The present study investigated the utility and validity of the Social Emotional Health Survey-Higher Education (SEHS-HE) among Turkish students (N = 345) in higher education. Confirmatory factor analysis found acceptable data-model fit statistics for "a priori" SEHS-HE latent measurement models and its second-order "covitality" latent construct. The covitality latent construct was associated with higher levels of mental wellbeing, higher academic achievement, and lower levels of psychological symptoms. Findings provided preliminary evidence supporting the use of the SEHS-HE to measure Turkish university students' social-emotional strengths. Research is needed to further evaluate how the SEHS-HE can be used to inform prevention and intervention services on university campuses that aim to improve students' social, emotional, and mental health and wellbeing.

Despite the breadth and depth of educational neuroscience research and teachers' interest in neuroscience, teachers often have limited access to reputable sources. As a result, neuromyths--misapplied or over-simplified claims related to brain science--have proliferated. School Psychologists have training in education, applied neuroscience, and evidence-based practices. As such, school psychologists are poised to mitigate the negative impact of teacher neuromyth endorsement. This study examined the endorsement rate of neuromyths by teachers to identify knowledge gaps to inform future training in this area. In-service and preservice teachers from grades K-12 completed an online survey of common neuromyths. Many neuromyths are pernicious and continue to be endorsed by teachers, most commonly related to learning styles and multiple intelligences. These results support the need for increased training in neuroscience for teachers and suggest a desire for factual and useful information about educational neuroscience, which school psychologists can provide in educational contexts.

Many students require special education and programming to succeed in the classroom. This study analyzed international and national assessment teacher survey data regarding inclusive education to better characterize student classroom needs and teacher preparedness to support them. Most teachers indicated that they relied on teacher-based accommodations and some teachers did not have access to external resources. While many teachers did not indicate receiving adequate teacher training courses and professional development (PD) on inclusive education, results indicate students from classrooms in which teachers took inclusive education PD statistically significantly outperform their peers (F[1, 5.2] = 526.60, p < 0.05). As school psychologists support teachers in their classrooms to meet the needs of all their students, it is important for school psychologists to consider the minimal training and lack of PD attended by these teachers coupled with their relaxed attitude toward attending PD on teaching students with special needs.

Fishing industries around the world are currently undergoing a process of industrialization and commercialization. A similar story is unfolding in many fishing communities: large-scale industrial fishers who possess enormous capital and advanced technologies are threatening the lives of small-scale fisherfolk. The fishing industry in Lake Victoria exemplifies the detrimental impacts of economic globalization and evaluation of the role and status in this scenario is crucial for the future of Lake Victoria and its communities. According to the Lake Victoria Environmental Management Project, approximately one third of the combined populations of the three countries are supported by the lake's catchments; much of this livelihood is based on the fishery sector. Development of such a valuable natural resources carries grave implications for millions of lives. Women represent 70 to 80 percent of those involved in the fishing industry of Lake Victoria. Over the last twenty years, Lake Victoria's fishery sector has witnessed a rapid transformation from non-commercial, local-level fishing to a commercial, export-oriented fishing industry. Trade liberalization and industrialization have "left the local community entrenched in poverty." The aim of this study is to examine how local women fish traders have responded to global forces of development, specifically focusing on how their roles and statuses have shifted as a result of commercialization, industrialization, and trade liberalization.
