The article discusses real-life practitioners of the occult in Elizabethan and Jacobean times. The article also examines the depiction of the occult practitioners in the theater, specifically the differences between real occultists and their theatrical counterparts. The article cites the book "Malleus Maleficarum," written in the late 15th century by Dominican Inquisitors Heinrich Kramer and James Sprenger. The increase in witchcraft trials in the 17th century is also discussed.
