5. Validation of the Argentine version of the epistemic trust, mistrust, and credulity questionnaire.

Abstract

Epistemic trust refers to the trust in communicated knowledge, specifically an individual's ability to regard knowledge conveyed by others as meaningful, relevant to oneself, and applicable to other contexts. This area has received considerable attention in recent psychological literature, though predominantly from a theoretical perspective. The main objective of this study was to test the factorial validity of the Epistemic Trust, Mistrust, and Credulity Questionnaire (ETMCQ) on an Argentine setting. Based on two studies (Study 1, n = 1018; Study 2, n = 559), the factorial structure of the instrument and its internal consistency were examined (S1 Appendix). In the second study, the factorial structure was confirmed, test-retest reliability was analysed, and associations between epistemic stances and sociodemographic variables, hypomentalisation, attachment styles, childhood traumatic experiences, and anxious-depressive symptomatology were explored. A satisfactory three-factor solution with 15 items and residual correlations was found in both studies, with stable scores over time. Significant positive correlations were found with anxious and fearful-avoidant attachment, hypomentalisation, childhood traumatic experiences, and psychopathological symptomatology. Post-hoc analysis revealed that, on the one hand, gender acts as a moderator in the relationship between hypomentalisation and epistemic mistrust. On the other hand, economic level and educational level moderate the relationship between hypomentalisation and epistemic credulity. Measurement invariance across gender was tested and found satisfactory, with significant differences subsequently observed in the epistemic trust factor. In conclusion, the Argentine version of the ETMCQ provides an empirical measure for use in non-clinical samples. Its application could facilitate clinically and theoretically relevant findings. Critically, there is growing evidence that these individual differences are related to math skills as early as in preschool and kindergarten (Duncan et al., 2007). This supports the view that math learning is incremental, such that early skills provide the foundation for later skills (Geary, 2013). This also suggests that early foundational numeracy might be an important target for interventions that aim to increase mathematical skills (Heckman, 2011). The goal of the present study is to test the effectiveness of a 10-week large-scale tablet-based intervention for French children from disadvantaged backgrounds. The intervention has two main foundations. First, the tablet carries a dedicated application that we have developed to promote the development of early numerical cognition following guidance from cognitive research and didactic research on mathematics, presenting children with a progression from non-symbolic to symbolic skills, from concrete to abstract manipulations of quantities and two uses of the numbers : the number as a measure of a quantity (3 tokens) or it can be out of practical context from quantities and units of measurement, detached from concrete situations (e.g. Croset & Gardes, 2019 ; Hodgen et al., 2020; Margolinas & Wozniak, 2014). Second, the tablet enables teachers to continuously assess the progression of each child and tailor instruction in response to feedback from the tablet, in line with the suggestion that such iterative process improves math learning (Raudenbush et al., 2020). The study will include an experimental and a control group. While children from the experimental group will be exposed the tablet-based intervention for 10 weeks, children from the control group will not (i.e., they will be exposed to business-as-usual math instructions). Children’s math skills will be evaluated before (T1) and immediately after the 10-week intervention (T2) with a test developed for the purpose of the study (the ENUDIT, see below). All children will also complete a national evaluation of math skills (évaluations nationales) when they enter 1st grade, i.e., approximately 4 months after the intervention (T3). This will provide a delayed post-test.

Abstract

Auteurs : RADIANCE-HTN Investigators; International audience; Importance Although early trials of endovascular renal denervation (RDN) for patients with resistant hypertension (RHTN) reported inconsistent results, ultrasound RDN (uRDN) was found to decrease blood pressure (BP) vs sham at 2 months in patients with RHTN taking stable background medications in the Study of the ReCor Medical Paradise System in Clinical Hypertension (RADIANCE-HTN TRIO) trial. Objectives To report the prespecified analysis of the persistence of the BP effects and safety of uRDN vs sham at 6 months in conjunction with escalating antihypertensive medications. Design, Setting, and Participants This randomized, sham-controlled, clinical trial with outcome assessors and patients blinded to treatment assignment, enrolled patients from March 11, 2016, to March 13, 2020. This was an international, multicenter study conducted in the US and Europe. Participants with daytime ambulatory BP of 135/85 mm Hg or higher after 4 weeks of single-pill triple-combination treatment (angiotensin-receptor blocker, calcium channel blocker, and thiazide diuretic) with estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) of 40 mL/min/1.73 m 2 or greater were randomly assigned to uRDN or sham with medications unchanged through 2 months. From 2 to 5 months, if monthly home BP was 135/85 mm Hg or higher, standardized stepped-care antihypertensive treatment starting with aldosterone antagonists was initiated under blinding to treatment assignment. Interventions uRDN vs sham procedure in conjunction with added medications to target BP control. Main Outcomes and Measures Six-month change in medications, change in daytime ambulatory systolic BP, change in home systolic BP adjusted for baseline BP and medications, and safety. Results A total of 65 of 69 participants in the uRDN group and 64 of 67 participants in the sham group (mean [SD] age, 52.4 [8.3] years; 104 male [80.6%]) with a mean (SD) eGFR of 81.5 (22.8) mL/min/1.73 m 2 had 6-month daytime ambulatory BP measurements. Fewer medications were added in the uRDN group (mean [SD], 0.7 [1.0] medications) vs sham (mean [SD], 1.1 [1.1] medications; P = .045) and fewer patients in the uRDN group received aldosterone antagonists at 6 months (26 of 65 [40.0%] vs 39 of 64 [60.9%]; P = .02). Despite less intensive standardized stepped-care antihypertensive treatment, mean (SD) daytime ambulatory BP at 6 months was 138.3 (15.1) mm Hg with uRDN vs 139.0 (14.3) mm Hg with sham (additional decreases of −2.4 [16.6] vs −7.0 [16.7] mm Hg from month 2, respectively), whereas home SBP was lowered to a greater extent with uRDN by 4.3 mm Hg (95% CI, 0.5-8.1 mm Hg; P = .03) in a mixed model adjusting for baseline and number of medications. Adverse events were infrequent and similar between groups. Conclusions and Relevance In this study, in patients with RHTN initially randomly assigned to uRDN or a sham procedure and who had persistent elevation of BP at 2 months after the procedure, standardized stepped-care antihypertensive treatment escalation resulted in similar BP reduction in both groups at 6 months, with fewer additional medications required in the uRDN group. Abstract

The goals of this project are twofold: First, this project will examine the measurement invariance of the Level of Personality Functioning Scale - Brief Form 2.0 (LPFS-BF 2.0) across a broad range of countries (35 countries) and languages (20 languages), as well as the measurement invariance of the World Health Organization’s Quality of Life Brief Scale (WHOQOL-BREF; WHOQOL Group, 1998), the Personality Disorder Severity ICD-11 scale (PDS-ICD-11; Bach et al., 2021), and the Tightness-Looseness Scale (TLS; Gelfand et al., 2011). The latter measurement invariance investigations are included in this project for the purposes of (a) assessing the suitability of these measures for describing and comparing our samples; (b) assessing their appropriateness as outcome criteria to be used when evaluating the predictive invariance of the LPFS-BF 2.0; and (c) offering evidence pertaining to these instruments’ applicability for international research and application. The second goal of this project is to examine the LPFS-BF 2.0’s predictive invariance regarding three established constructs. The specific constructs were selected based on their well-established associations with personality dysfunction and include quality of life (e.g., Cramer et al., 2006), personality disorder severity (e.g., Bach & Anderson, 2020), and history of mental health services (e.g., Cruitt et al., 2019).

Abstract

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-fifth Edition's (DSM-5) Level of Personality Functioning Scale (LPFS) was introduced as a dimensional rating of impairments in self- and interpersonal functioning, and the LPFS-Brief Form (LPFS-BF) was the first published corresponding self-report. The updated LPFS-BF 2.0 has been translated into several languages and international research supports many of the instrument's psychometric properties; however, its measurement invariance has only been evaluated across a few countries. This study expands previous studies as an introductory step in a global evaluation of the LPFS-BF 2.0s measurement invariance. Archival data (N = 5,618, 57% female) from seven countries (Canada, Chile, Denmark, Germany, Italy, United Arab Emirates, United States of America) were used for this study. Participants were recruited from both community (n = 4,677) and student (n = 941) populations. After confirming adequate model fit separately in the community and student samples, we evaluated a series of increasingly stringent model comparisons to test three aspects of measurement invariance (configural, metric, scalar) and then examined latent mean differences across countries. Full scalar invariance was supported in the community sample and partial scalar invariance was supported in the student sample. Evaluation of latent mean differences revealed multiple significant differences. Overall, the LPFS-BF 2.0 appears to assess self- and interpersonal functioning impairment similarly across the included countries. Findings are discussed through the lenses of the cultures from which participants were recruited, as well as in the context of alternative explanations. Limitations, plans for future research, and implications for both research and clinical practice are offered.
