These literary works have been translated for the first time in Italian language by Michela Graziani in this volume. The Italian translation provides the Italian reader to appreciate the poetry style of António Correia and to approach this fascinating Portuguese author of our contemporary age.

Abstract

The volume here presented aims to commemorate the Portuguese poet António Correia a year after his death with the translation, for the first time in Italian language, of two collections of sonnets: Deideia and Amagao meu amor, both edited in Macao in 1992. The translation, together with some notes and the essay included in the volume are accompained by personal memories of two Portuguese dear friends of Correia. The volume thus structured aims to introduce the traveling and Eastern Lusitanian soul of António Correia who lived in Macao for almost twenty years. At the same time, the volume aims to present for the first time, through other bio-bibliographical details, the man and the poet António Correia, even now not well known in the Italian and Portuguese academia.

Abstract

Bimanual handovers are crucial for transferring large, deformable or delicate objects. This paper proposes a framework for generating kinematically constrained human-like bimanual robot motions to ensure seamless and natural robot-to-human object handovers. We use a Hidden Semi-Markov Model (HSMM) to reactively generate suitable response trajectories for a robot based on the observed human partner's motion. The trajectories are adapted with task space constraints to ensure accurate handovers. Abstract

Model inversion attacks (MIAs) aim to create synthetic images that reflect the class-wise characteristics from a target classifier's private training data by exploiting the model's learned knowledge. Previous research has developed generative MIAs that use generative adversarial networks (GANs) as image priors tailored to a specific target model. This makes the attacks time- and resource-consuming, inflexible, and susceptible to distributional shifts between datasets. To overcome these drawbacks, we present Plug & Play Attacks, which relax the dependency between the target model and image prior, and enable the use of a single GAN to attack a wide range of targets, requiring only minor adjustments to the attack. Moreover, we show that powerful MIAs are possible even with publicly available pre-trained GANs and under strong distributional shifts, for which previous approaches fail to produce meaningful results. Our extensive evaluation confirms the improved robustness and flexibility of Plug & Play Attacks and their ability to create high-quality images revealing sensitive class characteristics., Comment: Accepted by ICML 2022

Abstract

When a soil is subjected to cyclic loading, there are changes in the material's geomechanical behaviour that need to be characterised before safely designing any future projects. In terms of cyclic loading, it is important to characterise not only the failure of the soil but also its behaviour before failure, in particular the yield point and the elastic behaviour of the material. This study examines the effects of the number of loading cycles on the behaviour of a chemically stabilised soft soil with a particular focus on the yield surface. To this end, a series of triaxial tests were performed on specimens, previously or not subjected to a different number of loading cycles (1000–100 000). The results were analysed in terms of the evolution of accumulated permanent axial strain, the yield surface and stress–strain behaviour. It was observed that an increase in the number of loading cycles promoted: an increase in the permanent axial strain, an increase in the undrained resilient modulus, a shrinkage of the yield surface but its shape is maintained, and there is a small increase in the peak strength of the stabilised soil explained by the strain-hardening effect induced by the cyclic loading.
