The largest concentration of babassu palms in Brazil is found in the state of Maranhão, most of which are located on private rural properties. The owners of these lands, in turn, end up discrediting the presence of babassu in their production areas and routinely opt for its removal. In parallel to this are the coconut breakers, who through the collection and/or processing of babassu obtain their income, which can be compromised if the palm is eradicated. Currently, there is Law nº 4734 of June 18, 1986, the free babassu law, aimed at the preservation of babassu trees and, to ensure compliance with the laws within agricultural properties, alternatives are sought that reconcile the presence of babassu and a productive system. In this sense, the agrosilvopastoral system has great potential to promote profitable and sustainable production, showing itself as a viable alternative for the development of livestock in the face of babassu preservation. Thus, the objective of this research was to identify the challenges, advantages and reflexes of agrosilvopastoral systems in areas with a predominance of babassu and livestock in Pindaré Mirim-MA. For that, the methodology used presents a qualitative approach research, as for the purposes it is a descriptive research, as for the means it was developed from a bibliographic survey that allowed a more detailed approach to the subject in question. Therefore, the results show that the preservation of babassu and the implementation of the agrosilvopastoral system present several benefits of an environmental, social and economic nature, such as the diversification of production, reduction of soil degradation, increase in biodiversity, carbon sequestration, recycling of nutrients, maintenance of coconut breakers' income, etc. In this context, it is evident that the permanence of babassu in pastures reflects in advantages for both coconut breakers and ranchers. Therefore, it was evidenced through the above how advantageous can be the adhesion and use of the agrosilvopastoral system in areas with predominance of babassu and livestock production. La mayor concentración de palmas de babasú en Brasil se encuentra en el estado de Maranhão, la mayoría de las cuales están ubicadas en propiedades rurales privadas. Los propietarios de estas tierras, a su vez, acaban desacreditando la presencia del babasú en sus zonas de producción y optan rutinariamente por su retirada. Paralelamente a esto están los quebradores de coco, quienes a través de la recolección y/o procesamiento del babasú obtienen sus ingresos, los cuales pueden verse comprometidos si se erradica la palma. Actualmente, existe la Ley nº 4734 del 18 de junio de 1986, ley del babasú libre, cuyo objetivo es la preservación de los árboles de babasú y, para garantizar el cumplimiento de las leyes dentro de las propiedades agrícolas, se buscan alternativas que concilien la presencia del babasú y un sistema productivo. En este sentido, el sistema agrosilvopastoril tiene un gran potencial para promover una producción rentable y sostenible, mostrándose como una alternativa viable para el desarrollo de la ganadería de cara a la conservación del babasú. Así, el objetivo de esta investigación fue identificar los desafíos, ventajas y reflejos de los sistemas agrosilvopastoriles en áreas con predominio de babasú y ganadería en Pindaré Mirim-MA. Para ello, la metodología utilizada presenta una investigación con enfoque cualitativo, ya que para los fines es una investigación descriptiva, en cuanto a los medios se desarrolló a partir de un levantamiento bibliográfico que permitió un acercamiento más detallado al tema en cuestión. Por lo tanto, los resultados muestran que la preservación del babasú y la implementación del sistema agrosilvopastoril presentan varios beneficios de carácter ambiental, social y económico, tales como la diversificación de la producción, reducción de la degradación del suelo, aumento de la biodiversidad, secuestro de carbono, reciclaje de nutrientes, mantenimiento de los ingresos de las quebradoras de coco, etc. En este contexto, se evidencia que la permanencia del babasú en los pastos se refleja en ventajas tanto para los quebradores de coco como para los ganaderos. Por lo tanto, se evidenció a través de lo anterior cuán ventajosa puede ser la adhesión y uso del sistema agrosilvopastoril en zonas con predominio del babasú y la producción ganadera. A maior concentração de palmeiras de babaçu do Brasil se encontra no estado do Maranhão, as quais em sua maioria se encontram localizadas em propriedades rurais privadas. Os donos dessas terras, por sua vez, acabam por descredibilizar a presença do babaçu em suas áreas de produção e optam, rotineiramente, pela remoção desta. Em paralelo a isso estão as quebradeiras de coco, que por meio da coleta e/ou beneficiamento do babaçu obtêm sua renda, a qual pode ser comprometida caso a palmeira seja erradicada. Atualmente tem-se a Lei nº 4734 de 18 de junho de 1986, a lei do babaçu livre, voltada para a preservação dos babaçuais e, para assegurar o cumprimento das leis dentro das propriedades agropecuárias busca-se alternativas que conciliem a presença do babaçu e um sistema produtivo. Nesse sentido, o sistema agrossilvipastoril apresenta grande potencial para promover uma produção lucrativa e sustentável, mostrando-se como uma alternativa viável para desenvolvimento da pecuária face à preservação do babaçu. Assim o objetivo dessa pesquisa foi identificar os desafios, vantagens e reflexos dos sistemas agrossilvipastoris em áreas com predomínio de babaçuais e pecuária em Pindaré Mirim-MA. Para tanto, a metodologia utilizada apresenta uma pesquisa de abordagem qualitativa, quanto aos fins é uma pesquisa descritiva, quanto aos meios foi desenvolvido a partir de levantamento bibliográfico que possibilitou a abordagem mais detalhada do tema em questão. Diante disso, os resultados mostram que a preservação do babaçu e a implantação do sistema agrossilvipastoril apresentam diversos benefícios de cunho ambiental, social e econômico, tais como a diversificação da produção, redução da degradação do solo, aumento da biodiversidade sequestro de carbono, ciclagem de nutrientes, manutenção da renda das quebradeiras de coco, etc. Nesse contexto, fica evidente que a permanência do babaçu nas pastagens reflete em vantagens tanto para as quebradeiras de coco, quanto para os pecuaristas. Por conseguinte, foi evidenciado através do exposto o quão vantajoso pode ser a adesão e utilização do sistema agrossilvipastoril em áreas com predominância de babaçuais e produção pecuária.

Trata-se de uma pesquisa desenvolvida ante a importância do estudo do procedimento extrajudicial de solução de conflitos oriundos das relações de consumo que contribuem para desafogar o judiciário da morosidade da justiça comum, que em especial enfatiza a atuação do PROCON como órgão administrativo que adota método alternativo de resolução de conflitos em relações consumeristas buscando pacificar as relações de consumo, justapondo aos direitos constitucionais como acesso à justiça, direito de defesa, devido processo legal, e da assistência jurídica gratuita, visando oferecer atendimento gratuito diante da vulnerabilidade do consumidor, conciliando o amparo de uma alternativa mais célere à processual. Nesse contexto, o objetivo geral é analisar a importância do PROCON como órgão administrativo de solução de conflitos consumeristas e o índice de acordos obtidos pelo PROCON Do Município de Itaperuna. Será verificada a incidência de acordos na aplicação dos procedimentos extrajudiciais como meios alternativos de resolução de conflitos com destaque na atuação do PROCON no Município de Itaperuna/RJ. Justifica-se a abordagem pela importância de se levantar dados para demonstrar o alto índice de resolução de conflitos obtidos de forma administrativa pelo PROCON, fato que contribui para a celeridade e satisfação dos consumidores. Vale-se de metodologia qualitativa por meio dos autores GAMA, Hélio Zaghetto (2000); FILOMENO, José Geraldo Brito (2007); CABRAL, Hildeliza Boechat (2016), dentre outros, cujos estudos abordam a temática em análise, além de leis como o Código de Defesa do Consumidor, Código Civil Brasileiro, Constituição Federal e outras que contribuem para enriquecimento do conteúdo. Utiliza-se ainda metodologia quantitativa para análise de dados obtidos por meio de pesquisa documental e gráficos fornecidos pelo PROCON.

Seaweeds as a staple diet has been used in Asian countries for thousands of years. However, in countries like Brazil, consumption of seaweeds as food is still very small due to many reasons. One is the lack of data on Brazilian seaweed’s proximate food composition. This data are very important to any activity related to food science and human nutrition area. The objective of this work was to analyze the chemical composition of the green seaweed Caulerpa cupressoides var. flabellata, collected in two different beaches of the coast of Rio Grande do Norte (Camapum and Búzios). The data showed that the salinity of the water on these two beaches is quite different: The water salinity of Camapum was around 40.5 ppm whereas in Buzios beach was 33.7 ppm. Despite this, the proximate composition of C. cupressoides did not change with increased salinity. Moreover, interestingly, it has low amount of lipids and high amount of proteins, greater even than other edible seaweeds, which indicates that C. cupresoides could be used as protein source for human and animal diet. Macroalgas marinhas são consumidas em grande quantidade em países asiáticos. Contudo, o seu consumo em países ocidentais, como o Brasil, ainda é muito baixo por várias razões. Uma delas é a falta de informações sobre a composição centesimal das macroalgas brasileiras. Este dado é importante para o uso de um alimento em várias atividades relacionadas com as áreas de nutrição humana e ciências dos alimentos. Neste trabalho, objetivou-se analisar a composição química, através do método de composição centesimal, da macroalga verde Caulerpa cupressoides var. flabellata, coletada em duas diferentes praias do litoral do Rio Grande do Norte (Camapum e Búzios). Os dados mostraram que a salinidade da água dessas duas praias é bem distinta: em Búzios é de 33,7 ppm; em Camapum, 40,5 ppm. Apesar disso, a composição centesimal da C. cupressoides não variou com a salinidade. Ainda, foi possível observar uma baixa quantidade de lipídios e uma alta quantidade de proteínas em C. cupressoides, nesse caso, maior até do que aquela encontrada em outras algas comestíveis. Os dados apontam que C. cupressoides poderia ser uma fonte alternativa de baixo custo de proteínas, tanto para uso em nutrição animal, como humana.

In this study, we aimed to synthesize silver nanoparticles containing fucans from Dictyota mertensii (Martius) Kützing using an environmentally friendly method and to characterize their structure as well as antiproliferative, immunomodulatory, and antibacterial effects. Fucan-coated silver nanoparticles (FN) were characterized by Fourier-transform infrared analysis, dynamic light scattering, zeta potential, atomic force microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometry. They were evaluated for their effect on cell viability, minimum inhibitory bactericidal concentration, and release of nitric oxide and cytokines. The FN were successfully synthesized using an environmentally friendly method. They were size-stable for 16 months, of a spherical shape, negative charge (19.1 mV), and an average size of 103.3 43 nm. They were able to inhibit the proliferation of the melanoma tumor cell line B16F10 (60%). In addition, they had immunomodulatory properties: they caused an up to 7000-fold increase in the release of nitric oxide and cytokines (IL-10; IL-6 and TNF- ) up to 7000 times. In addition, the FN showed inhibitory effect on Gram-positive and -negative bacteria, with MIC values of 50 g/mL. Overall, the data showed that FN are nanoparticles with the potential to be used as antitumor, immunomodulatory, and antibacterial agents. v.8 (1) n.6

OPTN silencing impairs IRF3 signaling after RLR or TLR3 activation. (A) HEK293T cells were transfected with a control nonspecific siRNA (NS) or with five individual OPTNspecific siRNAs (OPTN A, B, C, D and E) or a NEMO-specific siRNA. Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior In recent years, sulfated polysaccharides (SP) from marine algae have emerged as an important class of natural biopolymers with potential pharmacology applications. Among these, SP isolated from the cell walls of red algae have been study due to their anticoagulant,antithrombotic and anti-inflammatory activities. In the present study, three sulfated polysaccharides fractions denominated F1.5v, F2.0v and F3.0v were obtained from seaweed G. caudate by proteolysis followed to acetone fractionation. Gel electrophoresis using 0.05 M 1,3-diaminopropane-acetate buffer, pH 9,0, stained with 0.1% toluidine blue, showed the presence of SP in all fractions. The chemical analysis demonstrated that all the fractions are composed mainly of galactose. These compounds were evaluated in anticoagulant, antioxidant and antiproliferative activities. In anticoagulant activity evaluated through aPTT and PT tests, no one fractions presented anticoagulant activity at tested concentrations (0.1 mg/mL; 1.0 mg/mL; 2.0 mg/mL).The antioxidant activities of the three fractions were evaluated by the following in vitro systems: Total antioxidant capacity, superoxide and hydroxyl radical scavenging, ferrous chelating activity and reducing power. The fractions were found to have different levels of antioxidant activity in the systems tested. F1.5v shows the highest activity, especially in the ferrous chelating system, with 70% of ferrous inhibiting at 1.0 mg.mL-1. Finally, all the fractions showed dose-dependent antiproliferative activity against HeLa cells. The fractions F1.5v and F2.0v presented the highest antiproliferative activity at 2.0 mg/mL with 42.7% and 37.0% of inhibition, respectively. Ours results suggests that the sulfated polysaccharides from seaweed G. caudata are promising compounds in antioxidant and/or antitumor therapy Nos últimos anos, os polissacarídeos sulfatados de algas marinhas têm emergido como uma importante classe de biopolímeros naturais com potenciais aplicações farmacológicas. Dentre estas, os polissacarídeos sulfatados de algas vermelhas tem sido extensivamente estudados, principalmente devido seu potencial anticoagulante, antitrombótico e antiinflamatório. Neste estudo, três frações de polissacarídeos sulfatados, denominadas F1,5v, F2,0v e F3,0v, foram extraídas da alga vermelha Gracilaria caudata, através de proteólise, seguida de fracionamento com acetona. Eletroforese em gel de agarose em Tampão PDA mostrou a presença de polissacarídeos sulfatados em todas as frações. As análises químicas demonstraram que todas as frações são compostas principalmente de galactose. Esses compostos foram testados para as atividades anticoagulante, antioxidante e antiproliferativa. Na atividade anticoagulante avaliada através de kits comerciais de aPTT e PT, nenhuma das frações apresentou atividade nas concentrações testadas (0,1; 0,5 e 1,0 mg/mL). A atividade antioxidante das frações polissacarídicas foi avaliada através de diversos ensaios in vitro: Capacidade antioxidante total, seqüestro de radical superóxido e hidroxila, quelação férrica e poder redutor. As frações apresentaram diferentes níveis de atividade antioxidante nos sistemas testados. A fração F1,5v apresentou a maior atividade antioxidante, principalmente no ensaio de quelação férrica, com cerca de 70,00% de inibição na concentração de 1,0 mg/mL. Finalmente, todas as frações apresentaram atividade antiproliferativa dose-dependente frente a linhagem celular tumoral HeLa. As frações F1,5v e F2,0v apresentaram as maiores atividades antiproliferativa na concentração de 2,0 mg/mL, com 42,70% e 37,00% de inibição da proliferação celular em relação ao controle. Nossos resultados sugerem que os polissacarídeos sulfatados de G. caudata são promissores fármacos na terapia antioxidante e/ou antiproliferativa
