The analysis of gross primary production (GPP) is crucial to better understand CO2 exchanges between terrestrial ecosystems and the atmosphere, while the quantification of water-use efficiency (WUE) allows for the estimation of the compensation between carbon gained and water lost by the ecosystem. Understanding these dynamics is essential to better comprehend the responses of environments to ongoing climatic changes. The objective of the present study was to analyze, through AMERIFLUX and LBA network measurements, the variability of GPP and WUE in four distinct tropical biomes in Brazil: Pantanal, Amazonia, Caatinga and Cerrado (savanna). Furthermore, data measured by eddy covariance systems were used to assess remotely sensed GPP products (MOD17). We found a distinct seasonality of meteorological variables and energy fluxes with different latent heat controls regarding available energy in each site. Remotely sensed GPP was satisfactorily related with observed data, despite weak correlations in interannual estimates and consistent overestimations and underestimations during certain months. WUE was strongly dependent on water availability, with values of 0.95 gC kg−1 H2O (5.79 gC kg−1 H2O) in the wetter (drier) sites. These values reveal new thresholds that had not been previously reported in the literature. Our findings have crucial implications for ecosystem management and the design of climate policies regarding the conservation of tropical biomes, since WUE is expected to change in the ongoing climate change scenario that indicates an increase in frequency and severity of dry periods.

Although seasonally dry tropical forests are considered invaluable to a greater understanding of global carbon fluxes, they remain as one of the ecosystems with the fewest observations. In this context, ecological and ecosystem models can be used as alternative methods to answer questions related to the interactions between the biosphere and the atmosphere in dry forests. The objective of this study was to calibrate the simple tropical ecosystem model (SITE) and evaluate its performance in characterizing the annual and seasonal behavior of the energy and carbon fluxes in a preserved fragment of the Caatinga biome. The SITE model exhibited reasonable applicability to simulate variations in CO2 and energy fluxes (r > 0.7). Results showed that the calibrated set of vegetation parameters adequately simulated gross primary productivity (GPP) and net ecosystem CO2 exchange (NEE). The SITE model was also able to accurately retrieve the time at which daily GPP and NEE peaked. The model was able to simulate the partition of the available energy into sensible and latent heat fluxes and soil heat flux when the calibrated parameters were used. Therefore, changes in the dynamics of dry forests should be taken into consideration in the modeling of ecosystem carbon balances.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to identify the repercussions of financial toxicity on the lives of adult cancer patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: an integrative review was conducted using the PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and Embase databases, as well as the Virtual Health Library portal, in March 2023. Results: out of 62 studies found, 13 were included for analysis. The primary repercussions of financial toxicity included difficulties in covering basic expenses such as food, housing, medication, transportation, and internet access; increased anxiety and concerns related to health and financial situations; reduction or absence of income; challenges in obtaining treatment or accessing healthcare services; rising expenses; and telemedicine as a less burdensome alternative. Conclusions: the pandemic has exacerbated financial toxicity; therefore, healthcare teams must recognize it as an adverse event of oncological treatment and understand its potential to affect various aspects of patients’ lives.

Introduction: Methylene Blue (MB) has been shown to attenuate oxidative, inflammatory, myocardial, and neurological lesions during ischemia-reperfusion and has great potential during cardiac arrest. This study aimed to determine the effects of MB combined with epinephrine during cardiac arrest on myocardial and cerebral lesions. Method: Thirty-eight male Wistar rats were randomly assigned to four groups: the sham group (SH, n = 5), and three groups subjected to cardiac arrest (n = 11/group) and treated with EPI 20 µg.kg−1 (EPI), EPI 20 µg.kg−1 + MB 2 mg.kg−1 (EPI + MB), or saline 0.9% 0.2 ml (CTL). Ventricular fibrillation was induced by direct electrical stimulation in the right ventricle for 3 minutes, and anoxia was maintained for 5 minutes. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) consisted of medications, ventilation, chest compressions, and defibrillation. After returning to spontaneous circulation, animals were observed for four hours. Blood gas, troponin, oxidative stress, histology, and TUNEL staining measurements were analyzed. Groups were compared using generalized estimating equations. Results: No differences in the Returning of Spontaneous Circulation (ROSC) rate were observed among the groups (EPI: 63%, EPI + MB: 45%, CTL: 40%, p = 0.672). The mean arterial pressure immediately after ROSC was higher in the EPI+MB group than in the CTRL group (CTL: 30.5 [5.8], EPI: 63 [25.5], EPI+MB: 123 [31] mmHg, p = 0.007). Serum troponin levels were high in the CTL group (CTL: 130.1 [333.8], EPI: 3.70 [36.0], EPI + MB: 43.7 [116.31] ng/mL, p < 0.05). Conclusion: The coadministration of MB and epinephrine failed to yield enhancements in cardiac or brain lesions in a rodent model of cardiac arrest.

During the preclinical research process, multiple factors can be difficult to implement without the careful consideration and planning of each step. As research has become more advanced with the use of increasingly complex technology, animal models have also become essential for understanding the potential impact of devices, drug therapies, and surgical techniques on humans before clinical trials are conducted. The use of an in vivo animal model is a key and necessary step in the progression of preclinical research studies that will lead to future medical inventions and innovation. Here, we describe the three phases of effectively designing a preclinical research protocol: the research, preprocedural planning, and experimental phases. Furthermore, we provide researchers with guidance through these phases and discuss important considerations.

Abstract Background This study evaluated histopathological characteristics of bone marrow (BM) of patients with immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) and sought to find possible associations among them and clinical aspects. Method A retrospective study was carried out with 120 patients using BM clot and BM biopsy samples, including morphological (cytological and histological) re-evaluation, reticulin and hemosiderin analysis, and clinical outcome review of medical records. Immunohistochemistry (CD34 and CD117) was applied in a group of patients with increased reticulin, with the objective of exclusion Myelodysplastic syndrome cases Results Megakaryocytic hyperplasia was observed in 109 (90.8%) patients and increased reticulin was diagnosed in nine patients, five of them with a clinically unfavorable outcome (p = 0.042). The increase in reticulin graduation was associated with a higher risk of an unfavorable outcome. Conclusion Increased reticulin degree in BM of patients with ITP is associated with an unfavorable outcome in this study. It is rarely explored in the literature and may provide information that contributes to understanding the patient's outcomes.

Objective: To investigate the prevalence and factors associated with no intention to exclusively breastfeed for the first 6 months of life in a sample of women in the first 24 h postpartum during the hospital stay. Methods: Cross-sectional study with data from screening phase of a birth cohort. The proportion of mothers who did not intend to breastfeed exclusively for 6 months (primary outcome) derived from a negative response to the question “Would you be willing to try to breastfeed exclusively for the first 6 months?”, in an interview conducted by previously trained interviewers. Crude and adjusted prevalence ratios (PR) with 95% confidence intervals were obtained by Poisson regression with robust variance. Results: A total of 2964 postpartum women were interviewed. The overall prevalence of mothers who did not intend to breastfeed exclusively for 6 months was 17.8% (16.4−19.1%). After adjusting for maternal age and type of pregnancy (singleton or multiple), no intention to exclusively breastfeed was higher in mothers with a monthly household income < 3 minimum wages (PR, 1.64; 1.35−1.98) and in those who intended to smoke 4−7 days/week after delivery (PR, 1.42; 1.11−1.83). The presence of significant newborn morbidity (PR, 0.32; 0.19−0.54) and intention to breastfeed up to 12 months (PR, 0.46; 0.38−0.55) had a protective effect against not intending to breastfeed exclusively for 6 months. Conclusions: Approximately 1 in every 5 mothers did not intend to breastfeed exclusively for 6 months. Strategies aimed at promoting exclusive breastfeeding should focus attention on mothers from lower economic strata and smokers.

Background Catheter ablation (CA) is a safe, effective, cost‐effective technique and may be considered a first‐line strategy for the treatment of symptomatic supraventricular tachycardias (SVT). Despite the high prospect of cure and the recommendations of international guidelines in considering CA as a first‐line treatment strategy, the average time between diagnosis and the procedure may be long. The present study aims to evaluate predictors related to non‐referral for CA as first‐line treatment in patients with SVT. Methods and Results The model was derived from a retrospective cohort of patients with SVT or ventricular pre‐excitation referred for CA in a tertiary center. Clinical and demographical features were used as independent variables and non‐referral for CA as first‐line treatment the dependent variable in a stepwise logistic regression analysis. Among 20 clinical‐demographic variables from 350 patients, 10 were included in initial logistic regression analysis: age, women, presence of pre‐excitation on ECG, palpitation, dyspnea and chest discomfort, number of antiarrhythmic drugs before ablation, number of concomitant symptoms, symptoms’ duration and evaluations in the emergency room due to SVT. Abstract Introduction The World Health Organization’s (WHO) update of 2017 defines the cut-off for BCL2 in immunohistochemistry (IHC) in 50% of stained cells in diffuse large B-cell lymphomas (DLBCL). The WHO’s 2017 classification, however, has no standardized value. This study analyzes associations between immunohistochemistry results for BCL2 in relation to the detection of translocations of MYC, BCL2, and BCL6 in DLBCL. Method Sixty-seven patients with DLBCL were evaluated using IHC, with CD20, CD10, BCL6, BCL2, MUM1, TDT and MYC, and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) for translocations involving the BCL2, BCL6, and MYC. Two cut-offs for BCL2 in IHC were used (50 and 70%), with the calculation of sensitivity (S), specificity (E), positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV), accuracy and concordance test, with a significance level of 5%. Results Using a 70% cut-off, there is a good relationship between S (88.9%, IC95% = 68.4–109.4) and E (67.2, 95% CI = 55.2–79.3), with a high NPV (97.5, 95% CI = 92.7–102.3) and statistically significant agreement (K = 0.30, p = 0.02). Using a 50% cut-off, S and NPV increase to 100%, with a specificity of 39.7% (95% CI = 27.1–52.2) and a statistically significant concordance (K = 0.15, p = 0.017). Conclusion Reduction in the percentage of immunostaining increases the detection of DLBCL with a “double-expressor” immunophenotype. The lower criterion amplifies the S and the NPV of IHC to detect translocations involving the BCL2 gene, with an impact on the diagnosis of DLBCL “double expressor”, an unfavorable prognostic group.

Cardiomyopathies (CMP) are associated with fibrosis scarring and myocardial fiber disarray that promotes slow tissue conduction and substrate for reentrant ventricular arrhythmias. Sometimes CMP may be associated with ventricular extrasystoles, but they may originate infrequently in the scar tissue. The case report presents a patient with nonischemic CMP, frequent premature ventricular ectopias and sustained ventricular tachycardia referenced to catheter ablation.

Objetivo: avaliar a toxicidade financeira e correlacionar o escore total com as características sociodemográficas e clínicas de pacientes com câncer assistidos em instituições pública e privada. Método: estudo transversal descritivo, realizado entre setembro de 2018 a janeiro de 2020 com 126 pacientes em tratamento quimioterápico no estado do Paraná, Brasil. Utilizou-se instrumento sociodemográfico e clínico e COmprehensive Score for financial Toxicity; para análise, o teste t de Student e Scoring Guidelines. Resultados: o escore médio da toxicidade financeira na amostra da instituição pública foi de 16,33, na privada de 24,02. Unindo as amostras, o escore médio foi de 18,95. Ao realizar correlação, verificou-se significância estatística com a renda na instituição pública (p-valor=0,002); na instituição privada, presença de comorbidade (p-valor=0,003) e uso de medicamentos (p-valor=0,042). Conclusão: reconhecer a toxicidade financeira como evento adverso auxiliará os profissionais num plano assistencial de acordo com as condições do paciente.

Background Ventricular tachycardia (VT) in patients with chronic chagasic cardiomyopathy (CCC) is associated with considerable morbidity and mortality. Catheter ablation of VT in patients with CCC is very complex and challenging. The main goal of this work was to assess the efficacy of VT catheter ablation guided by late potentials (LPs) in patients with CCC. Parte da pesquisa cujo foco foi investigar a formação continuada no Pacto Nacional pela Alfabetização na Idade Certa – PNAIC, implantado em 2012 como acordo formal entre os governos federal, estaduais e municipais objetivando a alfabetização de todas as crianças até os oito anos de idade, o presente artigo busca discutir pontos destacados por professores participantes sobre a formação vivenciada. Delimitado na perspectiva qualitativa, a pesquisa se pautou na análise dos documentos oficiais que orientam o PNAIC, no material de apoio utilizado para o processo de formação e em entrevistas semiestruturadas realizadas com professoras da rede municipal de uma cidade sul mineira que participaram da formação entre os anos de 2013 e 2016. Ainda que a pesquisa tenha evidenciado outras questões, objetivamos neste artigo discutir a forte marca de praticismo observada na fala dos entrevistados, evidenciando que, no processo de formação, e diferente do que anuncia a proposta oficial, a prática foi priorizada em detrimento da teoria, privilegiando atividades voltadas ao “como fazer” e ao estudo de exemplos em prejuízo da possibilidade de momentos de reflexão que permitissem tanto a ampliação de conhecimentos por parte dos professores, quanto o revisitar da própria prática a partir do debate de concepções. The Caatinga dry forest encompasses 11% of the total continental territory of Brazil. Nevertheless, most research on the relationship between phenology and ecosystem productivity of Brazilian tropical forests is aimed at the Amazon basin. Thus, in this study we evaluated the seasonality of ecosystem productivity (gross primary production—GPP) in a preserved Caatinga environment in northeast Brazil. Analyses were carried out using eddy covariance measurements and satellite-derived data from sensor MODIS (MODerate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer, MOD17 and MOD13 products). In addition to GPP, we investigated water use efficiency (WUE) and meteorological and phenological aspects through remotely sensed vegetation indices (NDVI and EVI). We verified that ecosystem productivity is limited mainly by evapotranspiration, with maximum GPP values registered in the wetter months, indicating a strong dependency on water availability. NDVI and EVI were positively associated with GPP (r = 0.69 and 0.81, respectively), suggesting a coupling between the emergence of new leaves and the phenology of local photosynthetic capacity. WUE, on the other hand, was strongly controlled by consecutive dry days and not necessarily by total precipitation amount. The vegetation indices adequately described interannual variations of the forest response to environmental factors, and GPP MODIS presented a good relationship with tower-measured GPP in dry (R2 = 0.76) and wet (R2 = 0.62) periods.

However, differentiating myocardial hypertrophy as a physiological adaptation of the heart to exercise can be a clinical challenge. In this context, nuclear magnetic resonance imaging has been shown to be a essential exam for diagnostic elucidation. The case report aimed to depict a young athlete with syncope and an initial investigation suggestive of HCM, which was excluded after deconditioning and serial MRI.

O Design Science é um paradigma epistemológico para a condução de pesquisas tecnológicas. O Design Science Research (DSR) é o método de pesquisa orientado pelo Design Science. O objetivo deste artigo é discutir a aplicação do DSR em Cursos Superiores de Tecnologia (CSTs). Este é um estudo de caso exploratório, desenvolvido no contexto de duas disciplinas dos CSTs em Comércio Exterior e Análise e Desenvolvimento de Sistemas, no Centro de Educação Tecnológica Paula Souza - FATEC-ZL. A principal contribuição do artigo é apresentar como as pesquisas tecnológicas aplicadas nestes dois contextos responderam í s diretrizes do método. Este artigo também busca estimular a discussão sobre a aplicação do DSR no ensino superior brasileiro.

Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) is one of the most important viral causes for the development of tumours. The global geographical epidemiology of EBV shows prevalence differences between rich and poor countries across the world, and the impact on health suggests EBV should be an important target of research worldwide. This article will discuss the biology of the virus with an emphasis on its latency types, vital to understanding the possibilities of viral detection. The main objective is to discuss two lymphoproliferative diseases that are associated with EBV and appear in the World Health Organization (WHO) 2017 Classification of Tumours of Haematopoietic and Lymphoid Tissues: EBV-positive diffuse large B cell lymphoma and EBV mucocutaneous ulcer. The name of the former was changed to support the better understanding of infection pathology, while the second was recently described and made its debut in the WHO classification. Pathologists must have knowledge on these diseases and how to investigate them, and oncologists and clinical doctors must be informed on the guidelines.

Background: Computerized image analysis seems to represent a promising diagnostic possibility for thyroid tumors. Our aim was to evaluate the discriminatory diagnostic efficiency of computerized image analysis of cell nuclei from histological materials of follicular tumors. Methods: We studied paraffin-embedded materials from 42 follicular adenomas (FA), 47 follicular variants of papillary carcinomas (FVPC) and 20 follicular carcinomas (FC) by the software ImageJ. Based on the nuclear morphometry and chromatin texture, the samples were classified as FA, FC or FVPC using the Classification and Regression Trees method. Results: We observed high diagnostic sensitivity and specificity rates (FVPC: 89.4% and 100%; FC: 95.0% and 92.1%; FA: 90.5 and 95.5%, respectively). When the tumors were compared by pairs (FC vs FA, FVPC vs FA), 100% of the cases were classified correctly. Conclusion: The computerized image analysis of nuclear features showed to be a useful diagnostic support tool for the histological differentiation between follicular adenomas, follicular variants of papillary carcinomas and follicular carcinomas.

Abstract: Primary cutaneous CD4+ small/medium T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder is a rare disease, with an indolent evolution and benign course. The classic presentation is a solitary nodule on the face or trunk. The disorder’s rarity and clinical and histopathological characteristics, can make the diagnosis difficult. We present the case of a 36-year-old Caucasian woman with a purplish erythematous nodule, hardened, shiny, asymptomatic, on the left nasal ala, which had grown progressively for 45 days. Histopathological examination and immunohistochemistry panel demonstrated alterations consistent with primary cutaneous CD4+ small/medium T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder. There was complete remission of the condition within 60 days of treatment with potent occlusive corticosteroids.

In 2016, an update on the classification of lymphoid neoplasm was published, and one of the modifications made focussed on B-cell lymphoma, unclassifiable, with features intermediate between diffuse large B-cell lymphoma and Burkitt’s lymphoma, a term which has now been abandoned. This represented a very difficult disease in the diagnostic routine of pathologists. The new proposed term is high-grade B-cell lymphoma, which includes the double-hit lymphomas. Yet, there was still confusion about the diagnostic criteria. This review discusses the changes in classification, with an emphasis on the double-hit lymphomas. Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma and Burkitt’s lymphoma are also commented on in the text. The diagnosis of double-hit lymphomas is dependent on molecular tests and it is not available throughout the world. Research identifying features that can allow patients to be specifically selected for these molecular tests is also important.

Abstract Granuloma faciale is a chronic, benign, cutaneous vasculitis with well-established clinical and morphological patterns, but with an unknown etiology. This study describes clinical and pathologic aspects of patients diagnosed with granuloma faciale. The authors analyzed demographic, clinical, morphological and immunohistochemical data from patients with a final diagnosis of granuloma faciale, confirmed between 1998 and 2012. There was a proportional and mixed inflammatory infiltrate, Grenz zones were present in almost all the samples. Immunophenotyping confirmed a higher intensity of T lymphocytes than B lymphocytes in thirteen samples, with a predominance of T CD8 lymphocytes in 64% of cases, in contrast to the literature, which indicates that the major component is T CD4 lymphocytes. All cases were positive for IgG4 but the majority (12/14) had less than 25% of stained cells. The pathogenesis of granuloma faciale remains poorly understood, making studies of morphological and immunohistochemical characterization important to better understand it.

Abstract: Primary cutaneous lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma is a rare disease with low metastatic potential. Its morphologic and pathological features are similar to those of nasopharyngeal lymphoepithelial carcinoma. We report the case of a 60-year-old man with an infrapalpebral pearly papule, measuring 0.6 cm in diameter. The lesion was excised with a clinical hypothesis of basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma. Histopathological analysis revealed a malignant neoplasm with syncytial arrangement of cells with vesicular nuclei, associated with dense lymphocytic infiltrate. Immunohistochemistry revealed cytokeratin-positive cells (AE1/AE3) and p63 protein, indicating epithelial histogenesis and squamous differentiation. A negative Epstein-Barr virus test result was achieved by immunohistochemistry. Primary lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma of the skin is a differential diagnosis of lesions with prominent inflammatory infiltrates.

Lauric acid (LAH) strongly inhibits the growth of acne-causing bacteria. LAH is essentially water-insoluble and the solubility of laurate (LA) salts are medium and temperature dependent. Hence, LAH/LA preparations are difficult to formulate. Here we fully characterized phospholipid vesicles containing up to 50 mol% LAH. Vesicles of dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) containing LAH, at pHs 7.4 and 5.0, were characterized measuring size, charge, bilayer phase transition temperature (Tm) and permeability of water-soluble probes. Small angle X-ray scattering and cryotransmission electron microscopy showed multilamellar vesicles at low LAH %. Increasing LAH % had a negligible effect on particle size. An internal aqueous compartment in all vesicle's preparations, even at equimolar DPPC: LAH fractions, was demonstrated using water-soluble probes. At pH 5.0, the interaction between DPPC and LAH increased the Tm and phase transition cooperativity showing a single lipid phase formed by hydrogen-bonded DPPC: LAH complexes. At pH 7.4, vesicles containing 50 mol% LAH exhibited distinct phases, ascribed to complex formation between LAH and LA or LAH and DPPC. LAH incorporated in the vesicles minimally permeated a skin preparation at both pHs, indicating that the primary sites of LAH solubilization were the skin layers. These results provide the foundations for developing processes and products containing DPPC: LAH.

Bone marrow biopsy is a diagnostic tool largely used in the evaluation of a broad number of disorders that could affect the hematopoietic system. Differently, bone marrow aspirate clot technique is rarely performed even though it has been described in literature. Here, we highlight the utility of the bone marrow aspirate clot, exemplifying through the discussion of three clinical cases in which this technique was used for diagnosis and follow-up purposes: megaloblastic hemopathy, multiple myeloma, and chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Bone marrow clot analysis increases sensitivity to diagnose hemopathies and offers the possibility of morphological evaluation and anatomopathological study, with the advantage of not needing decalcification processes, hence improving antigenic expression in immunohistochemical and FISH techniques. It is an easy-to-perform technique, offering a quick, reliable, and more comfortable procedure for patients.

The diagnostic and therapeutic approach for pregnant women with thyroid nodules can present a challenge, especially concerning surgical procedures. In the context of malignant diagnosis, by fine needle aspiration (FNA), during pregnancy, the uncertainty lies in performing surgery. This article reports the case of a 41-year-old pregnant woman in her first gestation, who sought medical care complaining of right shoulder pain. Imaging workup depicted the destruction of the humeral head and involvement of the surrounding soft tissue. She was 20 weeks pregnant. The histological report favored the diagnosis of malignancy and the thyroid as the primary site. At 30 weeks of gestation, the patient underwent a cesarean section, a total thyroidectomy, and total resection of the metastasis. The child was born healthy, but one year after the diagnosis, the patient died. Bone and soft tissue metastasis of thyroid neoplasms are not very common and indicate poor prognosis.

Este artigo analisa a posição do intelectual Mário de Andrade ao se referir à obra O turista aprendiz, no que concerne à sua representação etnográfica e fotográfica, numa tentativa de compreender os problemas sociais, durante sua estada nos estados do Norte e do Nordeste brasileiro. A obra O turista aprendiz foi escrita entre os anos de 1928 e 1930, em forma de diários, de anotações e crônicas de viagens. Em um primeiro momento, o escritor paulista publicou originalmente esses escritos no jornal Diário Nacional, nas mesmas datas. No entanto, a publicação oficial do livro saiu após os textos serem publicados no jornal, em edição organizada por Telê Ancona Lopez, quase cinquenta anos depois, em 1976. O centro das visitas etnográficas embutido na obra consiste na atenção que o autor dedica ao público proletário, na busca pela formulação de uma cultura popular nacional. O escritor modernista assume uma postura de intelectual comprometido com a sociedade, pretendendo representá-la em seus escritos e crônicas de viagens. Como lastro teórico, baseamo-nos na interpretação de alguns teóricos que mais ajudaram a compreender o panorama dessa dualidade investigativa (Literatura e Fotografia), a saber: Ancona Lopez (1976); Sussekind (2008); Barthes (1981), entre outros, necessários para contemplação do tema proposto.

A representação do cenário no Novo Romance Histórico brasileiro tem despertado pouco interesse na crítica literária. A morfologia urbana composta por casas, casarões, palácios, castelos, igrejas, pontes, logradouros, meios de transporte e cidades é caracterizada e descrita conforme o contexto de época. Muitos escritores analisam compêndios históricos, documentos de época, arquivos, museus, numa tentativa de representar ou (re)criar o pano de fundo dos enredos históricos formulados. Os romances A República dos Bugres (1999) e Conspiração Barroca (2008) do escritor baiano Ruy Reis Tapioca conjugam-se como obras literárias que remontam o passado histórico, recuperando os pressupostos vigentes nos séculos XVIII e XIX, nomeadamente a chegada da Família Real Portuguesa e a Inconfidência Mineira. O presente artigo averigua como o cenário histórico é representado nesses romances, identificando a forma e o conteúdo trabalhado, por meio do recorte das descrições narrativas. De modo a fundamentar a nossa reflexão recorremos aos contributos de: Lowenthal (1998), Bury (2006), Pons, (1996), White, (1992), entre outros. Por último, a contribuição deste artigo visa expandir o olhar estético para esse assunto tão instigante e ainda não devidamente explorado pelo meio acadêmico.

This study addresses the concept of coproduction factors of primary (hub) and secondary (partners) agents in strategic networks of shared service provisioning. Coproduction factors in networks refer to resources of primary and secondary agents. These resources are mainly employed in shared service provisioning and perceived as fundamental by the user. The objective of this research was to verify the influence of these coproduction factors alone and in interaction (network effect) about the attitudinal consequences of user satisfaction and pride of the distance education service. The survey with 7138 users of this service, the validation of measures and the hypotheses test, through the Multiple Regression Analysis, showed that the coproduction factors of the different agents (hub and on-site education poles), as well as the network effect, influence the student’s satisfaction and pride.

Hydrolycus armatus (dog fish) is a Teleostei of Cynodontidae Family that forms a distinct group of Neotropical Characiformes. This species is a predator, pelagic, freshwater and carnivorous and ichthyophagic feeding habits. Biological studies on fish are important in fishery, already that they are used as parameters to keep the exploitation to sustainable levels. This study aimed to describe the stomach anatomy of H. armatus, in order to generate basic information of this body of this vertebrate. We used ten (10) specimens of H. armatus, from the Teles Pires, city of Carlinda-MT, being this dissected and analyzed. The stomach of saccular format presented the regions cardial, pyloric and fundic, last being this last larger than the others. The anatomical features presented by the liver and stomach of H. armatus confirmed the relationship between the anatomy of these organs and their feeding habits being these, therefore, characteristics of predatory species, carnivorous and preferably ichthyophagics.

The aim of this study was to describe the morphology of the liver of Boulengerella cuvieri. Six specimens from the Rio Teles Pires, municipality of Carlinda - MT were used . For morphological analysis of the liver was performed with aperture of the peritoneal cavity with ventral incision, to expose the organs that were photographed in situ and separately. In the technique of light microscopy, specimens were processed in a series of increasing alcohol, leaf clearing in xylene and embedding in paraplast. The fragments were cut with a thickness of 5μm and stained with hematoxylin-eosin. The liver of this species appeared as a compact body, reddish brown in color, located in the cranial region of the peritoneal cavity, caudal to esophagus, cranial to the pyloric caeca and skull ventrally to the stomach. This organ consisted of a single hepatic lobe, which had three separate asymmetrical parts: a right side, a left side, and a central cranial portion of pyramidal shape. The right side portion of rectangular jagged edges presented flow, the upper longer than the lower, left side more elongated than the right, and center, lower than the others. Histologically, the parenchyma showed disorganized and composed of hepatocytes that formed cords and converging to blood vessels. It is possible also observe pancreatic tissue forming the hepatopancreas. Isolated cells were also present in the liver tissue, such as lymphocytes and free melanomacrophages. In B. cuvieri were not observed the portal triads.

Background: The objectives of this study were the evaluation of pathological characteristics of patients with obesity or metabolic syndrome (MS) as basic cause of death, associating the autopsy findings with some clinical aspects and the abdominal adipose panicle thickness. Methods: A total of 88 autopsy cases were studied, divided into 2 groups based on the main cause of death: group 1 (n = 15) obesity and group 2 (n = 73) MS. Clinical summaries of autopsy requests, macroscopic findings, and histologic sections were reviewed. Results: The definition of obesity as the basic cause of death is associated with larger thickness of the abdominal adipose panicle, being 8.5 cm ( P = .001) the best measurement, according to the receiver operating characteristic curve. Hypertensive cardiopathy ( P = .001), ischemic cardiopathy ( P = .003), coronary ( P = .008)/systemic ( P = .005) atherosclerosis, and arterial ( P = .014)/arteriolar ( P = .027) nephrosclerosis are associated with the diagnosis of MS. Steatohepatitis is associated with the diagnosis of obesity ( P = .030); however, its association with the thickness of the abdominal adipose panicle is not statistically significant ( P = .211). Conclusions: In the context of an obese patient in autopsy, pathologist may use the information about abdominal adipose panicle associated with heart, kidney, and liver findings, even macroscopic ones, to decide the basic cause death between obesity and MS.

Histiocytic sarcoma (HS) is a rare malignant neoplasia of hematopoietic origin and unknown etiology. We studied three patients with histiocytic sarcoma reviewing the morphological and immunohistochemical aspects. We evaluated in particular, if apoptosis may be unbalanced in this disease. All cases have morphological and immunohistochemical features consistent with the diagnosis of histiocytic sarcoma. The markers CD163, CD68, vimentin, lysozyme, and S-100 were positive in all cases. Similarly, the three samples were positive for Fas-ligand and Caspase-3. It is well-known that neoplasms may induce increased levels of Fas-ligand with the blockade of the apoptosis process. In the context of HS, the increased Fas-ligand expression represents a new area for research. Indeed, it is linked to proinflammatory stimulus and, maybe with the association of an infection.

Purpose: For this work I established as research objective the examination of antecedents (i.e., similarity of structural position, competence and sociability) and the consequences (i.e., formation of work group) of dyadic identification among students on a Business Administration course at a private University. Originality/Value: Identification has been examined anthropomorphically in the relationship between employee and organization or between employee and work team. However, organizations and teams are not human beings. I propose to investigate identification at the dyadic level, indeed among people, to transcend that barrier. Design/methodology/approach: I employed the sociometric survey as a method. Data were collected in two phases, with an interval of 12 months (t0and t1). I tested the hypotheses by means of the LR-QAP non-parametric technique. Findings: The results allowed me to point out that structural equivalence and similarity of deferences for competence and for sociability, influence dyadic identification. In examining the work groups’ training on completion of the course, I confirmed the hypothesis on the influence of dyadic identification, but also found that such groups are mainly formed by students who share the same contacts and are very similar in sociability (fun) and slightly similar in terms of competence deferences. Structural equivalence, deferences of competence, and deference to sociability con¬stitute a structural-deferential basis for social judgment and construction of social profiles and categories that enable comparison between peers and subsequent identification in a non-anthropomorphic way.

Relatamos o caso de paciente do sexo masculino, com 23 anos de idade, portador de miocárdio não compactado e taquicardia ventricular monomórfica sustentada. O paciente foi submetido a implante de cardiodesfibrilador implantável após diagnóstico confirmado por meio de ressonância nuclear magnética cardíaca e mantido em tratamento clínico com medicação antiarrítmica, sem recorrência de arritmia ventricular no acompanhamento ambulatorial.

ABSTRACTPierre Robin sequence is a neonatal disorder characterized by micrognathism, glossoptosis and cleft palate. We reported an autopsy case of a child whose malformations of the oropharynx were identified only at birth. The child was extremely preterm with severe neonatal depression and poor recovery, and the orofacial alterations prevented the correct treatment. There was facial disorder characterized by micrognathia associated with cleft palate and posterior displacement of the tongue, compressing the vallecula, structurally compatible with glossoptosis. This autopsy surpassed the scientific and epidemiological relevance, allowing the family genetic counseling and close monitoring of a subsequent pregnancy.

Os termos Gestão da Informação (GI) e Gestão do Conhecimento (GC) têm sido abordados na literatura a partir de diversas perspectivas. Entretanto, há convergência que a gestão de informações e do conhecimento auxilia na tomada de decisão eficiente, na otimização de recursos e na conseqüente melhoria do desempenho da organização. Este estudo de tem como objetivo verificar a percepção de profissionais da indústria de software em uma empresa de médio porte de Santa Catarina sobre GI e GC, a partir de critérios indicados pela literatura. Os resultados indicam que houve convergência dos participantes com a visão da literatura, em relação aos critérios “Fenômenos centrais” da GI, “Visibilidade dos fenômenos” da GI e da GC, “Processos críticos“ da GI e da GC, “Nível de centralidade para a gestão estratégica“ da GI, “Influência da cultura organizacional sobre processos e resultados“ da GC e “Possibilidade de gerenciamento“ da GI e da GC. Entretanto, não houve convergência dos participantes em relação aos critérios “Fenômenos centrais” da GC, “Nível de centralidade para a gestão estratégica“ da GC e “Influência da cultura organizacional sobre processos e resultados“ da GI. Este trabalho contribui para uma oportuna discussão, pois, ao passo que a inovação tem sido colocada como questão estratégica fundamental para a empresa, a contínua e dinâmica interação e gestão do conhecimento tácito e do conhecimento explícito ainda não estão suficientemente claras. Isso pode revelar que há terreno fértil para que sejam desenvolvidas ações específicas tanto no âmbito da GI, quanto da GC, a partir do melhor entendimento e da integração dos conceitos e práticas relacionados a cada um deles.

There are few reports in the literature of the absence of Wharton's Jelly. Here we report the seventh case in a primigravida, 22 years old, admitted after vaginal delivery of stillborn. The umbilical cord have a long segment with disruption of cord structures and the three blood vessels were completely separated from each other, with a minimum amount of Wharton's jelly remaining around each vessel. The absence of Wharton' jelly is associated with fetal distress, intrauterine growth restriction, and fetal death. Quantitative/qualitative studies of Wharton's jelly represent an open field of research for possible correlations with obstetric conditions and fetal deaths.

Relato do caso de uma paciente de 39 anos de idade com síndrome de Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser, apresentando doença do nó sinusal e necessidade de implante de marcapasso bicameral. Por se tratar de paciente jovem, sem outras causas secundárias de bradicardia, sugerese a hipótese de relação entre as duas doenças, visto que já há descrição de associação de síndrome de Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser e cardiopatias estruturais, sem referências de relação com bradicardia até o momento.

Emphysematous pyelonephritis is a rare infection characterized by necrosis and gas accumulation in the renal parenchyma, adjacent tissues, and/or urinary collecting system. This entity is rarely reported in transplanted kidneys. Computed tomography imaging is necessary for diagnosis and risk classification. The authors described the case of a 58-year-old man who underwent a kidney transplant and presented sepsis from a urinary tract infection. An abdominal tomography showed some characteristics of emphysematous pyelonephritis associated with an abscess. A graft biopsy, performed 45 days after the transplant, failed to show signs of infection, and tubule-interstitial and vascular rejection were ruled out. The patient had a poor outcome, and a nephrectomy was needed, the pathological analysis of which yielded the diagnosis of chronic pyelonephritis with necrotizing papillitis. The patient became hemodynamically unstable and died. The authors highlight the current tomographic criteria for the diagnosis and treatment of emphysematous pyelonephritis and question the validity of accepting the same standards used to guide the treatment of patients without transplants, and call attention to the importance of the clinical status for the indication of nephrectomy in cases of emphysematous pyelonephritis

Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a mesenchymal neoplasm that appears primarily in the pleura and rarely in intrapulmonary or endobronchial topography. The authors report the case of a 47-year-old woman who presented obstructive respiratory symptoms for 4 years. The chest computed tomography and bronchoscopy showed an obstructive polypoid lesion located between the trachea and the left main bronchus associated with distal atelectasis of the left lung. A resection of the lesion was performed and, macroscopically, the mass was oval, encapsulated, and firm, measuring 2.3 × 1.7 × 1.5 cm. Histology revealed low-grade mesenchymal spindle cell neoplasm, with alternating cellularity, myxoid areas, and mature adipose tissue outbreaks, as well as blood vessels with irregular walls. The immunohistochemical study was positive for CD34, CD99, and BCL2. The diagnosis was SFT in an unusual topography. The patient’s symptoms remitted after tumor excision, and no systemic problems were evident. SFTs primarily affect adults and often follow a benign course; however, their behavior is unpredictable. The presence of necrosis and mitotic activity may portend a poor prognosis. Endobronchial SFTs are rare but should be evaluated and monitored similar to SFTs at other sites, with a long-term follow-up

Sorubim trigonocephalus Miranda et Ribeiro, 1920 conhecido popularmente como chinelo, é uma espécie migratória, de importância econômica. Bastante apreciado na gastronomia por apresentar sabor agradável e sem ossos intermusculares (espinhos). Os exemplares foram coletados em um trecho no Rio Teles Pires, localizado no município de Alta Floresta/MT. Anestesiados e sacrificados em solução aquosa de benzocaína, fixados com solução de formoldeído a 10%, transferidos para o Laboratório de Anatomia Animal/Unemat para descrição das características da cavidade bucofaringeana. Esta espécie apresentou uma pré-maxila bem desenvolvida e cabeça achatada dorsoventralmente, boca localizada na porção ventral média da cabeça, com fenda bucal ampla. Os lábios superiores apresentaram pigmentação cinza escuro com pequenas áreas claras, sendo mais largos que os inferiores e não apresentaram pigmentação. Foram identificadas quatro regiões dentígeras na porção anterior da cavidade bucal e duas na região da faringe, todas com dentes viliformes. A porção posterior da cavidade bucal era limitada lateralmente por quatro pares de arcos branquiais que decresciam em tamanho do primeiro ao último par, crânio-caudal, formados por dois ramos: o superior, mais curto, e o inferior, mais longo. A cavidade bucofaringeana de S. trigonocephalus se mostrou semelhante à de outros teleósteos descritos na literatura, estando adaptado ao hábito alimentar com dieta carnívoro-ictiofágica e diferindo apenas pela ausência de língua estrutural com pré maxila bem desenvolvida apresentando dentes viliformes.

As pesquisas tradicionais sobre liderança fazem uso de uma abordagem atomizada, que desconsidera os efeitos de diferentes padrões (gestalts) do construto e prioriza a lógica de uma variável por vez. A partir dessa crítica, o objetivo no presente trabalho é analisar a relação de distintas gestalts (configurações) de liderança transformacional com o comprometimento organizacional. Para a consecução desse objetivo, foram analisados 331 questionários de funcionários de oito organizações do setor de serviços. O método de pesquisa é classificado como levantamento (survey), com amostragem não probabilística por conveniência. Para o tratamento dos dados, fez-se uso da técnica de modelagem de equações estruturais no processo de análise da validade e confiabilidade das escalas. Na sequência, a análise de cluster evidenciou três configurações de liderança, denominadas: desorientação, subliderança e conversão. Para a verificação da influência dessas gestalts sobre o comprometimento organizacional, foi testado um modelo linear generalizado - MANCOVA fatorial. Os resultados indicaram a relação entre as configurações de liderança transformacional e as dimensões afetiva, instrumental e normativa do comprometimento; entretanto, para o comprometimento instrumental, a relação é mediada pelo grau de instrução dos liderados. Por fim, são discutidas as implicações dos achados empíricos.
