Abstract

Esta investigación detalla la recopilación, análisis y procesamiento de resultados de diferentes aspectos de los puentes de la avenida 16 de abril sector la Concordia en la ciudad de Azogues, para estimar condiciones que permitan establecer factores que comprometan la estabilidad de los mismos. Para cumplir con los objetivos se determinan procesos de revisión de documentación existente, recopilación y generación de datos de los aspectos naturales, físicos y antrópicos que tienen influencia en la vida útil de un puente. El estudio determina las condiciones que influyen en la infraestructura y superestructura de los puentes, condiciones hídricas e hidrológicas, características del suelo en los límites definidos dados por la topografía. Entre los resultados de esta investigación están principalmente las afecciones que presenta el sector, uso del suelo, la resistencia del material de la zona, condiciones actuales de socavación, delimitación de la cuenca hidrográfica que influye en el flujo del agua así como también el caudal promedio del río; la investigación se empezó en septiembre del año 2018 y culminó en abril del 2022, todos estos aspectos permitieron determinar si los puentes de la avenida 16 de Abril sector la Concordia son estables; aunque adicionalmente se presentan otros criterios como la confiabilidad, nivel del servicio y estado de señalética que los puentes actualmente está brindando a los usuarios del sector y a la población de Azogues en general.

Abstract

Spintronics holds great potential for next-generation high-speed and low-power consumption information technology. Recently, lead halide perovskites (LHPs), which have gained great success in optoelectronics, also show interesting magnetic properties. However, the spin-related properties in LHPs originate from the spin-orbit coupling of Pb, limiting further development of these materials in spintronics. Here, we demonstrate a new generation of halide perovskites, by alloying magnetic elements into optoelectronic double perovskites, which provide rich chemical and structural diversities to host different magnetic elements. In our iron-alloyed double perovskite, Cs2Ag(Bi:Fe)Br6, Fe3+ replaces Bi3+ and forms FeBr6 clusters that homogenously distribute throughout the double perovskite crystals. We observe a strong temperature-dependent magnetic response at temperatures below 30 K, which is tentatively attributed to a weak ferromagnetic or antiferromagnetic response from localized regions. We anticipate that this work will stimulate future efforts in exploring this simple yet efficient approach to develop new spintronic materials based on lead-free double perovskites.

Abstract

Background Up to 30% of differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) will develop advanced-stage disease (aDTC) with reduced overall survival (OS). Objective The aim of this study is to characterize initial diagnosis of aDTC, its therapeutic management, and prognosis in Spain and Portugal. Methods A multicentre, longitudinal, retrospective study of adult patients diagnosed with aDTC in the Iberian Peninsula was conducted between January 2007 and December 2012. Analyses of baseline characteristics and results of initial treatments, relapse- or progression-free survival ((RP)FS) from first DTC diagnosis, OS, and prognostic factors impacting the evolution of advanced disease were evaluated. Results Two hundred and thirteen patients (median age: 63 years; 57% female) were eligible from 23 hospitals. Advanced disease presented at first diagnosis (de novo aDTC) included 54% of patients, while 46% had relapsed from early disease (recurrent/progressive eDTC). At initial stage, most patients received surgery (98%) and/or radioiodine (RAI) (89%), with no differences seen between median OS (95% CI) (10.4 (7.3–15.3) years) and median disease-specific-survival (95% CI) (11.1 (8.7–16.2) years; log-rank test P = 0.4737). Age at diagnosis being P P P Conclusion Identification of early treatment-dependent prognostic factors for an unfavourable course of advanced disease is possible. An intensified therapeutic attitude may reverse this trend and should be considered in poor-performing patients. Prospective studies are required to confirm these findings.

Abstract

El propósito de este trabajo fue determinar el efecto de un tratamiento térmico, en una atmósfera saturada de vapor de agua, en partículas de madera de la especie Laureliopsis philippiana. Las partículas fueron tratadas en autoclave a 150 ºC por 90 minutos y a una presión de 430 kPa, la cual se generó durante el proceso por la evaporación del agua en el autoclave herméticamente cerrado. Se determinaron la cantidad de extraíbles en soda, etanol tolueno, agua caliente y fría, así también, los porcentaje de celulosa, holocelulosa y lignina, el valor pH, los porcentajes de ácidos volátiles y solubles en agua, y la capacidad tampón, tanto para partículas sin tratamiento como con tratamiento. Para las partículas con tratamiento térmico, se encontró un aumento en el porcentaje de extraíbles, de celulosa, y de ácidos volátiles y lavables, así como también, un aumento de la acidez y de una mayor capacidad tampón, en comparación con las partículas sin tratamiento. El tratamiento térmico produjo un cambio de color en las partículas y una reducción de la humectabilidad. Debido a los cambios químicos encontrados en las partículas tratadas, estas presentarían ventajas en la fabricación de tableros de partículas, favoreciendo el fraguado de la ureaformaldehído. Abstract The purpose of this work was to determine the effect of a thermal treatment in a vapor water saturated atmosphere, on wood particles of Laureliopsis philippiana. The particles in autoclave at 150 ºC for 90 minutes and with a pressure of 430 kPa were thermally treated, the pressure generated by the evaporation of water in the sealed autoclave. The amount of extractives in soda, ethanol-toluene, cold and hot water, as well as, the percentages of cellulose, holocellulose and lignin, the pH value, the percentages of volatiles and washables acids, and buffer capacity, for both particles without and with treatment, were determined. In thermally treated particles an increase in the percentage of extractives, cellulose and volatiles and water soluble acids was found, as well as, in thermally treated particles an increment of acidity and a higher buffer capacity was found, in comparison with the particles without treatment. The thermal treatment produced a color change in the particles and a reduction in their wettability. Due to the chemical changes found in the treated particles they could present advantages in the particleboard production, allowing a better ureaformaldehyde polymerization.

The objective of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the combination therapy with vemurafenib/cobimetinib in terms of durability, and to describe differential characteristics in patients associated to durable responses in real-world settings.Patients and Methods: Retrospective, observational, cross-sectional, multicenter study involving 41 patients with advanced melanoma harboring a BRAFV600 mutation who initiated a combination therapy with vemurafenib/cobimetinib between May 2018 and March 2019. Participants were differentiated regarding the durability of the response: durable (complete response, CR, or a partial response, PR, for at least 12 months) and non-durable (stable disease, SD, progressive disease, PD, or CR/PR < 12 months). Secondary endpoints included treatment adherence, labor productivity, anxiety/depression, and safety profile.Results: During the combination therapy, 12 patients (29.3%) had a CR, 19 a PR (46.3%), 5 showed SD (12.2%), and 5 had PD. A total of 12 patients (29.3%) were considered as achieving a durable response and 29 (70.7%) as a non-durable one. Practically all sociodemographic and clinical characteristics were similar between patients. Body mass index was the only differential factor (with higher body mass index achieving a non-durable response). The treatment adherence was 100% in patients with durable response and 66.7% in those with non-durable.Conclusion: The combination treatment with vemurafenib/cobimetinib results in an important impact on long-term survival, leading to a steady CR in one-third of the patients.Keywords: vemurafenib, cobimetinib, BRAF, metastatic melanoma, durable response, clinical practice

Abstract

Background and objective: Patient-reported outcome measures can provide clinicians with valuable information to improve doctor-patient communication and inform clinical decision-making. The aim of this study was to evaluate the physician-perceived utility of the QLQ-GINET21 in routine clinical practice in patients with gastrointestinal neuroendocrine tumours (GI-NETs). Secondary aims were to explore the patient, clinician, and/or centre-related variables potentially associated with perceived clinical utility. Methods: Non-interventional, cross-sectional, multicentre study conducted at 34 hospitals in Spain and Portugal (NCT02853422). Patients diagnosed with GI-NETs completed two health-related quality of life (HRQoL) questionnaires (QLQ-C30, QLQ-GINET21) during a single routine visit. Physicians completed a 14-item ad hoc survey to rate the clinical utility of QLQ-GINET21 on three dimensions: 1)therapeutic and clinical decision-making, 2)doctor-patient communication, 3)questionnaire characteristics. Results: A total of 199 patients at 34 centres were enrolled by 36 participating clinicians. The highest rated dimension on the QLQ-GINET21 was questionnaire characteristics (86.9% of responses indicating "high utility"), followed by doctor-patient communication (74.4%), and therapeutic and clinical decision-making (65.8%). One physician-related variable (GI-NET patient volume > 30 patients/year) was associated with high clinical utility and two variables (older age/less experience treating GI-NETs) with low clinical utility. Conclusions: Clinician-perceived clinical utility of QLQ-GINET21 is high. Clinicians valued the instruments' capacity to provide a better understanding of patient perspectives and to identify the factors that had the largest influence on patient HRQoL.

Abstract

[ES] El modelo de la clase invertida o flipped classroom consiste en dar la vuelta a la organización del modelo tradicional docente, sacando la transmisión de conocimientos fuera del aula y dejar tiempo de aula para propiciar un aprendizaje más activo y profundo en el alumnado. En la presente innovación se estudió el impacto que tiene visualizar vídeos con preguntas incrustadas sobre el rendimiento final en la asignatura. Los resultados mostraron por un lado que existe una relación marginalmente significativa entre la visualización de vídeos y el rendimiento en la prueba final de la asignatura. Por otro, se halló una correlación positiva aunque moderada entre las puntuaciones obtenidas en las preguntas incrustadas en los vídeos y la puntuación en el examen final. Estos resultados concuerdan con la idea de que es posible lograr un procesamiento más profundo de la información y, por tanto, un mejor recuerdo de la misma, cuando se insertan preguntas a lo largo de los vídeos, [EN] The flipped classroom model consists on a re-arrangement of the traditional instructional model, in the sense that the lectures are placed out of the classroom whereas the classroom time is devoted to promote a more active and deeper learning in the students. This innovation was aimed to study the impact of viewing videos with questions embeded along it on the final achievent of the students. Results showed that there is a marginal relationship between watching videos and the score on the final test of the course. In addition, a possitive correlation between the scores obtained on the questions of the videos and the score on the final test was obtained. This results are in accordance with the idea that embeding questions along the videos leads to a more profound proccessing of the information, and therefore, a better learning.
