Knowledge of the influence of different drought durations during the terminal growth stages on net photosynthetic rate (Pn), transpiration rate (Tr), transpiration efficiency (TE), and tuber fresh weight (economic yield) is relatively limited in Jerusalem artichoke. Our aim was to examine the effect of different drought durations during the terminal growth stages on Pn, Tr, TE, and economic yield in Jerusalem artichoke genotypes with different ranges of drought tolerance. A two-year field experiment was established in the northeast of Thailand. A split-plot design replicated four times was used. Three water treatments, optimal conditions (SD0), short-drought (SD1), and long-drought (SD2) durations during the terminal growth stages, were arranged as main plots. Six genotypes (HEL256, JA37, HEL253, JA4, JA60, and JA125) are subplots. Different durations of drought in SD1 and SD2 reduced Pn, Tr, and economic yield, while drought stress during the terminal growth stages increased TE in whole genotypes over SD0 treatments. Drought-tolerant genotypes JA125 and JA4 exhibited high Pn, medium TE, and low economic yield reduction under SD2. Utilization of these superior parents in breeding could lead to the generation of new progenies with high economic yield productivity and drought tolerance during the long drought duration during the terminal growth stage. In addition, high SPAD chlorophyll meter readings (SCMR) in SD1 and SD2 and low specific leaf area (SLA) in SD1 could be used as indirect selection traits to survey high Pn genotypes in Jerusalem artichoke. Consequently, these indirect selection traits may allow for speedy breeding programs in Jerusalem artichokes.

We deployed field-based high-throughput phenotyping (HTP) techniques to acquire trait data for a subset of a peanut chromosome segment substitution line (CSSL) population. Sensors mounted on an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) were used to derive various vegetative indices as well as canopy temperatures. A combination of aerial imaging and manual scoring showed that CSSL 100, CSSL 84, CSSL 111, and CSSL 15 had remarkably low tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV) incidence, a devastating disease in South Georgia, USA. The four lines also performed well under leaf spot pressure. The vegetative indices showed strong correlations of up to 0.94 with visual disease scores, indicating that aerial phenotyping is a reliable way of selecting under disease pressure. Since the yield components of peanut are below the soil surface, we deployed ground penetrating radar (GPR) technology to detect pods non-destructively. Moderate correlations of up to 0.5 between pod weight and data acquired from GPR signals were observed. Both the manually acquired pod data and GPR variables highlighted the three lines, CSSL 84, CSSL 100, and CSSL 111, as the best-performing lines, with pod weights comparable to the cultivated check Tifguard. Through the combined application of manual and HTP techniques, this study reinforces the premise that chromosome segments from peanut wild relatives may be a potential source of valuable agronomic traits.

This article assists administrators who want to ensure their libraries are inclusive of people with disabilities but don't know where to start. We argue that organizations should understand not only the basic dimensions of ADA law but also dimensions of disability. They should also become familiar with multiple domains of disability and proactively incorporate reflective questions posed by researchers and advocates into the library space planning process. Peanut, a high-oil crop with about 50% oil content, is either crushed for oil or used as edible products. Fatty acid composition determines the oil quality which has high relevance to consumer health, flavor, and shelf life of commercial products. In addition to the major fatty acids, oleic acid (C18:1) and linoleic acid (C18:2) accounting for about 80% of peanut oil, the six other fatty acids namely palmitic acid (C16:0), stearic acid (C18:0), arachidic acid (C20:0), gadoleic acid (C20:1), behenic acid (C22:0), and lignoceric acid (C24:0) are accounted for the rest 20%. To determine the genetic basis and to improve further understanding on effect of FAD2 genes on these fatty acids, two recombinant inbred line (RIL) populations namely S-population (high oleic line 'SunOleic 97R' × low oleic line 'NC94022') and T-population (normal oleic line 'Tifrunner' × low oleic line 'GT-C20') were developed. Genetic maps with 206 and 378 marker loci for the S- and the T-population, respectively were used for quantitative trait locus (QTL) analysis. As a result, a total of 164 main-effect (M-QTLs) and 27 epistatic (E-QTLs) QTLs associated with the minor fatty acids were identified with 0.16% to 40.56% phenotypic variation explained (PVE). Thirty four major QTLs (>10% of PVE) mapped on five linkage groups and 28 clusters containing more than three QTLs were also identified. These results suggest that the major QTLs with large additive effects would play an important role in controlling composition of these minor fatty acids in addition to the oleic and linoleic acids in peanut oil. The interrelationship among these fatty acids should be considered while breeding for improved peanut genotypes with good oil quality and desired fatty acid composition.
