- Abstract
Aims: We introduce ReSurveyEurope — a new data source of resurveyed vegetation plots in Europe, compiled by a collaborative network of vegetation scientists. We describe the scope of this initiative, provide an overview of currently available data, governance, data contribution rules, and accessibility. In addition, we outline further steps, including potential research questions. Results: ReSurveyEurope includes resurveyed vegetation plots from all habitats. Version 1.0 of ReSurveyEurope contains 283,135 observations (i.e., individual surveys of each plot) from 79,190 plots sampled in 449 independent resurvey projects. Of these, 62,139 (78%) are permanent plots, that is, marked in situ, or located with GPS, which allow for high spatial accuracy in resurvey. The remaining 17,051 (22%) plots are from studies in which plots from the initial survey could not be exactly relocated. Four data sets, which together account for 28,470 (36%) plots, provide only presence/absence information on plant species, while the remaining 50,720 (64%) plots contain abundance information (e.g., percentage cover or cover–abundance classes such as variants of the Braun-Blanquet scale). The oldest plots were sampled in 1911 in the Swiss Alps, while most plots were sampled between 1950 and 2020. Conclusions: ReSurveyEurope is a new resource to address a wide range of research questions on fine-scale changes in European vegetation. The initiative is devoted to an inclusive and transparent governance and data usage approach, based on slightly adapted rules of the well-established European Vegetation Archive (EVA). ReSurveyEurope data are ready for use, and proposals for analyses of the data set can be submitted at any time to the coordinators. Still, further data contributions are highly welcome.

Plant Science - Abstract
Trees of the Mimosoideae are dominant species in hot subdesert areas worldwide, providing many services for ecosystems and humans. This group includes Prosopis cineraria (L.) Druce, a dominant species from the dryland forests of Southern and Western Asia. Human population density and activities in these arid areas have led to calls for an urgent consideration of ecosystem services and conservation biodiversity. We performed a literature review on P. cineraria, to determine how this species could contribute to ecosystem conservation, ecosystem restoration, and improving ecosystem services in its native distribution range. Prosopis cineraria is at the heart of a network of intricate interactions with biotic and abiotic factors in its environment. Water mobilization, nitrogen fixation, soil stabilization, and the shade and resources provided by P. cineraria are key elements in the consideration of this species for conservation programs. Moreover, P. cineraria is deeply entrenched in local culture and history. It is part of the local cultural identity and provides remedies, agro-ecological, recreational, and regulating services, such as protecting dunes against erosion. Prosopis cineraria is of huge ethnobotanical value in subdesert areas in its native range. Dryland forest conservation strategies could benefit greatly from targeting this species, and should be accompanied by research in the potential of P. cineraria for coping with climate change.

The rapid deterioration of the state of biodiversity on a Mediterranean and planetary scale calls for a global response of ecological transition from our societies. One of the levers identified is to mobilize the higher education community in raising awareness and educating on ecological transition. Scientific mediation is a mean to allow dissemination and appropriation of such scientific issues within society. Moreover, it constitutes a participatory and creative approach, placing the learner at the center of the educational process. To reconcile biodiversity and human societies, and to promote the conservation of emblematic marine and terrestrial vertebrate species, two different scientific mediation actions are presented. In a first case, a board game was designed to better understand the biology and ecology of Mediterranean turtle, shark and cetacean species, to better identify the threats to these populations, and to raise awareness on conservation actions and on scientific studies and monitoring of this threatened fauna. In a second case, a short video was developed to decipher the issues of coexistence of human activities with three predators : the harrier, the fox, and the wolf. In addition to the knowledge of these species, the mediation emphasizes the questions of occupation of territories, zoonosis, and competition for resources to shed light on the conflicts between humans and predators. The development of such a scientific mediation approach constitutes a new challenge for higher education, which finds itself immersed in an unprecedented framework : the ecological emergency that our society is facing., La rapide dégradation de l’état de la biodiversité aux échelles méditerranéenne et planétaire appelle une réponse globale de transition écologique de nos sociétés. The separate and combined effects on calcareous grassland communities of habitat conditions and management regimes are analyzed using constrained ordination techniques. Measuring the niche breadth of species along constrained ordination axes corresponding to habitat and management gradients allows to hierarchize conservation priorities between species within a given biogeographic area and to focus conservation strategies on species with particular life traits.

The vegetation of coastal dunes of Jijel (Algeria ) : proposal for a new Important Plant Area . Coastal dunes of Jijel are extended between two Important Plant Areas (IAPs ), enclaving a Ramsar site. This ecosystem is fragile, very coveted by the public, and houses characteristic plant groups and species of great heritage value. Three sites have been selected for the study of vegetation using the phytosociological relevé method. The floristic analysis allows compiling a list of 235 species and describing the diverse plant communities on dunes. Biogeographical analysis allows estimating at 68.3 % the Mediterranean originality of flora , and at only 2.5 % the endemism . The dunes of Jijel show a high plant richness fitting with IPA classification criteria. Some plants are new to Jijel area, and many are becoming increasingly rare and are at risk with extinction. - Abstract
ABSTRACTTrees of the Mimosoideae are dominant species in hot subdesert areas worldwide, providing many services for ecosystems and humans. This group includes Prosopis cineraria(L.) Druce, a dominant species from the dryland forests of Southern and Western Asia. Prosopis cinerariais at the heart of a network of intricate interactions with biotic and abiotic factors in its environment. Water mobilization, nitrogen fixation, soil stabilization, and the shade and resources provided by P. cinerariaare key elements in the consideration of this species for conservation programs. Moreover, P. cinerariais deeply entrenched in local culture and history. It is part of the local cultural identity and provides remedies, agro-ecological, recreational, and regulating services, such as protecting dunes against erosion. Prosopis cinerariais of huge ethnobotanical value in subdesert areas in its native range. Dryland forest conservation strategies could benefit greatly from targeting this species, and should be accompanied by research in the potential of P. cinerariafor coping with climate change.

- Abstract
1. Atmospheric nitrogen (N) deposition and climate warming are two major components of global change that drive species richness and composition in plant communities. However, their combined effects have been insufficiently investigated across large spatial and temporal scales particularly in high-elevation, nutrient-limited ecosystems. 2. We examine whether and how N deposition and climate warming have altered the plant richness and the composition of subalpine semi-natural, extensively grazed grasslands of the Pyrenees, using two complementary approaches: (i) analysis of 553 releves to explore vegetation changes across large ecological gradients including temperature and N deposition (spatial approach) and (ii) a re-sampling of a subset of 40 sites among the 553 sites to assess temporal changes over the past decades (temporal approach). 3. Both approaches showed that the vascular plant species richness increased when temperature and cumulative N deposition increase, shifting the species composition towards more thermophilic and eutrophic communities. 4. Synthesis. We hypothesize that the release from abiotic constraints (milder temperature and higher nitrogen availability) due to global changes and long-standing extensive grazing counteracting the negative effects of nitrogen deposition have been responsible for the diversity and compositional changes of plant communities over the last decades in the Pyrenees. Thus, in contrast with other grasslands, high-elevation grazed grasslands may increase in species diversity with nitrogen deposition under climate warming.
