This work addresses the issue of the accuracy with which the stator end winding inductance of A.C. machines is determined in the design stage. Only two-layer windings having a shortened pitch are treated in this paper. The end winding inductance was calculated by determining the distribution of the magnetic field, performing numerical analyses based on finite elements method (FEM).The manner of how the inductances are determined using the analysis results is described in the paper. For validating the procedure, comparisons between FEM results and laboratory tests were performed in case of one of the studied machine. There is a very good correlation between the results. Then, a comparative FEM-Analytical study was carried out. Own program was used to design and build the models necessary in the study. Based on about 130 models, some important conclusions have been depicted.

This paper discusses mobile notifications in the context of health monitoring system that measure and store vital signs of the patient that are included in this program. The values measured are temperature and cardiac rhythm. This has two Android application, one is used by the patient to monitor his vital signs and the other is used by the physician to be able to see and receive push notifications of each individual patient. The sensors are connected to a Raspberry Pi and these devices send information to the Android smartphone via Bluetooth. The physician can monitor patient data in real time. All the information that is gathered by the smartphone from the sensors are sent to the cloud, can project a history and can detect some anomalies, for example, if the cardiac pulse is not within the limits of an accepted interval.

Road condition monitoring is a generally complex task, either involving slow and tedious visual surface examination or using expensive specialized equipment operated by qualified personnel. The aim of this paper is to explore a faster and cheaper method of monitoring road condition, by implementing a distributed system that can use existing Android smartphones. The system records sensor data (accelerometer and GPS) locally and allows users to upload the data to the server at their convenience. The web application component offers an easy to use interface for detailed examination of all the uploaded data by displaying entire routes over a diverse selection of map types.

In this paper we discuss about emergent technologies for smart grids deployment with the focus on middleware for Internet of Things in the Cloud.

The paper discribe a multi-agent application in power systems for the problem of Load Frequency Control. The connections between subsystems are treated by each controller agent as a set of disturbance signals. Each area maintain the tie-lines power flow to specified values,based on communication between neighboring agents.

This paper proposes a method of finite elements analysis (FEA) of the rotor cage induction motor. In case of an induction motor supplied with constant voltage, the current during starting process is not constant. For that reason, FEA in frequency domain at constant current is not appropriate for direct start simulation. A motion analysis is required, the rotor speed being computed according to magnetic field values. The main disadvantages are that such analysis requires considerable time and hardware/software resources. In order to eliminate these shortcomings, this paper proposes a frequency domain analysis, stator winding being fed with constant (nominal) voltage. The torque-slip, current-slip curves and the parameters variation during direct start process can be obtained, without requiring however a numerical analysis with motion. The results obtained by this method are compared to those given by equivalent circuit parameters and by measurements. Cooperation has become a useful technology for software-based systems. Emergent agent technology, successfully applied in distributing computing, was also applied to electric power system. The paper attempts to summarize convergent developments in power system area that exploit agent technology and present a simple simulation.

Diversity of communication technologies in Internet of Things and increasing the amount of sensor data outlined the idea of using intermediate devices for storage and pre-processing — such as gateways in sensor networks. Moreover, semantic interoperability is emerging as an attractive solution for communication between autonomous entities or smart objects in Internet of Things, so the paper examines the functionalities of semantic data annotation in embedded devices with limited resources located at the edge of the Smart Grid network.
