Le vicende storiche del Cenacolo nella prima metà del Novecento dimostrano che il restauro, momento fondamentale per trasmettere al futuro le opere d’arte, imprime sull’opera l’“ombra storica” del suo tempo, lascia cioè un segno che contiene ed esprime la cultura e i valori di chi ha guidato e realizzato il restauro. Un’avvincente storia in cui i restauri si colgono come parte della vita del dipinto, della sua ricezione, del riconoscimento del suo valore storico, artistico, culturale, sociale, in un intreccio serrato tra la vita dell’opera, le vite di personaggi più o meno noti – Roberto Longhi, Cesare Brandi, Fernanda Wittgens, Luigi Cavenaghi, Mauro Pellicioli – e la storia delle istituzioni: le soprintendenze lombarde, il Ministero e l’Istituto Centrale del Restauro. Ogni epoca ha trovato nel dipinto vinciano risposte ai propri interrogativi. La storia del Cenacolo nella prima metà del Novecento ci aiuta a comprendere le complessità del nostro sguardo.

Il saggio indaga in che modo lo sguardo pittorico di Tommaso Pincio si riverbera sulla sua scrittura, agendo sottotraccia come una presenza fantasmatica. Infatti, la prosa di Pincio è caratterizzata dalla coesistenza di due anime, il pittore mancato e lo scrittore acquisito, che non cercano di raggiungere un improbabile equilibrio ma continuamente convergono e divergono tra loro. Queste oscillazioni generano una proliferazione di attriti creativi, che consentono di sperimentare diverse modalità di interazione tra parola letteraria e immagine. In particolare, nel romanzo-saggio Il dono di saper vivere (2018) lo scrittore ha trovato nella figura multiforme di Caravaggio – che da sempre lo ossessiona – lo specchio per osservare le proprie idiosincrasie e anche per indagare l’ipocrisia della società contemporanea. The essay investigates how Tommaso Pincio’s pictorial gaze affects his writing as a ghostly presence underlying the textual surface. Pincio’s prose is characterised by the coexistence of two souls, the failed painter and the acquired writer, who do not seek for an impossible balance but constantly converge and diverge. These oscillations generate a proliferation of creative frictions, which enable the experimentation of different interactions between literary word and image. In particular, in the novel-essay Il dono di saper vivere (2018), Pincio represents the multifaceted figure of Caravaggio – which has always obsessed him – as a mirror to observe his own idiosyncrasies and to investigate the hypocrisy of contemporary society.

The irredentist vocation in Trieste has been well represented since 1911 in the articles of the satiric publication Marameo. All texts were of course written in satirical tones what-ever the topic, coherently with the title of the newspaper – Settimanale politico satirico pupazzettato! (Puppet Satirical Political Weekly!). This tradition continued up until 1942. Marameo has recently become an important source for art historians who study the local artists that exposed their artwork in Trieste at Salone Michelazzi or at the paillon in the Public Park. The critiques often came with cartoons that pleasantly made fun of the art-work. However, the political turning point of the satirical paper was marked by the fire at the Casa del Popolo (“People’s house”) of the Slovenian community of Trieste. From that moment on, Marameo took the anti-Slavic nationalism road, which is very well noticeable in the critique articles about the exhibits, so much so that many experimentations from the 20th century are considered as slothful attacks to the authentic roots of Italian art.

Este trabajo se centra en una “constelación” de intelectuales argentinos de horizontes inevitablemente eurocentricos que, mediante la propia contribución ofrecida en la revista Sur (1931-1992) a través de ensayos sobre crítica de arte, intentan comprender las dificultades del momento artístico local. Con el inicio de una secuencia de eventos, se propone una reflexión que entiende el cine y la arquitectura como un “espacio pedagógico”. Por medio del análisis y la interpretación del papel cultural de Victoria Ocampo (Buenos Aires 1890-1979) y la “herramienta-revista” Sur, se presentan una serie de eventos y estrategias unidos por un fil rouge orientado a crear la unidad cultural argentina; desde el apoyo personal y privado, brindado a Le Corbusier durante su viaje por Argentina y el proyecto documental que inicia en el marco del cine sovietico de Sergej Ėjzenštejn hasta abarcar el neorrealismo italiano de Vittorio De Sica y Cesare Zavattini. El enfoque en Ocampo, escritora, mecenas y directora de Sur, lleva el análisis crítico al marco moderno de los estudios de género, abriendo -a la cultura y sociedad argentina de los años en cuestión- un panorama de ideas complejo y fructífero, respecto al horizonte de desarrollo del propio patrimonio cultural. This paper focuses on a “constellation” of argentinian scholars characterized by an inevitable and common eurocentric horizon that, through their own contribution in Sur (1931-1992) with several art critic essays, try to interpretate the tough local artistic moment. Starting from a sequence of events, a reflection on cinema and architecture as a 'pedagogical space’, is proposed. Through the analysis and interpretation of Victoria Ocampo’s cultural role and her tool-magazine named Sur, a series of events and strategies connected by a fil rouge oriented to create an Argentian cultural unity are presented: from the personal and private support provided to Le Corbusier during his journey to Argentina and the documentary project that starts in the framework of the Soviet cinema of Sergej Ėjzenštejn, to the Italian neorealism of Vittorio De Sica and Cesare Zavattini. The focus in Ocampo, writer, maecenas and director of Sur brings critical analysis to the modern framework of gender studies, opening - to the Argentine culture and society of those years - a complex and fruitful panorama of ideas, to the horizon of development of one's cultural heritage.
