The mF2C project is building an open, secure and decentralized management platform for coordinating resource sharing between connected devices in the fog-to-cloud (F2C) environment. Safeguarding information security and privacy in mF2C is a considerable challenge given the heterogeneous and autonomous nature of devices spanning the F2C spectrum. The recently introduced General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) raised the stake further by defining stringent security and privacy requirements on the processing of personal information. IaaS and PaaS providers falling in scope must demonstrate that they have implemented reasonable security mechanisms to ensure compliance or face significant financial penalties. In this paper, we present a prototype JAVA-based security library that addresses some of the data security and privacy requirements of mF2C and GDPR. The prototype employs a PKI-based trust model to facilitate authentication and authorization. It uses policy to ensure data privacy and cryptography to deliver data confidentiality, integrity and non-repudiation. We also outline plans to enhance the mF2C security infrastructure with data protection functionalities from the security library and to leverage blockchain technology to augment mF2C security and data protection capabilities.

The effective preservation of both current and historical scientific data will underpin a multitude of ecological, economic and political decisions that shape the future of our society. The SCIDIP-ES project addresses the long-term preservation of the knowledge encoded in scientific data by providing preservation e- infrastructure services which support the persistent storage, access and management needs. Using exemplars from the Earth Science domain we highlight the key preservation challenges and barriers to be overcome by the SCIDIP-ES infrastructure. SCIDIP-ES augments existing science data e-infrastructures by adding specific services and toolkits which implement core preservation concepts, thus guaranteeing the long-term access and exploitation of data assets across and beyond their designated communities.

This document describes the components, the methodologies and the tools underlying the Data Sharing Agreement (DSA) infrastructure used in the Consequence project. DSAs describe the regulations for managing shared data among multiple participants in several specific domains and contexts. The DSA infrastructure is thus devoted to all the operations underpinning these agreements such as creation, (cooperative) authoring/editing, analysis, manipulation and translation. We envisage in particular that the DSA infrastructure should be at least able to take natural language description of DSAs, provide tools for collaborative editing and then provide mechanisms to translate them into formal descriptions amenable of rigorous analysis and prediction tools. Eventually, we need also components for translating such formal descriptions into directly enforceable policies at system level so as to be appropriately managed in other components being developed for the Consequence framework.
