Contrasting the extensive research on summer atmospheric rivers (ARs) in the Antarctic Peninsula (AP), winter AR impacts are less understood. This study examines a unique warming event from 1 to 3 July 2023, using in situ winter observations and ERA5 reanalysis. On 2 July, Frei station experienced an extreme warm event with a temperature of 2.7°C and a significant rise in the freezing level, coinciding with winter rainfall. A pressure dipole pattern over the AP, with contrasting circulations over Bellingshausen and Weddell Seas, facilitated an AR, carrying warm, humid air initially from South America/Atlantic and then the southeast Pacific. This shift resulted in anomalous water stable isotope composition in precipitation. Trends suggest a strengthening winter pressure dipole, associated with increased AR frequency and higher temperatures in northern AP. These findings highlight the importance of winter observations in exploring AR impacts, bridging knowledge gaps about winter AR behaviors. La reciente emergencia de síndrome de distrés respiratorio agudo producido por coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), enfermedad denominada COVID-19 ha traído la atención mundial a la búsqueda de conocimiento sobre este virus y su patogenia. La respuesta inmune es esencial para controlar y erradicar la infección, sin embargo, las respuestas inmunes descontroladas pueden resultar en la fisiopatología de la enfermedad grave. Lograr una comprensión más profunda de la interacción entre SARS-COV-2 y el sistema inmune de los huéspedes podría ayudar a anticiparnos al desarrollo de una inflamación pulmonar persistente causada por el SARS-CoV-2, y por qué no, ser la puerta de entrada al éxito terapéutico e intentar salvar mayor número de vidas. En esta revisión, proporcionamos una actualización sobre la virología y nuestra visión de la patogenia, entendiéndola desde las fases o etapas de la infección, sin olvidar el estallido de citoquinas resultantes de la interacción del virus con los receptores ACE2 ampliamente distribuidos en el organismo.

Aims: This is a rapid review examining the available evidence about the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic on the refugee population. Methods: A search in the databases such as PubMed, Scopus, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and Web of Science was conducted and all relevant original articles, letters, and editorial and policy papers were included. Results: From 208 publications matching the search criteria, 36 were included. These publications were categorized into three distinct domains: Public Health, Policies and Financing, and Technology. Our findings revealed that the situation of the refugee population has worsened during the pandemic. Difficulty accessing healthcare, violation of human rights, lack of access to technology devices, unfavorable government policies, and economic crisis were the most important aspects impacted by COVID-19. Conclusion: Governments, health managers, health professionals, and policy makers should be aware of refugees' problems during the pandemic to provide immediate solutions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Additionally, ED overcrowding has been linked to increased nurse turnover rates. Therefore, this study aimed to assess nurses’ perceived causes and effects of overcrowding in the EDs of five tertiary hospitals in Saudi Arabia.Methods: This study used a descriptive cross-sectional design. We surveyed 311 nurses working in the EDs of five tertiary hospitals in Saudi Arabia using the convenience sampling technique. The self-administered questionnaires used in the study were developed by the researchers. The study was conducted from October 16 to November 10, 2022. Consensus-Based Checklist for Reporting of Survey Studies was followed.Results: The results revealed that the primary perceived causes of ED overcrowding in five tertiary hospitals were unnecessary visits due to a lack of standard procedures (mean = 2.70; SD = 0.58) and lack of inpatients beds (mean = 2.69; SD = 0.65). The perceived effect of overcrowding was stress and burnout among nurses (mean = 2.85; SD = 0.47). The perceived causes and effects of overcrowding in the ED were found to be highly significant (p < 0.001) based on Pearson correlation and Spearman’s rank correlation.Conclusion: Unnecessary visits due to a lack of standard procedures lead to overcrowding. In addition, a lack of inpatient beds in the ED affects the care provided to patients seeking immediate medical attention. This may prolong patient waiting time, causing their conditions to deteriorate and prolonging hospital stay. Overcrowding leads to increased stress and burnout among nurses. The results of this study can be used to develop a comprehensive action plan to address ED overcrowding and its effects on patients, staff, and ED flow.Keywords: nurses, overcrowding, patient safety, quality of care, stress, burnout, staff turnover
