Poucos são os estudos ornitológicos realizados na Serra Geral, região central do Brasil e relevante remanescente do bioma Cerrado. Desta forma, apresentamos uma listagem preliminar da avifauna registrada em oito localidades inventariadas no período de setembro 2019 e agosto de 2020 na interface vale, encosta e chapada da Serra Geral, entre os estados de Goiás, Bahia e Tocantins. Além disso, destacamos o potencial papel das brigadas de incêndios na descoberta de registros inéditos da biodiversidade. Foram registradas 117 espécies de aves, sendo 10 endêmicas do bioma Cerrado, quatro ameaçadas de extinção em âmbito nacional e seis ameaçadas globalmente. A listagem apresentada demonstra que a Serra Geral é marcada pelo predomínio de aves típicas das formações campestres do Cerrado. Ademais, as prospecções permitiram a realização de registros extremamente notáveis: o terceiro registro de Knipolegus nigerrimus para estado do Tocantins e os registros inéditos de Synallaxis spixi para Goiás e de Micropygia schomburgkii para Bahia, este último efetuado pela brigada de incêndio durante combate aos incêndios florestais. Este estudo preenche, ainda que preliminarmente, lacuna de conhecimento acerca da avifauna da Serra Geral, demonstrando o papel desta região na conservação de espécies tipicamente campestres e ameaçadas de extinção do Cerrado.

We present the first detailed inventory of the lizard fauna of Alto Sertão region, west of Sergipe state, based on three field expeditions carried out by the authors and specimens deposited at the Herpetological Collection of Universidade Federal de Sergipe. The three inventories were carried out between 2010 and 2016, in the municipalities of Canindé de São Francisco, Poço Redondo, Monte Alegre de Sergipe, Nossa Senhora da Glória, and Porto da Folha. In total, we sampled 9,485 lizards of 19 species (10 families) of which 10 are new records for the study area. The most abundant species were Ameivula ocellifera, Tropidurus hispidus and T. semitaeniatus. Thirteen species were considered as widely distributed in Caatinga, five presented a relictual distribution and one was exotic. We suggest that future research focus mainly on non-sampled areas and should prioritize the municipalities of Gararu, Nossa Senhora da Glória and Nossa Senhora de Lourdes since they are localities with little or no sampling records. Resumo Apresentamos o primeiro inventário detalhado da fauna de lagartos da região do Alto Sertão sergipano, nordeste do Brasil, a partir de três expedições de campo realizadas pelos autores e exemplares depositados na Coleção Herpetológica da Universidade Federal de Sergipe. Os três inventários foram realizados entre 2010 e 2016, nos municípios de Canindé de São Francisco, Poço Redondo, Monte Alegre de Sergipe, Nossa Senhora da Glória e Porto da Folha. No total, foram amostrados 9.487 lagartos de 19 espécies (10 famílias), das quais 10 são novos registros para a área de estudo. As espécies mais abundantes foram Ameivula ocellifera, Tropidurus hispidus e T. semitaeniatus. Treze espécies foram consideradas com ampla distribuição na Caatinga, cinco apresentaram distribuição relictual e uma exótica. Sugerimos que futuras pesquisas se concentrem principalmente em áreas não amostradas e priorizem os municípios de Gararu, Nossa Senhora da Glória e Nossa Senhora de Lourdes por se tratarem de localidades com pouca ou nenhuma amostragem.

Incluye contenido parcial de los autores Abstract.Mammalian carnivores are considered a key group in maintaining ecologicalhealth and can indicate potential ecological integrity in landscapes where they occur. Carni-vores also hold high conservation value and their habitat requirements can guide managementand conservation plans. The order Carnivora has 84 species from 8 families in the Neotropicalregion: Canidae; Felidae; Mephitidae; Mustelidae; Otariidae; Phocidae; Procyonidae; andUrsidae. Herein, we include published and unpublished data on native terrestrial Neotropicalcarnivores (Canidae; Felidae; Mephitidae; Mustelidae; Procyonidae; and Ursidae). NEOTRO-PICAL CARNIVORES is a publicly available data set that includes 99,605 data entries from35,511 unique georeferenced coordinates. Detection/non-detection and quantitative data wereobtained from 1818 to 2018 by researchers, governmental agencies, non-governmental organi-zations, and private consultants. Data were collected using several methods including cameratrapping, museum collections, roadkill, line transect, and opportunistic records. Literature(peer-reviewed and grey literature) from Portuguese, Spanish and English were incorporated inthis compilation. Most of the data set consists of detection data entries (n=79,343; 79.7%) butalso includes non-detection data (n=20,262; 20.3%). Of those, 43.3% also include count data(n=43,151). The information available in NEOTROPICAL CARNIVORES will contribute tomacroecological, ecological, and conservation questions in multiple spatio-temporal perspec-tives. As carnivores play key roles in trophic interactions, a better understanding of their distri-bution and habitat requirements are essential to establish conservation management plans andsafeguard the future ecological health of Neotropical ecosystems. Our data paper, combinedwith other large-scale data sets, has great potential to clarify species distribution and relatedecological processes within the Neotropics. There are no copyright restrictions and no restric-tion for using data from this data paper, as long as the data paper is cited as the source of theinformation used. We also request that users inform us of how they intend to use the data.

The degree of habitat specificity determines the distinctive ways that birds respond to land-use and climate change. Information on habitat-use, movement potential and sensitivity to human disturbance can promote reliable predictions on species response to spatial and temporal global changes. Here, we made an extensive review about habitat-use of 52 birds with distribution mainly in the Cerrado domain, a world hotspot with alarming climate change and land-use projections. We described habitat-use, classified habitats into three categories (grasslands, savannahs, and forests), inferred movement potential and sensitivity to human disturbance from records in anthropogenic matrices and identified knowledge gaps. More than one-half of the species surveyed predominantly use only one major natural habitat category, mostly forests, or are highly associated to microhabitats or to specific habitat features (62%, n = 32). Grasslands were the most used habitat (n = 32). Most species apparently will encounter difficulties to move through the landscape (27% and 36% of the species have low and medium movement potential, respectively) and are highly sensitive to human disturbance (48%). Furthermore, a considerable low number of species was frequently recorded in non-natural habitats and considered of low sensitivity (n = 6). Our results offer a wide understanding of relevant habitats and microhabitats for Cerrado birds and can add more reality to future model estimates, enhancing success of current and future conservation initiatives.

The forms of spatial and temporal resources use of two sympatric species of Ameivula were studied in an Atlantic Forest-Caatinga ecotone located in Parque Nacional Serra de Itabaiana, Sergipe, Brazil. The study was conducted between February 2008 and January 2009. The method used was an active search for a limited time, from 06:00 am to 06:00 pm. The species were observed during all months sampled, and A. ocellifera presented the highest number of sightings. Despite the high temporal niche overlap observed ( O jk = 0.90), A. ocellifera and A. abaetensis differed regarding the times of higher activity. A. ocellifera was most seen (≥ 10%) between 08:00 am and 01:00 pm, and A. abaetensis from 09:00 am to 01:00 pm. Both species were found more frequently on sunny days, with similar patterns of activity at the time of sighting, being usually observed walking on sand ( A. ocellifera ) or leaves near the base of shrubs ( A. abaetensis ). The behaviors demonstrated by both species of Ameivula in response to the approach of the observer were different and were related to the level of exposure along with the vulnerability to predation. The coexistence of A. ocellifera and A. abaetensis in the study area is possibly related to minor differences in the use pattern of temporal and spatial resources by both species, and these differences are probably due to the current ecological interactions. The results obtained in this study contribute to the understanding of the natural history and ecology of the species of Ameivula and mainly generate useful information for the conservation of these species in habitats transitional of Atlantic Forest-Caatinga. USO DOS RECURSOS POR DUAS ESPECIES SIMPATRICAS DE Ameivula (SQUAMATA: TEIIDAE) EM UM ECOTONO DE MATA ATLÂNTICA-CAATINGA As formas de utilizacao dos recursos espaciais e temporais por duas especies simpatricas de Ameivula foram estudadas em um ecotono de Mata Atlântica e Caatinga, situado no Parque Nacional Serra de Itabaiana, Sergipe, Brasil. O estudo foi desenvolvido entre fevereiro de 2008 e janeiro de 2009. O metodo adotado foi o de busca ativa limitado por tempo, sendo utilizado o periodo das 06:00 as 18:00 h. As duas especies foram verificadas ao longo de todos os meses de coleta, sendo A. ocellifera a com maior numero de registros. Apesar da alta sobreposicao de nicho temporal observada ( O jk = 0,90), A. ocellifera e A. abaetensis diferiram em relacao aos horarios de maior atividade. A. ocellifera foi avistado com maiores frequencias (≥10 %) entre 08:00 e 13:00 h, enquanto que A. abaetensis , entre as 09:00 as 13:00 h. As duas especies foram mais frequentes em dias ensolarados, com padroes similares de atividade no momento do avistamento, tendo as mesmas sido verificadas, em geral, andando sobre areia ( A. ocellifera ) ou folhas proximas a base de arbustos ( A. abaetensis ). Os comportamentos adotados pelas duas especies de Ameivula em resposta a aproximacao do observador foram diferenciados e estiveram relacionados ao grau de exposicao e, consequentemente, de vulnerabilidade a predacao. A coexistencia de A. ocellifera e A. abaetensis na area de estudo esta possivelmente relacionada a pequenas divergencias no padrao de uso de recursos temporais e espaciais pelas duas especies, sendo provavelmente essas diferencas resultantes de interacoes ecologicas atuais. Os dados obtidos neste estudo contribuem para o conhecimento sobre a historia natural e ecologia das especies de Ameivula e, principalmente, geram informacoes uteis para a conservacao destas especies em habitats de transicao Mata Atlântica-Caatinga. El metodo adoptado fue la busqueda activa con control de tiempo, en el periodo de las 06:00-18:00 horas. Se observo que la especie con mas registros fue A. ocellifera . A pesar del alto solapamiento de nicho temporal observado ( O jk = 0,90), A. ocellifera y A. abaetensis difirieron en relacion con los momentos de mayor actividad. A. ocellifera se observo con mayor frecuencia (≥ 10 %) 08:00-13:00, mientras que A. abaetensis de 09:00 a 13:00 horas. Ambas especies fueron mas frecuentes en los dias soleados, con patrones similares de actividad en el momento de la observacion, fueron vistas por lo general caminando sobre la arena ( A. ocellifera ) o en las hojas cerca de la base de arbustos ( A. abaetensis ). Conductas adoptadas por las dos especies Ameivula en respuesta al enfoque del observador eran diferentes y estaban relacionados con el grado de exposicion de la vulnerabilidad a la depredacion. La coexistencia de A. ocellifera y A. abaetensis en el area de estudio se relaciona posiblemente con pequenas diferencias en el patron de tiempo de uso de los recursos y el espacio de las dos especies, estas diferencias son probablemente el resultado de las interacciones ecologicas actuales. Los resultados obtenidos en este estudio contribuyen a la comprension de la historia natural y ecologia de las especies de Ameivula y generan principalmente informacion util para la conservacion de estas especies en habitats de transicion de la Mata Atlantica-Caatinga

The genus Physalaemus is distributed from north to south in South America, east at Andes. Physalaemus cicada, belongs to the Physalaemus cuvieri group, is widely distributed and is usually found in the Caatinga calling in lentic and/or temporary water bodies. Herein, we present the first records of Physalaemus cicada for the state of Sergipe, corresponding to two localities (Serra da Guia and Monumento Natural Grota do Angico) in the municipality of Poço Redondo.

Aspectos da ecologia de Leptodactylus mystacinus e Leptodactylus fuscus foram investigados em uma área de Cerrado do Brasil Central. O estudo incluiu o uso do microhábitat, padrões de atividade, dieta e morfometria. As observações foram conduzidas entre abril de 2006 a fevereiro de 2007. As espécies são sexualmente dimórficas - fêmeas maiores que os machos - e o tamanho do corpo em L. mystacinus é maior do que o de L. fuscus. Ambas as espécies preferiram a superfície do solo (microhábitat) de hábitats brejosos com vegetação herbácea próximos a corpos lênticos de água. Leptodactylus mystacinus foi mais observado em Outubro e Novembro (20:00-20:59 e 23:00-23:59 horas) e L. fuscus em Novembro e Outubro das 19:00 às 20:59 horas. A dieta destas populações foi baseada em Arthropoda, primariamente Coleoptera, a qual foi a mais importante ordem (IVI). Diferenças nas proporções volumétricas das categorias de presas utilizadas, e nos períodos em que são mais observadas, provavelmente sejam os fatores que mais contribuem para a coexistência das duas espécies na área. Diferenças intersexuais na dieta foram observadas para estas espécies. Estas diferenças estão provavelmente associadas à alocação diferencial de recursos para a produção de gametas ou diferenças ocasionais no uso do espaço pelos dois sexos._________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT:Aspects of the ecology of Leptodactylus mystacinus and Leptodactylus fuscus were investigated in an area of the Cerrado of Central Brazil. The study included use of microhabitat, activity patterns, diet and, morphometry. Observations were conducted between April, 2006, and February, 2007. The species are sexually dimorphic - females larger than males - and body size in L. mystacinus is larger than that of L. fuscus. Both species preferred the ground surface (microhabitat) of wetland habitats with herbaceous vegetation close to lentic water bodies. Leptodactylus mystacinus was observed most often in October and November (8:00-8:59PM and 11:00-11:59 PM), and L. fuscus in November and October between 7:00 PM and 8:59 PM. The diet of both populations was based on Arthropoda, primarily Coleoptera, which was the most important order (IVI). Differences in the volumetric proportions of the categories of then preys used, and in the periods when they were most observed, are probably the factors that contribute the most to the coexistence of both species in the area. Intersexual differences in the diet were observed in both species. These differences were probably associated with the differential allocation of resources to the production of gametes or occasional differences in the use of space by the two sexes.

Aspectos da ecologia e da história natural de Phyllomedusa azurea foram estudados em uma área de cerrado do Brasil Central, entre abril de 2006 e fevereiro de 2007. As observações foram realizadas entre as 18:00 e 5:00 h. Os aspectos investigados são referentes aos nichos espacial, temporal e trófico, morfometria e reprodução. A maioria dos animais vocalizou em locais com predominância do estrato herbáceo e de dossel aberto. Os principais substratos utilizados foram arbustos e árvores. Com relação às alturas de empoleiramento, os animais foram encontrados principalmente em locais entre 0,50 e 1,00 m de altura. As amplitudes de nicho espacial (substrato e altura de empoleiramento) foram respectivamente 2,91 e 3,83. A maioria dos animais foi encontrada próxima a corpos d'água lênticos, normalmente até 0,50 m. É possível que essas características estejam primariamente relacionadas com a filogenia do gênero e secundariamente às necessidades particulares da espécie e à disponibilidade local de recursos. Os arbustos e árvores utilizados pela espécie servem como sítios de vocalização e ovoposição. Os espécimes de Phyllomedusa azurea foram localizados principalmente entre às 20:00 e 21:00 h. A largura de nicho temporal estimada (horário de atividade) foi de 4,68. Padrão reprodutivo prolongado foi também observado, predominando nos meses de maior temperatura e umidade (setembro a fevereiro). A dieta constituiu-se de 11 itens, sendo que o item mais importante para as fêmeas foi Orthoptera (IVI = 63) e para os machos Araneae (IVI = 43). As amplitudes numérica e volumétrica do nicho trófico foram respectivamente 1,80 e 1,16, para fêmeas, e 4,03 e 3,92, para machos. Machos e fêmeas diferiram em tamanho (CRC) e massa, com as fêmeas sendo maiores e mais pesadas. Os tamanhos dos menores indivíduos reprodutivos de machos e fêmeas foram 34,64 e 40,33 mm, respectivamente. Diferenças no tamanho podem estar relacionadas a distintos investimentos na reprodução pelos dois sexos._________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT: Aspects of the ecology and natural history of Phyllomedusa azurea were investigated in an area of Central Brazilian Cerrado between April, 2006, and February, 2007. Observations were conducted between 6:00 PM and 5:00 AM. The study focused on spatial, temporal, and trophic niches, morphometry and reproduction. Most animals were recorded vocalizing in places dominated by herbaceous vegetation and an open canopy. The main substrates used were bushes and trees, and animals were seen perched most often between 0.5 and 1.0 m of height. Spatial niche breadth was 2.91 and 3.83 for substrate and perch height, respectively. Most animal were sighted close to lentic water bodies, usually up to 0.50 m. It is possible that these characteristics are related primarily to the phylogeny of the genus and secondarily to the specific needs of the species and the local availability of resources. The bushes and trees were used by the species mainly as sites of vocalization and oviposition. Specimens of Phyllomedusa azurea was sighted most frequently between 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM. Estimated temporal niche breadth (activity period) was 4.68. Prolonged reproductive pattern was also observed predominantly in the months with higher temperature and higher humidity (September to February). The diet consisted of eleven items. The most important prey taxon for the females was Orthoptera (IVI = 63), whereas for the males, it was Araneae (IVI = 33). The breadths numeric and volumetric of the trophic niche, was respectively 1.80 and 1.16, for females, and 4.03 and 3.92, for males. Males and females differed in size (SVL) and mass, with the females being larger and heavier. The sizes of smaller reproductive individuals males and females were 34.64 and 40.33 mm, respectively. Differences in size may be related to different investments in reproduction by the two sexes.

Siphonopidae is represented by 25 caecilians species in South America. In Brazil, Siphonops paulensis is found in the states of Maranhão, Rio Grande do Norte, Bahia, Tocantins, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, and in the Distrito Federal. Herein, we report the first record of Siphonops paulensis in the state of Sergipe, Brazil, Simão Dias municipality. This record significantly expands the distribution of the species in northeastern Brazil.

This article provides new records to Ceratophrys joazeirensis of two new localities from the state of Sergipe, northeast Brazil. These records extend the geographical distribution of the species for municipalities from Poço Redondo and Canindé do São Franscisco. These points are the first records of Ceratophrys joazeirensis for the State of Sergipe.

This article provides the first record of Fluvicola nengeta in Distrito Federal, Central Brazil. The distance between the new record and the nearest point where it was previously recorded is about 180 km. The deforestation associated with the mechanization and expansion of agropastoral system in the Cerrado biome, coupled with the plasticity of the species to occupy various habitats presents the major contributors in the expansion of F. nengeta, contributing to its increasing expansion in the Midwest region of the Brazil.

This article provides a new record of Phyllodytes punctatus in Parque Nacional Serra de Itabaiana, municipality of Areia Branca, Sergipe, northeast Brazil. This point is the first record after the description of the species.

This article provides new records to Acratossaura mentalis of two new localities from the state of Sergipe, northeast Brazil. These records extend the geographical distribution of specie for municipalities from Poço Redondo and Itabaiana. Possibly, these points are the first records of A. mentalis for the state of Sergipe.
