1. The integration of idioms of distress into mental health assessments and interventions: a systematic review.

Abstract

BackgroundPsychiatric diagnostic manuals recognise the importance of local expressions of distress in culturally diverse settings [i.e. idioms/cultural concepts of distress (CCDs)], yet there is a lack of consensus on how these should be incorporated into mental health related research.AimsTo perform a narrative synthesis and critical review of research exploring how idioms/CCDs have been integrated into assessment measures and interventions.MethodA systematic review was conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. An adapted version of the COSMIN checklist was used to assess the quality of the linguistic translation of the idioms/CCDs.ResultsTwenty-nine papers were included in the final review. Primary qualitative research was the most common method of gathering information about idioms/CCDs. The majority of studies described integrating idioms/CCDs into assessment measures as opposed to interventions. Some studies used information relating to idioms/CCDs to develop novel assessment measures, while others adapted pre-existing assessment measures. The measures generated moderate to high levels of validity. Information relating to the linguistic translation conducted in the completion of the studies tended to be inadequately reported.ConclusionsIntegrating information about idioms/CCDs into assessment measures can enhance the validity of these assessments. Allocating greater research attention to idioms/CCDs can also promote more equitable exchanges of knowledge about mental health and wellbeing between the Global North and the Global South.

2. Overview and status of the 0.5NA EUV microfield exposure tool at Berkeley Lab

Abstract

A 0.5-NA extreme ultraviolet micro-field exposure tool has been installed and commissioned at beamline 12.0.1.4 of the Advanced Light Source synchrotron facility at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Commissioning has demonstrated a patterning resolution of 13 nm half-pitch with annular 0.35-0.55 illumination; a patterning resolution of 8 nm half-pitch with annular 0.1-0.2 illumination; critical dimension (CD) uniformity of 0.7 nm 1σ on 16 nm nominal CD across 80% of the 200 um x 30 um aberration corrected field of view; aerial image vibration relative to the wafer of 0.75 nn RMS and focus control and focus stepping better than 15 nm.

Abstract

The Berkeley MET5, funded by EUREKA, is a 0.5-NA EUV projection lithography tool located at the Advanced Light Source at Berkeley National Lab. Wavefront measurements of the MET5 optic have been performed using a custom in-situ lateral shearing interferometer suitable for high-NA interferometry. In this paper, we report on the most recent characterization of the MET5 optic demonstrating an RMS wavefront 0.31 nm, and discuss the specialized mask patterns, gratings, and illumination geometries that were employed to accommodate the many challenges associated with high-NA EUV interferometry.

Abstract

The dominant background source for germanium gamma ray detector spectrometers used for some astrophysics observations is internal beta decay. Externally segmented germanium gamma ray coaxial detectors can identify beta decay by localizing the event. Energetic gamma rays interact in the germanium detector by multiple Compton interactions while beta decay is a local process. In order to recognize the difference between gamma rays and beta decay events, the external electrode (outside of detector) is electrically partitioned. The instrumentation of these external segments and the consequence with respect to the spectrometer energy signal is examined.

Abstract

This paper describes an encapsulation technology that should significantly improve the viability of germanium gamma-ray detectors for a number of important applications. A specialized vacuum chamber has been constructed in which the detector and the encapsulating module are processed in high vacuum. Very high vacuum conductance is achieved within the valveless encapsulating module. The detector module is then sealed without breaking the chamber vacuum. The details of the vacuum chamber, valveless module, processing, and sealing method are presented.

25. The development of a new continuous dyeing method based on an aerosol delivery system

Abstract

A continuous method of dyeing polyester yarn has been developed in which yarn is forced into a moving plug within apparatus based on the Fibre-M texturing system. Dye is then applied in droplet form to the yarn plug. The method relies on the dispersion of low-molecular-weight disperse dyes in a solvent medium to provide a uniform application to the core of the plug. The demands of the textile industry require an extension of the method to a wider range of dye types in a water-based medium. This paper describes a feasibility study of an aerosol method of dye application to a yarn plug.

31. A 2D smart pixel detector for time resolved protein crystallography

Abstract

A smart pixel detector is being developed for Time Resolved Crystallography for biological and material science applications. Using the Pixel Detector presented here, the Laue method will enable the study of the evolution of structural changes that occur within the protein as a function of time. The X-ray pixellated detector is assembled to the integrated circuit through a bump bonding process. Within a pixel size of 150/spl times/150 /spl mu/m/sup 2/, a low noise preamplifier-shaper, a discriminator, a 3 bit counter and the readout logic are integrated. The read out, based on the Column Architecture principle, will accept hit rates above 5/spl times/10/sup 8//cm/sup 2//s with a maximum hit rate per pixel of 1 MHz. This detector will allow time resolved Laue crystallography to be performed in a frameless operation mode, without dead time. Target specifications, architecture and preliminary results on the 8/spl times/8 front-end prototype and the column readout are presented.

32. WATER/AIR-JET TEXTURING.

Abstract

This study investigates the use of an alternative fluid to air in core-effect texturing. Preliminary trials have been performed to develop a method to produce textured yarns using a high kinetic energy liquid such as water, as an alternative to a gas such as air. It is claimed that in air-jet texturing, filaments are opened up by shock waves generated by supersonic airflow. However, the same technology cannot be applied with water since it is a non-compressible liquid and the sonic velocity in water is about 1500 meters per minute, which is quite outside the range of practical velocities for a liquid flow. Methods had to be developed to get turbulence in the water flow in order to entangle core and effect filaments in the texturing process. Texturing jets using water on its own and water with air have been developed. One advantage of high pressure water is that it can be harnessed to generate compressed air in the jet using a water pump effect. From Bernoulli's principle, it is known that high pressure water flow has an ability to suck air through a capillary from the outside atmosphere. The principle was used to increase the turbulence in water by mixing air with water inside the intermingling jet.

33. FALSE-TWIST TEXTURING A NEW APPROACH.

Abstract

This study focuses on how to use pressurised labyrinth seals to contain a variety of fluids, including water, around a running thread line. With appropriate design of jet, continuous filament yarns can be twisted to very high levels and with 167 f34 polyester, twist levels as high as 2900 tpm can be achieved at speeds of 1500 to 2000 meters/minute. Such levels of twist are as high as one can go, before secondary twisting of the already twisted yarn sets in. They are in fact the levels needed for satisfactory false-twist texturing. In the false-twisting work, heating has been carried out using either superheated steam or hot compressed air. The heat content of the steam is higher than that of air, so with steam lower texturing temperatures can be used. However, in terms of the final product there is still difference between the two media. As there are no moving parts and because filament yarns are very strong, jet twisting avoids breaking filaments and is a very gentle process that can be used at high speeds with sensitive yarns. Jet twisting by the use of water, combined with prior steam or hot air heating provides a new route for the exploration of problems in the field of false-twist texturing.
