Posterior urethral valves (UPVs) are congenital obstructive membranous folds that represent the main cause of bilateral renal obstruction and dysuria in children and infants. The seriousness of this malformative uropathy lies in the importance of its impact on the upper urinary tract with a significant risk of end-stage renal failure. The objective of this work is to report our experience on the management of this pathology, for this we carried out a retrospective and descriptive study over a period of 5 years, from January 2018 to December 2022, including all hospitalized patients or seen in consultation at the pediatric surgery unit of Hôpital du Mal. The parameters studied were demographic, clinical, radiological and therapeutic variables. We collected 10 patients, an average of 2 patients per year and a frequency of 0.38%. The infant age group was the most represented, i.e. 80% of cases. The average age of our patients was 9.1 months with extremes of 2 days and 48 months. The most common reason for consultation was dysuria with 60% of cases. Overflow urination was the most frequent functional sign. Fever was present in 90% of cases. Abdominal distension was present in nearly half of our patients and acute urinary retention in 30% of cases. All our patients underwent cytobacteriological examination of urine. It was positive in 4 patients, i.e. 40% of cases. THE. Coli was the majority germ. All our patients performed retrograde urethrocystography (UCR) and objectified a dilation of the posterior urethra in all patients. Surgical treatment concerned all our patients. The FOGARTHY technique was used in 9 patients and a vesicostomy was performed in one patient. In the immediate therapeutic follow-up, 1 patient died in intensive care, 3 patients presented with sepsis, one of whom subsequently died. After an 8-month follow-up, the consequences are simple in all our patients.

The authors report on their experiences in the surgical treatment of simple umbilical hernia in African children and a focus on pathology in resource-limited settings. However, this pathology pose a real aesthetic problem especially in young girls but surgery is the salvating treatment with good results.

Une stratégie de gestion intégrée des insectes nuisibles à la culture de la patate douce a été élaborée pour réduire les pertes dues à ceux-ci. Ainsi, les propriétés répulsives des extraits de feuilles et d’amandes de neem ont été évaluées sur Cylas puncticollis, un charançon de la patate douce. Pour ce faire, quatre concentrations d’extraits ont été préparées à raison de quatre répétitions par concentration. Le test a consisté à la détermination du pourcentage de charançons présents dans la zone traitée. Chacune des concentrations d’extraits a été appliquée sur la moitié d’un papier buvard placé dans une boite de Pétri de 9 cm de diamètre et sur lequel 10 charançons ont été posés. Les effets répulsifs des extraits ont été comparés à ceux d’un insecticide chimique et l’eau distillée. Le test avec 20 cL/L d’extraits de feuilles a causé 85 % de répulsion contre 45 % pour les amandes à 25 g/L. Les extraits ont significativement causé plus de répulsion que l’eau distillée et l’insecticide chimique. Les tests ont révélé un potentiel plus répulsif des extraits de feuilles comparé à celui des amandes. Les extraits de neem pourraient constituer une alternative crédible à la lutte chimique pour la protection de la patate douce contre ce charançon. English title: Evaluation of the repellent effect of neem extracts (Azadirachta indica A. Juss., 1830) on the sweet potato weevil (Cylas puncticollis Boheman, 1833) under laboratory conditions in Korhogo, northern Côte d’Ivoire Abstract An integrated pest management strategy for sweet potatoes has been developed to reduce pest losses. Thus, the repellent properties of neem leaf and kernel extracts were evaluated on Cylas puncticollis, a sweet potato weevil. For this purpose, four concentrations of extracts were prepared with four replicates per concentration. The test consisted of determining the percentage of weevils in the treated area. Each of the extract concentrations was applied to half of a blotting paper placed in 9 cm diameter Petri dishes on which 10 weevils were placed. The repellent effects of the extracts were compared to those of a chemical insecticide and distilled water. Test with 20 cL/L leaf extract caused 85% repellence compared to 45% for almonds at 25 g/L. Compared to the chemical insecticide and distilled water, the extracts caused significantly more repellence. The tests revealed a higher repellent potential of the leaf extracts compared to those of almonds. INTRODUCTION: Autosomal recessive cerebellar ataxias (ARCA) are a group of rare and heterogynous neurodegenerative diseases mainly characterized by unbalance and walking difficulty and movement incoordination. OBJECTIVES: To clinically and paraclinically characterize ARCA in the department of Neurology at the Teaching Hospital of Point G and identify the underlying genetic defect. PATIENTS AND METHOD: We have conducted a longitudinal and prospective study from January 2018 to December 2020. Patients with ARCA phenotype seen in the Department of Neurology at the Teaching Hospital of Point “G” were enrolled. RESULTS: We have enrolled 7 families totaling 13 patients after giving an informed verbal and written consent. The sex ratio was 2.2 in favor of males, Kayes region and Fulani ethnic group were respectively the most represented region and ethnic group.Walking difficulty represented the major symptom followed by loss of vibration and joint sense, nystagmus, dysarthria and skeletal deformities. Alpha-foetoprotein level was high in one patient. Genetic testing confirmed Friedreich ataxia in one family and was not conclusive in 4 families. CONCLUSION: This study showed that ARCA are not uncommon in Mali and genetic testing is crucial to confirm the diagnosis.

Sacrococcygeal teratoma (TSC) is an embryonic tumor with high potential for congenital malignant transformation. It is rare and therefore considered a neonatal surgical emergency. The authors report a case of sacrococcygeal teratoma whose mother did not follow up during pregnancy and the delivery took place at home and who comes for consultation six months after his birth. It emerges from this case that the delay in diagnosis was due to the lack of financial means in the periphery, the extreme surgery could be performed with simple post-operative follow-ups. The result of the anatomopathological examination of the surgical specimen concluded to a benign teratoma. The patient could not be reassessed in the medium and long term because he is lost of seen.

La présente étude a été menée dans la région de Daloa (Côte d’Ivoire) pour produire un fertilisant bioorganique et identifier les genres de termites impliqués dans cette production. Des pièges ont été constitués avec des résidus de maïs où une série de six observations, espacées de 3 jours ont été effectuées pour collecter les termites en activité, déterminer le poids des résidus dégradés et évaluer les quantités de fertilisant bio-organique produites à partir de l’activité des termites. Les résultats de l’étude montrent que la dégradation des résidus de maïs est en partie liée à l’abondance des termites sur le site de production et à la quantité de résidus soumise à la dégradation. Au total 5 genres de termites (G. Ancistrotermes, G. Macrotermes, G. Odontotermes, G. Pseudacanthotermes et G. Trinervitermes) appartenant essentiellement à 2 groupes trophiques les champignonnistes et les fourrageurs sont impliqués dans la production du fertilisant bio-organique. Les quantités de fertilisant produites sont difficiles à évaluer sur la base de la masse des résidus dégradés. Cependant, ces deux paramètres semblent positivement corrélés. The present study was carried out in the region of Daloa (Côte d’Ivoire) to produce a bio-organic fertilizer and to identify the genera of termites involved in this production. Traps were set up with corn residues where a series of six observations, spaced 3 days apart were made to collect active termites, determine the weight of degraded residues and assess the quantities of bio-organic fertilizer produced from termite activity. The results of the study show that the degradation of corn residue is partly related to the abundance of termites at the production site and the amount of residue subjected to degradation. In total 5 genera of termites (G. Ancistrotermes, G. Macrotermes, G. Odontotermes, G. Pseudacanthotermes and G. Trinervitermes) belonging mainly to 2 trophic groups the fungus and foragers are involved in the production of bio-organic fertilizer. The quantities of fertilizer produced are difficult to estimate on the basis of the mass of degraded residues. However, these two parameters seem to be positively correlated.

BACKGROUND: Progressive Myoclonic Epilepsy (PME) is a heterogeneous group of pathologies associating epileptic seizures and other neurological and non-neurological disorders. OBJECTIVES: We aim to characterize patients with symptoms of PME and identify the underlying genetic disorder. METHODS: After informed consent, the patients seen in the protocol for hereditary neurological diseases and presenting signs of epilepsy without a secondary cause were clinically evaluated over a three-year period in the Department of Neurology of the CHU Point “G”. EEG, brain imaging and laboratory tests were performed to consolidate our diagnosis. DNA was extracted for genetic analysis. RESULTS: 141 families including five families with PME totaling eight cases were enrolled. The predominant symptoms in our patients were myoclonus in 87.5% (N = 8), followed by GTCS and cognitive impairment in 50%, each. A notion of parental consanguinity was found in 60% and autosomal recessive transmission evoked in 80% (N = 5). The EEG was pathological in 62.5% and imaging showed ponto-cerebellar atrophy in 25% (N = 8). The combination of sodium valproate and clonazepam was the main treatment. One case of death was recorded. CONCLUSION: We report cases of PME in Mali with a possibility of discovering new genes.

Les fractures-décollements épiphysaires traumatiques de l’extrémité distale du fémur constituent des lésions rares [1] dont la gravité est liée aux séquelles invalidantes à type d'inégalité de longueur de membre ou le plus souvent de déviation axiale. Le traitement chirurgical vise à autoriser une mobilisation précoce du genou. La chirurgie effectuée essentiellement par la technique d’embrochage ou de vissage, à foyer ouvert ou mieux à foyer fermé peut être source de complications notamment la migration des broches, les infections, la raideur du genou, les troubles de la croissance. Le but de ce travail était de décrire leurs aspects épidémiologiques, anatomo-cliniques, thérapeutiques et évolutifs dans le service d’orthopédie et traumatologie de l’hôpital régional de Ségou qui est un hôpital de référence de la région en matière de pathologie orthopédique et traumatologique. Il s’agissait d’une étude observationnelle prospective sur 49 mois de mars 2015 à mars 2019. Elle avait concerné 32 patients présentant un décollement épiphysaire traumatique du fémur distal survenu dans un délai inférieur ou égal à 21 jours, sur un genou sain à cartilage fertile traité chirurgicalement et suivi dans le service. Le diagnostic de décollement épiphysaire traumatique du fémur distal avait été retenu grâce à l'examen clinique et complété par les clichés radiographiques du genou de face et de profil. Le traitement était chirurgical. Les résultats fonctionnels avaient été évalués selon les critères fonctionnels de la Société d’Orthopédie Traumatologie de l’Est (SOTEST). A ces critères, nous avons ajouté, l’amyotrophie. Elle a été mesurée de manière comparative par la circonférence de la cuisse à 10 cm au-dessus de la base de la patella. Trente-deux atients ont été colligés dont 24 garçons et 8 filles d’âge moyen de 12 ans avec des extrêmes de 8 ans et 16 ans. Les lésions classées selon de Salter Harris nous ont permis de noter 22% de type I (n=7), type II 72% (n=23), type III 3% (n=1), type IV 3% (n=1).Le traitement chirurgical consistait en la réduction associée à une ostéosynthèse : La fixation osseuse avait été réalisée par des broches de Kirschner de diamètre 22 en « X » dans 28 cas (type I n=7, type II n=21), par des vis spongieuses 6,5 dans 2 patients (type II n=1, Type III n=1), et par des broches de Kirschner et vis à os spongieux dans 2 cas (type II n=1, Type IV n=1). La consolidation avait été obtenue chez tous les patients dans un délai moyen de 6 semaines avec des extrêmes de 4 et 12 semaines. Le résultat fonctionnel était jugé bon dans 15% des cas et très bon dans 85%. This study aims to provide improved knowledge and evidence on current (1986&ndash, 2015) climate variation based on six rainfall indices over five West African countries (Senegal, Niger, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, and Benin) using the Climate Hazards Group InfraRed Precipitation with Station (CHIRPS) dataset. On average, precipitation has increased over the central Sahel and the western Sahel. This increase is associated with increase in the number of rainy days, longer wet spells and shorter dry spells. Over the Guinea Coast, the slight increase in precipitation is associated with an increase in the intensity of rainfall with a shorter duration of wet spells. However, these mean changes in precipitation are not all statistically significant and uniform within a country. While previous studies are focused on regional and sub-regional scales, this study contributes to deliver a climate information at a country level that is more relevant for decision making and for policy makers, and to document climate-related risks within a country to feed impact studies in key sectors of the development, such as agriculture and water resources.

This study was conducted in the Bandama watershed (BW) in Cote d'Ivoire (West Africa). The objective is to analyze hydrological dynamics and hydropower generation in BW in a context of climate change. The methodology is based on the Inverse Distance Weighted (IDW) used to interpolate rainfall and on statistical tests (Normality, Buishand, Pettitt and Hubert) applied on hydrometeorological and hydrometric data to analyze the hydrological functioning of BW. Hydropower generation at Kossou dam was analyzed with Pearson Chi square independence method according to Representative Concentration Pathways (RCP) 4.5 and 8.5 scenarios of CMIP5 (coupled model intercomparison project phase 5) and CORDEX-AFRICA (coordinated regional climate downscaling experiment). The results showed the variability of rainfall as well monthly, seasonal as annual from 1980 to 2013; the hydroclimatic variability in the basin characterized by the presence of breaks in stationarity in 1998 and 2008, and the variability of flow. The Buishand and Pettitt tests described these two ruptures. The segmentation of Hubert specified three sub-periods. The results also showed that there is an alternation of wet and dry periods followed by a slight resumption. The climate projection scenarios RCP 4.5 and 8.5 have shown that the change in the variability of rainfall and flow in the BW will have a negative impact on hydropower generation at Kossou from 2030 to 2050.
