Essa pesquisa objetivou compreender os movimentos de inserção de mulheres na área de vigilância patrimonial privada na Região Metropolitana de Florianópolis. Empregando metodologia qualitativa, sua principal fonte de informação foram entrevistas realizadas com gestores/as de empresas prestadoras de serviços e mulheres que almejavam atuar no segmento. Observou-se que o imaginário social da vigilância ainda está atrelado à figura masculina e a inserção de mulheres dá-se de forma parcial, segmentada, coadjuvante e eivada de estereótipos de gênero e naturalizações. As mulheres que buscaram profissionalização na vigilância investiram numa mudança laboral e de vida, na maioria das vezes evadindo de trabalhos subalternos, mal remunerados, fisicamente desgastantes e socialmente relacionados ao feminino. Elas ansiavam romper padrões culturais estandardizados e conquistar status social auferido à identidade profissional da categoria. Apesar dos percalços, percebeu-se que mudanças tecnológicas e organizacionais efetivamente têm aberto espaço para a entrada de mulheres na vigilância privada

A migração internacional cresceu muito nas últimas décadas, tornando-se necessário uma compreensão, desse fenômeno, em diferentes esferas da vida humana. Este estudo objetiva investigar a probabilidade da presença de Transtornos Mentais Comuns (TMC) de imigrantes brasileiros e portugueses residentes na cidade de Genebra/Suíça, associado aos fatores nacionalidade, sexo, tipo e tempo de imigração. Trata-se de um estudo exploratório trabalhando com abordagem quantitativa, com uma amostra de 509 participantes submetidos ao questionário bio sociodemográfico e ao instrumento de Screening Self-Reporting Questionnarie. Os dados foram analisados através do pacote estatístico SPSS, utilizando-se a estatística descritiva e inferencial. Os resultados demonstraram que a probabilidade de presença de TMC foi de 43,73% entre as mulheres e 26,63% entre os homens; e, 63,69% entre os participantes com o menor tempo de imigração que revelaram uma diferença significativa (pchr(38)lt;0) para estas variáveis. Conceitos de aculturação e saúde mental são aportes teóricos que necessitam ser considerados tanto em pesquisas como em serviços de assistência que possam acolher e apoiar a população migrante no local de acolhimento

A violência é um problema de saúde pública que atinge diversas sociedades no contexto global. Tem caráter endêmico e pluridimensional, podendo ser representada de forma diferente entre as sociedades e seus grupos. Objetivou-se apreender as representações sociais da violência e da família elaboradas por crianças e adolescentes de João Pessoa, PB. A amostra compreendeu 180 crianças e adolescentes, submetidos ao questionário sociodemográfico e à técnica de associação livre de palavras. Os dados foram processados pelo software Tri-Deux-Mots. As representações sociais elaboradas pelos participantes apresentaram consensos e dissensos; as crianças ancoraram a violência em elementos psicossociais e aspectos concretos, enquanto os adolescentes associaram às consequências físicas e jurídicas do fenômeno. O universo compartilhado pelos participantes demonstrou as múltiplas faces da família, representada neste estudo de forma ambivalente. Isto é, a família foi objetivada como uma atmosfera de união e carinho, embora também configure um ambiente hostil perpassado por brigas

O estudo investigou a interrelação entre a depressão e o suicídio sob um enfoque psicossociológico, buscando apreender e descrever a estrutura central e periférica das representações sociais de estudantes de Psicologia, acerca dessas temáticas. A amostra foi composta por 233 estudantes de uma universidade pública do estado da Paraíba, do sexo feminino e masculino, matriculados em todos os períodos do curso e os instrumentos utilizados foram: o questionário sociodemográfico e a Associação Livre de Palavras, na qual foram usados dois estímulos indutores: depressão e suicídio. Os dados apreendidos por essa técnica foram processados com a utilização do programa computacional EVOC. As objetivações registradas, para o estímulo-indutor suicídio, foram expressamente carregadas do elemento depressão, no núcleo central. Do ponto de vista da representação social da depressão, os atores sociais investigados evocaram o suicídio no seu sistema periférico. Os achados parecem demonstrar uma estrutura representacional semelhante e interligada entre os fenômenos depressão e suicídio

A criminalidade e a violência praticada por adolescentes são atualmente, um problema social, político e institucional afligindo famílias e desafiado a sociedade política a apresentar respostas institucionais efetivas e eficazes. Objetivou identificar as representações sociais (RS) da prática socioeducativa de privação de liberdade. Para tanto a amostra foi não-probabilística e intencional construída de 115 adolescentes (institucionalizados em conflito com a lei e privados de liberdade), que responderam a um Teste de Associação Livre de Palavras. Os dados coletados foram submetidos à Análise de Fatorial de Correspondência pelo software tri-deux-mots. Os resultados predominam representações negativas da prática socioeducativa de privação de liberdade e da instituição ressocializadora, esses adolescentes atribuem significados a si mesmos, constituem suasubjetividade e definem seu papel enquanto sujeitos sociais. Urge uma compreensão da complexidade dos aspectos biopsicossociais da ressocialização de adolescentes institucionalizados

A depressão encontra-se associada às perturbações do humor de duração variáveis, que é em geral acompanhada por sintomas físicos e mentais, interferindo na forma de sentir, pensar e agir. Este estudo tem como objetivo identificar as representações sociais de crianças acerca da depressão através de uma abordagem transcultural. Participaram desse estudo crianças inseridas no contexto escolar brasileiro e português. Para tanto, utilizou-se os seguintes instrumentos: Children Depression Inventory (CDI) e Associação Livre de Palavras. Os resultados apontam uma prevalência da depressão em crianças brasileiras (11%) e portuguesas (14%). De forma consensual, a depressão emerge como sinônimo de tristeza, doença e choro. A pessoa deprimida é representada como angustiada, que chora, cabisbaixo, desanimada, sem amigo, como auto-imagem negativa (depreciativa), e que chora. Espera-se contribuir na compreensão da etiologia da depressão em contextos culturais diferenciados, bem como, na elaboração de estratégias preventivas para uma melhor qualidade de vida dessa população

Esta pesquisa objetivou compreender os aspectos psicossociais da vivência da soropositividade e suas conseqüências da vida diária. Participaram da amostra 13 sujeitos soropositivos para o HIV de ambos os sexos, com média de idade de 37 anos. Foi utilizada a técnica de entrevista em profundidade. O material foi categorizado pela análise de conteúdo temática de Bardin (1977). Os dados possibilitaram representações que ultrapassaram o aspecto biológico e atingiram o aspecto psicossocial (o preconceito, a segregação e o estigma). Essas representações influenciam e orientam as condutas destes atores sociais sejam em relação à adesão, ao isolamento, a manutenção das relações interpessoais e ao funcionamento sexual. A aids foi representada enquanto uma doença que pode trazer inúmeras conseqüências psicossociais, profissionais, familiares e orgânicas. Conclui-se na necessidade de formulação de estratégias na implementação de políticas públicas de educação e promoção em saúde com o intuito de minimizar o impacto psicossocial da aids

Este estudo investiga as representações sociais da velhice entre idosos de instituição de longa permanência (ILPI's) e de grupos de convivência (GCI's). Participaram 100 idosos destas instituições de ambos os gêneros, com média de idade 65 anos. Utilizou-se o teste de associação livre de paradas com estímulos indutores: velhice (E1) grupos da terceira idade/abrigos de idosos (E2) familia(E3), realizadas de forma individual no âmbito dos GCI's e ILPI's. Posteriomente, foi processado no software tri-deux-mots através de análise fatorial de correspoondência. Os dados apreendidos emergiram representações sociais da velhice pautada no sinônimo de doença, como também em uma auto-imagem negativa do seu processo de envelhecimento, sendo esta majoritária entre os idosos, sobretudo, das ILPI's. Sugere-se a necessidade de intervenções na prevenção e promoção em saúde desempenhado ações de forma positiva que contribuam para o envelhecimento ativo e bem sucedido

Background: The present study aimed to verify the proportion and factors associated with hospital-acquired malnutrition in the paediatric unit of a tertiary care hospital., Methods: A retrospective study was carried out in a tertiary care hospital in the state of Maranhão, Brazil. Demographic and clinical data on children and adolescents were collected from medical records and the data regarding weight, height and z-scores of anthropometric indicators were obtained from the World Health Organization (WHO) Anthro® and WHO Anthro Plus® applications. Those with weight-for-height z-score (< 5 years) and a body mass index (BMI)/age z-score (≥ 5 years) < -2 SD at admission were considered to be malnourished. Patients who presented a decrease of > 0.25 SD between the z-score of BMI-for-age (BMIZ) at admission and at discharge were classified as having hospital-acquired malnutrition. Weight loss was also evaluated and was considered significant when it was > 2% between the weight measured at admission and the one before discharge. Logistic regression analysis was performed to verify the factors associated with hospital-acquired malnutrition., Results: The median age was 4.7 years and the length of stay was 21 days; 26.8% of patients had significant weight loss during hospitalisation and a greater proportion had hospital-acquired malnutrition (34.9%). Gastroenteropathies, neuropathies and malnutrition on admission were significantly associated with hospital-acquired malnutrition., Conclusions: The occurrence of hospital-acquired malnutrition is still a problem in paediatric patients. Thus, providing adequate nutritional support from admission is essential when aiming to avoid deterioration of the nutritional status of paediatric patients during hospitalisation., (© 2022 The British Dietetic Association Ltd.)

Background/objectives: The use of malnutrition screening tools has been recommended to identify the risk of malnutrition among hospitalized children. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between the Screening Tool for Risk on Nutritional Status and Growth (STRONGkids), the Screening Tool for the Assessment of Malnutrition in Pediatrics (STAMP), and anthropometric nutritional parameters to identify malnutrition in hospitalized children., Subjects/methods: Data recorded in the nutrition sector for 672 pediatric patients hospitalized between 2019 and 2020 were used to complete the STRONGkids and STAMP tools. To test for associations, the chi-square test or Fisher-Freeman-Halton Exact Test were employed, accepting a p-value <0.05 as the threshold for significance. To determine agreement, the Kappa coefficient was applied., Results: Patients with a mean age of 5 years and 7 months were classified as at high nutritional risk by STRONGkids and STAMP in 10.1% (n = 68) and 24.3% (n = 163) of cases, respectively. A significant association (p < 0.05) was identified between all parameters studied for both tools. For STRONGkids, the chi-square test were as follows: BMI/Age, 69.707; Height/Age, 37.730; Weight/Age, 72.202; and Weight/Height, 60.595, whereas for STAMP, they were BMI/Age, 79.620; Height/Age, 75.246; Weight/Age, 91.034; and Weight/Height, 57.227. When compared, the two tools showed significant moderate agreement (κ = 0.448; p < 0.001)., Conclusions: STAMP classified a higher percentage of patients as being at high nutritional risk when compared with STRONGkids, and both tools had a significant association when compared with anthropometric parameters. Mutations affecting constitutive splice donor sites (5'ss) are among the most frequent genetic defects that disrupt the normal splicing process. Pre-mRNA splicing requires the correct identification of a number of cis-acting elements in an ordered fashion. By disrupting the complementarity of the 5'ss with the endogenous small nuclear RNA U1 (U1 snRNA), the key component of the spliceosomal U1 ribonucleoprotein, 5'ss mutations may result in exon skipping, intron retention or activation of cryptic splice sites. Engineered modification of the U1 snRNA seemed to be a logical method to overcome the effect of those mutations. In fact, over the last years, a number of in vitro studies on the use of those modified U1 snRNAs to correct a variety of splicing defects have demonstrated the feasibility of this approach. Furthermore, recent reports on its applicability in vivo are adding up to the principle that engineered modification of U1 snRNAs represents a valuable approach and prompting further studies to demonstrate the clinical translatability of this strategy.Here, we outline the design and generation of U1 snRNAs with different degrees of complementarity to mutated 5'ss. Using the HGSNAT gene as an example, we describe the methods for a proper evaluation of their efficacy in vitro, taking advantage of our experience to share a number of tips on how to design U1 snRNA molecules for splicing rescue., (© 2022. Background: Azopirillum brasilense is a plant-growth promoting nitrogen-fixing bacteria that is used as bio-fertilizer in agriculture. Since nitrogen fixation has a high-energy demand, the reduction of N 2 to NH 4 + by nitrogenase occurs only under limiting conditions of NH 4 + and O 2 . Moreover, the synthesis and activity of nitrogenase is highly regulated to prevent energy waste. In A. brasilense nitrogenase activity is regulated by the products of draG and draT. The product of the draB gene, located downstream in the draTGB operon, may be involved in the regulation of nitrogenase activity by an, as yet, unknown mechanism., Results: A deep in silico analysis of the product of draB was undertaken aiming at suggesting its possible function and involvement with DraT and DraG in the regulation of nitrogenase activity in A. brasilense. In this work, we present a new artificial intelligence strategy for protein classification, named ProClaT. The features used by the pattern recognition model were derived from the primary structure of the DraB homologous proteins, calculated by a ProClaT internal algorithm. ProClaT was applied to this case study and the results revealed that the A. brasilense draB gene codes for a protein highly similar to the nitrogenase associated NifO protein of Azotobacter vinelandii., Conclusions: This tool allowed the reclassification of DraB/NifO homologous proteins, hypothetical, conserved hypothetical and those annotated as putative arsenate reductase, ArsC, as NifO-like. An analysis of co-occurrence of draB, draT, draG and of other nif genes was performed, suggesting the involvement of draB (nifO) in nitrogen fixation, however, without the definition of a specific function.

Kalanchoe pinnata (KP) is popularly used for treating inflammatory diseases. This study investigated the antinociceptive, antiedematogenic, and anti-inflammatory potential of the subcutaneous administration of KP flower aqueous extract (KPFE), its ethyl acetate (EtOAcF) and butanol (BuOHF) fractions, and the main KP flavonoid [quercetin 3-O-α-L-arabinopyranosyl (1 → 2) α-L-rhamnopyranoside] (KPFV) in mice, as well as its possible mechanisms of action. KPFE (30-300 mg/kg) and KPFV (1-10 mg/kg) inhibited the acetic acid-induced writhing (ID50 = 164.8 and 9.4 mg/kg, resp.). KPFE (300 mg/kg), EtOAcF (12 mg/kg), BuOHF (15 mg/kg), or KPFV (0.3-3.0 mg/kg) reduced leukocyte migration on carrageenan-induced pleurisy (ID50 = 2.0 mg/kg for KPFV). KPFE (3-30 mg/kg) and KPFV (0.3-3.0 mg/kg) reduced the croton oil-induced ear edema (ID50 = 4.3 and 0.76 mg/kg, resp.). KPFE and KPFV reduced the TNF-α concentration in the pleural exudates on carrageenan-induced pleurisy test. Moreover, KPFV inhibited COX-1 (IC50 = 22.1 μg/mL) and COX-2 (IC50 > 50 μg/mL). The selectivity index (COX-1IC50 /COX-2IC50 ) was <0.44. These results indicate that KPFE and KPFV produced antinociceptive, antiedematogenic, and anti-inflammatory activities through COX inhibition and TNF-α reduction, revealing that the main flavonoid in KP flowers and leaves plays an important role in the ethnomedicinal use of the plant.

Antioxidant compounds protect plants against oxidative stress caused by environmental conditions. Different light qualities, such as UV-A radiation and blue light, have shown positive effects on the production of phenols in plants. Kalanchoe pinnata (Lamarck) Persoon (Crassulaceae) is used for treating wounds and inflammations. Some of these beneficial effects are attributed to the antioxidant activity of plant components. We investigated the effects of blue light and UV-A radiation supplementation on the total phenol content, antioxidant activity and chromatographic profile of aqueous extracts from leaves of K. pinnata. Monoclonal plants were grown under white light, white plus blue light and white plus UV-A radiation. Supplemental blue light improved the antioxidant activity and changed the phenolic profile of the extracts. Analysis by HPLC of supplemental blue-light plant extracts revealed a higher proportion of the major flavonoid quercetin 3-O-α-L-arabinopyranosyl (1→2) α-L-rhamnopyranoside, as well as the presence of a wide variety of other phenolic substances. These findings may explain the higher antioxidant activity observed for this extract. Introduction: Influenza viruses are common agents of flu outbreaks, epidemics, and pandemics that have occurred through the centuries. Prevention and control of flu are of great clinical importance, since they cause serious damage to health, with a consequent impact on quality of life and economy of a country. Resistance against the current drugs justifies the development of new anti-influenza molecules. Flavonoids exhibit significant activity against flu through their anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties. The profile of these molecules makes them particularly promising as therapeutic agents against flu., Areas Covered: This review focus on the activity of flavonoids on different influenza virus targets as well as their use in patented pharmaceutical formulations. Twenty-one patents of these compounds for prophylaxis and treatment of influenza infection are discussed., Expert Opinion: The H1N1 influenza pandemic in 2009 resulted in a significant increase in the number of patents claiming pharmaceutical formulations for prophylaxis and treatment of flu. The research advances on flavonoids showing anti-influenza activity and the efforts made by researchers and industries consolidate the interest on new alternatives for the therapy of an infectious disease that represents a serious public health problem throughout the world.

The chemical composition and immunosuppressive potential of the flowers from Kalanchoe pinnata (Crassulaceae) were investigated. We found that the aqueous flower extract was more active than the leaf extract in inhibiting murine T cell mitogenesis in vitro. Flavonoids isolated from the flower extract were identified and quantitated based on NMR and HPLC-DAD-MS analysis, respectively. Along with quercetin, four quercetin glycosyl conjugates were obtained, including quercetin 3-O-beta-D-glucuronopyranoside and quercetin 3-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside, which are described for the first time in K. pinnata. All flavonoids inhibited murine T cell mitogenesis and IL-2 and IL-4 production without cell toxicity. This is the first report on the pharmacological activity of flowers of a Kalanchoe species, which are not used for curative purposes. Our findings show that K. pinnata flowers are a rich source of T-suppressive flavonoids that may be therapeutically useful against inflammatory diseases.

Insect oocytes grow in close association with the ovarian follicular epithelium (OFE), which escorts the oocyte during oogenesis and is responsible for synthesis and secretion of the eggshell. We describe a transcriptome of OFE of the triatomine bug Rhodnius prolixus, a vector of Chagas disease, to increase our knowledge of the role of FE in egg development. Random clones were sequenced from a cDNA library of different stages of follicle development. The transcriptome showed high commitment to transcription, protein synthesis, and secretion. The most abundant cDNA was a secreted (S) small, proline-rich protein with maximal expression in the vitellogenic follicle, suggesting a role in oocyte maturation. We also found Rp45, a chorion protein already described, and a putative chitin-associated cuticle protein that was an eggshell component candidate. Six transcripts coding for proteins related to the unfolded-protein response (UPR) by were chosen and their expression analyzed. Surprisingly, transcripts related to UPR showed higher expression during early stages of development and downregulation during late stages, when transcripts coding for S proteins participating in chorion formation were highly expressed. Several transcripts with potential roles in oogenesis and embryo development are also discussed. We propose that intense protein synthesis at the FE results in reticulum stress (RS) and that lowering expression of a set of genes related to cell survival should lead to degeneration of follicular cells at oocyte maturation. This paradoxical suppression of UPR suggests that ovarian follicles may represent an interesting model for studying control of RS and cell survival in professional S cell types., (Copyright © 2011 Elsevier Ltd. We report here the first six cases of leprosy associated with HLA-identical allogeneic SCT in different phases and with different findings and outcomes. Skin and peripheral nerves may be sites of leprosy associated with SCT, stressing the importance of differential diagnosis between leprosy and GVHD or drug reactions. Clinical manifestations of leprosy before or after transplantation did not influence the outcome of SCT in our cases.

Bone marrow is a heterogeneous cell population which includes hematopoietic and mesenchymal progenitor cells. Dysregulated hematopoiesis occurs in chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), being caused at least in part by abnormalities in the hematopoietic progenitors. However, the role of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in CML has not been well characterized. The objectives of the present study were to observe the biological characteristics of MSCs from CML patients and to determine if MSCs originate in part from donors in CML patients after bone marrow transplantation (BMT). We analyzed MSCs from 5 untreated patients and from 3 CML patients after sex-mismatched allogeneic BMT. Flow cytometry analysis revealed the typical MSC phenotype and in vitro assays showed ability to differentiate into adipocytes and osteoblasts. Moreover, although some RT-PCR data were contradictory, combined fluorescence in situ hybridization analysis showed that MSCs from CML patients do not express the bcr-abl gene. Regarding MSCs of donor origin, although it is possible to detect Y target sequence by nested PCR, the low frequency (0.14 and 0.34%) of XY cells in 2 MSC CML patients by fluorescence in situ hybridization analysis suggests the presence of contaminant hematopoietic cells and the absence of host-derived MSCs in CML patients. Therefore, we conclude that MSCs from CML patients express the typical MSC phenotype, can differentiate into osteogenic and adipogenic lineages and do not express the bcr-abl gene. MSCs cannot be found in recipients 12 to 20 months after BMT. The influence of MSCs on the dysregulation of hematopoiesis in CML patients deserves further investigation.
