This paper examines the probability of switching residences over a two-year period for Los Angles County Residents. Using data from the Los Angeles Family and Neighborhood Survey and discrete-time hazard models, differences in the probability of movement are examined for native-born, legal, and illegal residents. Analyses indicate that the native-born and legal immigrants do not differ in the probability of movement. However, illegal immigrants are significantly more likely to have moved than their legal counterparts. These differing probabilities of movement are primarily explained by differences in the cohort of arrival and differences in economic characteristics. More recent arrivals are most likely to move than those from earlier cohorts. Future analyses will take neighborhood-level characteristics into account in explaining differences in the probability of movement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
