific cutoff value for sarcopenia. Patients with sarcopenia on abdominal CT had significantly smaller thigh muscle measurements on all radiographic views. The mean and standard deviation of the thigh muscle measurements were determined for the entire cohort and for patients with sarcopenia, as well as for adults aged 18 to 40 years without sarcopenia to provide normative reference values. The intraclass correlation coefficients were >0.8 for all radiographic measurements. The anteroposterior-view measurement of thigh muscle width and lateral-view measurement of quadriceps height were identified as independent predictors of both psoas muscle area and sarcopenia. Conclusions: Measurements of thigh muscle size made on radiographs can predict both psoas muscle area and sarcopenia. These measurements are a reliable and readily available screening tool to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of sarcopenia in the orthopaedic population. Level of Evidence: Prognostic Level III. Introduction/aim: Radiological imaging is crucial in modern clinical practice and requires thorough and early training. An understanding of cross-sectional imaging is essential for effective interpretation of such imaging. This study examines the extent to which completing an undergraduate ultrasound course has positive effects on the development of visual-spatial ability, knowledge of anatomical spatial relationships, understanding of radiological cross-sectional images, and theoretical ultrasound competencies. Material and methods: This prospective observational study was conducted at a medical school with 3rd year medical students as part of a voluntary extracurricular ultrasound course. The participants completed evaluations (7-level Likert response formats and dichotomous questions "yes/no") and theoretical tests at two time points (T1 = pre course; T2 = post course) to measure their subjective and objective cross-sectional imaging skills competencies. A questionnaire on baseline values and previous experience identified potential influencing factors. Results: A total of 141 participants were included in the study. Most participants had no previous general knowledge of ultrasound diagnostics (83%), had not yet performed a practical ultrasound examination (87%), and had not attended any courses on sonography (95%). Significant subjective and objective improvements in competencies were observed after the course, particularly in the subjective sub-area of "knowledge of anatomical spatial relationships" (p = 0.009). Similarly, participants showed improvements in the objective sub-areas of "theoretical ultrasound competencies" (p < 0.001), "radiological cross-section understanding and knowledge of anatomical spatial relationships in the abdomen" (p < 0.001), "visual-spatial ability in radiological cross-section images" (p < 0.001), and "visual-spatial ability" (p = 0.020). Conclusion: Ultrasound training courses can enhance the development of visual-spatial ability, knowledge of anatomical spatial relationships, radiological cross-sectional image understanding, and theoretical ultrasound competencies. Percutaneous endoscopy of the biliary system (cholangioscopy) and gallbladder (cholecystoscopy) has significantly impacted diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to many diseases in interventional radiology, overcoming previous challenges related to scope size and rigidity. The current endoscopes offer enhanced maneuverability within narrow tubular structures such as bile ducts. Before endoscopy, reliance on 2D imaging modalities limited real-time visualization during percutaneous procedures. Percutaneous endoscopy provides 3D perspectives, enabling a better appreciation of normal structures, targeted biopsy of lesions, and accurate deployment of therapeutic interventions. Background: The detection of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) has been rising due to the enhanced utilization of cross-sectional imaging and incidentally discovered lesions with adverse pathology demonstrate potential for metastasis. The purpose of our study was to determine the clinical and multiparametric dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (CEMRI) associated independent predictors of adverse pathology for cT1/2 RCC and develop the predictive model. Methods: We recruited 105 cT1/2 RCC patients between 2018 and 2022, all of whom underwent preoperative CEMRI and had complete clinicopathological data. Adverse pathology was defined as RCC patients with nuclear grade III-IV; pT3a upstage; type II papillary RCC, collecting duct or renal medullary carcinoma, unclassified RCC; sarcomatoid/rhabdoid features. The qualitative and quantitative CEMRI parameters were independently reviewed by two radiologists. Univariate and multivariate binary logistic regression analyses were utilized to determine the independent predictors of adverse pathology for cT1/2 RCC and construct the predictive model. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, confusion matrix, calibration plot, and decision curve analysis (DCA) were conducted to compare the diagnostic performance of different predictive models. The individual risk scores and linear predicted probabilities were calculated for risk stratification, and the Kaplan–Meier curve and log-rank tests were used for survival analysis. Results: Overall, 45 patients were pathologically confirmed as RCC with adverse pathology. Clinical characteristics, including gender, and CEMRI parameters, including RENAL score, tumor margin irregularity, necrosis, and tumor apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) value were identified as independent predictors of adverse pathology for cT1/2 RCC. The clinical-CEMRI predictive model yielded an area under the curve (AUC) of the ROC curve of 0.907, which outperformed the clinical model or CEMRI signature model alone. Good calibration, better clinical usefulness, excellent risk stratification ability of adverse pathology and prognosis were also achieved for the clinical-CEMRI predictive model. Conclusions: The proposed clinical-CEMRI predictive model offers the potential for preoperative prediction of adverse pathology for cT1/2 RCC. With the ability to forecast adverse pathology, the predictive model could significantly benefit patients and clinicians alike by providing enhanced guidance for treatment planning and decision-making. Purpose: This study aims to highlight presentations, acute findings and imaging phenotypes of patients presenting to the emergency department (ED) within 30 days of a transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). Methods: A retrospective review of patients diagnosed with aortic valve disease who underwent a TAVR between Jan 2015 and Nov 2021 at a large academic medical center was completed. From an initial 1271 patients, 146 were included based on their presentation to the ED within 30 days post-TAVR procedure. Patient data, including ED presentation details and imaging results, were recorded and de-identified. Results: Of the 146 post-TAVR patients, there were 168 ED visits within 30 days. The median time to ED after TAVR was 12 days. Respiratory symptoms were the most common complaint (27%). Neurological (23%) and cardiovascular symptoms (18%) followed. Cross-sectional imaging was conducted 250 times across visits, with an average of 1.7 scans per patient. CTs were most frequently used, followed by ultrasounds, especially echocardiograms and duplex extremity vasculature ultrasounds. 30.1% of patients had acute findings from imaging. Specific findings included heart failure (5.5%), access site complications (5.5%), pneumonia (5.5%), intracranial pathologies (3.4% for strokes and 0.7% for hematoma), and pleural effusion (3.4%). Echocardiograms and CTA chest were most associated with significant acute findings. Conclusion: Our study highlights the vital role of early and accurate imaging in post-TAVR patients within 30 days post-procedure. As transcatheter approaches rise in popularity, emergency radiologists become instrumental in diagnosing common post-procedural presentations. Due to the rising demand in cross-sectional thoracic imaging, anterior mediastinal lesions are being identified with increasing frequency. Following iterative and multidisciplinary discussions, the BTOG Thymic Malignancies Special Interest Group have developed an algorithm to standardise the diagnostic approach for these relatively uncommon but important conditions which span from benign (thymic remnant, thymic hyperplasia and thymic cysts) to suspected localised thymomas to suspected more aggressive malignancy (thymic carcinoma, lymphoma and germ cell tumours). For each condition, we provide a brief description, an overview of the key radiological findings and a description of the proposed algorithm including the rationale behind the recommendations. We also highlight the role of magnetic resonance (MR) imaging for the characterisation of anterior mediastinal masses in specific indications when the necessary local resources and expertise exist. In addition, we hope this provides the rationale for service development in MR of the anterior mediastinum where current resource and expertise requires development. Through this standardised pathway, we hope to drive improvements in patient care by rationalising surveillance schedules, avoiding unnecessary resections of benign entities with their associated morbidity and optimising the diagnostic work-up prior to the appropriate treatment of anterior mediastinal malignancies. • Incidental anterior mediastinal lesions are rare but increasingly identified. • Developing mediastinal MRI expertise is encouraged for optimal characterisation. • A standardised imaging pathway should lead to improvements in patient care. This article discusses the importance of using radiographs, or X-rays, in diagnosing and monitoring metaphyseal pathologies of the knee joint in pediatric patients. The authors evaluated 25 pediatric knee radiographs over a two-year period and grouped the metaphyseal abnormalities into different categories based on their characteristics. They found that radiographs can help in making a preliminary diagnosis and monitoring the response to therapy in many cases, eliminating the need for further evaluation. However, in some cases, additional evaluation may be necessary. The article emphasizes the role of radiography in a time when radiologists are increasingly relying on cross-sectional imaging. Purpose: Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) is a rare condition in children, but if diagnosed needs to be promptly treated to avoid clinical sequalae. The main purpose of this paper was to test our clinical experience with a cohort of normocephalic children with craniosynostosis who do not present in the routine way to craniofacial services, due to the normal head shape and age, diagnosed with IIH. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed all children who were referred to neurosurgery from 2012 to 2022 for management of IIH on our prospectively kept database. We determined what treatments were offered and if there was an associated craniosynostosis. Results: In total, 19 children were identified with an average age at referral of 11.5 years (st dev 4.0 years) with 11 male and 8 female. The most common presenting symptoms and signs were papilloedema (18/19), headaches (15/19), visual deterioration (9/19), nausea and vomiting (7/19) and diplopia (4/19). Five out of 19 children (26.3%) had a sagittal suture fused that was not identified at the time of treatment and all children were normocephalic. Conclusion: There is a cohort of children with IIH who will have concomitant craniosynostosis and ideally would benefit from cranial vault expansion as primary surgery rather than cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) diversion. We suggest all children with IIH requiring neurosurgical intervention have cross-sectional imaging to look for occult craniosynostosis prior to intervention. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Diabetes mellitus presents a global health challenge characterized by dysregulated glucose metabolism and insulin resistance. Pancreas dysfunction contributes to the development and progression of diabetes. Cross-sectional imaging modalities have provided new insight into the structural and functional alterations of the pancreas in individuals with diabetes. This review summarizes MRI and CT studies that characterize pancreas alterations in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes and discusses future applications of these techniques. Key points: Cross-sectional imaging can detect alterations to the pancreas accompanying, and possibly presaging, the development of both type 1 diabetes (T1D) and type 2 diabetes (T2D). The smaller pancreas found in individuals with diabetes implicates exocrine involvement in the disease, as it exceeds the 1–2% of the pancreas composed of hormone-producing endocrine tissue. Pancreas fat content is associated with insulin resistance and is higher in individuals with T2D. Vascular rings are arterial malformations that lead to the compression of the trachea and/or esophagus. While "tight" rings often produce symptoms and require surgery, "loose" rings rarely produce symptoms. Given advances in fetal echocardiography, this diagnosis is now more often made prenatally. This poses a new conundrum in the management of asymptomatic patients, leading to practice variation and creating a target for clinical system improvement. Hence, we conducted this survey aiming to demonstrate the practice variation existing in current evaluation and management of these patients. An anonymous web-based survey was distributed to several listservs for pediatric cardiologists and pediatric cardiothoracic surgeons. Survey questions targeted respondent practice characteristics, testing obtained, and indications for testing or surgical referral. In total 61 responses were received, predominantly from pediatric cardiologists (95%) in the United States (97%). About 60% of clinicians reported frequently diagnosing patients with vascular rings by fetal echocardiogram, with only about 20% diagnosing them frequently on evaluation of symptoms. Computed tomography angiography and echocardiogram were the most common imaging modalities employed. Most clinicians obtained cross-sectional imaging at the time of diagnosis and referred to surgery once patients had at least occasional symptoms. Respondents demonstrated a low degree of agreement (Krippendorf's alpha 0.48). Few statistically significant patterns were identified between respondents based on their practice characteristics. This study identified significant variation between clinicians regarding the evaluation and management of vascular rings. Thyroid cancer is the most common head and neck cancer (HNC) in the world. In this article, we comprehensively cover baseline, posttreatment, and follow-up imaging recommendations for thyroid carcinomas along with the eighth edition of the tumor, node, metastasis (TNM) staging system proposed by the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) and the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). We include characterization and risk stratification of thyroid nodules on ultrasound (US) proposed by various international bodies. Management guidelines (depending upon the type of thyroid carcinoma) based on the international consensus recommendations (mainly by the American Thyroid Association) are also extensively covered in this article, including the role of a radioiodine scan. The management of recurrent disease is also briefly elucidated in this article. In addition, we cover the risk factors and etiopathogenesis of thyroid carcinoma along with the non-imaging diagnostic workup essential for thyroid carcinoma management, including the significance of genetic mutations. US is the diagnostic imaging modality of choice, with US-guided fine needle aspiration (FNA) being the procedure of choice for tissue diagnosis. The roles of computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/CT (FDG-PET/CT) in thyroid carcinoma staging are also specified. Pancreatic cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Pancreatic lesions consist of both neoplastic and non-neoplastic lesions and often pose a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge due to similar clinical and radiological features. In recent years, pancreatic lesions have been discovered more frequently as incidental findings due to the increased utilization and widespread availability of abdominal cross-sectional imaging. Therefore, it becomes imperative to establish an early and appropriate diagnosis with meticulous differentiation in an attempt to balance unnecessary treatment of benign pancreatic lesions and missing the opportunity for early intervention in malignant lesions. Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) has become an important diagnostic modality for the identification and risk stratification of pancreatic lesions due to its ability to provide detailed imaging and acquisition of tissue samples for analysis with the help of fine-needle aspiration/biopsy. The recent development of EUS-based technology, including contrast-enhanced endoscopic ultrasound, real-time elastography–endoscopic ultrasound, miniature probe ultrasound, confocal laser endomicroscopy, and the application of artificial intelligence has significantly augmented the diagnostic accuracy of EUS as it enables better evaluation of the number, location, dimension, wall thickness, and contents of these lesions. This article provides a comprehensive overview of the role of the different types of EUS available for the diagnosis and differentiation of pancreatic cancer from other pancreatic lesions while discussing their key strengths and important limitations. Given that mobile digital imaging analyses (DIA) are equipped to automate body composition and subsequently alter one's appearance at a given objective body fat percent (BF%), the purpose of this study was to validate the use of this tool for assessments of body image. Participants (f = 134, m = 89) from two separate centers underwent body composition scans using a mobile DIA and completed the Multidimensional Body Self-Relations Questionnaire–Appearance Scale (MBSRQ-AS). Using a DIA-generated avatar, participants altered their figure so that it represented their perceived body, ideal body, and what a partner would find attractive. Distortion was calculated as perceived minus actual BF% and dissatisfaction was calculated as either ideal or partner minus perceived BF%. The total sample and females (p < 0.050), but not males, had significantly lower perceived BF% compared to their actual. Ideal and partner BF% was significantly lower than the perceived BF% for all groups (all p < 0.050). Ideal and partner BF% mean differences (MD) from perceived were positively associated with appearance evaluation (AE) and body area satisfaction (BAS) and negatively associated with overweight preoccupation and self-classified weight for the total sample (all p < 0.050). Perceived MD demonstrated negative associations with AE and BAS (p < 0.050), but only for females when separated by sex. This work aims to calculate size-specific dose estimates (SSDE) and establish the relationship between water equivalent diameter (Dw) values and SSDE in images of abdominal CT examinations undergone by 30 adult patients. These patients had a mean age of 51 years, a mean height of 164 cm, and a mean weight of 62.71 kg. The water equivalent diameters (Dw) measured 25.30 cm on average, with mean volumetric computed tomography dose index (CTDIvol) doses of 7.95 mGy and a mean SSDE of 11.31 mGy. Images were retrospectively collected using a Hitachi Supria 16-slice CT scanner, and Dw and SSDE values were calculated based on lateral and anteroposterior (LAT + AP) measurements of cross-sectional images from each CT examination. Dw was calculated from ED, and their close correspondence allowed for interchangeable use, following AAPM guidelines. The calculated doses (SSDE) were significantly higher than the doses displayed by the scanner (CTDI). Furthermore, a strong correlation (R2 = 0.63) was observed between SSDE and Dw. Purpose: Awareness of normative values of extra orbital structures would provide useful information to interpret the radiological images better and use them for diagnostic purposes. This study aimed to reveal the average values of major extraocular structures measured on magnetic resonance images. Methods: In this retrospective cross-sectional study, magnetic resonance (MR) images of 256 orbits of 128 patients were re-interpreted regarding the measurements of major orbital structures. Extraocular muscles, superior ophthalmic vein, and optic nerve-sheath complex were measured on orbital MR images of these patients. The data distributions were presented by box-plot analyses for each parameter, and the measurement results were analyzed regarding gender and age groups. Results: Lateral rectus muscle thickness (LR), inferior rectus muscle thickness (IR), globe position (GP), and interzygomatic line (IZL) values were higher in the male group than in the female group (p values were < 0.001, 0.003, 0.020, and < 0.001 respectively). LR, the thickness of the superior group muscles (SUP GR), IR, superior oblique muscle thickness (SOBL), and the thickness of optic nerve-sheath complex (ON) values indicated a significant relationship between age groups. There was a significant, positive, and low-level correlation between age and LR, SUP GR, and IR values (p values were < 0.001, 0.001, and < 0.001, respectively). Conclusion: This study provides quantitative data on normative values of orbital structures with gender and age group comparisons. Primary pediatric lung tumors are uncommon and have many overlapping clinical and imaging features. In contrast to adult lung tumors, these rare pediatric neoplasms have a relatively broad histologic spectrum. Informed by a single-institution 13-year retrospective record review, we present an overview of the most common primary pediatric lung neoplasms, with a focus on the role of positron emission tomography (PET), specifically 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET and 68Ga-DOTATATE PET, in the management of primary pediatric lung tumors. In addition to characteristic conventional radiographic and cross-sectional imaging findings, knowledge of patient age, underlying cancer predisposition syndromes, and PET imaging features may help narrow the differential. While metastases from other primary malignancies remain the most commonly encountered pediatric lung malignancy, the examples presented in this pictorial essay highlight many of the important conventional radiologic and PET imaging features of primary pediatric lung malignancies. The superior extensor ankle retinaculum (SEAR), a transversely fascial thickening positioned above the tibia–talar joint, serves as a crucial anatomical structure in ankle stability. The purpose of this study was to measure and compare by ultrasound (US) imaging the bilateral thickness and echogenicity of SEAR in football players with previous multiple ankle sprains (group 1) and healthy volunteers (group 2). A cross-sectional study was performed using ultrasound imaging to measure longitudinal and transversal axes using a new protocol in a sample of 50 subjects: 25 football players with previous multiple ankle sprains and 25 healthy subjects. The findings for SEAR thickness revealed statistically significant differences for both axes (p = 0.0011 and p = 0.0032) between the healthy side and the previously sprained side, and with the corresponding side of group 2 (p = 0.003 and p = 0.004). Moreover, in group 1, regarding the ROI echogenicity, a statistically significant difference was found between the sides (p = 0.0378). These findings suggest that the football players with previous ankle sprains showed a thicker and inhomogeneous SEAR on the sprain side, unveiling a remodeling of this structure compared to the other side and to the healthy volunteers. Peritoneal inclusion cysts (PICs) are a rare and benign condition of uncertain pathogenesis. The fluid-filled, mesothelial-lined cysts manifest within the abdominopelvic cavity. This case report details an unusual occurrence of a 97 mm PIC- presenting as an umbilical hernia- in a 26-year-old male patient with no prior surgical history. Following pre-operative cross-sectional imaging, this was managed through open excision without complication. A systematic review of the literature highlighted 30 previous cases [26F, 4M] with a mean age of 34 years (std ±15.4) and a median diameter of 93 mm [IQR, 109 mm]. A total of 53% (n = 16) of cases had a history of previous abdominal surgery. Surgical excision is safe and laparoscopic modality should be considered (<1% recurrence). There is a diverse group of non-gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST), mesenchymal neoplasms of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract that demonstrate characteristic pathology and histogenesis as well as variable imaging findings and biological behavior. Recent advancements in tumor genetics have unveiled specific abnormalities associated with certain tumors, influencing their molecular pathogenesis, biology, response to treatment, and prognosis. Notably, giant fibrovascular polyps of the esophagus, identified through MDM2 gene amplifications, are now classified as liposarcomas. Some tumors exhibit distinctive patterns of disease distribution. Glomus tumors and plexiform fibromyxomas exhibit a pronounced affinity for the gastric antrum. In contrast, smooth muscle tumors within the GI tract are predominantly found in the esophagus and colorectum, surpassing the incidence of GISTs in these locations. Surgical resection suffices for symptomatic benign tumors; multimodality treatment may be necessary for frank sarcomas. This article aims to elucidate the cross-sectional imaging findings associated with a wide spectrum of these tumors, providing insights that align with their histopathological features.
